That error message looks like you tried to open the HP Envy.icm file within your web browser. You should have an option to save the file to a folder on your hard drive. Then you can open the Color Management application and associate the HP Envy.icm with the display.

Yeah wbo I think you're right. I'll pm you the instructions serg so you can post it in the OP too for anyone else who's interested.

@wbo, does the profile at least load alright for you? Have you tested it at all?

I was able to download it but I can't really test it yet because my Envy hasn't shipped yet.

I ordered a custom build with 8GB of RAM on October 30th and right now HP says it should ship on Friday. That means I should hopefully have it Tuesday or Wednesday next week.

Well, I got mine today. Overall, looks great. I'm installing all my software right now.

Buuuuuuut ... it doesn't recognize the slice battery. Just says "Not Installed". I did remove the piece of tape from the bottom of the computer. I guess I'll be calling HP this evening.

Yep on and off, bloody annoying. Not hugely promanent but none the less still there.

However its of a frequency that people over a certain age can't hear it!

HP people tell that dual SSD version has Intel SSD drives. Having 2 Intel 1'8 SSD for +$500..... How they do it??? Is everything ok with that price?

Here are two useful tools for managing and understanding display profiles. Both are freeware.

DisplayProfile lets you easily switch between profiles:
    http://www.xrite.co.uk/product_overview.aspx?ID=757&Action=support&SoftwareID=539

CalibrationTester shows the loaded linearization tables:
    http://www.xrite.co.uk/product_overview.aspx?ID=757&Action=support&SoftwareID=546

Using CalibrationTester you'll see that the profile that Genryu posted shifts the whitepoint heavily towards warmer (lower) temperatures - 5000K? Did you happen to measure what the native color temp was? Anyways that much shift is a bit too much for my taste - display loses a significant fraction of its brightness.

You might also want to check if native color temp of backlight had been modified before calibrating. Does everyone have a very cool (almost bluish) tint?

It should have a before and after saved record for what it should be for the original color temp but it was quite far from warm as I saw the spyder pro running to try and adjust the images.

Test it out and play with the options to see what it does for you, you should be able to modify it to your liking. I'll run another calibration in a few more days to double-check and make sure ambient light wasn't affecting my results (which is entirely possible).

No envy here (ok actually lots of envy) just looking at the linearization tables.

Good news is that the curves are nice and smooth, so it's a decent panel.

Thanks for that. I will be moving that to the front.

Hi there! And welcome to the NBR Forums and to the HP Envy 15 Owners Thread, were we all make the thread...

As long as the OD is USB powered it should not give any problems.

If anyone knows of a good external blu-ray drive that's relatively cheap (~100-125) I would really appreciate a link. I was trying to get the one sold with the hp mini 311 but it's not listed anywhere on their site as a separate accessory.

    Welp, in four simple words,

    I effing hate it.

    1) Battery slice isn't recognized. That can be fixed, no biggie. And the 6-cell works fine.

    2) The OEM install of Windows wouldn't boot. It just sat on the blue "Please wait..." while Windows is starting. Forever. Eh, not a big deal since I was going to do a clean install.

    3) I do a clean install, and start installing drivers from the Envy 15 latest drivers thread. The first any only one I install is the Intel Storage Matrix one. BSOD on restart. Attempt to start in safe mode, sits in "Please wait" while Windows starts forever, same as above.

    4) When booting, I pushed Esc > F11 to do a system recovery. It just tries to boot Windows as normal (resulting in afore mentioned BSOD). I might have messed this up when I did my clean install. But I put it on the only partition it would allow me to. (The largest one, 450 or so gigs.)

    5) Go to start another clean install, computer randomly turns off, will not turn back on. Not with the battery (the one that works), not with the a/c adapter, nothing. I now have a sub-$2000 aluminum brick.

I knew I shouldn't have bought another HP.

Is +$500 worth it for the dual SSD config? Cause I'm sure they're 1st gen Intel drives, not 2nd gen.

Is that a cheaper price than you can get them for on ebay etc.?

Yes definitely worth it. I got myself an Intel 160GB X18M for $450 and the cheapest before this was around $650, so it's a steal if you're buying a new machine now.

