My new i5 machines came with 2GB x2 micron tech p/n MT16JSF25664HZ-1G1F1 OR PC3-8500S-7-10-F1 (1066 Mhz)
I replaced these with 4GB x 2 1333Mhz samsung modules p/n M471B5273BH1-CH9 (which are the same as bigcat400 recieved from HP).
It seems to be a mixed bag as far as what HP has been shipping recently , 1066 vs. 1333, so you may want to wait until you see what is installed on your machine before ordering.

What game is it? Sometimes the games tuck the graphics settings in a *.cfg, *.ini, or several others. If I know what game I can maybe tell you where to look. If I can't have several over the edge gamers that I can ask, hehe
-
anyone know where to get the chipset driver for the i7 2nd gen envy 15?
-
I took the plunge, thanks to Bing Cash Back.
i7 820QM
8 GB RAM
320 GB HD (2 SSD)
5830
Blu-Ray External
I think I'm going to be rather happy with it. At least, I hope so! -
Congrats! You should be.
-
Has any1 gotten dual SSDs lately? Are they G2?
-
Thanks everyone!
I guess I'll have to wait until I get it in order to buy the correct memory. -
You maxxxed it out.
-
Does anyone knows what is the size of the wifi card installed?(Intel6200) Is it half mini of full height? I have a 6300 handy which has 3 built in antennas as vs the 2 antennas in the 6200. I would like to install it if it fits in. Also, how easy/hard to replace the wifi card myself?
-
Should be pretty easy as long as the antenna connectors are the same. Here is 2 links to some pics I took of the interior that shows the 6200;
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=5815501&postcount=1249
And here, the one thats titled GPU and SSD;

Thank you...might have been a bit spontaneous, but I'm getting more frustrated with my gf's crappy old system, and wanted to pull the trigger on this.
20% Bing Cashback will do that. I'll be getting over $700 back on it. Could not pass that up. -
Thanks for the pics. But by looking at the wifi connectors it doesn't seem like HP provided an additional spare connector so I can install the 3 connector 6300. I only see two wires coming out of the wifi with no additional wire around. Am I missing it? DO you know what is the size of the current card?

Anyone with a Envy with the 720 and 5830 about who has AvP 3?
could you tell me what the game runs like at high settings?
Its down to the Envy and the m15x or Better gaming performance (m15x) vs Portability (Envy) ah i just dont know which to pick, they about about the same price when spec'ed up with i7 720 and either 260m GTX (m15x) or with the 5830 (Envy) just not sure what one would be better, the Envy to me looks better then the AW but Performance is important as well...
dam went to PCworld today they dont have any on display
have to go back later in the freaking week
-
color calibration aside, I was trying to increase global color saturation in the same way nvidia's digital vibrance allowed me to. googling around I've seen Avivo mentioned, but all I see in my CCC is Avivo video...how can I get the avivo colors option tab?
-
Wasn't there like a $500 max limitation or something like what?
-
It's an 'intel centrino 6200 AGN' which as far as I know is the same size card as the 6300, you should be able to confirm specs at intels website. As far as HP goes I don't understand your comment, why would they provide an extra antenna, cable and connector when they use the 6200 which only has 2 antennas?
I think the question is does the 6300 have any additional performance features that may be of benefit to you if only 2 antennas are available. I suppose you could add your own 3rd antenna, I just don't know where you could route it to enhance reception, the existing 2 are already up behind the display and I don't think having it in the magnesium lower chassy is going to get any better signal strength. -
Well I'll try to find a demo to give it a try & post the results in the benchmark thread if I can find one.
-
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
that would be great thanks
-
i have to run it at 720p with my i7-820qm, gfx overclocked to 510/1080. using direct x11, with shadows on medium, everything else on high. get over 30fps that way.
-
It did not state any limitation. According to my Bing account, there is $727 coming back to me.
-
Well I think couple of OEMs add an additional wire just in case you want to upgrade to a three antenna card. I know my XPS 16 has an additional wire so installing the 6300 wont be an issue.
I guess the ENVY only comes with 2 wires. -
I think xps 16 use 6300 in some model.
-
Hi everybody,
I´m looking for a second charguer to not have to carry with it each time I move from work to home.
The original one here provided by HP is about 100!
I´ve founded this Trust model which seems it has to work fine:
http://www.appinformatica.com/portatil-accesorios-trust-adapt.-corriente-notebook-120w-pw-2120.php
120W and the possibility to get the output at 18,5V. (You can use Google Translate to understand all the specifications)
Do you think it´s suitable for my Envy? (Envy 15-1150)
Thnks! -
They use the 5300/6200/6300 on some models.
EDIT: HOLY SH#^%T 500 post!! I should get a life

