"oooh ooh it's a killing machine....its got everthing.....I love it....I need it"..... lyrics from Deep Purple's "Highway Star"
This is a phenomenal machine....totally exceeding my expectations so far. The sheer size of this puppy is something to behold. Have only had a chance to fool around with it for 7 hours or so but my oh my.......display is awesome......BluRay playback is incredible......Sound System kills. This ain't no laptop but a desktop replacement that you can move around the house a bit and take it on an occasional trip if you want.
There are lots of things about it that set it a part from the pack bit I think the NVDIA 8800M GTS really seals the deal.
For those looking for a desktop replacement, look no further and pick up one of these refurbed units at a great price while they are still available. The unit I received came sealed in its box after being refurbed by HP and from what I can tell, is as good as new.

2.0........didn't mean to imply it got hot when I played a BluRay last night.....it didn't..... but I was able to bring the temps down another 10 degrees or so using the cooler.

i want mod a spd of ram in my hdx, coming soon

Does anyone have a faint super high pitched sound coming from the HDX? If so, does anyone know if there is some kind of fix for this (maybe different bios versions with different fan settings may help?). I have pretty sensitive hearing so it bothers me quite a bit. Thanks in advance!
-
It's a chipset issue, nothing can be done about it. I just wear my headphones most of the time.
-
So it's the cpu making the sound?
-
I (think) it's the voltage regs that feed the CPU. It gets a little louder when I undervolt.

What type of Video card is in this thing (8800M)? MXM-II? MXM-III? Is is a proprietary design? Upgradable? Usable in another system? I was all prepared to take it apart (just because I like to do that kind of stuff) to answer those questions, but I figure someone here has probably done it already.
-
MXM-III. Upgradeable? No due to BIOS contraints. Usable in another system? Possibly. But the GPU is a variant of the 8800M GTS that would need BIOS support on the other system you used it on.
-
what temps do you have with zalman ? (idle and load GPU)
do you have any photos with zalman

Hello my family,
nobody knows me, but I know you all since 7 months.
Speak, write and read "no" English word, and this makes it not very easy for me to post here.
Each word is automatically translated, so I have all 541 pages of this forum to read, and now it is time to have these automatic responses.
If this is understood?
Well for me it was not always the same, but in search of info bites you by the way.
So, my thanks to all those involved here, especially at 2.0, Hovercraftdriver and more ... !
Have some questions about a particular behavior of this notebook. Therefore, I'd like to know what screen resolution PINBALLMAN's HDX has.
WUXGA or WSXGA +?
Perhaps a solution for your favorite game in my head. Or is it already?
Wrote already six pages to Nvidia Germany due to a problem that is on those 541 pages so far only Pinballman too.
As always, please let me know first if the text you ever read it. Otherwise, I prefer to read in the background.
Thank you! Was certainly funny, yes yes I read 541 pages in this completely mutilated form. -
@Pinballman
Sorry, another question, do you have a Blu-ray drive, and if so, whether a disc? -
Looks like you did it again, 2.0 - I'm happy to say that Mame is now working nearly perfect! It still slows down after playing for about a minute (CPU usage is about 6% idle and 34% playing) but it is now momentary and picks back up to normal. Certainly playable now. Still having problems with vPinMame - starts off okay as before, and when the slowdown occurs the ball movement becomes very slow and choppy, along with distorted-stuttering sound and doesn't get any better (CPU usage around 60%) making the table unplayable. Pinmame doesn't have the adjustments like Mame or Mess has, so I've been experimenting with whatever I can adjust hoping to find a working combination. I'm wondering if maybe there's a problem with DirectX 10 on my system?
-
Hi
I have a WSXGA+ display; also have a blu-ray drive - not sure what you mean by whether a disc on your next post. -
@Pinballman
Sorry, hab grad only very little time because the food on the table.
Please enclose a Blu-Ray disc, start QuickPlay (window mode) and play!
Then start your pinball game and see if it runs better. What is important here is Blu-ray must be running in the background!
This is just the nature of the clocking 8800M GTS.
These should be placed on Core 383 MHz Mem Clock 301 MHz and 766 MHz Shader be fixed.
If this solves your problem, I could write more on this later.
Otherwise, sorry!
Will eat now ... -
Hi RickiBerlin
Thank you for your interest in my problem; I'll give your suggestion a try! -

