Well if it does work I know what other device I'm going to be saving for. Wouldn't it need some sort of firmware or something though even if it fit in the HDX?

Ok, thank you very much.

RickiBerlin, I will call HP in the next day or so to see if they are willing to ship me another drive. I hope so, and I hope that is whats causing the problem. In the meantime I am going to run through all of CyberVision's suggestions too.
An update to previous response: (To CyberVision)
Windows Vista Home Premium
product: Hp Pavilion HDX9300
p/n:FE882UA#ABA
hdx9494nr warranty 1 year.
The Drive itself is a:
MATA BD-CMB UJ-120 ATA DEVICE
VIDEO CARD:
NVIDIA Geforce 8800m GTS
Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T8100 @ 2.10 GHz
Unable to decipher event logs, there is just too much info contained in them and I have never dealt with them before so I am not sure what I am looking for.
Problem code value is 00000000.
I am going to use some commercial internet tomorrow to attempt major updates across the entire system. Wish me luck.
Thanks again. -
SOUND PROBLEM:
Hey everyone, who can give me an idea of what's going on is the dude!
(In that special Coen Brothers Big Lebowsky kinda way!)
My Dragon attached to my LG HD TV doesn't transfer sound over HDMI to the HDTV after I update graphic drivers (vista64) -
I have been complaining about this before but I never noticed what I noticed now:
If I switch source on the TV to the digital input and then I go back to the HDMI source I do get sound!!!
Then everything seems to work fine except when I start a full screen application (I tried only with games so far) there is no sound anymore and I have to do that again. Same happens after I go back to windows after a game...
What the hack! It would look like a TV issue except it doesn't do it with the original PC drivers!!! What's going on?
Can I operate any magic to any options in order to avoid changing source back and forth every time I start a game?
Explanations welcome - love yah all! -
first thing - check temps

I don"t think these are too high. Do u know of another driver for the ATI HD 2600 XT , I think that could be the problem. Any help would be much aprreciated.

Try this:
The solution is simple: open drive tray, locate the two lenses and with a lint-free cloth gently tap on them (they are like on a spring with some vertical movement and can attract dust and/or change position; by tapping them gently with the cloth you help reposition them/free them and clean them, as needed). You may also try blowing clean air onto them. Also make sure the tray moves freely in and out and the laptop is put on a proper solid surface with even level all around.
Software:
QuickPlay 3.7 6112 if you are running Vista: http://docs.cyberlink.com/cinema/hp/quickplay/QP_361_upgrade/hp/enu/item3.jsp?Region=N
Or PowerDVD (you can download a free trial: http://www.cyberlink.com/downloads/trials/powerdvd/download_en_US.html ) if you are running Windows 7. In Build 7068 of Windows 7 Microsoft has "blacklisted" QuickPlay as incompatible and is suggesting you don't run the QuickLauch resident programs/service since there is no working QuickPlay. I have however created the attached exes to replace the ones with same name in QuickPlay folder so that the blue buttons now launch PowerDVD instead (from C:\Program Files (x86)\CyberLink\PowerDVD), as I hate having a useless non-functional QuickLaunch DVD button.Attached Files:

Ok, in the event logs, you can not find anything, because Windows no problem with this drive.
(The drive has a problem with itself)
There is no upgrade option for MATA BD-CMB UJ-120 ATA DEVICE firmware.
I know that hope dies last.
Good luck! -
temps seem to be ok. maybe cpu is a little too high at idle.
visit laptopvideo2go website and download the newest driver for gpu.
ps have you scaned your laptop with antyvirus? -
LV2Go only has nVidia drivers.

