My Cyberlink YouCam gets message:
Cannot connect to this viedo device (USB Video Device). Please select another capture device via settings or close any other application that may be using this video device.
I don't have any other video device, only the webcam in my new 6 month old HP HDX 18 Vista 64bit HDX computer. HP wants me to do a complete restore. I don't want to do that.
If you have any inkling, please try to help me find a resolution. Everything else works fine. I have scanned, no virus or worm.
Thanks for any help you can offer![]()

Hey 2.0 long time lurker, finally registered.
Just checked this site and apparently they have both types.
http://web.eurocom.com/ec/ecu_pricelist(2,0)
I'm currently working for a hardware reseller who'd be able to supply me with these.
Really up for it, any updated news on someone succesfully doing this yet without blurred screens and such?
also, what we sayin on Mobility Radeon 4860? with it's 40nm goodness? or the 4870?
EDIT: Holy bajesus , Just saw all the effort it was to even get the thing in there!
Any updates since you tried though?
gonna be trying a different card any time soon?
man I wanna upgrade, you just know next years games are gonna pwn the 8800
-
Upgrade mission is dead in the water. Nothing worthwhile will work. Too many issues prevent it from working. The MXM III card that is in the HDX is a proprietary custom made card for the HDX. Electrical and physical characteristics are non-standard.
As for games coming out next year, if you have the 8800M and WSXGA+ (1680x1050), and are overclocked, you'll be ok at that native resolution. Likely will have to drop Anisotropic to zero and perhaps scale back AA.
I recently got the latest Wolfenstien and it runs like butter with max details and options on WSXGA+. And I'm sure COD MW2, Left4Dead2 will run well also. -
I noticed that when I over clock to the settings at 655 or 660 video streaming is quite smooth, but some odd things happen, like Gmail IMs window goes wacky where I have to close the window and reopen it other wise I can't type in it normally..things go backwards or something.. I'm still experimenting.. -
And if you have WUXGA, you can always select a lower/WSXGA resolution (if needed). Depending on the game, your edges might even look smoother and nicer this way, without the need for the computationally-expensive AA. That's what I found running The Sims Life Stories.
-
heh someone else who says runs like butter
-
EDIT: nevermind did it.

gave up on trying to take this thing apart, felt too much like i was gonna break something when trying to take pieces ouit.
i got as far as getting the rear cover off. i started trying to get the keyboard off but felt like i was breaking it, had taken all the screws out but felt like i was gonna snap it if i pulled it any more
wanted to get the fans out so i could clean the insides of the vents
edit: Damnit, I've put it back together and now the bottom left corner of the keyboard wont sit flush like the rest of it, it just click back up when you push it down
Someone help me sort it
The keyboard felt like it was stuck down, which is pretty friggin annoyin to be trying to peel it off after you've unscrewed it.
-
Check that the keyboard tabs and screws are in. Also, you may need to remove the keyboard again and gently bend the keyboard. Besides screws, the keyboard is also held in place by double sided "sticky" tape.
But whatever you do, use the service manual as your guide. It has detailed instructions for disassembly. See page 100, black knight's post for a link to the PDF version of the manual. -
did exactly as the manual said, the sticky tape is hardcore, it was tryin to peel it off that that ended up with it bent i think, so i dunno if i wanna try and peel it off again in fear of bending it more :/
Quite irritating that I have to tear it to pieces to get at a piece I can see by simply taking off the rear cover.
I just wanna get at this bit
Might just settle for air canning and vaccuming it without taking it out.
Hope I can sort this keyboard though as it kinda devalues it lookin like it does now

