If anyone knows for sure whether there is a bass control, please say so. Also, does anyone have an idea of how long it would take me to disassemble my laptop. I have the drive now and want to know if I should do it this weekend or wait until Monday.
-
No bass control as far as I know. And if you're good with screwdrivers, it only took me an hour or so to get mine apart, swap hard drives, and get it back together.
-
Yeah I had updated the BIOS, was burn marks on the mainboard and touchpad cable, also the hard drive failed. I have now received the laptop back. Also for the other question it's a 4830 so 1st gen.
-
So my power adapter just died and I had to call into HP to get a replacement. It started beeping (The Power Adapter was) and it wouldn't charge my laptop at all.
I'm thinking about buying a thinner power adapter just in case one of them dies again and because I wanted a thinner power adapter anyways. Geez they are expensive though. Which ones are compatible with the 2nd gen Envy 15's?
edit: When I wrote this I forgot about the multiplier locking when the laptop isn't hooked to a power adapter. Do other adapter's besides the 125w one that came with the Envy 15 cause the processor to lock the multiplier down and possibly the graphics card? -
There are several ways to control the bass; in the IDT control panel (beats panel) that has a 10 band EQ and the 'sound' control panel options; Sound > speakers and headphones > Properties > enhancements tab (for bass management) OR 'Tone Control' tab for basic bass treble sliders....
You also can use the 'fn' + 'b' feature (not recommended) and all your playback devices should have some sort of tone controls like the EQ in itunes or the EQ or the sound enhancement options in WMP....
To improve orverall sound from the Envy 15's internal speakers try these tweaks: http://forum.notebookreview.com/5668647-post3614.html -
I received my replacement Power Adapter from HP. The wire on the thing is a lot thicker than the one that came with my 2nd gen Envy 15. I'm wondering if the thicker cable might help it not short this time or the thicker wire is just another inconvenience for me. HP Adapters are notorious for breaking supposedly.

I am planning on upgrading my 720p Glossy Screen to a 1080p Matte. I noticed a few of you have done manual upgrades by buying screens from Screen Country. The things is, I don't know which screen they have for the Envy 15 is correct to get? Should I get the 1080p Matte Screen with the Left Side Connector?
-
Bravo!
Thanks, JJB.

is anyone looking for an extra 6 cell battery for their envy 15? I have one that has been barely used, had it for about 2 months. pm me if interested
-
Well, I sent my Envy out last Friday and got it back Thuesday. Everything went perfect, HP had an amazing turn around time, and I could not be happier.
A+ HP

