If you order the HDD and want to upgrade to daul ssd's later, is that possible to put in raid0? Or do you need some special BIOs from HP or need to have it setup that was from HP?

There aren't many, but they are out there: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...0208459&cm_re=pata_ssd-_-20-208-459-_-Product

I had the Dell XPS1645 in gloss black and the gloss black was a pain.
-
Oh yes, I know. The problem is that they are really expensive, and I never thought it was justified to spend so much money for a drive for an old laptop.
-
TBH, I can't see how anyone would choose the Beats over the standard. It's cheaper to make but they charge you more, it looks much worse (believe me, I had the Dell SXPS 16 and it was terrible), and it's got the exact same specs but with OK headphones, that you could buy comparable ones for cheaper elsewhere.
-
I almost bought it...until I saw the price....and the reason? I didn't see that damn ugly HP logo anywhere on it, I thought it'd be cool to have people walk up to me and ask who is "B"?
-
cheaper to make? maybe the chemical process or whatever to put the pattern on back and the palmrest. but i'm assuming the beats is still made of aluminum/magnesium, no high gloss plastic like my ps3. I'm just curious as to how the applied the piano finish, what sort of process did they go through? Some sort of polymer base coating?
-
What do you do that you get to travel like that?
-
Same here, except I have 2 regular envy's (no beats).
I saw the coupon the day after I order so I placed another order. lol
I have 1 with the glossy 1080p and 1 with matte. I'll keep whichever is nicer
-
D13S3L:
If you could tell me if they are the 1.8 or 2.5in drives? Oh and also, do you know if they're the G1 or G2s? Thanks! -
i would like to know this to
-
yeah, the glossy/matte is what i'm more interested in comparing. also want to see if the lower res screen is brighter, that's what the hp rep told me over the phone.
-
I couldn't live with the lower res, even if it is brighter.
I am a res junkie so 1080 was the only option
-
Serg is from South America, but goes to university or something in Paris, so the trip to South America was probably going home to see family et al. I think the trip to London was to see a relative, I can't recall exactly.

Sure, i'll post the details tonight regarding the windows experience score. Nothing on usb 3.0 so far. -
What drives came installed ? G2 or G1 version? - Not sure, i'll check tonight.
Was this result straight out of the box or did you 'tune' things first? - This was straight out of the box. The only thing i did before this was create the recovery disks and remove a couple of the HP bloatware programs. -
Can you create recovery disks as isos on an external drive?
-
I believe that they are two 1.8s. I'll check tonight to make sure.
-
I am about to order one but I am not sure about a couple of things.
1. I am interested in getting the beats edition but am not quite sure if it is worth the extra price. How does it look compared to original envy in real life?
2. What screen to get. The glossy or matte display. I prefer the glossy display. However, some people previously complained about the horizontal lines on them and I am not sure if this is still an issue that they haven't fixed.
As I live I in the UK, I will not be able to order 2 and then keep one. So I'd like to know what you think. When are you expecting your orders to arrive? -
The SSD's are G1's.
-
AFAIK, the G2 1.8" SSD's haven't been released thru retail channels. I tried buying one a few months back and I still do not see any available. IMO, they are a myth right now. Yeah, the specs have been released and there are part numbers, but the drives are ghosts.
So it is reasonable to assume that HP is still shipping G1's. -
mine are both set to ship around the 18th (maybe sooner?). The standard edition envy is coming with 2 day shipping, the beats is 5-7 days, that will give me time to play with the standard version with a matte display. I'll let you know my impressions, but looks like I won't have mine till next week at the earliest. i'm curious to know if i'll be able to install a 1.8 ssd after purchasing (will I need an adapter, drive cage, or anything)?
-
I keep checking the support site for new drivers, manuals, etc for the i5 envy but no go so far.
Wonder when they'll put something up? Peoples systems should start shipping next week or late this week. -
I have an HP Envy 15. Is there a way to set the function keys so they act as function keys instead of the direct action?
I'm a software developer and so I want the 'F7' key to be F7 by default and not stop.
I know I can make it be F7 by pressing the 'fn' key, but I don't want to have to do that every time.
Also, is there a way to reprogram the Calculator button? -
I asked 'D13S3L' to check on what came on his new envy he received yesterday. His 'tune' numbers seem higher than what I've seen posted before so maybe they are shipping the G2's now. Maybe just wishful thinking on my part though....
-
-
There may be a bios setting to switch the functions keys around.
Have you checked? -
Not sure about the Calc button, but I hear there's a BIOS option to change the behavior of the function keys. Check through that.
-
Thanks for the links but did you even read them? You linked me X25m's which are 2.5" drives.
I was clearly talking about the X18m's, which are 1.8" -
Edited with this, my bad thanks to stupid google shopping page http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=10010802&prodlist=froogle

Yeah, did you see the big "NOTIFY ME" button?
Every website is like that.
Ghosts, I tell you... -
Yes you can by BIOS setup option. There is some info on here about a program (freeware?) that let's you reassign keys, can't remember when that was posted though.
-
There was a program that somebody posted not too long ago that does this, but due to the fact that the search function of this site is basically worthless I can't search for it to give it to you.
This thread has had a lot of activity in the past couple weeks, but I think it was in the past week or so.
I may have bookmarked it on my other laptop and will post it if I find it, unless somebody else does first. -
There available if your willing to pay for them.....

Never mind those were g1's

LOL....
You guys keep on searching
-
So I'm not sure if this has been mentioned or not but I just ran across it at cnet and it was just posted today...

Thanks! I sure hope Sheila Watson knows what she's talking about
-
, this is major. I thought everything was taken back next week. The significance behind this is that only the quad core i7 models ship with the USB 3.0. That leaves everyone out who got the i5. What a disappointment.... This article doesn't just casually mention the envy as the other one did. It is all about the Envy, and all about the quad i7 configuration.
-
Wow, if that's correct, it looks like it might be time for me to cancel and re-order yet again. Anyone have any idea how long the $300 coupon is technically valid?
-
I agree with Sorrum as I ordered the i5 config with the hope of usb 3.0. Guess I will wait it out and cross my fingers as they have been wrong before...
-
Call it in. It will not work online. Be nice about it, and they'll give it to you.
-
EDIT: NM...
SHould have read the article first
-
it's amazing how they would give usb 3 to the i7 but not the i5 which is the newer of the revisions. I don't quite understand the logic. but regardless I am happy with the i5 choice, I think the battery boost alone and option to choose between integrated and dedicated the way to go. to each their own though
-
Like I said, USB 3.0 means nothing to me.
There is an esata port anyways, so meh..... -
If they only give USB 3 to i7 I'm canceling my order and getting the i7. Can't see investing in something with USB 2 if you can get USB 3.
-
i7 has it's trade-offs as well - more power hungry, heat, no integrated gpu, etc.
-
agreed. but it doesn't make sense that they would only give the i7 usb 3.0 when the i5 board is the newer refresh
-
Exactly. The benefits from the inclusion of USB 3.0 alone justify re-ordering (in my usage scenarios). It's just a shame HP can't manage to be more transparent about this.
-
HP may have intended to use USB 3.0 as a premium feature to spur sales of upgraded i7 configurations. Or it could all be a misunderstanding--after all, it's not as if you can configure an Envy 15 without a 5830 at this point.
