its all personal opinion but i think the think pads are quite ugly. they have the same look that they did back in the 90's.

I will never buy one but i do have to admit those things are built extremely well.

I'm not interested in extending my desktop or anything like that. I want the same exact image on my Envy and external monitor, so I guess that's "copying" as you described it. Can this not be done because of the different native resolutions? Pretty sure my girlfriend's Z can do this without a problem.

The 1920x1200 external monitor will display the same resolution as your Envy, and not its native res.

How much is the HP NS09 battery from the US? isnt availible direct from HP here and runs about £200-£225 from other retailers, wonder if i could get one shipped from the US cheaper.

The one at Sam's club is the old version-- it has a 4830 gpu

The slice battery is $170 from HP, if that's what you're asking for

If you look at your shipped notice there should be a link at the bottom of the box that has the tracking number named "Pre-Sign". Click that and it will open a form with all the info you can print, sign, & leave on your door.

By the way, whats your address again. Muhahaha:wink:

That was me. The Kensington thin-and-light 120W adapters have "tips" for the various models, and when I had the HP dv7t QUAD i7, it would go into Turbo mode when on AC. It would with the Genuine HP adapter. Oddly, the same tip has always worked on other HP models (HDX Dragon 20" beast, HDX16 and HDX18).

Also, the Dell tip DOES ALSO use the center pin method for ID'ing the adapter capability.

    ndkkdn,

I'm from BC and am looking at buying an Envy 15 as well. How's your experience with the Envy 15-1050CA so far?

In particular, I'm concerned about the CPU throttling issue. Does your particular model/build have the same issue? Any other issues you'd care to share?

    Thanks.

honestly, I'm half hoping it does come late so I get more of an oppurtunity to return it and get a macbook pro.

Apple usually releases stuff on Tuesdays, so if they deliver on Tuesday then that gives me that tuesday and the next three to return it. I just wish apple will hurry up.

Mines in Newark meaning it's about a 45 minutes to an hour away from me. Hopefully that means I'm getting mine today. If I do, is there any test or impression people want? I got the i5-540m anti glare machine with a 500gb 7200rpm hdd.

So in order to ever get native on an external monitor that doesn't match the Envy's native resolution, the Envy screen would have to be black?

If the external monitor's resolution doesn't match the envy's either the envy or the monitor's image will be stretched or have black bars, depending on which one has a higher resolution.

No...you just use 'extend desktop' as a previous poster mentioned. You get a bigger desktop, each monitor on it's native res, and you can drag icons and windows back and forth between them.

The external monitor has the higher resolution.

An example is when we hook up our Sony Z (1366x768) to a 1080p TV over HDMI, we are able to go into the Z's display settings and choose among several display resolutions. We select 1920x1080 and end up with a true crystal clear 1080p image on our TV. In other words, there is no stretching to accommodate the larger resolution.

Now we're looking into possibly getting a U2410 with 1200 vertical pixels. Are you saying the 5830 will not have an option to display 1920x1200 on the external monitor once hooked up over HDMI?

I'm sorry, I think I'm still misunderstanding. I've never used an extended desktop but I was under the impression that the window you are working with either needs to reside in monitor 1, monitor 2, or split somewhere in between. Are you suggesting that if one wanted to Photoshop on the external monitor only, they'd simply have to drag the window over to monitor 2 and just work off of that? No way of having the same image rest on both screens with duplication?

I'd like to know about the contrast and colours of the matte FHD screen. Could one of you (fresh) owners probably post some pictures with a all-black background?
    Is there backlight bleeding?

How could you describe the fans during "usual" (no heavy) tasks?

    I'd really appreciate your information!

Wouldn't be so hasty about that.

Both my orders made it all the way to Seattle before 4:30am (needs to get loaded in Seattle for Juneau). Just called fedex and they say both will be delivered this PM.

I changed delivery method to 'hold at fedex office for pick up' and they will call upon arrival. Now I can get them a couple hours earlier.

Those of you who know your orders will be at a fedex location within driving distance today (but to late for delivery) may want to have the order held for pick up. You will have to get HP to make this change to 'delivery method' since they are the shipper, just tell them you are leaving town and need to pickup before monday. Also some fedex locations are open saturday.

No lines on the glossy.... This was my biggest complaint on my glossy envy... I am almost happy enough to consider keeping this even with the battery problems. :)

give me a few hours I do have some work todo today. :)
BTW I have the older glossy envy and the new matte envy side by side I also have an older mbp I can put next to them.

On the old envy with the glossy there is bleeding on the tops and bottoms of the screen only noticable on a black screen though.

Now for the bad news so far... the contrast, color, and sharpness all appear worse to me with both laptops at default settings. I need to get a spyder today and calibrate them.

    ok back to work...
