With spyder you can create custom profiles for each monitor, so you'd need that in order to calibrate both the displays. There shouldn't be too large of a difference if the same model panels are being used between envy's, so mine should hopefully give you noticeably better results.

For example the start bar used to be a blue-shade before and after calibration actually looked like a smokey black color. I'd say that's a pretty noticeably better difference, which you'll hopefully see as well. Be sure and create a backup so that you're not overwriting the original profile so you can switch back if anything goes wrong.

What I've been trying to do is create a link to actually save the color profile for download. But I think I might just simplify it and just give you the numbers for the colors to use. Let me go ahead and try that once I get back to my envy. Still on campus for now.

    Hi,
I'm new to this forum and although this is not an answer I would like to post my question.
I have a problem with the light sensor of my envy 15. With the light sensor turned on the brightness of the screen more or less constantly flickers, independent of the brightness all arround. I talked to HP support. After a few days absence, they just told me to turn the sensor off in Win 7. Which I did and the flickering stops. HP is not willing to provide another solution and closed the ticket. I'm not sure whether Win 7 seven causes this problem or the driver program of the sensor.
Is there anyone who has detected the same problem or has any idea, suggestion how to deal with this problem.
    Thanks!!

Try uploading using a file upload service and then posting the link here. For instance, try going to http://www.filefactory.com/ and click on the Browse button to select the file that contains color profile. Next click the Upload button

The file should start uploading and after it completes you should be given a link that starts with "http://www.filefactory.com/file/". That will be the link to the file you just uploaded, post that link here and we should be able to download it.

You can also use the Email links button to send yourself an email message that contains the links.

Do you know of any easy file hosting site I can use to upload the associations file? I have it saved but I need a way to make it available for download.

EDIT: I've uploaded some more pictures for the calibration for you on my photobucket album. Link is provided below. I'll have the upload for the color profile once I figure out a free way to host it for people.

--> Thanks wbo, I'll get that done later in the evening today once I get back.

BTW, doesnt the attachment button work for that Genryu/?

Yes, there is a separate option in the driver settings to enable vertical and horizonal scrolling, and gestures can be turned off while these options are enabled.

Ok. I know I normally post a random thing by this time, this is the reason, the next time I log in, I can see my last post, and read from there on in this thread.

I suggest you give it a read to the OP, 220 pages ago (wow) and let me know what you think about it. I am constantly updating it with new information (and it is starting to get quite heavy to load) but if you ask me (and it is not because I did it) this is the best way to keep an owners thread, with the OP updated with useful information instead of the typical "Start Here" OP and people have to go thru and read the entire thread to find something useful...

Anyways, that is not the point. Just let me know if there is something to be updated/added. I will do so in the morning.

Good night people, and keep me posted!

Well I just returned my Envy to BestBuy. Mine had very little scratches on the side, some of the frame seem a bit out of place in the front of the laptop and it was making a weird rattling noise when tilted left to right.

I love this laptop so I think I'm gonna order one straight from HP and not get a quick ship model.

That's what that particular notice means, but depending upon what hubs it's going between, it can arrive early. Mine came straight here (Florida) with no stops via ground.

I bought a bluetooth mouse from buy.com, left Bloomington CA on the 5th, scheduled delivery is the 11th.

Laptop also came from the Bloomington CA hub, left on the 7th, scheduled delivery was originally the 12th, but they just bumped it to the 11th a few hours ago.

Which means I get my laptop a day early. Woohoo!

If you got an exception, it's possible that the system was expecting an update on a particular date, but no update was provided because the box/truck was never scanned, or it never stopped anywhere.

About the GPUs, if anybody compares this to Toshiba x505, keep in mind that the 250M on that machine comes with GDDR5 which makes the 250M close to 9800M GT performance and probably much better than the 4830. Just a note.

    Very Useful,

No idea on when the SSD's will be available on that list?

I see that there are now hybrid SSD/HDD models.

I'm hoping to replicate that setup on my ENVY but I'm unsure if I order a 1.8 inch SSD and HDD and 576829-001 if that will work.

Lack of info from HP. I called them twice, they have no idea when anything will be available. c chiant!

There is one posted in the OP as an option.

    A 160GB SSD plus a 250GB HDD that make 410GB total.

Yes I already have my machine with a single 2.5" drive.

But i'd love to get the 160GB SSD and the 250GB HDD in mine to replace the single drive.

