Most likely FDX 12. It left a little over 10 minutes after the left Alaska scan. We'll find out when a scan shows up in a little less than 3 hours. I doubt we'll be seeing them tomorrow though.
-
From past experiences, most of you guys will get their computers tomorrow.

I hope they incluse the "SWSetup" folder as they did with my last envy, seeing as how all the drivers arent posted online for the refresh.
First thing i plan to do is disable the SSDx2 raid and reinstall Win7 onto the single SSD, and that folder should contain all the drivers they used.
Anyone with a refresh can confirm that folder is there with the refresh drivers? Specifically worried about getting the HP 5830 Catalyst 9.11, NEC USB3 Drivers, Wifi 6200 drivers. Is assume the rest of the Envy Gen1 drivers would work, but those new ones are a necessity.
Thanks -
-
Edit: actuallly, from HP shipping email. -
Is ther eno way to use hacked drivers with the 5830? This whole laptop driver situation is so anhnoying. I thought we had gotten past this.
-
There is, but these are very new video cards and it may take a few days for us to get to it. keep an eye on www.strags.com for an update, thats the most surefire way to success.
-
with nvidia you just had to add the name of your card in the inf file and it worked fine. What is hte process with ATI?

10 pgs skipped due to shipment updates.

Regardless, I'm glad to see people are getting their Envy's. I'm looking forward to more anecdotes, likes, and dislikes from their user experience. I'm also looking forward to a detailed guide on how to upgrade the RAM. I'm afraid of breaking something!
-
Also here is a step by step guide from the Envy 15 (g2) user manual:
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01952287.pdf
This is direct link to .pdf (4.2MB) see page 67 - 70.
The internal "non-accessable" module is the exact same process, you just have to open the case to get to it. -
-
-
-
Was hoping to find a detailed description on how to open up the laptop safely and remove the modules as shown in that PDF you posted. Guessing the PDF guide doesn't have this. -
-
I found the 2 module slots at the bottom. But my question is the interior portion...the part where I have to unscrew 20+ screws to get inside....
Looked in the index, only the bottom compartment is described...I'll look again though. -
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01911053.pdf
Disassembly procedures (with drawings):
Pg 44 to 49 = disassembly
Pg 50 to 52 = SKIP THIS - you do not need to remove keyboard
Pg 53 = Internal RAM location
Reverse to reassemble.
Note that this is from the original Envy but should be identical for gen2 except thier will be only 1 slot in each location.
Edit: assuming your getting an i5 version (hard to keep track) if i7 then 2 slots each location.
Hope this helps -

I'm now reconsidering. I may shell out the extra $ to get the i7 if it means I get USB 3.0. First laptop ever I'm spending over $1,000 on, figured might as well pay extra to future-proof it if it's going to last at least 3 years. I suspect later on down the road RAM prices will drop drastically as they did with DDR2 not too long ago.
Thx. Will look at original manual. -
Depends on what you want. I figure I want the i5 since it has lower power, and it'll still scream. USB3 isn't that useful for anything but external hard drives, and since all of the Envy's have a powered eSATA port (just gotta find the right enclosure, which I did
) I can still get the full 1.5/3.0Gbps speed of SATA, which is faster than any drive I'm aware of right now. As fast as the internal hard drive connection at any rate, so it won't matter if USB3 goes 5Gbps.
-
IMPORTANT NOTE FOR anybody that plans to open the case on thier Envy 15 (all versions)
To avoid scratching the black bezel around the display --
Make sure to put some sort of padding (cloth, cardboard etc.) around the bottom portion of bezel accross the full width of screen (across HP logo area)
The problem is as you lift (pry) up the palm rest / keyboard assembly, the back edge near the screen pops up and rub its edge against the bottom of the bezel.
On my 1st envy I did not even notice this could happen, just noticed the ugly scratches after final reassembly. -
I'm really not sure why you would choose USB3 vs eSATAP for external storage. -
The eSata port is worth nothing.
I'm told that many of the newest games today at least partially utilize the power of multiple cores. Though Starcraft 2 is estimated by some game bloggers to need a minimum of a 9800 Pro, a better CPU will allow for smoother processing of calculations.
Also, has anyone by chance already gotten their i5-equipped Envies? Has anyone gotten a definite answer to the question of the i5 Envies' maximum RAM? Some people have said that each slot can only support 4gb, making it 8gb. A lot of conflicting info! -
Maybe somebody will come out with 8GB modules someday but it might be cheaper to buy a new computer.... -
1/28/2010 10:03:00 PM OAKLAND, CA, US Arrived at Sort Facility
The Envy's have arrived in Oakland -
Explains why companies like Elipida and Hynix are now back in the black.
On the other hand, I'm guessing Intel designed the MB to support only 4gb/slot. My last Dell only supported 2gb/slot, making it a max of 4gb. -
Then again, when RAM prices drop, if I've gotten the i7 instead of the i5, I'll probably buy 2 4gb sticks and install them on the 2 empty slots. When prices drop again, I'll buy 2 more, making it a grand max of 16gb.
If my experience with my Dell is any indicator of how I'll do it, there'll be a 9-12 month gap between the two purchases! -

I'm no market expert. But I've heard that none of the major chip companies are starting up new factories in 2010. But some of them are still ramping up existing assembly lines ahead of an economic recovery and PC sales. I'm speculating that even with rising demand and tepid capacity, we'll still see 4gb prices rise a little further during Q1 of 2010 then level out and fall going into 2011. As DDR3 reaches scale of economics as a result of improved manufacturing methods, costs will fall.
I'm planning to buy the Envy around May/June of 2010 so by around late 2011, I should be able to get a 4gb RAM stick for $120 or under.
That's just my forecast. -
Argh... now it's gonna chill in the warehouse until Tuesday probably =( =(

Are you saying you have not ordered an envy ?
While I don't mind helping people out when I can, it's a little amazing that you're asking so many specific questions related to a brand new product that no one has recieved yet.
It's one thing to be asking this stuff if you have one coming in the next few days but, quite frankly, you do not need to know these things now. Why not have some patience and let people recieve thier units and report all the usual data over the next few weeks?
If your not planning to buy your envy until May I bet all your questions and concerns will be fully documented long before you place an order.