I ordered my Envy 15 on Oct 18th as well. My order was suppose to ship on the 28th but was delayed until the 11th, same as yours. Mine was shipped yesterday (the 10th) and is estimated to arrive at my house on Friday.

Im sorry to hear that yours got delayed again.

Okay, well I got the piece of crap to turn on. Apparently it overheated and shut itself down.

But I cannot for the life of me get the slice battery to recognize. It works ... sometimes. Has to be at a particular angle, but if you so much as nudge it, it loses connection.

    Anyone else having this problem?

just got my notice of additional delay, 11/16.

    Dear Valued Customer,

Due to continued product constraint of one or more components in your custom PC, we will be unable to ship your order on the revised estimated ship date. We expect your PC to ship on 11/16/09. Your response is now required within three business days to accept this delay if you still want this order to ship. If we do not hear from you within three days, we are required by law to cancel the unshipped order.

Please respond either by email or calling our toll-free customer service number at (866) 217-6014. Customer service is available between 7:00 A.M. - 2:00 A.M. (ET) Monday through Friday and 10:00 A.M. - 7:00 P.M. Saturday and Sunday. Due to the additional delay we would like to offer you a 10% discount off of your custom built computer. Please accept our sincerest apologies for any inconvenience this additional delay has caused. We thank you for your patience.

    Regards,

    Ryan Presley

I called and asked if the 10% off would void my bcb. I asked 3 times because Nancy was hard to understand. YES IT WILL VOID YOUR "25% MSN CASHBACK" she called it. Be carefull! HP is obviously trying to get out of the 25% bcb.

    boo hp... boo!

Yeah the touch pad really sucks. Luckily for me I won't be using this on the go very much for a while so I'll just make do with a wireless or BT mouse. Other than that though, so far I'm pretty happy with it. It's pretty much silent for me 90% except when it starts up or comes out of hibernation. at which point the fans seem to go warp speed for about 2-3 second and then spin down. I haven't really stressed it much so I can't say anything about temperature at load but when doing basic tasks it's only slightly warm. It did crash on me one point during intial setup, but I'm willing to bet that has more to do with Windows than the computer. The screen is great looking too. My only regret is maybe not for going for the beats edition, but that's only because of the color (and even then you have that giant, stupid "b" on it).

I really need to upgrade this machine to SSD; I guess now that the SSD option is up on the HP website, I can see several options that maybe available to me, depending on HP policies. Is anyone here familiar with HP policies regarding:

    1) Returns of products, does the 21 days mean 21 days from purchase, or 21 days from the time that I receive the product?

    2) Returns of products that was purchased with warranty? I did purchase with the 3 year accidental; but I have not activated the service with the machine yet.

    3) Exchange of products, how easily could it be done through HP, for the same machine of a different configuration?

    4) Bing cash back, would it still be valid if I decided to exchange it for the same machine of a different configuration?

    5) Since the HDD doesn't seem to be a consumer serviceable part, would it endanger the warranty if I changed out the drive myself? Or would they even care about that?

    6) How easily can HP parts such as the 1.8" brackets be obtainable from HP, some time in the next few months; based on experiences with HP products in the past.

I guess depending on the answers to these questions, I would have the option of A) returning and buying anew; B) exchange for another configuration through HP; C) change out the HDD myself with a 2.5" and just forget about it; D) wait until the appropriate parts are available, then change it out with two 1.8" drives.

I would like to keep the BCB; but if there is no other way of getting an SSD into that machine, then I might just have to let that go, and try to find some lesser discount to work with.

Any insight would be much appreciated.

After reading the posts I called Hp about the bcb and hp 10% off. Shine was the agent's name and she was easy to understand. She guaranteed me that it WILL NOT affect my 25% bcb. This is conflicting to what Nancy told me last night but Nancy was hard to understand. I took the extra 10% and asked for an email stating that it will not affect my 25% bcb. I will post the email if I actually get it.

Has anyone tried underclocking/undervolting to see how low (operating temps) these CPUs can go? Sorry if I missed any posts on underclocking in last 100 pages, this thread grew too fast.