Once again, thanks 2.0. I managed to get my two internal HDDs to "advanced performance", but I couldn't change any of the settings for the eSATA drive as they are greyed out........
CJ -
You can get 500GB 7200.4 drives for like 30 more bucks. I got me 2 Seagates and they runs sweet.
-
HP Techs confirmed that they should work but we would just need to download and install the firmware updates from their site. I'm going to try to get me one in a few weeks. Has anyone else tried it?
-
Anyone know if this would work in the PCIe slot for the HDX? http://reviews.cnet.com/graphics-cards/sapphire-radeon-hd-4850/4505-8902_7-33421567.html
and or if it would be better than the 8800?
Also would it be possible to switch to using it instead of the 8800 somehow maybe in video settings or GPU settings for NVIDIA? -
I just tapped my Blue Ray Lasers and they fell out sooooo... I figured while they are out I would bleach them to make sure they are really clean. I put them back in upside down and they cracked a little. But now everything works,it even reads HD-DVDs and burns Blue Ray!!!!!!!
-
I leave it to the scientists and PhD hardware engineers here who think that a firmware could have solved problems with Sony's BD-ROM drives in the HDX, while all the firmware updates (that are not available for the HP-installed drives) are about BD-Java and BD-Live (all to do with extra interactivity) and not about simple basic Blu-Ray playback like watching a standard HD movie. Anyway, there are two lenses and for some reason in many of the early BD-ROM drives, the Blu-Ray lens/function of the drive starts suffering after a few months and the method I described has been tried and found successful by many users. The trick to diagnose the problem is when the player can play some discs and not others like being able to play/read standard DVDs but not Blu-Ray discs.
-
LOL! You so crazy. That one is desktop PCIe. Notebooks have what's called a mini-PCIe slot. The card in the picture is about 9" long. Could be a bit longer and is about 5 to 7" wide.
Which brings up an important issue. I think HP whitelisted what can and cannot go into the mini-PCIe slots in the HDX. For instance, can't install and wifi card except the ones in the BIOS's "secret" whitelist - i.e., the one's offered with the HDX. -
When you reboot, is adavanced and write cache still enabled on the other drives?
Also, device manager/ storage controllers/ Silicon image SATA controller - click the device info tab. Does it say that look ahead and write cache are enabled?
Issue here might be because the Western Digital drive is a desktop drive and might not allow for write caching via eSATA. There are also some issues I recall with the green series WD Terabyte drives. Google your model number for specifics as I don't remember precisely. Something to do with it's power saving feature affecting performance or drive life? -
Oops my bad..haha I thought it looked humongous..and the kind for a desktop, but I don't know much about them. I just typed in Mobile PCIe and posted the first one I found
Didn't even look at the specs. My bad. Is there a way to find out which GPUs are whitelisted for it?
-
Yes, the rule is, whatever HP offered during the system's lifetime is compatible.
That applies to MXM and mini-PCI/e. Bear in mind, there's no such thing as a mini-PCI/e graphics card. Just MXM for notebooks. The HDX's graphics, though MXM, is not upgradeable. And as for the mini-PCI/e, any type of communications device will be whitelisted in the BIOS. You can find a general guide as to what is in the whitelist by looking at all the available options offered.
Can anything else be installed in the spare mini-PCI/e in the HDX? If it's not a communication device, it might be possible. You now, like a mini-PCI/e SSD (which would be significantly slower than a SATA SSD). Only one way to find out.
But I'll assume it would work since it is possible to install a Robson Readyboost mini-PCI/e card in the HDX. -
Face palm!! That's just wrong, ROFL!!
Hey man, your solution worked for me a while back, so I ain't knockin' it. Just playfully suggesting that our resident rocket scientist might give you flak about it, as he has in the past.
-
Hmm. HP said that it was only designed for video cards. So would that apply in terms of what the Robson Turbo Boost would be?
-
No Robson is flash memory. HP told you wrong about Mini-PCI. MXM which is a PCIe (not mini) interface for notebooks, is for video cards.
