Hi,
You can simply ignore (or delete if it is in your mailbox) what you don't like--that's more efficient than spending time responding, etc.
LV2GO has the same link today on their homepage:
http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/
-
I don't have a problem responding, and your analysis of efficiency is not accurate. If I were to go into a thorough exposition as to why it's not accurate, THEN I feel I would be wasting my time/being inefficient.
That said, grow some and take it like a man. I am correct in that you should have put it in some context (any context would be an attempt even).
Clearly you are projecting efficiency as one of your mainstay, which in my opinion, to you efficiency=laziness, hence your post with 0 context earlier. You want some more?
I was having and still am having a great day, despite killing a whole hour on this, when I could have (via you being not lazy...err...sorry...inefficient) prevented this.
I take responsibility for trying, no one can accuse you of this.
I in fact was telling you to put it in context next time, and that you should have before. Big deal...truth hurts? Let's all play nice. Take some advice, I don't think I am the only one here that believes you shouldn't post links without any context, particularly direct links.
Have a kindhearted day.
-
thanks for your advice. much respected but we should also agree to disagree
you may also wish ask lv2go to update their 'context': http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/topic/25338-new-idtsigmatel-hd-audio-drivers-6232-hp/ -
I said it before a few times that posting direct links to executables is not only bad form but actually against forum rules.
If one wants to PM direct links, that is fine. As that amounts to a trust between posters.
What LV2GO does is their business. Their clientele is mostly advanced PC tweakers and enthusiasts who are willing to take risks with their systems and are used to downtime due to experimentation. -
So what you do is to link to this forum thread instead of posting a direct link to the executable file.
-
Not a biggie cause you don't get any more useful info, e.g.:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...ob-75352-1&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&os=4063
The main thing I look for is from where the file originates. Seeing hp.com in the ftp link is what reassures me. Then I scan the driver's inf to see if my specific hardware is listed: DEV_7627&SUBSYS_30D4103C before attempting to install it. -
You get a wealth more info than posting just the link to the executable.
You get:
IDT ID92HD71B7
File size of 26.08MB
Release date
HP file version of 1.00C
Might not mean much to you, but will/might mean something to others.
Seeing where it actually comes from with description reassures for others. Just keep in mind that it's a community and if you contribute to the community you have a responsibility to protect the community. Sure they should do their due diligence, but at the same time the poster of information should be courteous and responsible enough to aid them in doing their due diligence. -
As 2.0 said, bad form at the least...undesired consequences and the resulting indirect effects at the worst. You stated, KindHearted, that it doesn't change anything to post links the the web page, then why not do so? This does not seem to work for the HDX, and as stated before only 1 or 2 drivers actually work.
2.0, ya I grew up around firearms, hunting family, and then eventually competed in matches when I was very young (not that I'm old now). Once you get into it, you get into it. Suffice it to say my whole family (less my mom) is pro gun and then some. Not gun freaks in a lunatic kind of way, but very responsible and capable, including myself. I'd post a youtube link to me shooting, but too many weirdos here for my taste (those of you know who you are).
-
Same here. Been shooting for years and have built up a nice collection of firearms. Just recently built a custom Remi 700 that shoots sub MOA out to 200 yrds. Ranges out here don't go past 200yrds. Would have to go upstate for that.
Anyway, not to derail. Just wanted to give a nod to a fellow gun owner. -
I'm just going to put fire ants in a little farm inside my HDX, that way when they try to hack it they'll be released and I'll be able to watch it remotely via webcam while I pet my kitty cat and laugh evily. -
Sweet thanks.
-
Was this caused by the BIOS password change? To my knowledge DigitalPersona still hasn't come up with an update to use in the newest Firefox so I've in a sense been without the reader and have really not been liking it.. SO nice to just swipe ones finger to log into stuff.
-
I had the same thing happen...no idea why either.
-
For Windows 7 I believe I heard that the index goes higher than in Vista so the scale will be different.
-
Still don't get your point. All this info and more is displayed when you first run the softpaq .exe, then you can simply click 'Cancel' and abort everything without making any change to your system, if you want so.
-
It would be appreciated if you would fall in line and be considerate to the forum owners and community. There are many obvious and apparently not so obvious reasons why one should not post a direct link to an executable file.
-
Read post #6803. It's the fix for Windows 7 (I have 64 bit) and it might work for your Vista 64. Again, send thanks to Eclypse3D if it works as it drove me nuts until he gave me the fix.
-
Well site moderators are permitting it elsewhere on the same board--for example, this page which posts direct softpaq .exe links (regularly edited and updated):
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=404164 -
Indeed, but notice the protocol followed in the post as compared to yours. There is a right way and a wrong way. That's why it's considered bad form and and against the rules to simply post a link to an executable with no supplementary text to sufficiently describe what it is, where it comes from, and to properly warn users.
I can find posts where the rules have been violated, but that doesn't make it RIGHT for you to do it. That's sort of like saying, "well everybody is doing it, so what's the harm?"
As great as the mods are here, they can't catch every single violation or things that might harm users. That's why if we care about one another, and we should as a community, we should exercise self-policing and practice concern for fellow users.
How would I have posted it?
I would have linked to HP's page that shows the pertinent info. I would also warn that it only works on some HDX's but that the majority of HDX's it won't work on. I would post D/L size (or relative size) and driver version number. This way, users can decide if it's worth their bandwidth, time and frustration to D/L. Installing and uninstalling drivers can lead to OS corruption. I care about the HDX community and users. Not just the one's that come here regularly, but those who find this thread by googling their issue. Right, it takes a little extra typing. But I know I sure appreciate when someone does just a little bit more effort to save me time and energy that I might devote to an experiment. -
I like your eloquent reply.
-
Good to know I'm not alone here on the board. A girl's gotta take care of herself. Yes I carry everywhere legally possible.
-
No not at all. It hasn't been working since months ago when I tried to uninstall it and reinstall it for whatever reason. I cannot remember the details. It's about time for a system recovery anyway, at which time should work again.
Note that BIOS will protect someone from doing as mentioned...controlling boot order, etc. and ability to run software and do many things with that.
Whole disk encryption, on the other hand, will protect it if someone actually pulls the drive and tries to grab info off of it. Since my friend lost his laptop at the airport (he had a lot of important info on it), I looked into it.
Truecrypt (as I believed I made a mention of a long time ago, in a query here on this board) is a free and respected solution. Look into it. Google is your friend as they say.
Perhaps others will comment on this software here that use/have used it.
THAT would be yet another and probably just as important layer of security protecting your information, and if you think you don't have any information that someone can use on your computer as at least a stepping stone to more information, then you haven't cracked the seal of your computer box.
-
Yes it was, as always. He's good at it...you should try it sometime
-
You too should try it sometimes. Being eloquent is one thing, being sensitive is another; combining the two is quiet rare...
-
And grammar police issued a warrant for your arrest.
but i really don't care about that.
Rare? I'll leave that for steaks and venison...tasty.
I'm a woman, sensitivity is in my nature, i have to work on being direct...eloquence and directness are rare for me
have a
quite sleep.