Hey guys,
Everybody doin well I hope..
I was wondering if anybody else has been having wireless disconnect issues with this computer. I know there are some issues with windows 7 ... but my girlfriend's comp, dv7 with windows7 never has the issues I do.
Briefly, if I'm using heavy bandwidth, it just stops working, with no other wireless networks found. And I'll have to restart the modem before anything works again.
Anybody else? -
Are you using HP's wireless managment. If so remove it and let windows handle your connections...
-
Yea haha. I took it out with the rest of the crap that comes installed.
-
I had the same exact problem especially with games. Once I upgraded my drivers (i use DriverMax which if free but only 2 driver downloads perday) everything seemed to work fine.
-
Hi, anyone know the follows:
1. The right HP site for downloading HP Envy 15-1107tx drivers' updating? I have not found it anymore since two month ago.
2. What kind of docking station would be best for HP Envy 15? -
well for the docking station question i just use a usb hub with mutiple hubs attached to it.....so I just unplug it and go.... then just plug my hdmi cord in and i am good to go when i am home
-
1) There's the drivers thread right here in this forum: http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-drivers-software-forum/426181-drivers-hp-envy-15-intel.html
2) There are no official docking stations, as there's no docking connector. The only docking solution would be to use some generic USB based station. -
two questions, how's the battery life with an i5 and how hot does this thing get when gaming?
-
Hello,
I recently got an Envy 15, but I'm returning it, since this laptop gets way too hot and more importantly, the fans never stop being loud.
What I have is the envy 15 with the i7-720m and the ati 5830, 8GB ram and 1080p display. I found that it gets very hot and very loud, and I'm assuming while the i5 would be better, fan noise would still be an issue. Am I correct? I also have a UL30Vt laptop, and I was hoping that the Envy would be as silent as that one. Do I have unreasonable expectations and is the Envy 15 not for me?
A DVD drive is a colossal waste of space in a laptop, so I really liked Envy 15 for that aspect. I guess I'll keep my Asus laptop and just get a desktop for gaming, as soon as someone here could maybe take a video of the envy 15 running a game vs. MS Excel for example.
Thank you -
@ Przn4lif3 Ok first I get about 2 hours max with the standard battery and wireless/bluetooth on and I've never used up all of the slice battery (which I love) so 4.5 hours +. Gaming wise it is like 45 mins max on battery when I un-overclock the GPU. With the slice again Im not sure exactly but I did an hour of gaming on that and still had battery left. I have really been impressed by the battery so far given the preformance. Hope that helps.
@ MahirAydin When gaming with maxed settings and OC'ed noise is still not an issue for me (i do have cooling). When gaming it naturally gets hot cause all laptops do but its not too much to handle. When not gaming its close to silent and I've never had a problem with it. When using on the go I have never felt any heat other than slight warmness on the bottom and left corner. So no, noise and heat for the most part are not an issue with the i5 in my opinion. What game you want a vid of? Im happy to make one for you.
-
I hardly think a DVD drive is a colossal waste of space. Many folks nowadays do not have desktops. The same is true of me. My DVD drive is how I rip my CDs and movies. Just as importantly, it is how I watch my blu-ray films. Like others, I also like to back up to optical media. HP recovery discs are made through the optical drive. It's true that all this can be accomplished with an external drive, but that really is a waste of space ... and a USB port, especially if I'm away from home or on travel.
-
Thanks a lot for your reply, Texanman!
What you did is just exactly what I would like to. However, I don't know any
USB mutiple hubs which is equipped with HDMI or DVI output. Can you say it in more details? I don't want to connect my monitor to the laptop's HDMI output.
Again, thank you very much! -
nono i mean i have a seperate hdmi cord that plugs into the laptop then I have a powered usb 4 port hub that is full plus another 4 port hub pluged into it.... so when I get home or leave I just have to unplug the hdmi cord and usb and i am good to go...
-
Star Forge Quaggan's Creed Redux!
I am surprised no one has answered my question yet...
-
Well the only optical media I use is blu-rays and that goes into my PS3. DVD's and the kind are useless to me, even install win7 from a usb stick.
I'd just like to see a video of how loud the i5 envy 15 gets when you're gaming for example. -
Its really not that loud..... the only time it ever gets loud is only when I play league of legends... that game makes the fans inside get up to maybe 75% which sounds like a normal laptop fan
-
What drivers did you upgrade? When I check, it tells me all my drivers are updated.
And yea it happens if I'm downloading and webcam-ing. or mix it up with gaming.
Seems to happen most when I'm doing a lot of uploading. -
So you don't upload music and video to your computer?
-
HP sent me a replacement for free. I had the same issue about a month ago.
HPs slim 90w adapter also works on the Envy too. -
I haven't bought a CD in years, there's nothing that was released in the last 10 years that warrants a full album purchase, it's far cheaper to download the 2 good songs from an album from Amazon. I ripped all the CD's I had to mp3's years ago. I live a life without any discs except for blu-ray, and they go into my PS3.
There's netflix/hulu etc streaming for videos on the computer. When I want to watch something with great AV quality, I don't do it through a laptop screen and speakers, but rather on my big screen LCD TV and lossless surround sound via blu-ray. -
After I updated my drivers I also changed my encryption on my router to WEP which is considerably weaker but my random disconections from games and downloads stopped. I was using WPA/WPA2 before. What encryption do you have?

