yes you are correct. I paid extra for the two day.

Can anyone tell me if there will be any problems if I download and save to CD the following programs;
Futurmark benchmarks
CPU-Z
CPUIDHWmon
GPU-Z
HD tune
Real Temp
Since I have 2 new computers coming today I think it would be faster to download to CD now and then load to each machine fro disc. I am unclear if there will be any copy protection or install issues doing it this way.
Any other test / benchmark programs you want to see run on the i5-540m (with SSD) version? Let me know...
I have the glossy and anti glare models coming. Will do a full comparison after calibrating with spyder3 pro.
EDIT: Any recommended SSD 'benchmarking' programs?? -
you should not have any problems with that, also you could save them to a usb drive or even a CF card (I know you have some of those
)
As for the SSD try the crystal mark program it does a decent job of showing random writes. as for the top end sequential speeds almost all current SSD drives can max out a sata connection. -
Since the Envy has no cd drive (and externals are a pain) I'd recommend putting those files on a USB drive.
But, no, you won't have any problems doing it either way
-
When fedex says "At local FedEx facility" or so, is there a way to find out where that is located? If it gets there tomorrow or late tonight I may be able to drive there pick it up.
Also folks, it'd be nice if we can move discussion of the new envy to the "2nd gen" thread, so we don't have to check both. -
Thanks I'll try Crystal mark. As for CF cards, would be nice but I have yet to see any PC that has a card reader for these, kind of odd IMO.
I am thinking of disabling RAID0 in one of the machines and comparing performance. Has anyone tried this yet? And will any of intels 'toolbox' features work with G1's when non-RAID, specifically the 'garbage collection' or whatever it's called? (i know TRIM won't work) -
Call fedex with your tracking number, they have more details than we can see. In order to change for a pick up you will have to call HP resolutions and have them make the change for you. Kind of a pain but doable.
Re: 2nd gen thread, Are we splitting it by processor type? Otherwise all new deliveries are gen 2's aren't they? -
All old thinkpad have one.
I think he means SD? -
Just picked mine up from the FedEx-Kinkos.
Love it love it love it.
More after work. -
Can I get a quick update on whats going on? Sorry, Ive been full with uni lately...
-
as stated the thinkpad w700 has a CF slot of course lenovo builds that workstation with photogrophers in mind including a 100% gamut, and a built in color calilbration device.
I was thinking you had a usb card reader.
I will be breaking the raid after making my recovery disks and doing some benchmarks.
Also I will be testing out the toolkits also. -
Basically the last 30 pages are impatient posts about the new gen 2 deliveries.
The good news is a lot of people will be receiving thiers today
Look for benchmarks soon.
Question; How do you think we should distinguish Gen 1 from Gen 2 on the threads? By CPU, i7 vs. i5 or by Manufacturing date (new GPU etc)?
Also it's been confirmed that the i5 versions are throttled while on battery like the i7's. Which I hope can be corrected by HP as I don't think it is necessary do to lower TDP vs. i7's -
I do have several readers, just seems easier to copy to CD on this computer and load to new machines with external drive, may as well test those out as well
-
By CPU, I had already though of this, and I am waiting for the new ones to arrive to ask for name changing.
Divide the threads on i5 version and i7 version. Rest of specs are basically the same, being the GPU a newer gen and the USB.
How was it confirmed? I know that on battery, boot up on my Envy is SLOOOW, but I have locked my CPU at a maximum possible of 25%, plus the x7 multiplier. But I can get around it...just plug it in or send it to sleep. On sleep mode, the Envy was laying in my messenger bag for 4.5 hours, and battery was drained to 91%...not bad considering the low battery we have... -
Why not just copy over the network? 802.11n should be as fast as normal CD driver. -
An i5 was recieved by 'johnobts (spelling?)' and someone else, they confirmerd, I believe runs at 9X or 1.2Ghz when on battery. Good news is that the apparently the ThrottleStop program can correct this for the i5....EDIT: Error on my part, the ThrottleStop works to allow full performance using the 90W adapter with the i5, not while on battery.
-
Did john confirm anything on battery life? Heat? GPU info? IGP? Or has anyone said anything on that matter?
-
I think he confirmed that the battery life was about 2.5hours and it ran pretty cool.
I think he ran a 3dm06 bench, but that is useless with these procs. I tired to get him to do a Vantage run, but he didn't AFAIK. -
No IGP, heat not an issue and he believes 3 hours possible on 6 cell with minimum settings. I will be doing my own testing on this over the weekend...
