He said this earlier, i'm not referring to the screen shots.
-
Not much difference
-
To me, as long as it can play upcoming games like Starcraft 2, Diablo 3 and the Supreme Commander series I will be very happy. Im not a big FPS fan on a PC so getting Crysis to play on high isnt that big of an issue for me!
For me this laptop is more about the power in a sleek and slim package. I will probably pull the trigger for it around Black Friday if Bing has another 40% CB offer. -
4-9-9-24? That's odd. Must have something to do with the i7 architecture.
Still shows a fsb|mem divider? -
Is there any info on when the 1080p screen will be available in UK? I checked HP page and they still list the sh*tty resolution.
-
1) We saw from the video Lisa G recorded and posted it can play FEAR 2 at 1920x1080 well 2) who cares as long as it can play games well 3) I'm not convinced by the CCC that it has DDR3 and not GDDR3 - lets wait until GPU-Z is updated to support this chip 4) I JUST ORDERED MY ENVY! wooohooo
Finally - the neurosis is at an end and I can just be antsy for its arrival. I got it with the i7 820, 8 gigs in 4 dimms, both batteries, the external Blu-ray drive, the 16" Espresso notebook sleeve, 16 gig flash drive, and 3 year warranty w/ accidental (they just "ran out" of the 4 year - damn them!
)
-
That's probably dynamic based upon down/up-clocking dependent upon how active the i7 is at the time of the shot.
-
Not that I know of, I keep checking but nada. Although...Amazon have the basic model in stock and they are listing it as 1080p. I don't know what to trust. I rang HP and the lady who spoke to me bluntly said what is listed is what you will get.
-
Exactly! As long as it plays the games well thats all that matters to me.
"Ran out" of the 4 year warranty? What do you mean by that? -
Yea, that was exactly what I was told when I called them and asked them about the Edge to Edge display. I am sure that is just what they are trained to say. :/ -
The resolution is the only thing from stopping me getting this laptop. I may change my mind if I could see one before I buy but I've checked my local PC world, Comet, Currys, and even Staples, any where that has laptops on display but nothing. Maybe I'm being silly and won't even notice the difference but I just can't grasp why US models have 1080p and we have a cruddy one!
-
The sales rep claims that since last night they "ran out" of the care packages that are sent out with the 4 year warranty w/ accidental protection.
-
It means they don't trust it to last 4 years
This 720p vs 1080p thing, what resolution is most common in this size bracket? Or do the more pricey laptops tend to have the higher res? -
Not entirely sure, but the dell studio xps 16 is running 1080p, Envy 15 in the US has a 1080p screen...Envy 15 in the UK is listed as 720p. So yeah
-
i knew i wasn't crazy!
Get some gaming on it !!!! I wanna know how hot this thing gets. -
If it's a really cool game, it should reduce temperatures.
-
An update for all the Canadian readers on the thread (I know i'm not the only one!!):
The Envy 13 and 15 are available for purchase on the futureshop.ca website:
Envy 13: http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pr...d=EN&dm=DEBUG&sku_id=0665000FS10131418&catid=
Envy 15: http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0665000FS10131423&catid=
Oddly enough...only the Envy 13 is available on the HP.ca shopping website as of right now, and the Envy 15 is marked as "Coming Soon". Somehow Futureshop got access to HPs stock in canada before the Canadian wing of HP did... anyone else think this company is really dropping the ball operationally?
Any Canadians planning on getting this machine? I'm still deliberating it. Tried the SXPS 16 and wasn't too much of a fan. This seems to be the only product with the right mobility, power and style on the market at the moment. -
I'm in the same boat. Had a SXPS 16 for a couple weeks and returned, overall pretty good but the weight, the over saturated screen and the lack of i7 which was due in a month, are just not to my taste. I'm seriously considering envy 15-1050CA now. It would be a much easier decision to make if they actually have the dual hdd bay option.
FYI, the downtown bestbuy (yonge and dundas) also has envy 15's. There's one on display. Go and play with it
-
Awesome! Thanks man, i'm definately gonna go check it out this weekend!
-
For those whose Envy's shipped. Did you happen to order blu-ray?
-
i'm kinda bummed right now. i ordered the base model + slice battery... and it appears earlier than other units that have already shipped. i even used the HP credit card!
-
For those who have had theirs ship from HP.com, where is HP shipping them from?
Has anyone confirmed if Bing.com will repeat BF2008 deals? (Trying to figure out if it would be worth returning my order after receiving it and waiting another 2 weeks to receive a new one...) -
Very interesting how they are shipping out. I am thinking that since I did not get my cancellation confirmation, it would have shipped out today. I can say, that mine is still in production as well.
-
I tried those mic with earpiece, but with only one jack, (something like the one Apple supplied for the iphone), and it works perfectly. This might be a better alternative than the USB port ones.
-
I tried disconnecting the slice, and attaching it back, and the laptop still works without restarting.
-
Thanks for taking the time and giving us the information Hyper. rep+
-
that sounds more like it... i would think with a 6 cell hooked up at all times there would no reason for the laptop to shut off if the slice was disconnected...
-
Hey all...
for those of you who read my earlier posts, i bought my envy 15 today.
I am HIGHLY DISAPOINTED!!!
Even though the screen is wonderful (1080p), and the keyboard rocks to type on... I can get past the heat. When playing games (reason i bought it), the fam on the left goes crazy, the bottom of the laptop is way to hot to touch. I even have it on a laptop cooler and didn;t help out to much. The keyboard part is comfortable - was suprised that the heat is not transfered here. There is no way that you could use this on your lap. Even now, on almost idle, and on battery the bottom is way to hot to put it on your lap.
