No. Probably will swap screens and send the new one back.

Hey, sometimes you have to take matters into you're own hands when HP was completely unwilling to help.

I just hooked mine up to an LG 47" LED display, and the laptop display is "bluer" and less punchy, as you described. It still looks great, but when compared to a high end IPS/LED display, you start to see the flaws.

So what is your point of reference when you say that it lacks saturation?

Not an option while my drives are in RAID0 configuration. Someone ('lsramair' I think) has already reconfigured to dual 160 non raid and says trim and all 'toolbox' features work on stand alone drives, check back several pages for the posts.

FYI- According to HP's datasheet the last display should be at least 300nits. The LG specs seem to back this up. This is also where I took the comments about the increased contrast on the glossy display.

    http://www.hp.com/united-states/campaigns/envy/pdf/envy15_datasheet.pdf

Either way, this should be plenty bright.

It is, after sometime at full brightness and a white background, my eyes are tired. Albeit, my eyes are extremely light-sensible, and direct sunlight diminishes my vision...odd, I can see better on low-light...hahaha

    Too funny.

I was looking at buying the beats keyboard to put in my regular Envy but it requires you to remove 60 (yes, SIXTY) screws from the top panel. This isn't including the 14 or so screws to take the top panel off.

    Ouch! lol

Thanks for the answer, but that did not change anything to my problem... When disabling the low light compensation (webcam IR) and the light sensor, I still have the webcam picture to be grey/purple.

    Any suggestion?

So I ordered mine yesterday, with the estimated ship date on Feb 26th. So should I assume that it will arrive earlier or am I stuck with the 26th?

Hadn't seen that updated data sheet before. I still never believe the specs they state in those things, The last one (i7 4830) had the smae 300 nit info and mine actually measured out to 265. Not a big difference but still not what was advertised.

The reason i posted the actual p/n's is in the hopes of getting the actual spec for the display from the manufacturer. I believe that the new glossy display I just received is not as bright as my old one.

Speaking of the original i7 4830 model.....Can someone please advise the P/N for the 1080 display please??

    I got the matte 1920 x 1080 screen. =D

Btw, I'm trying to do a clean install but after Windows boots up from the USB CD drive, it's asking me for USB drivers?

What do I do? =( I've already backed up the swsetup folder but I don't see any drivers in there that can help.

When you are installing from USB make sure you are using the eSata/USB port as this is the only 2.0 port. Windows PE does not seem to recognize the 3.0 ports.

No need to take the bezel off.

Just take the keyboard/top panel off, unscrew the 4 screws for the hinge, and remove the entire display assembly.

There are many variants in the LP156WF1, I emailed LG and asked clarification for the various panels. For example these are the same panels but maybe different revisions or coatings. There could be more, but these are the ones I found being sold on various chinese vendors.

    LP156WF1-TLA1
    LP156WF1-TLB1
    LP156WF1-TLC1
    LP156WF1-TLE1
    LP156WF1-TLE2
    LP156WF1-TLF1
    LP156WF1-TLF2

I really want to know the specs of each one and which one is superior for the glossy version and for the matte version.

    I don't care. I highly doubt it.

I mean, they wouldn't help me at all for a measly $25 difference in matte vs glossy. Wouldn't match my other order, nothing.

It would be nearly $500 more to order the same system so I'll do what I need to do.

    :D

OK here is the first PCMarkVantage (Full Suite) Benchmark on the Gen2 Envy 15 w/ i5-540M and dual 160 SSD (RAID0).

    PCMarkVantageSuite1.JPG

Notes: Ran at default settings (1024 x 768), Envy as is from factory except installed Intel rapid storge technology for SSD's - no bloattware removed - HP recommended power plan - CCC as shipped defaults. the rest of specs in my signature.

Now I'm going to start decrapifying things and see if it makes a difference

Okay I just played with both keyboards in front of me (both brand new) and there is a definate difference in the space bar, One is very loose with little tacticle feel while the other is nice and firm. Some other keys seem to be much 'looser' with regards to activation force on the same keyboard as loose spacebar.

While checking this I also noticed on one machine that it appears they used a 1/4" flat blade screw driver to pry up the keyboard, there is a gouge (a depression actually) between the palm rest lower edge below trackpad and the lower chassy, it actually deformed the inner edge of the chassy where it meets the palmrest. In addition while looking closely at this I noticed the SD cover 'door' is out of alignment significantly.....Guess they had to open it up after it was aseembled? Funny thing is I did that on my last machine as was able to do it with out damaging anything

It is a setting on router, usually called "Ap isolation" or "Client isolation". It should be under firewall, or wireless security or advanced wireless settings.
It prevents wireless computer see other computers, but you should be able to connect other computer by ip.

    Hey all,

I'm anxiously awaiting my Envy 15 gen2 which should be arriving early next week (such a long wait but hopefully well worth it).

I have two questions for the group:

    1) I've read that someone who recieved the ssd+hd had the OS on the normal HD. If that happens to me, I would like to clone the normal HD onto the SSD. Can anyone recommend a cloning program for this task? I have heard good and bad things about Acronis. I was wondering if there was something free out there.

    2) Is everyone that bought the gen2 with SSD's getting the G2 Intel SSD (instead of the G1)? That would be great! I've seen one or two posts of people who have gotten the G2.

Thanks for your help. This forum has been greatly beneficial.

Do you really think the matte is that bad? Is it worth the hassle and extra screen upgrade cost?

I've had both versions of the Envy and the matte I have now seems fine. I think you *maybe* lose a little contrast, but it's made up for with not as much reflection.

I can't stand to look at the monitor for more than a few minutes at a time and I need this thing for school (writing 50 page research analysis is not something I'm prepared to do on this display).

If you read back, you'll see I noted a fuzziness to it.

Different angles produce odd results too (not just washed out typical of these panels).

Colors are very muted as well which will hinder some of my recreational use of this machine.

Whatever. I'll check the glossy out and decide. Oh, and I'm not the only one who notices these flaws.

First post and my first PC laptop (ex-macbookpro user)

Just did a fresh install of Win7Pro and installed all the drivers but my volume indicator (slider) does not appear on screen. The volume +/- works fine but no indicator. I installed HP quicklaunch and that did not work. I have the Beats Edition and the beats logo is also not working. Guys have any idea?

I think you need to install MS silverlight (it's in the swsetup folder under one of the medismart (MS) folders).

    That and MSMenu.