EDIT: I think he got 8K+ on 3Dmark06 but he has the 1300x768 screen I believe. Also no USB 3.0. -
So now it is 20 miles away from where I live. It better get here at least on Monday, although if they ship it today that would be awesome.
-
GPUz is still not recognizing my GPU. ATI shows DDR3 and GPUz GDDR3 and no other info...ATITools does not recognize my GPU either...lol...
Well, thanks...3 hours...hmmm, not very promising honestly. -
Open it up. Post the numbers of the memory chips here and I'll tell you.
It's the only way to be sure. -
Try the AMD clock tool, it worked for me and shows GPU temps. forget if it showed memory info.

EDIT: it may be this one;
http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/1641/AMD_GPU_Clock_Tool_v0.9.26.0_For_HD_5870.html
I recall one version worked and one did not. -
I know its redundant but YEAH!!!
1/29/2010 8:21:00 AM DENVER, CO, US On FedEx vehicle for delivery -
First post from my new Envy
!! downloading 3dmark vantage now.
I'm kinda new at benchmarking what resolution should I run it at? Anything else I should do before running? -
Unless you bought it you can only run it once at the default settings. I would just make sure you are on the 'high performance' power plan setting before you start, you also may want to close all apps and reboot before running it.
-
I shoulda called and complained and gotten upgraded shipping. Gonna have to have the in-laws pick up the package on Tuesday
-
Alright sounds good, installing now. Saw something about 1280x1024 resolution, do I need to change my output resolution from 1920x1080 or just leave it that way and 3dmark will run at the lower res?
-
Not certain but I did not see a difference either way, it blacks out the sides of the display, at least on 3Dmark06 which you can run more than once, on Vantage I forget since I only could run once....
-
No. When 3DMark starts it'll change the resolution for you, just like running any game full-screen but not native res. The 1280x1024 is the "standard" resolution, and it's the only way to actually compare your 3DMark scores to all the other scores you see out on the 'net.
-
In fact Pitabred, they are run at 1280x800 here...
-
Just pay the $5 for the basic version of vantage so you can tweak and run it multiple times.
-
Alright, starting the run in about 5 minutes, mine is i7-720QM with 4GB ram, still all the bloatware installed, but we'll see what she puts out anyways
-
Has anyone received their Envy 15 with a 5830 and tried to install drivers with mobility modder? My envy is coming in today but I'm worried about comparability with Catalyst 9 or 10.1.
-
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6aC143-8EqU
here is a very short video showing the difference in glare between the glossy and matte. -
finally got it delivered home
-
I'm sure I'll be to the point of buying it soon enough, on test 3 of 4 now, results soon I guess
-
are the pictures sharper on the glossy or matte ? I thought they look the same in the video
-
Here are my results
3DMark Vantage
4648 3DMarks
10757 CPU score
3908 GPU score
not so bad right out of the box -
liking the lower reflection on the anti-glare
-
Oh Joy, Fedex just left, Unboxing now
-
Hey guys I'm typing his on my new envy. Mine literally came verry cool in the box. As in there was frost on the touchpad cold..
So far running very smoothly and so glad I went with the matte screen. It's definitely a solid upgrade over when I had the glossy version. Absolutely no reflections and the whites just feel a lot more true, clear, and bright.
Won't be able to run tests until later today, but I have the i5-540M, 4GB, 500GB HDD. I'll post up numbers as soon as I can. One big plus I can already say though is that all the little palmrest creaking noises are definitely gone! -
Thanks, fedex.
You say delivery by noon yet you are no where to be found AND my est delivery date conviniently disappeared from your website... -
Mine is still in TN. You lucky sob's!!
-
Sorry it is too hard to get the photos or the video to really show up good.
in my subjective view (I have really good eyesight) i would give an edge to the glossy older screen of course that screen has the dreaded lines and I can't live with that. when I put my older Macbookpro up next to them I can see that the new envy is very close to th macbook. the older screen has a much better black level and contrast.
of course my macbook is calibrated and neither envy is calibrated.
using the macbeth srgb chart from drycreek photo
found here
http://www.drycreekphoto.com/images/Charts/MacbethCC-sRGB.jpg -
Nice. People who ordered 1 week after me are getting their laptops 3 days before me
Gotta love HP
-
Just got my Envy 15 i7. Wee, USB 3.0!
Is anyone thinking reformatting and doing a fresh install, or are most waiting for HP to put the drivers up? -
Just backup the swsetup folder on your c: drive - it has all the drivers and hp stuff in there.
Still unsure about this matte display. Might re-order with the glossy
