Does anyone have the anti-glare version? I picked the option but have not heard how they look. Does anyone have this particular screen and how does it compare?
EDIT:
One other question. As some of you may have read I was convinced by CS to cancel my LE which I was paying via BML and order the regular 15 on my CC to ensure it had USB 3.0. Anyway my LE might still get built and shipped, if it does and I decide I just want to keep the LE version will it still be billed thru BML?
-
I always doubted my 1/19 date. Given I ordered late night 1/11.
If you haven't received email, it hasn't shipped. Regardless of what the rep says. It's all lies unfortunately. I didn't think reps in companies like HP would lie, I don't see the point. The fact is, they'd say anything that comes to mind without actually verifying anything.
I am on my fourth order. You get an email actually a few hours BEFORE the system actually ships. They send some electronic info to Fedex before the package is actually picked up. So if you have no mail anywhere (check spam folder), I am quite sure it hasn't shipped. -
The anti-glare option was a new option with the refreshed CPU/GPUs. Don't think anybody with this option has received one yet.
-
@Bigcat400
I have the dual 160GB SSD's on my new order. Does the intel software have any basic instructions for things like maintaning the drives and proper way to prep for clean OS install etc?
Never had SSD's or RAID0 configured drives before and can't seem to find any useful 'beginers guides' online. -
Mine sez being built 1/20
. I ordered an i5 with antiglare. I hope the build quality is up to snuff otherwise I'll have to pursue an elitebook.
-
Just don't defrag SSD's, ever. You don't need to really do much of anything, really. The drive controllers do everything for you
-
without trim support, i kind of worry that performance will fall. but then again the way I use my drives I wonder if that will even be the case, as all streaming etc will come from my NAS. I plan on keeping these drives are clean as possible.
-
I also bought a new envy with dual ssd option.
I am not a familiar with the intel ssd, but i am enough to say that if I keep the new machine I doubt I will keep the raid 0. the ssds are fast enough with out the need for the raid 0. I have a Vertex 120gb ssd in my current envy and it is plenty fast. also there is the issue of sata controller performance. I don't know if they fixed the issues in the new envy to allow even a single intel ssd to run at optimum speeds in 4k random writes.
And my last complaint is that if you lose one drive in a raid 0 you loose all your data as opposed to having two 160gb drives with data writen across both.. not as big a deal since I am very good at running backups and I really like the new backup software in windows 7 that lets you rigth click on any file and pick what version you want to restore it from..
The other info that we need to figure out is how to do a garbage collection on the drives to keep the bits in line.
I will do some research and see if i can build a little mini review for everyone that inlcudes both raid 0 and non-raid setups. -
defragging the drives will, if anything, lead to even worse performance without TRIM.
-
I would have agreed with you if they were hard drives, but with SSDs you really don't need to worry about them failing. If hte drive itself its defective you would be able to tell pretty quickly. After that they should last at least as long as your machine.
-
i plan on just setting up a bi-monthly backup from my laptop to my nas. as for the GC, i really hope intel a) supports the G1's for trim and b) gets raid to work with trim.
-
God the anticipation is killing me. Called HP today and they told me that if the LE does go out, and that it most likely will, then it will be charged to my BML. They said open it see if it has the 3.0 on it and if it does just keep it and call back and cancel the 2nd order. So now its just a waiting game to see what happens.
The build by date on the 1st order was the 22nd so only another 3 days till I know for sure LOL. The origonal order I placed included the Ultra Briteview and the 2nd order I decided to pick anti-glare screen so I may, if the 1st one does ship, wait on the second one to also ship and I'll compare the 2 screens and report back
OCD is such a pain. People joke about having it but I actually am clinically diagnosed with it and trust me its no fun
-
Scheduled to be shipped on the 19th. Its the 19th.
I'll let you guys know if it ships.!
-
good luck.. mine was scheduled for yesterday.. and no such luck.. mine is still in production
-
Unfortunately, Envy is my first experience with SSDs too. As others have said, it seems there isn't much we can do with these drives from the OS point of view (other than usual stuff, like making sure they are not completely full, etc)
I learned Intel has released firmware updates for these drives but you can't use them because they are not recognized by Intel flashing tools, even if running non-raided. HP f*ckd them up by inserting/wiring their own part number into the hardware which makes them unknown to Intel. So totally depend on HP to release updates for them.
Re clean install, it's easy, just boot with your win 7 dvd (or whatever) and windows will see a single drive, no need to install drivers with f6 and any of that. Go into custom setup and delete all partitions until you see a single ~320GB partition, choose it and let windows do the rest. -
This would be very much appreciated!
Mine is scheduled to be shipped today, but no email and no status update yet (i5, dual SSD, matte). -
Mine still showing an estimated ship date of 1/18 and haven't received shipment notice either.
Ordered on 1/9.
Core i5-520m, no add-ins or upgrades except for 10080p glossy. -
I ordered the exact same thing on 1-8 and my ship date is listed at 1/19.
Mine was on 8pm Pacific, when did you order? -
Can anyone say how the 5830 should perform compared aginst an Nvidia GeForce GT330M?
-
From wath I read the Ati 5830 will perform much much better than the GT330M, even the Ati 4830 perform better than the GT330M
http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GT-330M.22437.0.html
read there at the right side you can see a chart with all the graphics card and how it perform
The Ati 5830 its supossly to be a 1st Class GPU yay! and the GT330M a 2nd Class
Also if you look at the Ati 4650 is still better than the GT330M
And dont forget that the New Ati 5830 its directX 11
The GT330M its a good middle class card it should be able to play most game at high with some exceptions...
