Same with me. I have at least 4 instances of Visual Studio open + SQL Server + PhotoShop + VMWareServer with two VM machines + IIS webserver running + outlook and tons of email.

The i7 + 8gb of fast ram handles this smoooooooth. Puts my desktop to shame

 

Has there been any announcement as to the styling of the Envy? When I ordered on the 8th, the HP website showed the etched design. The website now shows a non-etched design but it says that it is etched. I wish they were consistent in their pictures and description. Personally I'm hoping for no etched design. Kind of looks industrial which is how this thing should perform - heavy duty.

 

I would be more preferential of a plain brushed aluminum look, but this is a decent compromise I suppose.

I'm going to bring this across one of my powerdercoating buddies to see if he can do anything for me.

 

for the people that already got their ENVYs with 5-7 day shipping on the east coast, when did you get your shipping notification email and when did the laptop arrive?

I am going out of town for a week, leaving friday afternoon (fedex usually delivers to my house around 11AM). I am crossing my fingers, hoping that I will get it before I leave. Just got the shipping thing this morning but if it's coming from china I'm not gonna hold my breath.

I'm not $50 richer. I was looking at their prices... they're charging $300 for a color laser printer that I can get for $150 off of Newegg. I'm guessing most of their stuff is overpriced like that.

 

Quite honestly, they don't offer anything around $50 that I want. Plus they wouldn't let me apply it to the invoice. I'm bitter.

 

They told me they can credit me for $50 after it shipped.

 

As I expected, no transcoding / compression at all. The chips that do that cost extra $$$.

So what about bluray's with DD plus and DTS HD like you originally asked?

It'll pass through DD and DTS from DVD's... meh... if you play only DVD's. Like I posted earlier, if you find some Bluray playback software what will strip the DD and DTS from the bluray disc and shoot it through the HDMI audio it'll do it.

 

Mine shipped today too. I'll be looking forward to seeing how this machine runs current and future games, especially DX11 ones like Dirt 2, Stalker, and Alien vs Predator.

Ahhhhhhh they said they will upgrade to 2day shipping for my delayed order but they didn't.

I originally ordered on Jan 8th, told through email it would ship originally Jan 19th, then delayed to Jan 30th, and I did not get a shipping notice today...

Anyone else in the same boat?

What are the similarities with others that didn't ship?
I ordered an i5 520M, dual SSD, matte 1080 screen, DVD drive, and HDMI to VGA cable.

 

When I called them originally about the delay, the CSR said that they would "expedite" getting the laptop to me. I asked if that meant 2 day shipping and they could not confirm that. She just kept reading the script that talked about "expediting" the order.

I think other CSRs got confused what the word "expedite" meant. They assumed it meant expedited shipping, but they were just guessing and telling people what they wanted to hear...

Regular free shipping, with an ETA of Feb. 2nd. The warranty arrived here ahead of Fedex schedule by a day, so I'm hoping the same will happen for my laptop

 

+1 for 2 day shipping promised for the delay but was given 5-7 day shipping

 

Well, I have the same info as you guys AND I PAID for 2 day shipping (26th ship date and 29th delivery).

So it looks as if you guys DID get 2 day shipping.

I will be calling HP later to get a refund....

 

The website says they are out of HDMI to VGA cables if you try to order them separately. That may be why. It would suck if your entire order was delayed due to a stupid cable...

 

they are overpriced but I bet you would have got it for really cheap if you would have ordered it with your machine. I am kind of regretting not ordering one.

However, no matter how you slice it it's not fair. I don't want to be a female dog, but I've payed them on the 8th of January and they ship my order with people who payed them 1 week after me. I don't mind people getting their orders on time, but I do mind when I'm placed in the same boat with people who ordered after me.

 

Additionally, I was specifically told it would ship on the 26th and I would have it by the 28th. Don't get me wrong, I think I am going to love the laptop but the misinformation and the lies told by the CSR's is pretty bad.

 

Especially when it changes your work commute an 2 hours.

 

You could have warned me! I might have paid for 2-day shipping. My delivery is scheduled for February 2nd. Coming directly from Shanghai.

Yep, it's Feb 2nd for me too

 

A no show for 2 day shipping on my order. It still shows normal 5-7 day shipping

 

My invoice says 5-7 but Fedex is showing 4, technically 3 as the item was received on the one date but after FedEx's cutoff so even thoght shipped on the 25th it was too late to go out and with the 29ths by 4:30 delivery that would mean 3 shipping days.

On a side note, supposedly when you have your serial number/part number Tech support is supposed to be able to pull up your specific computer and see exactly whats in it. Is there some way for us to access that data?

 

Scheduled delivery is Feb 2nd. But the fedex tracking # says Shipment Exeption. I really dont know what it means. Looks like its shipping from CN and awaiting clearance somewhere.

 

I live just a few minutes away from Oakland CA. If they send my laptop to Tennessee... I am going to be so pissed.

 

It means that HP is a bunch of lazy asses and they only gave Fed Ex the laptops after the shipment had already left, so they are going to arrive a day later than they needed to.

What I don't understand is why they are all shipping on the same day. I find it hard to believe that if some major part was missing that they would have been able to build ALL the machines and ship them at the same time. I am thinking they had a shortage of 2GB SD cards or something ridiculously pointless like that.

 

I ordered on the 8th and I'm not getting "expedited" shipping or anything. Still no status on FedEx.

For folks who are looking for the HP HDMI to VGA connector, I checked the website and saw that it was out of stock. Since they were still taking orders for the machines and including the cable, I called up CS and asked if I could order it. I talked to someone and as confusing as it was, I got to order it. I wasn't expecting to see anything but 2 days later I got my cable. With shipping it came to just over $49 bucks. You might want to try that.

I was bummed that I'd purchased that and an additional 120W power supply prior to getting the $50 off coupon. I did call to complain to tell them I'd bought all of the accessories I needed and the coupon was worthless to me. They then said they would credite me back $75 on my order 5 days after it shipped. I also got to keep the coupon so I'm pretty happy.

 

I don't know, but I remember I could with Dell. I re member at hte time I was hoping to get a Toshiba hard drive with 16mb of cache, and htey actually specified that. They listed the exact model numbers of all the parts in laptop. Really cool.

Overall, I would rank my Dell experience quite a bit higher than with HP, although I think that the Envy is nicer than any dell.

 

2 Day shipping with HP = 4 day actual time. This is pretty much standard for HP, as this is how long its taken a number of laptops to get to me with 2 day shipping.

I think you should call and try to get your money back. You didn't pay for 4 day shipping. You paid for 2 day.

WHAT?! It only took 2 days? lol I bet you that was 2-day shipping, not 5-7.

 

Ugh..... February 2nd ship date here too. Now I have to travel to my parents house the next weekend too to pick it up.

for my tracking number, it hasn't even registered with Fedex yet, so its probably on a pallet with other Envy's and it won't register until it goes through customs or gets separated from the pallet

 

Need some recovery info guys.

1) Since I didn't order a DVD drive, is there a way to save Recovery Discs to ISO format so I can burn them with my other laptop?

2) If you clean install and delete the recovery partition, can you still revert to factory install using the Recovery Discs?

 

provided you have the Windows key, you can download an ISO from Microsoft.

there's a thread for it somewhere on this forum i'm sure.

 

Not sure why anyone would bother with the recovery partition or discs. Just grab a Win 7 ISO online and wipe the drive and install Win 7.

 

And when is the driver page going to be up?

I plan on wiping the system clean from the minute I get it and there are no drivers listed.
