Actually there was a post JJB made on how to set the audio a bit better, credit where credits due I say. Was very detailed. took me a sec to find but heres a link to at least one of his posts on it. If hes updated things then he'll have to point you to that post as this is the one I have bookmarked

I've had no issues using the download from the Envy Drivers thread (which should also be on HP's website)

Did you uninstall the previous version?

Even spell check can't save you from misspelling "COLLEGE". A collage is an art. College is where you go to get an edumacation. Hopefully they teach you the correct spelling in community college before you make it to a real university.

Sorry guys, didn't mean to come off so harsh, but the irony certainly doesn't sit well for the future of this country (or at least Texas). I would have let it slide once, but he seemed insistent on bragging with every post. On the bright side, I'm sure the lesson has been learned and the word will never be misspelled again.

Okay, enough with the Grammar Police already. I'd much rather see an accidental misspelling than all the darn IM abbreviations that inundate text these days. Some days I'm willing to swear some kids can't even speak in anything but IM anymore.

    You are just Ebil, hehe.

Since you want it back to Envy chat. Someone had made a post on the possibility of some kind of keyboard swap to get backlit key's. Has anyone read or found more info on this. I would be happy to send mine in or try and do the swap myself if its possible before the end of the summer.

Unfortunately that was not 'Envy chat', the backlit keyboard for the 15 was just speculation and wishful thinking that people keep posting with no actual factual knowledge....

Even if that option came out on a future model I doubt you would be able to upgrade, it would need additional power for the backlight and I have not seen any unused power connector pins under the hood on my envy

No offense, but you obviously need some computer 101 training. You did not know how to determine your screen resolution and now you don't seem to know how to check your BIOS version, and apparently even if you did know one of the 3 easy ways to check it, you don't know were or how to update it from

I suggest you start by actually reading the user manual that came with the Envy (on the SD card), and then check out the HP support pages on their site; HP Envy 15t-1100 CTO Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

IIRC you stated earlier you used to work at Best Buy, they also offer computer training courses, maybe you could get a employee discount....

Ah, well since I hadn't been around for a bit when I saw the post, I thought it was perhaps based on some facts, not wild fantasy. Thanks for clearing that up JJB.

One thing, I asked you earlier, was about the 10.6? beta. I downloaded that whopping package but what out of it do I actually want to run for the laptop drivers? Do I just run the main install or do I need to run a specific file ro files in a certain order?

Sorry must have missed your post. I am running the 10.5 version with no problems except no open GL support in CS4 due to non WHQL. The 10.5 install package is the first one in quite a while that actually installed all options and drivers (HDMI, Hydrvision etc.) automatically without hassle, after uninstalling the old driver(s) and using driver sweeper. Have not tried 10.6 yet.

Could anyone who is running the HP factory software package (no clean install) please check their device manager and let me know what your showing under the 'Batteries' listing...

    Here is a screen shot of what I've got after a clean install, they all appear to be generic Microsoft drivers dated 6/21/ 2006;

    batterydrivers.PNG

The driver version I show for all 4 devices listed is; 6.1.7600.16385

    Thanks in advance.

You just need the latest AMDGPUClockTool (supports Juniper chips) and then you set the clocks and test to see if they're stable. Pretty standard overclocking.

Hi, first time poster and just wan to say, what a great forum with tons a very helpful people and posts.

Now, on to the point of my post ;)

I have been playing around with my envy for some time now and got around to fine tuning my audio. It seems as though that the audio on the left side is noticeably more audible than my right side. I'll be honest, the way I found this out was when I was playing with the balance of the audio; when the balance is adjusted all the way to the right, it sounds very weak and when all the way to the left, loud and strong.

My question, I guess, has anyone else experienced this? Can anyone please verify whether this is the same on their machine?

    Thanks everyone!!

Here is something you might want to try to get around the ATI WHQL driver issue. Run CS4 in a VirtualBox 3.x Windows 7 guest. Virtualbox passes the graphics primitives to the H/W GPU for processing and supposedly supports both OpenGL and DirectX 9. I've tried running HD Video and IE9 Platform Preview and everything runs smoothly in Virtualbox as if running on the native hardware.

This might seem round about but its worth giving a try.

Same results here. Started this whole experiment to shut my MBP-owning brother up who kept using the prehistoric argument that macs are better for graphics people. I ended up demonstrating to him that not only my windows machine ran Photoshop better than his MBP but it also was faster at photoshop running on osx inside a virtualbox. Boy, He still hasnt talked to me since. Going on a month now.

It appears HP has been listening to users with regards to spare part options.

They now have a 4 rubber feet kit P/N and it looks like a 1.8" HDD bracket only (unclear if it has 2 cables). Here is the listings for P/N:

OK... The only one I was aware of was the 'hardware kit' which had the 4 feet along with an assortment of spare screws for $50+, even HP parts told me their was no feet only option available, which caused me to raise hell with my CS case manager to get me replacements since 2 of the feet were not sticking after they returned my Envy from the BIOS 'repair'....

Anyway I hope these posts will save people from the hassle I had to go through to get replacements....

Im having a major issue thats really making me mad... about every other time I come out of hibernation, windows will say that its resumeing and then as soon as that screen disapears i just get a black screen and thats it. I have to hold my power button and do a hard boot then it works again. I am thinking it might be my video driver because i am running the 10.5 beta. what do you guys think?

Yep, I had to get one of my rubber feet replaced, Hp hooked me up with that. i still hope they do an Envy 15 1200 Beats revision, with the extra vent on the bottom for the CPU. I would buy a new bottom in a heartbeat.

Well even if there is no beats version it could look kind of sharp with a silver bottom cover and Beats top half, you would get really thin silver border around the black keyboard area. It would look like a kind of hybrid which would be fitting since you've made so many mods to your Envy :p

Dude, I haven't done so many personal upgrades on a laptop since I had an Inspiron 9300. I upgraded the screen to 1080p, did a pin-mod on the CPU, replaced memory and hard drive, upgraded the GPU and eventually put the whole thing in an XPS Case... But I've done more with the Envy here. If I didn't really love the looks and design of this thing I would have sold it and bought a higher spec notebook a while back. An 820QM Envy Beats Edition with SSD and 8GB RAM would go for a pretty penny on Ebay right now.

I've looked through the envy threads, but have not found any information on this subject, but I hope you'll forgive me if I've just missed it.

I bought an xpal XP18000 because the output on the AC adaptor was within the range specified on the XP18000 itself. Xpal support tells me that, in fact, the envy 15 is above the output of the XP18000. This leaves me with a super awesome 75Whr paper weight, and a battery life problem. I was hoping to avoid the slice battery since I've heard a number of complaints about them, and really would just prefer to leave the expansion battery in my backpack (heat shouldn't be a problem) and run the wire out of it to my lappy. Since the Xpal is apparently not the solution I'm after. Anyone had luck with anything along these lines? External batteries? Maybe a hydroelectric solution so I can keep my batteries topped off by peeing?

Anyone can tell me the Envy 15-1100 CTO support AHCI??
I can only see there is a "Intel(R) ICH8M-E/ICH9M-E/5 Series SATA RAID Controller" but not something with the word "AHCI" in the device manager, could anyone please confirm it?

p.s. i have already installed the intel rapid storage and i am running one 320GB hard disk.

Yes. AHCI is supported and enabled by default.
