Any ideas of when another discount will be available, pry going to order 15 next month? Anywhere to look for or to keep an eye on to see if a coupon is available?
-
hopefully mine hasn't suffered the same fate *fingers crossed* -
On hold with HP right now to see what they can do. It's not going back for repairs! -
-
I take apart laptops in my sleep, it really shouldn't take me more than an hour to remove the screen to reseat it, but I'd really rather not. This was the first time I had to deal with HP support so I asked a bunch of stupid questions to see how they respond. One of them was what if I opened it up and reseated the bezel myself? His response was (an American, with a southern accent) my warranty will be voided. Dell will gladly send me whatever parts to replace on my own. I'm sticking with Dell unless HP has something that I absolutely can't resist, like the (discounted) Envy.
$1050 for the updated MBP is a good deal. I had a last-gen 13" MBP for a little while. As nice as the Envy 15 is build quality wise, the MBP is still a notch above - the real glass E2E screen, that satisfying muted thump sound when you close the screen, the Magsafe plug. I just couldn't stand OSX and Windows runs like crap (bad keyboard and touchpad support) on it so I sold it. -
I really want to keep the envy but the range in build quality is disturbing. I'm also a little bummed out at the .3MP webcam on the envy because I teleconference. I know of external webcams but that's just an additional accessory to keep track of. -
This is definitely not their normal process. He had to get manager's approval and do some trick on the system. Because of the last extra 10% discount given for the second delay, I will actually get charged that amount and he has to process a refund when the replacement ships. I've better not see another full charge on my CC for this replacement system! -

exchange reordered at 22th was shipped today
-
Wow, mine is listed as shipped. Originally ordered with this $450 coupon April 6 (delayed to April 28) but re-ordered April 22 with $450 discount after finding out about the 2.5" / 1.8" HDD issue ($200 in brackets if you want to upgrade 2.5" machine to 1.8") and moving up thru the HP ranks to get them to let me have the discount again...
So this one shipped only 6 business day after the order, not bad really. I have an ES i5-540M CPU waiting for it when it comes.
Mine is listed to ship May 1 (have tracking # now) What kind of ship times are you guys getting from ship date? Not / Including weekend?
Here's the real kickers on my order. My first two orders were with $450 coupon and 10% Bing Cash Back. The first two orders still have $95 pending for BCB, but the 3rd order I ordered with a $450 discount and 25% BCB. The 25% BCB was cancelled 3 days ago but I still have the $190 in BCB from the first two still there.,... (first two orders are long cancelled)
Oh yes. I am dying to know. Anyone in the most recent round of shipments order the 160GB Intel SSD(s)? Did you get G1 or G2's? -
Both my BCB were cancelled a few days after the orders were placed. The add'l discounts offered for the delays made up for the BCB. This was a real sweet deal. -
-
Yeah the SSD is great. I had the 80GB G2 in my Dell, 80GB is a bit tight to load any games on it, not that the XPS1340 is much of a gaming machine. With the dual drives I'm going to put all my stuff on this thing!
Good luck with your BCB. You might have a chance of them coming thru. -
Would love to know how you guys got bing cashback AND the $450 coupon, considering...well...you know....the fact that you can't get bing cashback if you use a coupon...
Did HP mess up with this coupon or something? -
-
It shipped and will be here a may 4th.
Also got $102.49 knocked off for the delay. Bringing it to $1185 for a $1737 laptop, lol. -
Now it's in Tennessee, I guess it doesn't make a difference whether you live on the west or east coast... except if you got the 2 day shipping that is
-
Got my shipment notification at approx 8:00pm Pacific Time on 4/30 after ordering on 4/22. This order was not delayed, so I just get standard shipping. It looks like FedEx will pick up the package from the HP factory sometime on 5/1. Anyone have experience receiving a CTO notebook from HP China to Southern California via standard shipping? How long should I expect it to take?
-
-
I saw on the fedex page that there were weather issues in Memphis, but that should be over by the time yours gets there if it's shipping today. -
I got the shipment notification very very late on the 27th. It came in yesterday around noon (I paid for 2 day shipping in the original order).
I'm happy to report no obvious problems. I do notice a slight electronic whine on occasion, but it sounds like EMI affecting another component on my desk (coils in an adapter, speakers, monitor etc.) When I have a chance, I'll take it to a room that's a bit more void of electronics and try it out. The 120w AC adapter also exhibits a slight whine, but it's much quieter than the super-annoying whine that comes from a Blackberry wall charger that I have.
Even with the stock bloatware, the unit runs very cool and very quiet. The battery life (6 cell only) sucks, coming from an ASUS UL30A, but that was to be expected.
i5 430M, 1080p glossy, 320GB 7200 RPM, and everything else stock. Now I can hopefully drop my 2.5" 160GB X25-M G2 into it, do a fresh Windows 7 install, and call it a day. -