But the Ati 5830 its better...
-
Thanks for the link, didn't know there was a 5850..
-
are you sure?? (I'm not copying the very first ones..)

I misread the 5730 in class 2 as a 5830. I fail
Are there any benchmarks of the 5830 around yet? I haven't been able to find any, and I'd like to see how it compares to it's desktop counterparts. -
Well I checked my account to see if my laptop shipped since I didn't receive an e-mail yet. Nothing shipped yet, I'm getting it shipped to my parents house 2.5 hours away and I was planning on visiting them this weekend and picking it up. I got an e-mail that HP canceled my bing discount. It's expected since I used a coupon, but it still sucks, especially with them releasing a coupon later with a bigger discount.
-
I read a review released today for the mobility 5850, and it was very poor. The performance was only on par with last years Mobility 4670!
Then I read at the bottom that the reviewer was a little computer challenged, and hadnt loaded any catalyst drivers! HAHA
Check it: http://twisted-reviews.com/short-review-ati-mobility-radeon-hd5850-1-gb-ddr3-first-benchmarks/
Id really like a full review of the 5830 also! or any 5800 series... -
Lmao, link? I'm guessing it must had been windows update drivers...as no drivers wouldn't render performance even close to a 4670
-
after reading how poor customer service has been, i'd like to add that they jacked the shipping address on the phone purchase I had made.
similar to Trojita up top, i'm going to have to make an hour excursion to la familias to pick it up. -
updated...
-
The numbers seem right. The 5830 is supposed to be better than the 5670 but worse than the 5850. The 5830 is also worse than the 4850, which has double the memory bandwidth.
Did anyone's Envy 15 ship yet? Mine was supposed to be built by today, but it still says "In Production." -
Tada, from HP
Notification of Ship Delay
Due to production delays we will be unable to ship your order on the original estimated ship date. The revised estimated ship date for your order is 1/30/2010 or no later than 10 business days from the original estimated ship date. -
just got an email from HP that my order has been delayed. I am going to raise hell, this is the 2nd time they did this to me on my 2nd envy, and I customer service assured me it was shipped this morning. 50 bucks will not keep me happy. they will have to sweeten this deal now.
-
just got my ship delay e-mail to
-
Delayed as well.
From 1/18 to 1/30.
Oh well. -
Okay, out of curiosity and in preparation for its arrival I was going to download the latest drivers for the I7 5830 mobility from HP but I can't seem to locate any drivers for the graphics card when I looked at the latest models of the Envy 15. Does anyone have a link?
-
close to just buying one from Fry's....if they have the i5.
-
yay I can't wait to get my delayed email. I will call them up and either get a bajillion dollars back or a refund. If they can't deliver I'm not interested...
-
Unreleased as of now i believe...
-
Are all those getting the delay mssg ordering the I5 or is it I5 and I7's getting delayed?
-
mine is an i5
-
Both i5 and i7 are delayed as of now. I have 2 orders of envy 15 incoming (27 dollars difference) anyways... Will call up on hp tomorrow to cancel out one of them. or both... depend on the csr response.
-
Due to production delays we will be unable to ship your order on the original estimated ship date. If you prefer not to wait you may cancel your order and receive a prompt refund by either replying to this email message with your order number or calling our toll-free customer service number at 866-288-1610 between 7:00 A.M. - 2:00 A.M. If we do not hear from you before we ship your order, we will assume you have agreed to this shipment delay and still want your custom PC order. We apologize for any inconvenience this delay may have caused and thank you for your patience. Following this email you will receive a HP Home & Home Office Store $50 coupon due to the delay of your order -
No delayed message yet.
-
Wonder if we get to keep the $50 coupon if we cancel -
thats nice. You should get them to throw in a free slice battery and $100 I may go with the F series customized, unfortunately it has the nvidia card.
-
Ummm, No. The 4830 has been shown to easily beat the 4670 by 20% or more in those same tests. The new 5830 has about 15% hardware advantage on top of the 4830, according to the specs. They have the same memory bus width as well.
There is no way that a properly working 5830 will fall to anywhere near the 4670 levels. There is also no way that the 5850 will be on par with the 4670, as the review is trying to show. -
WORD. let me know how that goes.
-
lol i'll give it a shot once I get my delay email.
-
As frustrating as it is, the date they give you is only an estimated date. The best forecast in the world can still be wrong; and so it is with the supply and demand chains.
At least they are giving you a voucher; they are certainly under no obligation to do so. Phone them and give them hell if you like, but I bet more than half of you get nowhere further than the voucher they're already giving you.
Come on HP, get this first batch delivered so you eventually put the i5 version on the UK site......! -
Well that sucks. Still haven't received my cancellation e-mail though. Either way it gives us a hassle free way to cancel our order. I'll be on the lookout for other laptops coming out in that time and the Macbook Pro announcement. Unless the Mac Book Pro refresh blows my mind (If the graphics card is subpar and they don't update their display port spec, forget it) or HP keeps delaying the laptop. then I will probably stay with the Envy.
-
I have yet to receive the delay email. I guess we'll be seeing our Envy 15s the first week of February.
