That was the worst review ever.
I already knew the i7's ran hot in the envy and that was their main complaint.... -
-
the Brits don't think as americans do, think about it.. we can have a V8 because we want to.. but they are stuck with 1Litre 3cylinder engines, as en example.. and their negative tone could may well be their awkward sense of humor, perhaps we got the tone wrong. LOL
-
LOL, the minute I saw it was at the inquirer I didn't have any expectations, to be honest. I went ahead and read it but several things jumped out at me. First off they didn't make clear the VGA output is only if you buy the adapter. They also didn't get the Slim battery so how long the system will run is up in the air. All in all a pretty much slapped together review with no real meat on the bone.

why is mine still in alaska?!?!?!

well the first part of my transplant was a success! swapped out the 1366x768 screen for a very sharp LG 1920x1080 I got for a mere $150 brand new. Hardest part about messing with the display is the bezel, being all flimsy plastic, have to be VERY careful praying it loose. I didn't scratch or warp or break any of the plastic, so I'm pleased with myself.
Step two of my transplant will be installing the 820. I will see if I like it better, not excited about possible temp increases though. Also want to see how it performs on battery vs. my i5. Want to thank you for the tip about shielding the bezel when removing the palmrest assembly, didn't scratch anything at all. The only thing I did mess up on was removing one of the stupid rubber pads. I managed to tear one of them while removing it. Should be able to stick both parts back on without there being a noticable defect, if not I guess I'd have to fork over $40 (what the heck HP!!!?) for a new set of 4 rubber pads.
Anyway, glad I did the screen upgrade for sure, not just for resolution, but the contrast ratio seems much, much better. this is the regular glossy version that I normally despise. -
-
radio shack happens to sell square rubber footpads for $9. They are thicker than the HP ones, but I'm tempted to buy them b/c they will let my laptop sit a little higher for better fan circulation. But then again, my battery slice would most certainly not fit (i think). decisions, decisions....

oblivion plays just fine off the battery in my experience.

But seriously, I'd love to see some screenshots/Benchmarks of Dragon Age: Origins and any other games you've got laying around. -

Here is my tracking via Fedex for HP Dv6t Quad. -
That's weird with the Anchorage scan in between Memphis.
-
-
Yeah, it's only 11:46am right now in Alaska.
We've got some time, fedex.
Oh, less than 24 hours for delivery, right? -
-
judging from all the schdules... looks like all the planes start to leave ANC at around 3-4pm Alaska time.
-
but if its 5-7 like mine, it'll prob go to memphis first.
I hope mine comes to newark.. then I may get it tomorrow!! Probably not though.. -
Hopefully mine won't have to go to Memphis before it comes back to LA. Its a lot closer from Oakland.

yay, my $99 vostro v13 comes tomorrow! now to install a 64GB SSD...
-
Don't put too much into Fedex (or any carrier's) tracking. -
yay, getting a new set of rubber feet for free! i would go with larger foodpads from radioshack but my slice won't attach. ran cooler with bigger footpads though...
-
Where did you get the display (P/N ?) and is it possibly available in a higher color gamut version? Did you replace all the other 'internals' or just the actual LCD portion?
Good luck on the CPU. -
Shipments leaving Anchorage are still in 'Cans' (which are airplane cargo containers) and the individual computers have not be seperated out for specific deliveries yet. Anchorage is the Customs stop. Fedex does not separate the individual computers, HP does and then re-ships them via Fedex to you. That's why they are usually routed through Oakland or Memphis which are the main HP redistribution hubs.
It appears that the units still in Anchorage had some sort of Customs delay (according to fedex) and should all be outbound this afternoon. From there keep your fingers crossed! (Juneau's fedex office is closed saturdays)

Mine left almost an hour or so later, I imagine its prob on the way to memphis.. since it looks like the Flight to Newark took off at 4pm on the dot.. no way mine made it to the plane in 3 mins.
And it looks Like mine could be on FDX12 -
