So, how do we veryify that proc is not in "turbo" mode (ie, one core running faster with other cores shut down.)
Perhaps running that same CPUID with a good multithread benchmark. Anyone?
-
as bigcat posted, the XPS 16 does not thave the problem, neither does the HP DV6t i7.
On the other note I did not open my F11 because I noticed after it shipped that i did not configure a few options that I wanted so i called them but it was too late to cancel so I had to wait to get it then ship it back.
I decided to come back to the envy only because of the usb 3.0 since my esata drive is such a pain to get working on this laptop. But with the latest news of the still broken bios I may just wait for the ugly but solid lenovo thinkpad w series. or maybe the hp W series. just have to see.
I have an envy now so I have plenty of time to wait for a better laptop.. if I decide I need portability i can just get a ul30vt. -

True the faster bus can help however you will most see this only in applications that require low latency (databases). there have been sites that have already done these tests and shown that the 1333 memory is virtually useless compared to 1066 when it comes to desktop computers. now if you are doing big random/dynamic number crunching (F@H) this could give you that 5% -7% boost.
other than being lied to by hp this is really not a big deal for most people. games, and most apps including photoshop, premiere, and vegas will not see a noticeable increase in speed. -
To everybody whose order didn't ship yet and is past the estimated build date, did you guys order the blu-ray ROM drive? I'm wondering if this is delaying the order because it hasn't been available for order for at least a week now.
-
No, I didn't order any drive with mine....
-
I haven't gotten notice mine has shipped, and I didn't order an optical drive.
-
i used billmelater and a) it hasn't been charged, and b) it hasn't been shipped. i am assuming we will be getting notices of a delay.
-
I wish I could of gotten blu-ray but, at least for now its not being offered as an option
-
If there's a delay, is there any chance that they'll give us some sort of discount? I remember some people getting 10% off, when the Envys first came out, after complaining to HP.
-
my first order was delayed like 3 weeks, they gave me a 50 dollar coupon to use on their site... -
Good to know. I'd still rather have the shipping and billing confirmation today like it's supposed to be
-
yea I just called them.. My Shipping date has come and gone, they said my Envy 15 is not listed on the delay list or whatever.
And the Phone person recommended the usual, call back tomorrow because they probably don't have the updated info yet. And/or wait for the mail confirmation.
So as convoluted as it sounds its either done and sitting somewhere. or on its way over. or delayed but they aren't notifying anyone. So I'll just check tomorrow.
bummer.. -
I ordered Blu-ray, but the phone rep said mine ain't delayed either. so who knows..
-
Mine was supposed to ship today but it's still "order in production". Still have most of the day left though. Ordered with DVD drive, not Blu-ray
HP charged my card back on 1/8 when I ordered. Sort of annoying. -
Ironically, that is why I went with the Envy. Very few i7 laptops offer bluray burners at the moment (Sony F Series is only option in this class). Why bother to order a laptop designed to hold an optical drive if I will need to buy an external option later.
Now with USB 3 it makes my choice that much smarter.
-
That's the annoying part, that they already charged the credit card and provided a ship date. Now, to miss that date and already have your money. I guess I might call later today and see what I can work out.
-
just echoing everyone here....schedule "build date" is today...not shipped yet
I ordered the DVD drive too. -
waiting with you guys
720+ matte with dvd rom
Estimated Shipping 1/19/2010 -
I don't like to be lied to, HP doesn't know what their comsumers will be doing, and this could be a deciding factor for some one. As everyone's laptop becomes delayed and the ram start showing up to be 1066 I believe I will have a "what can you do for me" conversation with HP.
Same here. I did get billed for the 3 year warranty, I am kind of hoping they forget about the laptop lol.
This is part of my reason for the envy too, I'm not too concerned about battery life at full power and I want to be able to use what I have when I need it. If the only computers with this issue are the envy and the vaio hopefully the bios situation will get sorted. Of course HP says this feature is meant to be there and I would much prefer them say 'we're stupid and not sure what you mean by BIOS' than say they meant for things to be broken. -
edit: nevermind
-
well on the order page it says 'estimated shipping: jan 19th' but when I actually click on my order number it says 'Estimated Shipping: Your pc will be built by the 19th' so its rather vague. I was going to give them a day to ship after the build day. we'll see.

I have a question for people who already have an ENVY 15:
When an SD card is in the slot in the front of the laptop, does it stick out at all?
I was thinking about getting a 16 or 32GB SD card to keep in the computer at all times, but if it only goes in halfway I don't want to do that. -
it does but by a very little amount just enough to be able to push it in and have it eject.... it comes with a 2gb card btw...
-
It comes with a SD card? I wasnt aware of that
-
Thanks, I guess I'll wait until I get mine to see if I want to do this. The reason is that I am swapping out the HDD with an Intel X25-m 160GB SSD. I wanted to have a normal drive for downloads and other things so that I am not constantly writing to the SSD. Since there is only room for one 2.5" HDD (from what I've heard), I thought having a large SD card would work for this purpose.
-
it's a 2gb sd card that has the manual and some other digital documents on it...
-
FYI: I just checked my 2 previous envy 15 i7 shipments, both shipping notifications hit my inbox between 8-9:00pm PST.
Also keep in mind it is midnight in China right now so I wouldn't expect any updates on our shipping status until much later today. -
f that. SAME DAY!!!!!
-
Doesn't China span 5 time zones?
-
wait, the Envy is built in China?
I WANT AMERICAN. -
it does, but most of the manufacturing plants are on the coast.. and like Apple I think HP's plant is also in Shanghai, which puts them at +8GMT
which is 13 hours ahead of EST, currently -
They ship from Shanghai. 12:34 am 1/20/10 current time
-
lol no you don't.
-
ok fine, but still, it'd be neat and patriotic-ish.
-
i called sales support and they said tracking number emails would be sent out later in the day and that mine has been shipped... we'll see if they are right...
-
The profits are still going to an American CEO's nice golden parachute. Does that count?
-
timesquaredesi MagicPeople VooDooPeople
You'll be using it america - I guess that technically makes it a patriotic act. LOL.
I drive my mercedes on american soil and im proud of it!
-
what was your original ship date?
-
1/18
and stuff (filler) -
I live a mile away from corporate...maybe I can work at a local golf course.
-
Only dell still build computer inside US I think.
-
Is your order for an i5 or i7 version??
-
They do 'final assembly' in U.S., the MoBo's are stuffed in china. At least on my Inspiron 9400....
-
i5 with dual ssd's and 1080 glossy + slice battery
-
does anyone know if there is good 3rd party power management software for laptops in general?
-
rmclock....but i don't know if it works well on i5 i7. -
Well then your shipping info is great news to me -- Yours is the first i5 I know of that has been confirmed as shipped (if C.S. is correct) which should mean there are no delays for parts on the 'gen 2' i5 models....
-
well from what I gather rmclock is for the nerd in all of us. I meant more like something that would possibly integrate into windows, not necessarily though, and would do a better job of cutting power consumption compared to whatever the envy ships with. As a side note, I tried RMClock on my C2D ULV gateway a few days ago and it didn't work at all. I am running windows7. I dunno if thats an artifact of my assclown pc or the program just hasn't been updated.
Edit: I am going to play around with the sony power management (I was impressed with my old vaio's PM) and see if I can't get it running on my gateway tonight, if I can then maybe I can do it for the envy. -
I use RMCLOCK on my Dell XPS 1640 with C2D to underclock, and it works perfectly. I tried it on a a dv7t (when I had it), and it didn't work.
-
I hope the new anti-glare LCD isn't going to delay shipments.
