I'll also be calibrating my screen with the Xrite Eye One Display 2. Hopefully next week. Since I ordered the glossy version the profile would only be helpful for glossy owners.

Besides the cool tint, does anyone else with the matte lcd see a fuzziness to it?

Hard to explain, but it isn't right....

have you tried the windows 7 lcd calibration thing under display preferences? IT idsnt great, but you can pull back on the blue slider to get the colors more neutral.

Thanks for that. It did help with the cool tint.

Now only if I can get some nicer looking colors (preferrably red and green) out of this thing. They are way too dull and washed out.

Has anyone benchmarked the 5830 yet?
Has anyone used usb 3.0 yet?

How long does battery last with i7, 5830 and 1080 res?

No, accurate would be my U2410 (I am not comparing it, so don't start ;)).

I just do not like this display and I am not the only one either....

IMO. it is the coating they used. It seems from different angles that the clarity and colors get better. I'm chalking this one up to the coating, for sure.

I'll see if I can get a hold of a glossy and do a swap ;)

Help, running into a problem. If I connect my Envy to my router using rj45 then it can see the other computers on my home network, which is named "home network". However if I connect via wireless-N, which is a WRT160N patched into my dsl gateway, which I setup with a special name and password for wireless security then My envy doesn't see any of the other hardwired computers. Did I set something up wrong?

    EDIT:
Corrections, I pulled up network settings on both computers

On my hardwired computer it shows:
my desktops name ---- "Network" ------ Internet

On my laptop when using Wireless it says
my laptops name --- the name I gave wireless ------ Internet

I'm at a loss and hope theres an easy fix if someone can help me sort this out

How can I check what speed my RAM is?

    In CPU-Z it shows:
    Max Bandwidth: PC3-8500F (533MHz)
    DRAM Frequency: 528 MHz

Isn't that DDR2? I thought this laptop comes with DDR3?

I think I see some fuzziness every once in a while. When I get real close, it looks very clear. I think I'm seeing fuzziness when I look at the screen from an angle. So when face is close and dead center, looking at font near either edge of the screen seems slightly fuzzy. Maybe the reason is that the matte surface is raised slightly off the screen, which means light has to travel slightly farther from the screen to hit the matte surface when viewed from an angle, which means more scattered light. That's my theory at this point...

Overall it doesn't really bother me much, but I've only used it for a couple of hours so far. The screen is fantastic compared to my corporate-issued Dell D630!

This thing feels very rigid and well-built/well-designed minus a few exceptions (mentioned below). It's incredibly rigid and it stays very cool. It feels light and the weight feels well-distributed. I haven't had a chance to test the battery life and performance.

    My main complaints thus far:
    1) The space bar needs more pressure than I like, but only at the right edge. I always use my right thumb. When I click down on the far right edge, it often does not register as a space. It's very frustrating, but I may be able to adjust if I keep it. So far, this is the only reason I'd return it.

    2) The touchpad sometimes works great, and other times the pointer is jumpy or tapping to click doesn't work. I normally use a mouse so it's not a huge deal to me.

    3) Cannot tilt screen back far.

Maybe. Seems that way but still haven't spent a lot of time comparing to glossy screen. Thinking of trying the 'clear text' (or whatever its called) adjustment feature in windows to see if this helps...

Here is the specific info on both display I have:

    Anti glare;

    LGD0258 Monitor 'name'
    LP156WF1-TLF3 'manufacturer'

    Glossy;

    LGD0265 Monitor name
    LP156WF1-TLE2 Manu.

Maybe you could see what the differences are for these part numbers? Also would be interesting to know if their is a better quality version available from the manufacterer (I assume it's LG). 'johnnobts' changed his low res screen for the glossy for about $150.

Edit: If you find the specs I would like to know what the brightness and contrast specs are for both, then I can compare to what I get during calibration readings.

    Hey all,

I just ordered and received a HP Envy Beats 15. It's second generation with the 5830 and USB 3.0 BUT when I ordered it, it was specifically mentioned for a 1920x1080 ultra brightview LCD.

But mine came instead with the 1366x768 LCD. The Beats edition isn't even on the website anymore. Should I get a refund? Are they re-releasing the Beats version or something?

Do you know which model that was from ASUS? I had some trouble findin it. I see they have some brand new ones with ATI, but it is 5870.

The BDrom is great!... its my second time ordering the Envy with one.

Small, Aluminum, Single USB, Slot Loading... seems fast and is very quiet. It just works. Havent burned and cd/dvd with my second one yet, guess i better try it out.

This appears to be the glossy version:
    http://www.lgphilips-lcd.com/homeContain/jsp/eng/prd/prd301_j_e.jsp

    Edit:

And this appears to be the standard 1366 x 768

    http://www.lgphilips-lcd.com/homeContain/jsp/eng/prd/prd301_j_e.jsp

    Lower brightness 220 versus 310nt

    Lower Contrast 500 versus 600:1

So I can see why 'johnnobts' changed out his low res screen and noticed a big difference in quality.

I would send it back, but then you will not be able to order a beats version again. Tell them youre keeping the headphones for compensation and then return it for a regular envy!

Strange, when I go to those links I see no actual specs, no numbers filled in next to the listed spec.

Also just to clarify, the 2 display numbers I posted are for the 1920x1080 res screens that I have in front of me.

Yes, strange...I followed my own links and the same thing happened. Try this:
    http://www.lgdisplay.com/homeContain/jsp/eng/prd/prd300_j_e.jsp

From what I can tell, the matte version is not listed and may truly be the same model without the glossy coating to improve contrast. It doesn't appear LG offers any other variations of this size (except a 1600x900 res).

Edit: You can also open up a catalog that shows their whole line on this same page, although some of the info conflicts with the individual model pages.

You could be right about that, but I think there aslo may be a lower brightness spec on the anti glare, not called 'ultra' brightview in the HP nomenclature, usually means a lower grade LED is used.

But I'd take glossy over this any day as long as it's brighter with better colors...

    @sleey0
I do believe I read somewhere that the big glossy one was supposed to have improved brightness and color gamut compared to the matte one. The 'Ultra' prefix was supposed to designate improved LED backlighting, in some manner.
I think someone in one of these threads got that info from HP; sorry for poor memory of details.

Heres some more info on the i5-540M model

I downloaded 'Everest ultimate' which gives more info about a computer than I've ever seen. If you want to check it out here is the link (30 free trial): http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/1398/EVEREST_Ultimate_Edition_5.02_.EXE_Package.html

Getting a strange discrepancy on the CPU spec between my 2 machines.

On one processor it shows a max multiplyer of 22 x 133 (2.93Ghz) and on the other it shows 23 x 133 (3.06Ghz) ? Not sure how it determines this but all settings on both computers are identical.

Also there is realtime multiplyer readings for the CPU. It definately confirms a 9X the instant you unplug and go to battery (1.197Ghz)

CPU temps (both machines) at idle are averaging 33C no issue with machine temps so far.

    FYI; the SSD p/n is SSDSA1M160G2HP Gen2 :D