Hi everyone! I have been reading these forms for a while and have to say thanks to all of you for the great advice and walkthroughs. I will probably take the plunge to Windows 7 next summer and it is great to know that someone has already figured out how to keep everything that came with the computer working!
Two questions:
1.) Anyone know of a good external battery that is confirmed to be compatible with this laptop?
2.) Anyone know where to find one of those awesome alienware bags that it fits in?
I have the 20.1 inch HDX9494nr if you didn't guess, and the HP rollercase which I could definitely upgrade.
Thanks! -
Speaking of battery, i swear mine used to last about 1 hour 45.
now it's about 35 mins
thought it took longer than I've had it for em to go downhill
-
For this beast, I never saw the battery as anything more than a "built-in UPS". Certainly nothing like the battery in my Toshiba laptop (I get ~2.5 hours with that) or my HP netbook (~5.5 hours).
Dragon gets ~45 minutes. Excellent time for a UPS! -
-
Battery should be completely drained every once in a while and then fully recharged. Also you may want to check if the settings in the power options (control panel) have been changed. -
By the way
I've been having issues with audio over HDMI in Windows 7 for quite some time.
I think I narrowed it down to the graphics driver, for the 8800, for quite some time the HDMI connection would show up as DVI in the nvidia control panel.
It would be dependant on the driver you used. to get it to work in 7 I'd have to use real old drivers. (ones from laptop video 2go)
Now, I currently have the most recent Nvidia drivers from the nvidia site.
The connector shows up as HDMI as it should, but still no sound over HDMI.
before anyone asks yes i have the output set to the digital audio setting in playback devices
For quite some time I've been having to switch to my Vista partition to watch Movies and such with audio over HDMI as I've let it have the most up to date driver possible to still have the feature.
It cant be a sound driver issue because I have the same driver for both (6.10.5607.0)
any thoughts? -
I actually do this every couple of months or so. The times are indeed accurate. I actually do this with all my battery-powered stuff. Especially my ham radio gear.
Interesting -- I was installing Windows 7 on my netbook (HP Mini 110-1025DX). My battery time is now about 7.5 hours. -
edit...
nevermind... helps if I actually READ the post I'm responding to...
ignore this. -
I thought the mini 110's only came with a 3 cell battery?
-
They do. However, you can purchase a 6-cell battery separately.

Hrm, they're on sale at Home Plus right now, I might get one then.
-
Dear fellow HDXers!
Probably someone knows how to set in NVIDIA Control Panel the option "Digital Vibrance" so that it would not add 100% upon each start-up (I have to always manually restore Defaults, otherwise the desktop picture has eye-gnawing color intensity).
Thanks in advance! -
Which driver are you running?
-
I am hoping folks on this forum may be able to help with a recent development with my HP Dragon.
In the past week or so, I have noticed that when I enter text into a word document using Windows Speech Recognition, occasionally, a part of the screen goes black. For example when I enter particular sentence, the area on the screen containing that sentence appears completely black, whereas the areas of text above and below remain as they should.
I have not installed any new software, although I think MS Office may have installed SP2 during that time frame.
I have no idea where to even start to solve this problem. Do I need to reinstall Microsoft word 2007? Any ideas? Great forum, and I'm also enjoying the Tablet PC forum as well. Cheers -
Funny you mention this particular issue. I have the same problem, however, I do not use WSR, nor do I have (or ever have had) any version of MS Office installed. I *DO* get this "blacked out text" on a couple of websites I visit that has a smaller font of a direct download link. I can highlight everything and SOMEtimes see it (not all the time) and the links are still clickable -- even though I can't see them.
I just attributed this to a forum that is ungodly large with a user base of well over 1 million.
The other website I visit that sometimes has this happen is QRZ.com (ham radio site).
I've never really given this issue much thought until you mentioned it -- but then again, I'm not using (or ever used) WSR nor MSO.
This doesn't happen on my desktop, Toshiba laptop, or HP Mini netbook -- just the Dragon. I couldn't even begin to tell you where to start with this. Just letting you know you're not the only one experiencing it. -
Er... 6.14.11.7798 as of 24.08.2008.
Running under XP SP3.
I am fossil?

