i like it too, he mentioned not wanting to carry around an external drive cause he travels, yet he wanted to see a 17inch version of the envy (question mark) ?

i'm having trouble figuring out how to use the bing discount. i know the bing discount for the envy is over but i would like to know how to use it for future deals. how do you get bing discounts? anyone know any other current deals, like monitors etc...
-
Go to bing.com, click more on the left -> Cashback bottom left. Browse stores if you don't know what you are looking for.
For the HP one it was accessed through an add when you used bing to search for 'HP' (and similar keywords). If you search now you should see similar adds, but they are 3-5%. The adds with cash back have a little gold doillar sign icon with motion lines next to it.
Once you are ready to act on a deal use the sign-in in the upper right and use your windows live account or register for one. You might then have to enroll in bing cashback account (cashback account section in upper left of cashback home). Find a link on Bing search or the cashback stores links and start a new shopping session. It should popup a bing login when you go to the site to let you know the cashback rate and that it is active.
You might check the deals forum to see when a Bing hot deal comes up. Odds are something will come up on black friday. -
I remember people who get the envy shipped yesterday got the notifications from HP around this time. But I have not received mine today yet. The status still shows Order in production (Estimated to ship on October 28, 2009). Has anybody received shipping notification today?
-
Edit: I have not even received my cancellation notice, so not sure if I am getting mine or not now. very confused..... -
Good news! One minitue ago, I received the shipping notice.
-
Edit: Never mind -- Mine is now "shipped," but it was a coincidence that I had just logged out of the site, then checked. (Because I just got the email too)...
-
-
So bub, they shipping it you or not?
-
-
Shipped as well.
Custom with only modification being the addition of the DVD drive.

Yep, shipped as well. Ordered on the 18th with 25% BCB. with the Slice and Ext CD.
Tracking number not showing up yet...here's hoping I have it on Friday though...although honestly, I'm pretty sure I'm not gonna keep it, but fun to play with anyway. -

Hey prospective and current Envy 15 owners,
I was going to mention this earlier, but I now have a latest drivers thread up for this notebook series. This is particularly useful for those who did Windows clean installations, and are now trying to reinstall all of their device drivers from scratch to the latest version available.
Be sure to visit it at http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=426181. Thanks! -