What braket / adaptor to order is whats stopping me. Unless someone out there ordered that setup by mistake and would prefer a single 500gb HDD :p

Having come from a Toshiba x300 with a vertex SSD and more recently a Sony AW with 2 SSD's in a RAID 0 i've really been spoilt.

The ENVY just flies after apps have been run once. ie

    Turn the machine on,
    Boots,
Launch Outlook, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Filezilla, Apache MySQL.
Takes 3 minutes odd on this 500gb drive. On SSD machine took 60% less time.

But once their up for the rest of the session its like working on an infinately powerful machine! Until I have to reboot... :D

Yes, I believe that is what he is saying. In windows, when you first boot your computer and start a application then close it, the next time you start the same application will load faster since it is already in memory.

I had a question about the review of the Envy 15 on Notebookcheck.net located here: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-HP-Envy-15-Notebook.22272.0.html

On the battery tests that they ran. Were they only using the standard battery or were they using the standard battery with the extended battery slice?

EDIT: I just got a Estimated Delivery Date of my Envy 15. It will be at my house Friday before 12am EST!!

Time to start photoshop after cold boot, 20 seconds.

Then I close photoshop maybe for an hour for example.

Time to open photoshop after its been open once before, 3 seconds.

There is also the dual SSD option on their site too, Serg:

320GB Dual Solid State Drive Flash Modules (SSD 160GB + SSD 160GB) (+$500.00)

I tried changing/upgrading my pending exchange order, but it's dropped to the factory and cannot be changed at this point. :( I would have liked the SSD and HD option. I guess I'll go with a 2.5" SSD down the road instead.

Yep Win7 (and Vista) uses all available memory as disk cache. Memory used for caching is still marked as available, so if an app needs memory then the least used in the cache is discarded.

This goes for data as well as programs. I sometimes edit 320 megapixel images (1.8 GB drum scans), and with 8GB memory (on a -2006 desktop) those images load in a second or two if cached.

Recommendation is clear here - if you work with large amounts of data on disk then get as much memory as you can afford. Too much is not enough hehe. Large amounts of RAM will also noticeably offset the advantage of an SSD (in read situations).

All this assuming you're running x64 OS, of course. No reason to stay with 32-bit OS anymore, unless you have specific demands.

Envy 15 is looking more attractive (the US config with 1080p screen, that is). I have an opportunity to ask a friend to bring one here (Sweden) from California over the holidays.

People in the US who ordered the quick-ship config, how many days between order and delivery? Was it shipped from China or from inside the US?

    Thanks,

Hey guys I don't know for sure if the file I got for the profile is working, but here's a link. So the steps you'd need to follow are outlined below after downloading and saving the file in the link provided locally on your hard drive.

    http://www.filefactory.com/file/a1a6ec1/n/HP Envy.icm

    1) click the windows icon in the bottom right (default location) and then search for "color calibration"
    2) select "change advanced color management settings"
    3) Under the "Devices" tab, you'll the various color profiles that are currently being used.
    4) Select "Add" and find the .icc file you got from me and it to the list and enable it for use.

That should be about it for what you need to do to use the profile I created. If there are any problems with it let me know, and please note that these profiles are designed to calibrate a single monitor and may not work well for everyone. Experiment, change some settings around until you're happy with the picture. This should however be a lot clsoer to what it should be than the default settings with that "bluish" tint.

EDIT: All of your color profiles by default should be in the following location for those who are interested

    C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\color

Dropped off the envy 15 in fedex saturday for a replacement. Was promised next day business shipping on the replacement unit, meaning I was supposed to receive it tuesday. On Monday morning I spoke to them and I was told that within 12 hours of the phone call I'll receive my tracking number. 12 hours later since I received no email I called them and they said that they will ship it on tuesday and that I'll receive it on Wednesday. Yesterday I get an email that my order was cancelled due to the qs models being oos. Seems like I'm done with hp. Gave them another chance and they messed up again

Thanks guys the packaging was awesome. And for the 30mins I've been using it for it was fantastic. The palm rest was a bit hot but I did the hdd to be the hotest. Used to that though so I'm happy!

Glad to hear it csquared, how's the monitor look to you? I think a few pages back people were feeling it had a bluish tint to it so I posted my calibration profile for anyone to use if they wanted it (used a spyder 2 pro). Definitely cannot complain about the quality though by any account.