I am returning it back tomorrow morning.
I had such high hopes for this laptop. HP did it again. HEAT issues! I'm moving to toshiba... sucks that their lower speced, but I know for certain they do not get hot!
I'm putting out a big warning sign to all of you! So much for the mobiletechreview....
Highly dissapointed.... -
this is definitely a concern. so many mixed reviews when it comes to heat... some people say it's above par given the specs (the one review said temps were a positive attribute about the laptop) while some say it's about average and then some say it's a 3rd degree burn waiting to happen. -
wow that is no beuno! My MSI GT725 sits in my lap all the time. Only when I play crysis do I put a cooler under it. Maybe you should look at MSI's offerings as well. I will get another MSI if I send the Envy back.
-
Can someone confirm the lack of vga output on the lappy. This could be the final nail in the coffin for me, without vga output i'm screwed the laptop is no good for me
. Just been searching the net hdmi to vga conversion seems difficult, not many products to support it, hdfury looked good but says it cant handle long vga cables so im screwed in the classroom with ceiling mounted projectors. I see the hp product on the us website, but one its not designed specifically for envy 15 from what i can see, and 2 its not available in uk yet if it ever will be. why didn't they just put a vga out?
-
That stinks! Sorry to hear about that, confirming even more that I am no longer interested unfortunately. Especially since I was going to do a moderate amount of gaming on it.
-
Was that with the 9-cell "slice" battery attached, or without?
-
Yes for me. Blu-Ray, 8 GB RAM on 4 sticks, Win7 Pro, LoJack for Laptops (don't know if that'll come preinstalled or if I get to do the honors).
-
ordered on 10/18/2009, 09:00:08 PDT
still in production, what's going on?
is it because I ordered base configuration? then they delay my order,
HP SUCKS -
Ouch, that sucks. On the other hand, i dont think you are going to be able to use any gaming laptop on your lap
If i run CPU intensive stuff, will it heat up as badly? Is the CPU or the GPU putting out the heat?
Nice to know that the keyboard and screen are great though. What else did you like and dislike?
Will it blue-screen due to heat when running prime 95? -
I did not order base, and I am still in production as well. Even though I canceled, but I do not think I canceled in enough time. I thought it would have at least shipped by now. Interesting....
-
Anyone think a usb to vga adaptor could solve the issue of using this laptop with vga projectors?
-
I had a feeling HP would screw up the Voodoo series with their lack of ability to prevent heat buildup in their laptops. This is what I was worried about from the beginning.
A buddy of mine bought one and it runs extremely warm at idle and extremely hot when under full load. I'm gonna steer clear from all HP notebooks/netbooks til they get their act together on making cool-running products.
I have another friend with an Asus notebook with a 2.1 GHz Core 2 Duo, and the bottom does not get warm. The palm rest stays cool and is even made of plastic shell. I compared it it to a family member's 2.0 Ghz HP Pavilion, way too hot compared to the Asus.
I think HP just has issues with their ventilation system. I was really hoping to get an Envy 13 or 15. Does the 15 really have 2 spaces for hard drives? -
http://www.avdemand.com/HDMI-to-VGA-Converter-p/ctvga-hdmi.htm
products like this do exist... -
HMmmm... I've had 3 laptops, and 2 desktops, while gaming all of them get super hot. I mean you could like roast something from the heat coming out of the exhausts vents. I thought this was normal lol. On one of my Desktops we called and asked if there was coming wrong cause i could fry an egg on the Cd that came out of the drive hahahaha.
-
yeah but he/she said it's too hot for the lap @ idle. That would be a big problem.
-
God thats massive and requires an external power supply. I was looking at maybe something like this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Max-Value-Resolution-Widescreen-MV42432/dp/B001GXR78I/ref=pd_rhf_p_t_2
-
hey that's actually pretty cool, don't see why it wouldn't work
-
I am using my MSI GT725 on my lap right now. It has a much more powerful video card than the HP(256 bit vs 128 bit). It Is barely warm. The fan is at its lowest speed and completely inaudible. Most of the case is plastic. The only time I put a cooler under it is when I play crysis or the like. The palm rest and keyboard never get even warm. Cruising the net, and office use, the notebook never gets hot. If a $2000+ HP "Premium notebook" can't do this I will be shocked and return the notebook.

Very funny
it said Estimated to ship on October 28, 2009) it's today

October 28, 2009 is the estimated PC build date.

Well, mine has supposedly shipped, but the FedEx tracking number has yet to work. I'm wondering if it missed the FedEx pick-up deadline last night, and is actually going out today.
Anyone who's received the e-mail from HP with your tracking number: does your tracking number show any status yet? Or does the FedEx site claim to not recognize it? -
The MSI Cooling system doesn't look any stronger than the Envy 15's.
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/eurocom-d900f-panther,2354-5.html
Maybe the 15 feels warm/hot simply becuase it is metal (transfers heat much more than plastic).
I'd probably judge the cooling more on what it keeps the CPU and GPU core temperatures. Probably need to compare I7's to I7's here.
I don't use my laptop on my lap though, but if I did I would probably try out the thermapak/ixoft pads first since a lot of macbook/powerbook users found them good. -
This has happened to me a few times with dell. Sometimes it can take a while before it shows up in the computer. One time, it did not show the progress at all and just arrived at my house.
-
Well I have been told, in this thread, that the i7 runs cooler than the C2D at idle. The palm rest and screen surround are all metal. MSI's i7 notebooks will be shipping early Nov