Has anyone seem the Envy 15 in any stores in the UK?
i tried in Christchurch PCWorld but they didnt have it
has anyone else seem them in stores like Comet or Dixons, ect -
Well, you can see it better in the official Trust website:
http://www.trust.com/products/product.aspx?artnr=15818
Our Envy doesn´t appear in the compatibility list, I have asked help to the Service Department to see if it´s suitable. -
As far as I know the 2nd Gen models are not even available yet at U.S. retail outlets.
-
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
Ah i didnt know that, i thought they were already in stores
or did people who got the 2ndGen models get them from online? -
Mine was a customizer from HP's site. Not seen any in the stores around here in Denver yet. I just keep repeating my fav poem:
"Oh words of thought, oh words Divine
Theres no 3 words so fine as these 3 words -
I GOT MINE!"
-
I think Bing has a $2500 limit per year. This is a fantastic deal - just ordered one myself and got $488 off. So I'm a pending member of the club.
-
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
As soon as i get my Sager sold, i will be ordering one of these i think
it might not have the performance of the m15x but it has the better looks and is sleeker and lighter as well
-
I'm looking for this model for weeks now. Till now I have only seen the first gen here in Europe. I thought about ordering one from the US, but 19% import taxes seems to much for me.
I found it is available on hp Switzerland now. I think there is hope, the rest of us Europeans will get is soon... -
I think you will like it. I was a bit nervous when I ordered it but now that I have it and have played with it am very pleased. Unfortunately my other half also really likes it so now instead of going down to their computer they keep swiping my toy so they can sit in the living room LOL

ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
Is this the 1st or 2nd Gen Model? : http://www.lambda-tek.com/componentshop/index.pl?prodID=B271668
-
Star Forge Quaggan's Creed Redux!
It has USB 3.0 and a HD 5830, so I will say this is a 2nd Generation.
Also, the Envy is light and is really small for a 15.6". In fact it is lighter than my previous dv6500t, and that was a 15.4" made with mostly acrylic plastic!
-
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
I thought it was, the HP uk site has the same model Rieman you hsould check the UK HP site and the link above
-
Yep gen 1's don't have USB 3.0 and use the 4830 GPU
-
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
is that the only differences between the 2 models?
-
Those plus the higher rez screen are the main ones I believe.
-
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
ah yeah forgot the higher res
I cant wait til i get my Envy -
Generation 1's have always had the high rest screens.
-
Well they all have HD but what I meant was 1920 x 1080. Didn't the Gen1's just have the 1366 x 768 size screen?
-
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
yeah they did have the 13366 x 768 res thats what i saw on the HP site information about them
-
Could someone please show me how to check whether my 320 ssd combo drives are g2 x-18 drives and not g1? From the crystaldiskmark, I'm guessing I got g1's because my write speeds are not anywhere near g2 write speeds. I got this generation 2 envy on March 2 and I was under the impression generation 2 envy 15s are guaranteed g2 drives especially with the 320 ssd combo... I even called the envy 15 tech guy and he opened one and reassured me they will come with g2 drives too.. perhaps I am worrying for nothing -- please help me.
note: I tried to search for it in the gen 2 envy 15 benchmark and in this thread.. can't find anything. -
FYI...
I put together a single post containing all of the links to threads, posts, FAQs, etc from all of these 1000000 posts we have. So far, I've only gotten through 100 pages of the posts .. Lol!!!
But at least there is one page to find all of these formation instead having to search through it when I my laptop arrives...Lol!
Let me know if something is missing and would be helpful for other people that should be on there. Point me to the answer or send me the info and I can update it.

Thanks, -
I don't think they're at all guaranteed, though if HP told you otherwise, that's certainly great news. I have been looking for this info today as well (I just ordered an Envy 15) and the best I found was 'it's a crap shoot.'
I think the model number on the disks themselves is the only real indicator. I know I read something in this thread about finding it but damned if I can remember where. -
That's a tremendously useful page, smilepak! Nice job!
-
I don't have SSD's but you could try HP Support Assistant .> Troubleshoot -> Information and see if it lists the part number, there will be a g1 or g2 in the model number. You could also go look in your device manager -> drives to see what it says or as a last ditch use a program like Everest which should give you the exact part number for your drives.
As for being guaranteed thats not HP's way. HP leaves the actual specific part numbers out when you customize your order to give them leeway to use what they have on hand. Just like how some got 1333 MHz memory and now most everyones getting builds that use 1066. All the customize page promises is the amount/size not the specific models. -
much lighter, i owned an M15X prior to this. Nice to have a notebook you can actually carry around comfortably. I think the M15X looks nicer than the standard envy, but I think my black envy beats looks better than the M15X.
-
Open Intel Matrix Storage Technology (or the newer Intel Rapid Storage Technology) program and look at the drive model#. There will be either a G1 or a G2 as part of the number. See attached screenshot. This is for a G2.