yes you are exactly 1 year behind on those drivers. -
Thanks, I was not just sure whether local community guys like famous 2.0 have approved this release...
That' what I feared... and while we are at it, could you possibly comment on this excerpt from release notes:
" Note: It is highly recommended that you follow the steps in this section to completely uninstall the NVIDIA Display Driver software before updating to a new version of the software."
Is it really THAT important? Because in this case I will not be able to use "Rollback Driver" feature should something go wrong.
-
Mine is new to me (a refurb), purchased about 2 months ago. I tested the battery life on power conservation mode with light web browsing and got about 3 hours I think. I was pretty excited about this....sounds like my joy will be short lived, huh!
-
i am most certain that it's approved by 2.0 and the rest. there are far too many improvements to not upgrade. it is not like the bios update, which is probably what you are thinking of.
i believe there will be a default driver for graphics card, even if it is generic. i will bet on that. i just installed over mine, but you can uninstall and reboot, then install new ones. i've done that before. this definitely made an improvement in 3dmark06 score and framerate on some games. although graphics card driver updates provides important updates besides for gameplay. trust me, upgrade. -
Actually disinstalling the previous driver 'should' not be necessary when one uses only official drivers like the ones you are talking about. On the other hand occasionally I have incurred in some troubles while trying to do that with 'customized' non official drivers. Anyway VISTA 64 has a great "system restore" utility, which I have used several times after getting a virus or problems like those.

Yesssssssss!!! Everything works smoothly!!!
Thank you ladies and gents! I owe you one!!! -
HDX 20 notebook announced starting at $2,999:

You had me excited that HP was announcing a new 20" HDX!
Curious why you are linking to a 2+ year old web article? -
LMAO!
-
I suppose it's the thread's anniversary. To take a walk down memory lane...
-
The first post is dated 09-14-07...what am I missing?
-
Ok, not funny!!!
I had gotten my hopes up, was about to start planning on buying a new Dragon.
Now I'm all sad.
-
For just a moment, I thought, maybe...
Well, good for a laugh and some nostalgia. -
*shake fist*
-
I'm wondering if the new WD 1TB drives will fit. They're 12.5mm, but there's easily 3mm extra room in there if you remove the bracket.
-
So I have the Mata Bluray CMB UJ-120 optical drive in my laptop. It for some reason will read certain DVD/CDs fine, usually the Rs or RWs. But most retail media I put in it will not read, anyone else seen this problem and aware of a fix for it?
-
I am now selling my HDX from the signature adding 5.1 headphones from Zalman, Targus XXL bag, sleeve with carry handle.
I am located in the UK and if anyone is interested let me know. -
Grrr.....
-
Time to get a 25.5" touch screen
-
You need to very gently slightly raise the lenses compartment. A non-sharp wooden or plastic toothpick or similar can help you slightly raise the lenses assembly (by pushing from underneath it). It is mounted on a soft spring that allows a range of vertical movement.
-
Where do you see these at?
-
Recomendations on going to 8GB of RAM? Often have (need) 8-10 graphing applications open at once and am using about 85% of memory (if numbers are accurate) but I can tell the machine is a bit slower and stickier. What are your experiences and would you do it again for $300? Any recomendations as to type or brand? Would Readyboost do anything at all? Thanks Gang, you people are the best... Have Hdx9300 , Vista Premium x64, 4 gigs RAM, two 320 (7200) hd. Thanks....David
-
It's the new WD10TEVT. They'll be in retail channels soon, but the downside is the 12.5mm height. I think they'll still fit though.
Might buy one and move a 5K500 into my mini 110. -
One worry might be that the SATA connector is at a different height. So while the drive might fit phsycially w/o a caddy, the connector might not mate due to differences in height of HDX SATA connector and drive connector.
-
Well... you may or you may not believe in whatever superficial powers of the Drago/
Today my Quick Touch stopped working all of a sudden.
While I never dared to touch anything, least of all - removing original software, I was immediately inclined to blame the new NVIDIA driver.
I thought I read in this thread that Quick Touch does not operate well under XP (specifically that subwoofer is anyway unavailable under XP, which left only sound on/off button and Volume sensor stripe).
Prior to posting next stupid question, I launched the search for Quick Touch and came up with a couple of pages of links, one of which addressed me to the sacred 100th page. The moment I jumped to the 100th, my Quick Touch buttons started to operate again.
A miracle, indeed. Or is there some F.U.С.К. (Frequently Upbrought Common Knowledge) on the QT issue that I missed?