Very, very nice find! This should be added to Blacknight's post on page 100!
Welcome to the club! -
Thank you!
Yes, this greeting I wanted! (this is a compliment .... can but unfortunately no English)
I am very pleased, just received from you to be.
Have a big problem and wonder if it is only the WSXGA + models concerns.
It has, as I remember you with two HDX - yes?
2 x WUXGA?
Which clock works 8800m GTS at idle without any activity? (Possibly 200 MHz or higher?)
GPU-Z information I would be rich, even if they are very imprecise.
Clocket the GPU at 500 MHz as soon as you, for example in this forum, the arrow keys up and down scrolls?
If you have everything with "yes" answer can then watch but please try this tool: http://www.thesycon.de/deu/free_download.shtml
your latency while the clock change!
(DLP-Latency Checker does not require installation)
This is not a direct link, because it is a 32 a 64 bit version!
Would like not to blame, because someone else in the Auswal not careful.
Too many questions?
But I have many answers! ;-) -
Yes, extremely nice!!! Especially the disassembly videos. Welcome aboard mate.
-
@ Hovercrafdriver
Thank you for your friendly welcome!
Have a lot of you read, inter alia, the ESA tools on your pre-installed.
(During normal nTune 5.05.54.00 was indeed the shader clock is not configured)
And this is despite the automatic adjustment to the core clock is important.
What do you lower clock actually in normal operation?
Did my experimental underclock C-107 /M-106 /S-220 on
(please do not try!)
This represents a real stroke of C-115, 71/M-105, 75/S-236,248 (PM off)
Works without problems, but by P.M. off higher operating temperature.
This is exactly my problem!
Who knows the exact GPU voltages in the four pre clock levels?
(500/383/275/200)
Who knows how to P.M. off the voltage at the bar can be adjusted? -
I have the WSXGA+ in both HDX's. Idle core clock is 200mhz. Running the program you linked to, max latency from 200mhz to 500mhz was from 6284 to 86492 micro secs during several test runs.
Neat little program. -
Thank you for this information and sorry if I have it now on a problem of attention must HDX, which they previously may not yet known.
Perhaps it is for them but not before.
Attention, following the link serves only a technical test!
Take it to the test of 2.0 offline again.
This is not a political statement!
-------------------Link only on request as politically sensitive - sorry--------------------
So please 2.0 video in full screen mode, and after exactly 60 seconds and take picture Sound Drops.
These are governed by the rule of wide contacts among the GPU causes.
(500 MHz for 30s + 383 MHz for 15s + 275 MHz for 15s end and 200 Mhz under clock / undervolting)
Their high latency of up to 86,492 micro secs is so high, that they sound and Video drop outs can be generated.
DPC base in Vista ca 1000μs
DPC base in XP ca 300μs
(Spikes not included)
There are spikes of up to 200000μs. (no ever)
This experiment with the video but only indirectly to do so.
Sorry, again, eat at the table.
Oh, please delete the link but would like to hurt anyone here, even where you are from New York. -
Played the video for 5 mins in full screen and no audio or video drop out. Slight bit of stutter for video every 30 secs or so. But audio stayed in sync.
I'm using Nvidia driver 182.02, Vista x64 clean install. -
Ok, the link will then delete them.
Did you accidentally discover a GPU-Z log created while playing, or do you know with what tact the video in full-ran?
For me, the clock as described from 500 to 200 MHz and 60s made stutter in sound and vision. (only in Full)
Had previously, however, only the original 167.53, and the two 179.28/48 installed.
Thank you for this trial!
And this is not the real problem is, and to me until now, only in this particular video, noticed.
Interesting would be the behavior when Pinballman's HDX.
Far less beautiful are the drop out by fixing inappropriate clocking.
In many situations there PowerM. simply not adapted to the load and switches the clock frequency in a chain.
(for example, some HD Flash streaming video)
This looks like this:
Start Play - up from 200 MHz to 500 MHz
under 30s - down to 383 MHz
under 15s - down to 275 MHz
under 15s - down to 200 MHz (so far ok, but latency spikes at each switching cycle and thus drop out)
after 1s - up to 500 MHz and the game begins anew.
Performed hour experiments (incl.GPU-Z Log) without question, and am in despair.
Turns the automatic but at the bar and sets out the temperature is high.
Tell me how I define the GPU Voltage, without automatic, tactful manner may regulate !!!!!!! ;-)
My GPU idle temperature at 22 C ambient temperature is 42 C (PowerM. on) 200/100/400
is PowerM. off, the temperature at 49 C and this with 107/106/220
What is your idle GPU temperature?
Listen to music while playing and while changing the GPU frequency drop out?
The answer must be "YES", because the latencies are enormous. -
Someone plz help, I'm a total noob. I have one of these monsters, but I have an issue that needs attention. I want to hook two 1920X1200 24" monitors to this, but I have to have both in native res. idk if i can do this with the vidcard in this (GeForce 8800M GTS) and only one hdmi port and vga port. Any suggestions?
I'd also like to know if it is possible to replace the gpu, as I'd like to have at least one dvi port, or is this not possible either? thanks in advance -
You can only connect 1 external monitor to the HDX using either either HDMI or VGA, but not both.
If you want to connect 2 or 3 external monitors to the HDX, you will need a graphics expansion module. Matrox manufactures them. They're mostly used by traders looking for multiscreen setups.
Dual Head: http://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/products/gxm/dh2go/
TripleHead: http://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/products/gxm/th2go/
The graphics card in the HDX is not upgradeable. -
For the video in the link you provided, running it for 5 mins:
GPU-Z sensor log indicates:
@ start was 500mhz.
5 secs later @ 383mhz
15 secs after @ 275 mhz
15 secs after that @ 200 mhz where it remained for 5 mins.
GPU idle @ 20 Deg C ambient is 37 DegC
Watching the video, climbed to 40 DegC then dropped back to 38 DegC after 2mins of playing it.
Interestingly enough, if I set the power plan to High perfromance, the GPU clock remained @ 200mhz during the video.
In any event, I don't believe you can set GPU voltage on mobiles like you can on desktops.
I noticed on sites like Hulu, which streams video, if you pause the stream, it will continue to load the data buffers. If you continue to play the video about 30 secs after pause, you will not experience and stutter. The site you linked to doesn't appear to make use of video buffering which leads me to believe that your internet connection may also play a part in the stuttering. -
Hi,
I have purchased an HDX 9320EG, but the system information under vista and the system information in the bios says HDX 9200er series. I called the support and they told me that this is correct, but I can't believe them. Can any 9320er owner verfiy this? I know that the mainboards are technically the same, but I want to know anyway.
Thanks -
In the early part of the thread, there were a few folks who had this discrepancy. Most HDX 9300 owners report HDX 9300 in BIOS.
-
UGH. Just got the wifi link 5300 and all excited to upgrade only to get stopped at boot for an unsupported device. WHY WHY WHY does HP restrict the wifi cards in their laptops. I mean its an Intel OEM.
Makes me want to have a custom bios written -
I think it's because they get specific approvals from various governments concerning communications devices. In other words, they comply with regulations the cheapest possible way.
-
lovely. anyone know the name of that company that will write a custom bios
-
BIOSMAN does that sort of thing.
-
Dangerous! 4965AGN is more than enough. If you have money you want to get rid of, try a useful (external) "touch" screen mod for your HDX:

-
How hard would it be to order a new screen frame? I cracked mine pretty good around the webcam.

I just ordered one a few days ago. Mine got cracked badly on the corner. My son through a toy at it. Luckily that is all that was damaged. It is not cheap. It came to $90 shipped! I already removed the old one. It is a very cheap and thin peace of plastic. If you look at the video here: http://h20181.www2.hp.com/plmcontent/NACSC/SML/ posted by: RickiBerlin. You will see how flimsy it is.
Here are some pics of it dismantled:

Hello 2.0 and other,
already after 5 s under clock of 500 MHz to 383 MHz is unique and must be in the driver configuration, or lie on the Bios.
182.02? 182.08 or !?
In this particular video will remain in tact, with me as with you, even at 200 MHz. (In my case but only after 60 s, and not already after 35 s like you)
It is not back and forth clocket as it happens in other situations.
(For example, while the TV program switching in the QuickPlay fullscreen)
"The site you linked to doesn't appear to make use of video buffering which leads me to believe that your internet connection may also play a part in the stuttering."
Sorry but! All sources of error I had before the posting of course, excluded. Rather, it is even so that I-Explorer, in this video the beat notes.
That means as long as I can the explorer window does not close, will not be clocked up again. And this also pause, rewind, skip and full-window mode.
The sound and picture drop out to start immediately in this case the switch to full screen mode. (not until after 60 s)
Switch PowerM I made, I have no such disturbances. And even when C-107/M-106/S220.
But then just overvolting in 2D mode