Ok...that laptop on hps refurb website is 979....there MUST BE SOME KIND OF CATCH...BUT WHAT IS IT? And do the refurbs come with external dvd drives?
Is it the older envy 15?
Ok, i see why it's cheap. It's not the bright view.....so what exactly does that mean? Is it still led backlit? -
Yup. Still LED backlit, just not the glossy screen.
It's probably that inexpensive because the model is discontinued. -
Ok and how bad is the tilting angle on these envy 15s? I've read bad things about it...
And i'm pretty tall so i like pushing the monitor back
Also, how can i guarentee its a 2nd gen envy? -
Well 2nd gens have the ati 5830, as for the tilting angle you might be slighty disapointed as it is only about a 100-110ish deg. tilt... im a tall person myself and its not a huge issue...but sometimes i do wish it went back a bit farther
-
It actually tilts back 122 degrees from closed / 32 from verticle...
-
So I'm in kind of a dilemna. The area presumably where my hard drive is located on the right palm area of the laptop gets hot after awhile. I believed that this was because it was an Hitachi that was known for getting hot. I checked the actual model code for my hard drive that is in my system and it is a Seagate Momentus 7200RPM 16mb cache hard drive.
I have a Western Digital Hard Drive Black Series 7200RPM drive that I ordered from Newegg and is sitting in a box right now. I don't know whether putting this hard drive in will help with the right side heat problem or whether it is better to send the hard drive back to Newegg for a refund or just put the hard drive in my PS3 which only has a 60gb drive right now. -
Just wondering, I very rarely see my i7 work at 100% not when im rendering in after effects, working in photoshop or gaming. Is this normal? battery set to balanced in windows 7
-
Try using prime95 (google it) to stress test your cpu. this should get it to 100%. If it does then maybe your hard drive is holding your i7 back.
If your i7 doesn't get to 100% even when using prime95 then try using the high performance power setting with prime95. Im not sure that changing that setting will help your case but you may as well try. -
The second gen Envy 15 is the only one that came with the i5 chips. All Gen1 Envy's have i7's.
-
ok so ive tried fixing the sound on my envy but now it sounds worse. at first i tried to fix it for sounding good on the speakers but then found out it also screwed up my headphone sound. How can I fix it or what are the best settings for headphones? Also i've tried using the beats program but it doesn't do squat. ill set the visual sliders and then nothing happens. thanks for the help
-
I'm having a problem with the Cooler Master USNA 95 power adapter. When I plug it in, I get a warning message that says it does not supply enough power. It seems to charge ok when I'm using the laptop but when I go to suspend mode, the charging LED alternates between full and charging every half second and I hear a constant buzzing sound. Is this a normal problem for using an adapter less than 120W?
-
Try these tweaks and read my suggestions....

@idaWHALE. i <3 you.
it may only be preliminary. but the disconnects have gone. for good i hope.
again, i <3 you.

What it sounds like is that you guys have older routers that just can't keep up with the WPA encryption. Probably not your laptop, but your router.
-
hi id like to upgrade my 2nd gen e15s processor. mines with the 430m right now
[i live in a country where the envy hasnt been released yet, so no service centre will do this for me
sending a laptop overseas is just too much hassle, id rather try this myself]
saw this one on ebay i5 580m
will it work?
or do you guys envisage some sort of problems with say power consumption, battery life etc
Really would rather i didnt fry the computer
is there an instruction manual around to help me through the process
if no, then, can you guys point me in the right direction as to which processors i should be looking at
will all i5 processors fit, or only the 520\540m (560m?)?
or only specific models of the above two
thanks
adi -
Star Forge Quaggan's Creed Redux!
The socket pin for the 560/580 is the same as the 520/540, so they physically will fit. Now if the BIOS in the E15 can detect it and confirm POST, I have no idea. -
I'm about to get one used.
-
go ahead and try it... if it works it would be a great discovery that would lead to upgrades in the future
-
lol no problem. i remember i was freaking out too when i first got it and it didn't work with games haha. and once mine went away i have never had any problems since so you should be good from here on
(hopefull face)
i have a brand new belkin n wireless router so i doubt it but maybe belkin just screwed up with them idk. it has worked extremely well so i doubt it but again idk