I Ordered my Laptop on October 18th at 3:34 pm Est, and mine STILL has not shipped!!!! Even though the estimated ship date was the 28th.
I ordered the Base model with the 9 cell battery. -
lol so mine is the only one that hasn't shipped.
and yes, i ordered the day of launch, early in the day
check that, looks like I am not the only one. i also ordered one with a slice battery -
If so, that would be a serious blunder by HP - this is a great virtualization platform with quadcore and 16 GB, almost the only game in town (Dell M6400 being the other one), but with a low-resolution panel virtual desktops become difficult to work with. -
I'm just waiting for someone to visit a ComputerCity shop in Sweden and reporting the real resolution, hopefully the specifications claiming 1920x1080 resolution are right. -
-
There was a discussion 10-20 pages back about advantages of high resolution on such small screens.
-
-
The Dell Inspiron 9400 (e1705) I'm typing this on is 39cm wide and the Envy 15 is 38cm wide, I'd guess the screen borders on this machine is wider too. -
let's hold off on any judgments then. What a mess this is! BTW Dustin Home also lists it as 1366x768.
-
-
I'm starting to wonder if my laptop shipped and they forgot to change the status? I hope that's the problem :/
-
Would you still be happy with a 720p screen when you know they make laptops that have a 1080p screen? But you aren't given the choice which to have?
As long as the screen quality is nice, bright, and full of colour then I won't mind I guess. But I just don't have the opportunity to see one before I buy. -
-
Mine "shipped" last night at 10:53pm CST. Ordered Envy 15 on Oct. 19th, 8GB Ram, DVD-RW, Win7 Pro, and Slice upgrades.
Fedex tracking number still not live... anyone got theirs and can confirm where it ships from and how long it took for their delivery?
Also, anyone know if there is a retroactive way to get the Bing.com discount? I ordered on the 19th, yet found out about the 25% Bing deal on Tuesday the 20th... -
-
-
-
..........But I guess it doesn't give you any advantage if your package doesn't go anywhere.
-
hey all,
Sorry for my absence. Been reeling in disappointment.
Now that I am not so pissed off with HP anymore, I'll explain more clearly why I had to return the Envy
Small point - I used the envy while on my targus notebook cooler (has two small fans which blow cold up upwards).
First impressions where fantastic! Screen was amazing, really bright, crisp rich colour. Win 7 scaled nicely. Keyboard was a dream to type on. The switched function keys irritated me. I use the f keys a fair bit. The trackpad was nice, used the tap to click. The button to turn on and off worked, but not great. Didn;t really try the 2 finger scroll. Although it wouldn't tap click if you had another finger on the trackpad at the same time. The external cd was great. Has a really short cord, meaning you cant put the cd drive on the left side of the comp - either sits on the right or behind it.
Start up is fast, no real bloat ware noted.
As i started to install programs and copy files over from my ext hd, the laptop started to warm up. The fan sped up slowly. Has 3 settings. 1 sounding not on but on, 2 on, 3 whirlwind speed. Reached 2 while doing these sorts of things. The underside warmed up, for some would def be uncomfortable to have sitting on your lap.
I installed Test Drive Unlimited. Not the most hardware demanding game. After 15 mins of playing, the fan kicked into 3 mode. The keyboard and the trackpad remained warm - fine to use, but noticeably warm. THe underside was scorching hot, particularly one point below the trackpad which, no joke, almost felt as a hot as the side of a kettle once you've boiled it.
I dont know if anyone noticed, but I recall watching the youtube vid of the envy in action playing fear, crysis etc. If you listen, you can actually hear the fan! I think the scene with the guy in the heli rings a bell.
I had some friends over later and we played some HON. Exact same story with that. Fan on high, undercarriage hot! There was no way you could use that on your lap while it is under load. I would even be a little cautious putting it on certain surfaces.
I was soo disappointed!! I had such high hopes for the Envy. Had it not been for the heat, it would of been my dream and perfect computer! But alas, HP had to let me down.
When I took it back to work, all my colleagues asked if I thought it was just a fault with that one unit in particular. I replied with a no. In hindsight, I dont quite no how a unit that slim, with that high end componentry could possible remain cool enough to work on. Im 95% sure that this was no isolated incident. I would love to be proved wrong because the Envy 15 really did tick every one of my requirements for a lappy,
I replaced it with a toshiba a500. Half the price, half the speed. No heat problems. Plays both games great on my lap. No third degree burns.
Really disappointed with HP and the Envy 15. Stop with the damn form over function!
I had the envy 15-1021tx
core i7-820, 8gb ram, 4830 1gb DDR3 (i checked that in the catalyst control), 1080p screen, ext dvd. No slice -
-
I personally realized after using a dell xps 1530 that anything that slim should not be on your lap if you're doing anything intensive (gaming, rendering, etc.). That gets scorching hot to the point that you cannot touch the bottom at all, which it seems is also true for the envy. But realistically they don't have all that much space to work with for cooling a quad-core and a fairly potent gpu, so I wasn't expecting miracles with the heat coming into it.
I know for me I just want it to stay cool when I take it with me to class and just surf the net, watch some youtube videos every now and then, listen to music, etc.
segail11, you mentioned you were using a targus cooler, are you sure that's not covering up the fan intake on the envy, because I've had that problem with a few coolers I tried out with my current laptop. That's a surefire way to heat things up very fast. -

Does anyone know if the Bing Cash Back program works in conjunction with the HP EPP store?
Edit: I posted this here because I'm looking specifically at the Envy 15. -
they changed their policy from last year (when it used to work)