@CompTrekkie
The child is still alive ? ;-) -
Information on problems with high temperatures:
To read the temperature using a lot of "HW monitor" or "PC Wizard 2008".
This influence, however, the temperature control of the BIOS fan control. (Sensor Query)
Normal scheme: GPU fan turns at 54 C at level two.
When cooling in Sufe two, is the achievement of 47.9 C (real 48,5) at level one back.
With "HW-Monitor" and "PC Wizard" * no level two circuit even after the program termination.
(in most cases Winows restart program execution necessary)
* Only when calling: Function Hardware / Voltage, temperature, fan
Reason is the attempt of reading the fan speed.
Even when starting up in fan stage two, this immediately to level one fan reset.
This leads to a completely wrong temperature and the other protocols, it can be running while playing with "HW-Monitor" on GPU death.
I use separate programs so dear for GPU and CPU temperature. 1.GPU-Z as well known. 2nd "Core Temp" processor for reading.
http://www.alcpu.com:80/CoreTemp/ -no installation required-
(or "PC Wizard" minimized ", Nv. System Monitor - new version)
http://www.cpuid.com/pcwizard.php and
http://www.nvidia.de/object/nvidia_system_tools_6.03_de.html -thanks Hovercraftdriver
(Warranty exclusion for installation !)
Older version without shader adjust with the old system monitor:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/ntune_5.05.54.00.html
This is particularly problematic in dual screen mode with hardware monitor.
Here Taktet the permanent 8800M GTS with 500 MHz (real 540 MHz).-Graphics driver dependent!
Toggles the fan is not included in stage two it is depending on the application, at extremely high temperatures.
Perhaps this behavior is also to blame for the Bios Problemuptates on F.40E. My update to this version, after reboot the system.
But this is just a guess !!!!!!!
How in this forum already explained by others, is F.40E no enrichment.
(I know it or not)

Hello everybody, I come here to have some help about my issue because HP is unable to help me. I decided a week ago to reinstall Vista ultimate(too slow after using it for one year) from the recovery DVD set I receive with the computer. After more than 3 hour the install failed and ask me to start over with no other choice(I tried to install 3 times by myself and one time with HP, total at least 12 hours ). after trying everything with HP, their solution was to pay about $27 to receive a new dvd set because they knew that the one they sent me has a bug. I think it is a shame that I have to pay $27 or $16(delivery in 10 days) to get a replacement for a DVD set because they sent me a defective one. I never used the DVD set before opening its package last week. There is no scratch on it, it is in a perfect shape.
Thank you for your help, any advice is welcome. -
If you still have the D: drive (HP recovery partition), then you can choose that option at boot up and see if it will load that way. I am at work right now so I can not look and see what the key is. If you look at the boot screen it say on the screen witch key to hit. It is most likely (F11 or F10).
-
Perfect, thanks. I'm really anal when it comes to appearance. lol
-
@subsumption
best you can do is clean install of vista. You will have to call MS to activate it.
BTW What type of DVD (-R or +R) have you used to burn recovery discs? -
https://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/email?product=3675225&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&lang=en&cc=us]
In the "Please provide the exact problem description." box, enter the following:
The factory installed OS on my system became corrupted somehow and became unstable and usable. I was instructed to reinstall the Vista OS back to factory condition using the recovery DVD set that HP sent me. The recovery DVD disc set fails during the process of re-installation and does not install the OS back to factory condition. Now I have an unusable computer.
In the "Please provide previous troubleshooting steps, or information that can help HP assist you." box enter the following:
The recovery DVD disk set that HP sent me failed to reinstall the Vista Ultimate that came with my HDX. I reattempted three times to reinstall the OS using the discs HP supplied me with but it fails every time at the same location in the process.
They will get back to you within a few hours. They may offer you the same solution. Just remind them that it was HP that sent you the failed disc set and not ones you burned and they will likely send you another set for free. -
You're welcome. I understand, completely.

Hello all. Im new. Got Currys's/Dixons/Pc worlds (all the same company) last 9450ea in stock.
It was a rip off refurbished model @ £999.99, later reduced to £899.99 (got them to refund the difference!)
Had it for a few days. Realised a problem with the sound. sent it back. they couldnt replace it.
it was beautiful. theres no other words for it. Being able to play gta 4 on a 20" screen. its unreal.
I need another soon. got withdraw symptoms. it has to have the 8800gts though.
PLEASE HELP ME. i would be eternally greatfull and offer my soal in return for information on any models being sold on the net or in the shops. thanks in advance people!
