*HP Envy 15 Owners Lounge! PART 1*

Eagle17 - Did you ever get the Sony F-Series you had ordered? I have an F-Series with the 820QM processor, and it has the EXACT same C-State bug you mention regarding the Envy 15. When it's running on Battery power, the processor is locked to 9x bus speed (1.2 ghz) regardless of temperature or what's running. Do you notice the same thing?

Probably lower demand and availability of the i7 chip.. as for me I have an i5... and doesn't look like its gonna make Today's ship date, so I imagine its gonna be delayed, unless the HP site is slow...

 

i think availability of components probably, and a higher demand for the standard versions. Who knows?

 

My i5 beats would be here tomorrow if I paid for extra shipping. Its on the way.

 

Yeah, SXPS 1647's with i5's have been shipping within a week as well.

So I'm not buying part shortages....

It is Intel, for one thing, so hopefull good compatibility and long term support. More importantly, it has 2 antennas and is full 300mbps instead of the gimpy 1 antenna, 150mbps "802.11n" cards.

 

The i5's use 1066MHz speeds.

You'll want the i7 if you need 1333....

Well, the i7's use 1333, unless HP changed the chipset.

 

They probably just bought 1066 ram to use in all laptops as it would save them money since its cheaper and really who would care? lol

 

damn this is hurting more...! feel bad owning the already obsolete envy 15, especially when I only bought it on boxing day LOL

 

for the people that bought the Beats, did you just buy it for that beats logo on the B key or was it actually for the headphones themselves? If you get the standard Envy the Beats headphones sell for just $299, after $50 off and a 20% rebate. So it basically ends up being $200 cheaper for the same setup. Besides, TBH, those headphones aren't worth $300. The "B" key is really cool though

Also, the HP website now lists the i7 620 as needing the same video card as the i5 series. They still haven't fixed hte price though. Lenovo CPP charges just $104 to upgrade from the 520 to the 620. I think if I get a thinkpad it might be worth the money to get the upgrade. No way in hell is it worth it on the Envy though.

Edit: You can get the phones from amazon for $250. I wish they offered the Beats color scheme as like a $30 upgrade option instead of doing the whole bundle thing.

Yes your saw the right thing. I bought it when I was on holiday in Hong Kong on boxing day. Businesses still operate. And of course even "nicer" after a week or so rumours of the new models started coming and now we (or you guys to be absolutely correct) are having such nice update...

Edit: Not that I care too much about graphic card bla bla bla, but USB 3.0 does seem to be a wonderful upgrade as I plan to have this for 3 years or so. It wouldn't have hurt this much if Envy had an express card port...

 

Well, to be honest I didn't research this much because HP did a bad job of providing us with specs. However, I knew the 5100 was a little older version and had received mixed reviews from Envy owners. So I am just glad it was updated.

Spec wise nothing major stands out. Although according to this article it should help improve battery life and faster transmit 2x2 versus 1x2. Well, see if it matters in the real world. Of course the 6300 would have even been better.

Actually I wonder why HP does not offer wireless card upgrade at a cost as Dell does. Wouldn't hv complicated things a lot would it?

 

Well just got off the phone with HP. God their CS needs to improve. Anyway here's what I was told. Since my LE was due to be built by the 22nd there is a good possibility that they won't be able to successfully cancel the original order but I need to wait for either a confirmation of cancellation or a notice that its been shipped. If it doesn't get canceled and ships then I can just call back and have the new order canceled. Now, of course, since I'm hoping they don't get it canceled and it does ship I'll probably get an email saying they were able to cancel the order in the morning. The good thing if they can't stop the original order going out is it was paid using BML whereas I used my bank account to pay for the new order.

I really hate suffering from OCD, LOL

Yes. My i7 had 8GB 1333. Some people started reporting they got 1066 with the i7 in more recent deliveries, all before the i5 launch....

 

How big of a deal is this on the i7's? I thought the Envy always included the 1333 memory. Anyone do before and after benchmarks?

 

My original Envy - same specs - had the 1333Mhz ... odd that this one has the lower level. Oh well.

I forgot, the little squeek on the right Palm pad is now gone in my new Laptop!

 

not getting 1066 might just be a deal breaker....man I was really hoping to avoid sending back the laptop for stupid crap.

 

how is the cpu multiplier working?

 

How do I test that out again? I am new to the benchmarking apps

 

i think if you goto www.cpuid.com and download cpuz and just see the multiplier when its plugged in and unplugged that'll work.

Any other thoughts? I'm inclined to see some benchmarks and real world comparisons from people who have owned both the 4830 & 5830 versions.

It is absolutely useless. Best case scenario the faster ram is maybe 1-2% faster.

 

I guess at this point, people will argue it base on principle.

Premium computer need premium memory haha.

Personally doesn't matter to me, just makes upgrading to 8 gigs of ram that much more affordable.

plug in the machine

start prime95 , run 8 threads

start cpu-z, look at the multiplier it shows (133 x XX), should be 12 (for 720) or 13 (for 820)

unplug the machine, see what happens to the multiplier.

Also before coming to any conclusion, make sure your power plan is set to high performance, and on the advance settings, make sure the min and max processor power is set 100%

The fact that the machine has a new BIOS is potentially good news.

 

i7 Turbo and realtemp might be better than cpu-z, fwiw...

Definitely curse. But it's the good kind of curse that makes you feel fuzzy because you're special.

 

Okay just to be sure of something are there really just 3 diffrences between the LE and regular Envy

1. a different case color

2. the little button to turn on "beat"

3. the head set?

 

It comes with a certain set of software as well... nothing of interest to me, since I just need to hear music, not produce it.

 

Are you ENVIOUS of the BEAT version of the ENVY?! ho ho ho... You can never have it all xD
