One interesting note on the iPad is the initial specs being recited sayit has an IPS display, no resolution info that I've heard yet.
Edit: Just announced price starts at $499
-
They are saying "carriers usually charge" in their 3G models. ummmmm no mention of AT&T??? Does that mean apple is jumping ship?
Edit: Nevermind. -
The only thing that caught my attention was the IPS
lol
The rest of it is meh at best..... -
next time!
-
Me either. Cant say its a big let down as it is what i expected.
Wish they would refresh their macbook pro line so I feel better about my envy purchase
I am guessing even a refeshed MBP will come in no where near the price i got my Envy for. -
I agree that they do not have a direct comparison all the way accross the spec sheet. however the 1645 is bigger and heavier as well so it is not comparable.
I don't think we can have the ultra light and portable with long battery life and fastest processors/graphics in one box. so if I wanted light weight and portable I would have purchased a asus ul30vt and I will do this also just for travel.
I am only comparing with other laptops that meet the same hardware specs i7quad, 16gig ram, 1080 screen.
at this point it is the style and usb 3 that may make me keep the envy15t -
Welp no refresh for macbook pro. Just the "magical" imaxipad.
They should have called it iBezel -
So no new MBPs announced right?
-
they shouldve called it the iPOS
-
hmm, i removed my battery a moment ago and can see the memory sticking out. Does the i5 version supposed to have accessible memory under the battery? And the extra memory for the i7 models is inaccessible, right? I'm just making sure I don't have an original i7 motherboard (not usb 3.0, but an original rev. with a 5830 card)?
-
I believe both have slots in the same locations, the difference is the i5 models have single slots while the i7's have dual (stacked) slots.
one location is inside case (under left palmrest) and the other is in battery compartment. -
i will verify this myself when installing my i7-820 later this week. Decided to keep the beats, especially now that apple hasn't updated their line, and probably won't until June or even September.
-
yeah, IPad is something my wife uses once a month, isn't it?
-
no flash support on iPOS?
-
No flash support, no cutting ties with ATT, and more importantly, no multitasking. Not going to be drinking the apple Kool-Aid
-
what they shoulve done is made the iphone half as thick so it cuts you and then given it a built in projection screen that gave HD quality output upto 120 inches and projection keyboard with 300 hours of battery life. Maybe next time.
-
No flash, no usb port, no SD card reader, no front webcam, no multitasking. Ipod touch with a larger screen. That is it.
-
All for the low, low price of $829 for wifi/3g and 64GB.
What a joke.... -
@ 499 with 16GB ssd and using wifi, i really don't think it's a terrible deal. but then again, alot of people have mac bias to begin with.

Wait..... What!? This doesn't affect the mobility version does it? -
Nope. The Mobility 5800s are based off of Juniper, which are desktop 5700s. Whatever issue they're having shouldn't affect the Mobility 5800s.
-
It's got a built-in mic
-
Cool, is it decent or should I still be looking for a mic to use in school to catch my Prof's lectures? Any suggestions on a reasonably priced directional mic if I need one?
-
I expect to get it by the estimated date they provided me.
-
+1
***10*** -
One of my favorite phrases:
"God grant me patience, and I want it NOW!!!" -
Odds are, the mic isn't good enough to catch your professor's lectures, unless you're right in front of him/her.
-
According to HotHardware it does:
http://hothardware.com/News/AMDs-Mobility-Radeon-5830-May-Arrive-Later-Than-Expected/
Wonder what this means for those of you with an Envy 15 on the way - mine has an estimated (revised) ship date of the 31st.
-
huh? my 5830 seems to be working ok i guess.
-
Mine just arrived in Anchorage, AK! Hopefully smooth sailing from here on out.
-
That's a typo on the article. Check it now. It says the desktop Radeon 5830s are delayed, not the Mobility ones.
-
They've added a note, looks like its for the Desktop version.
-
You may consider something like this microphone or this one ( here's a pic and better description of it) attached to the back of your screen if it's thin enough. That's about all I can really suggest... shop around at Newegg or Amazon or wherever, see what they have.
-
maybe the Envy is jinxed.
-
Ooops wrong thread. But good thing no new MBP was announced, would have considered a 17".

Jan 27, 2010 1:39 PMArrived at FedEx location ANCHORAGE, AK
Didn't take that long to arrive in US from China.
I have an estimated delivery of Fed 2 but I think I might get it this Friday by looking at this. -
My inside source at Apple told me that the updated version will be called iPad Maxi.
-
I am so glad I do not live n ancorage anymore... I would not be very happy seeing m envy in anchorage and them shipped to cali before coming back to anchorage to be delivered.
-
I live in Santa Monica, CA so I would not know how it feels like living in AK
-
I just hope they dont ship it to one of the flyover states before sending it back to CA.
My I9300 was shipped from Malaysia to Texas before getting to CA> -
The mic should be better than average with 2 mics and one on each side of the webcam. As was already mentioned, it probably won't be facing the right direction to record a professor in class.
I'd give it a try first and then go from there... -

Anyones order ever get delayed at customs in Alaska?
How long did it take to clear? -
he'll be playing modern warfare 2 in class with his envy anyway.
-
Only if he brings his adapter and a really long power cord. With the locked multipliers he may have trouble recording the lecture and typing in word at the same time.
-
Yeah, if this thing runs like crap on battery it's going straight back to HP for sure.
I am sick and tired of HP's tired repsonse of "the battery can't sufficiently power the CPU" bla bla bla... -
Agreed! If I am unable to edit basic HD video footage on battery then HP loses out on a potential sale of 6-9 envy's from my company.
-
Good luck trying to edit HD video with a 1.2 GHz processor...
-
Good luck running a 1.7ghz quad core on a battery. It won't even last an hour. Maybe about half an hour, it is pointless. YOu need o be plugged in regardless. Not to excuse HP, but these CPUs are designed to be able to put out a lot of performance nad use a lot of energy when you tell them to. They are also designed to scale down to work in a laptop, so you have to consider that you are making compromises when running on battery.
Now, if hte i5s are gimped on battery as well, that is just completely unreasonable. These are true mobile CPUs. -
Battery life etc is non-sense. But if HP and many other manufacturers locked these multipliers that low for all these new models, there is a reason. May be something we can not see at the moment. Remember, these manufacturers have been using these CPUs for at least a year now and doing extreme testing. I have seen many examples of limitations and once users break those limitations, more issues came up. Come to think of it, may be this is one of the reasons why ASUS is having trouble with these i7 CPUs. Over heating BSOD issues etc.