Picked up my Envy yesterday after all the delays
No problems to report. The bottom gets quite hot while browsing the web and and playing flash videos. The right palm rest (above the hard drive) also gets quite warm. In the process of removing all of the bloatware, which could be the cause of the processor load and the heat.
The keyboard has a distinct feel to it (coming from the Asus 1201N) and it takes time getting used to it. I keep hitting the calc button while trying to hit control. The spacing of the keys also seems a bit weird.
Reading through the forums, I had the impression that the trackpad was unwieldy with stock drivers. I am having the complete opposite experience. It is quite good. There are times it takes multiple attempts to scroll through webpages or zoom into and out of pdf's. But the majority of the experience has been quite pleasant. -
So... I've been following this thread for a few weeks now and I was wondering how long it usually takes for Envys to get out of Shanghai...? I ordered on 4/2, got a shipping number on 4/30, and since 5/1 at 3:52 AM its been "in transit" from Shanghai.
Is anyone else having this issue?
**EDIT** Sighh... onto Alaska. I guess there's no chance I get the laptop by tomorrow afternoon... -
Mine is in Alaska as well. Expected Delivery on the 6th.
-
I think mine will be delivered on Monday, a day before their expected delivery date. It's been at their sorting facility since Saturday morning so I'm fairly certain they will get it to me on Monday. I can't really complain about it as long as they deliver it before or on their estimated delivery date.
Although I would be lying if I said the wait wasn't killing me! -
Mine has said "Shipment information sent to FedEx" for two days now. Is that normal?

The track pad, on the other hand, is one of the best I've ever used. I've had no problems with it out of the box, and coming from my UL30A with some multi-touch gestures, it seems very well done. The surface is very smooth and extremely pleasant to use.
Overall, I love the laptop. I'm still not happy about all the delays, but corporate was more than happy to listen and act when I contacted them, so I will continue to do business with HP. My only complaints about the laptop, from severe to not so bad, are:
- 2.5 - 3 hours of battery life (needs switchable graphics and stock 8 or 9 cell instead of 6 cell)
- Horrible placement of shortcut keys (left side of keyboard); the right-hand side or above the F keys would have been much better
- All ports on the right side of the laptop; the left side, or split between the two, would have been better
- Only 3 USB ports (5 would have been nice)
- Moderately warm
- No backlit keyboard
- Accessories are not cheap and their website is not clear exactly what can be used with it (as far as spare AC adapters, etc.)
- Worst case of pre-installed, useless, proprietary software / bloatware I have ever seen (Seriously HP? You set all photos, videos, and music to open up with your own player by default?)\
If I had paid $1500 for this laptop, it would be going back in a heartbeat. But considering I paid a fraction of that after the coupon, refunds, etc., I'm plenty happy with my purchase. HP does need to work on making this the "premium" product (or Macbook killer) that it tries to be, though. I hope the Envy 14 and 17 will help to fill those shoes. -
so how hot are these gettin i was thinkin of getting one
-
-
Only the i7 quad cores come with USB 3.0
-
guys where is the exit vents and intake vents. also temps on i5
-
I have the following programs open: firefox(13 tabs, 1 flash vid 119 min), uTorrent, word, pdf xchange(3 pdfs) and itunes. The right palm rest is warm and the vents are cool. The cpu temp is 32 degrees celsius.
Earlier the laptop, esp the bottom got very hot with a variation of the above programs loaded. I haven't been gaming on the laptop yet so can't tell you the temps there. -
-
I just noticed that the base of the laptop is not even. The front left side is raised and it rocks back on forth.
Anyone else notice this abt their envy? I started using this yesterday but I guess i haven't noticed it till now. -
Did you guys that just got your laptops reformat the hard drive or just uninstall the bloatware?
If you reinstalled, did you keep the HP recovery partition on there? -
@rynyen
check the bottom of your laptop and see if one of the rubber pads is missing or slightly out of place.
@d2x
first i tried uninstalling the bloatware but it's a mess. i ended up just reinstalling Windows. you can download an image of Home Premium from microsoft, put it on a USB stick, and install the OS from there. use the Windows product key number under the battery. after it loads update the drivers from HP's website or the thread in this forum. it's pretty easy. -
-
-
So it went from Alaska to Memphis. I guess it's getting a tour of the US before it comes to CA.
-
From what I have seen, if you elect to buy the 2-day shipping, then the laptop would have gone straight from Anchorage to your hands. Otherwise, it seems it goes to Memphis (central distribution center or something?) and then gets shipped out.
-
same as you and now it was updated.

weekend has been wasted... -
I've had overnight packages going from LA to Seattle and they go through Memphis on their way. Odd, but that's how they do it. -
HBaby.... you should just be happy HP was willing to build you a brand new laptop after sending back what might have been a perfectly good one... Only partially kidding, but you can't complain about the service.
-
hbaby and I sent ours back around the same time, but mine still says Est. build date 17th
-
Received mine today, unfortunately, it's not what I expected.
The minute I removed it from the cloth bag my girlfriend made a crack about the floral design and I winced.
Plugged it in and first impression was; I absolutely hate the touchpad. The left/right buttons are infuriating and require quite a bit of pressure while the pad itself skips uncontrollably (no smooth scrolling) while left click is pressed and sometimes just in general. I also dislike the restrictive screen angle, perhaps I'm spoiled but I like a little more bend past 90 degrees.
I really wish I could like this machine, but it's impossible. I got half way through the bloatware removal and decided keeping this machine even tho it was a "steal" would be ridiculous. -
Star Forge Quaggan's Creed Redux!
-
Mine shipped on April 29th and still is in Memphis. It's scheduled for May 6th delivery but really should get here quicker.
I am also worried about what my initial impressions will be like with the etching and also the battery life. My backup plan if I don't like it will just be to give it to my wife and take back the UL30VT I gave her.