-
Have you got any experience with HP service in UK?
I am going to send them my laptop (bacause of LCD defect). -
Are the firmware updates for the UJ-210/220 available on HP's website?
-
Hello, here I am again.
Today I've cleaned my fans and I was shocked how many dust there already was in there.
Welly, my idle temperaturs went down with 5°C which is nice I think.
Grtz -
Ok Update number 7,604.
I spoke with an HP Tech monkey today who generally sounded very competent and willing to help.
I asked that they send me a new Blu-Ray drive and he said OK no problem. So in a week or two (it's gotta make it all the way to Iraq) I will hopefully be watching Blu-Ray movies. Which is fantastic because Babylon A.D. is calling my name.
Wish me luck and thanks for the help.
(i'll be back, this is not the last you have seen of me) -
Not sure, doubt it, but they should be available at the manufacturers site.
I just found a newer one thats slot loaded: http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Panasonic-Slot-BluRay-Blu-Ray-Burner-UJ225-UJ-225_W0QQitemZ250395976850QQcmdZViewItemQQptZPCC_Drives_Storage_Internal?hash=item250395976850&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1234|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318|301%3A0|293%3A1|294%3A50
EDIT: This one is only 1x, where as the UJ-220 is 2x.
But I'm thinking perhaps a site like this, a forum more so, may help?
http://forum.rpc1.org/viewtopic.php?p=211417
Or perhaps someone with a new HDX18 can rip some drivers that may possibly work in the HDX Dragon? Or perhaps just using PowerDVD or something may help?
EDIT: These were the directions were a mix of my intuitions and directions from an HP tech, which I think make sense (anyone feel free to correct this):
1) Find out which brand is in the HDX18 by looking at device manager
2) Buy that brand but one that fits the HDX 20 inch Dragon (one perhaps like the size of the UJ-220)
3) Plug it in if the drivers don't load automatically try to get the SW folder from someone with the newest HDX18
4) Do a driver search for the drivers in that folder that you put on your HDX20 inch Dragon
5) Worst comes to worse and nothing works just get an enclosure.
The PART NUMBER for the one in the HDX18 (perhaps the Blu-Ray ROM only) is 503489-001 - Model Number- BC-5500S so maybe the newest one is a varient of those numbers, at least in regards to the Model number.
I'm just trying to figure out which one is in there..
EDIT:
http://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=26498
The guy w_tanoto seems to have gotten the slower Blu-Ray Burner 210 working saying it recognizes it and it works automatically! -
Uh.. guys... need a bit of help (I hope this issue wasn't tackled before already or something)
I just noticed that my dragon's function keys don't work anymore... couldn't get the brightness down.
Then... after rebooting, it's still pretty speedy getting to the desktop, but once it gets there... the system isn't responsive at all and even trying to open a folder with my mouse will result to a loooong pause before the system starts responding.
I now just leave the computer alone for about 2-3 mins after booting up.
Is this some known bug or is it just mine? I don't know what could have caused it. Virus? Some windows update thingy?
Sorry I can't be of much help since I can't really recall what I did prior to experiencing this behavior. But any advice would be appreciated.
(well.. when Win7 officially comes out with 100% support for the dragon, I'm putting in an SSD and gonna start from scratch) -
You try powering down, taking out the battery holding down the power button for 30 seconds, then putting the battery back in, and powering back up? Don't know if it would fix it but it's worth a try?? That usually fixes the QuickTouch buttons when they go non responsive. I've noticed my system started doing a little stalling in 32 Vista after I installed SP1..but its not that big of a deal..seems more like it gives the illusion its stalling a little bit because the icon for WIFI sometimes doesn't light up for a while but I can still get online..click My Computer and it comes up even though half of the start up icons haven't popped up for a bit etc.. I used to have a 30-40 second boot up time, but now its around 50-60 seconds..not really a big deal to me..but wasn't there supposed to be a virus going around on April Fools?

Hey 2.0
You are using the 182.06 graphic driver according to a post a few pages back... Do you have any Blu_Ray problem with that? Since I installed it the drive doesn't see BDs anymore (no disk in drive kind of issue) by rolling back to the usual original driver everything works again.
Also by installing these latest graphic drivers, when connected to my LG flat screen I can only get sound in full screen applications by changing source and then going back to the HDMI source... like if something needed to be reset for the TV and the PC to communicate... weird... -
Thanks for the help 2.0
No
Yes
My drive is a WD Caviar Green / GP (wd10eacs-00d6b1). I googled it but didn't find any definitive info on power saving or write caching.
This page had a lot of info on it I didn't fully understand.
Cheers,

Device Manager, View, Show hidden devices, non-PnP drivers, "eabfiltr" double click.
Under Driver tab verify that the service is started!
If not, start!
Startup Type: System
This filter is named after a Windows Update also the QLB's part and this can cause problems.
Perhaps fixes the start but their current problem with the function keys.
Good luck!
Your other problems can have many causes. -
Was always assumed you use Nvidia original drivers.
(167.53 or 179.28 or 179.48)
Otherwise, see post "Black Knight" on this page!
However, in this treat adequately treated. (BlueRay will not run with LVtoGo drivers without editing) -
I don't have Blu-ray but know that it won't work with Blu-ray. I only use the HDX for gaming, browsing and work. How did the official Nvidia drivers work out? 178.28 and 178.48?
-
Ok, since they're not remaining checked after reboot it's a driver issue. So we have to start
from scratch: (make sure the eSATA drive is not onnected when you do this.)
1. Reinstall Intel Matrix Storage driver, sp38088. Reboot.
2. Install Intel chipset driver, sp3688. reboot.
3. Click on 82801 HEM/HBM SATA AHCI contoller
Click on uninstall & check delete box, then ok. Reboot.
4. Check to see that you have (under ATA/ATAPI controllers):
ATA chan 0,
ATA Chan 0,
ATA chan 1,
ATA chan 1,
ATA Chan 2,
ICH8M SATA AHCI Controller - 2829
ICH8M Ultra ATA Storage Controller - 2850
If you don't have all as listed, reinstall the chipset driver. Possible it doesn't take on the first install. -
Hi Everyone. Just got my G.Skill 2 x 4 GB memory installed. Thanks to Dominick and his Australian friend for hooking me up with it. Compared to the X9000 install this was a cake walk took me less than 5 min to complete with instant gratification.
One thing to note though: My WEI score went from a 5.9 to a 5.0 for memory. But this as most people know is completely inaccurate. I made sure to do a few Benchmarks with the original memory before removing it. In every benchmark the G.Skill mem did better in every category, especially large files. Here is one of them. In the pic the top one is a base line I took right before I added the G.Skill memory:
The install process was very easy just 2 screws, pop out the old mem, and add in the new so I did not do a detailed install. I did take some pics for those who like to see to believe

Hey Everyone,
I've been looking for a while for something to haul my HDX around in, I discovered this discontinued Puma messenger bag and I found it works out great. The parameter fits the HDX perfectly. I suggest retrofitting with additional padding or sewn in velcro straps to secure the HDX. Here are the dimensions to compare.
Inside Dimensions for main compartment
6"H 16"D 19"W
HDX Laptop
2.3"H X 13.4"D X 18.7"

(sorry double post ooops)
-
178.48 Is alright (the other I didn't try) - I have like the impression that it heats up a bit - I HWmonitor said 65 degrees after playing Heroes of M&M5 - with the original driver I believe I never really went beyond 60.
-
Thanks 2.0.
At step 4 I am seeing this........
Even after I re-install the chipset driver and re-boot it remains the same.
CJ -
Reinstall just the Intel Matrix storage manager now. Reboot.
82801 HEM/HBM SATA AHCI contoller will come up again. Uninstall and check delete. And the IDE channels should change into ATA channels 0 & 1 after reboot.
It's tricky to get them to come up. But without them your system HDD speeds will be crippled. -
Yeah, that happens with that driver. 179.28 runs cooler.
From Nvidia's site (179.28 Vista x64): http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce_notebook_winvista64_179.28_beta.html -
Cheers "two". I finally got all the ATA channels up by individually uninstalling the IDE channels and re-booting.
Now I can enable write caching and advanced performance on my internal HDDs. However, those two options are still greyed out on my eSATA drive and I'm still only getting a maximum of 50MB/s transfer speed.
Any more pointers?
TIA
CJ -
Good news! It's been a long while since I had to configure that whole mess.
One thing to check:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\msahci\
set the "Start" key to "0" if it's other than.
Otherwise, I don't know why it's greyed out. Might have to do with the fact that it's a desktop drive. Could be the enclosure. Is it a RAID capable enclosure? -
Hey... just want to say THANKS to Dominick 7 and RickiBerlin for their tips.
I'll try those (Dominick's if my quickplays don't work and Ricki's for the f keys) -
Thx 2.0. The Start key was already 0.
Don't know how to find out if the enclosure is RAID capable. Can't find anything online, or on the enclosure itself.