How long will your password stand up -
Regarding notebook security, your avenue of defense depends on what you are trying to accomplish.
If you don't want anyone to be able to use your computer when stolen (the equivalent of some car stereos to (electronically) not work when stolen or if the faceplace was removed), then BIOS/BOOT passwords are your option.
If, on the other hand, data security is your thing, then only an encrypted drive will keep you safe. It's way too easy to just pop your drive out of a stolen laptop and connect it to a working computer and gain access to files, etc.
Drives with built-in (on-the-fly) data encryption are available. Not sure how much of a performance hit you see though, compared to a standard drive of the same capacity and rotation speed.
Personally, I don't mind if a thief gains access to my collection of p0rn videos.
-
What makes you say that??
-
our hdx has a tpm and windows bitlocker works great on the standard hp-installed hard drives in this machine
-
Is it the DigitalPersona driver version 4.11.3805 that just came out? Seems to work with Firefox ok, but not with the IE tab add on within Firefox.
-
try Wacom Bamboo Pen + Touch

http://www.computeractive.co.uk/computeractive/video/2250220/wacom-bamboo-pen-touch
not a tx2/tm2 experience, but the multitouch really works -
i'm sure but it's not open code, so who knows...in the hands of those that know...backdoor.
-
all true, yes. they are all good layered together.
well p0rn would not be on my list, but if you have personal information (phone numbers/addresses/financials/medical) stored there, I wouldn't think you want it compromised, as that can lead to identity theft, among other things. -
-
Just curious what you have added to this HDX9494nr that makes it worth $1900? These units, refurbished from HP and in MINT, NEW condition, were selling for under $1000. (I should know, my HDX is also a HDX9494nr and I paid less than $900).
-
I was wondering the same thing. While i paid a little more for mine than Lancorp did, I didn't hit the 1100 mark. I only see $240 worth of extras (and since when are recovery DVDs worth $50. The ones for the Dragon, model HDX9494nr are $18 after shipping). Maybe my math is a little off. I dunno.
I'm not saying you won't find anyone that will pay the $1899,99 you are asking for, but I think it's safe to say you probably wont find them in the Dragon Lounge. Besides the fact that there are cheaper auctions on ebay for that same model (I check all the time), most of us still have ours, and even if we didn't, we aren't gonna pay $1900 for a machine that when it was last sold brand new in the stores went for less than that (as of 1 year ago this week, Newegg had it listed @ $1599.99 before going out of stock).
Good Luck. -
Yes, but there's a bit of Jedi mind trick at work. You set the buy now $1899 so the starting bid of $1000 makes it look like a steal...
4 days to go. -
Well, apparently, young Padawan has much to learn about the ways of the Force. Not one single bid. Methinks he left the temple a little too early lol.
-
Oh my sorry for the late update, I have been caught up at work, anyway after digging around my driver folders from all the drivers I grabbed, I was not able to locate the one you guys are referring to (the one removed from hp's site) the only archive I have is the one that worked for me sp38171
I thought I had saved that previous version but it appears that if I dont have it now is cause it didnt work so I tossed it. -
I'd put mine on ebay for 1900 and maybe would get it, but like others here I added an x9000 cpu, more ram and a second hdd. =) Even if you couldnt get a 900 dollar mint hp refurb anymore and I saw one of these stock with 8800gts for 1900 I think its worth the money cause of the size, format, and utility of this unit. The mentality though is I can get one for X dollars so thats what it should be auctioned for sometimes forgets an items actual worth as opposed to market value and ease of obtaining one. When the market is dry and there are no other similar units available price goes up etc etc..
=) -
There is some truth to that, too! Who knows.?
There are some other HDX Dragons on ebay for far less as a BIN, but also another with LESS than the HDX9494nr and selling for $1899! ATI video and a lowly T7500 for $1899?
I guess if you have to have one now, and you got the cash, then why not! -

I agree..if there are people willing to pay that much, then go for it. If it doesn't sell, just lower the price some. The less units are around the higher the price will go. I think it's about timing and demand. If you check out the pricing on google and or yahoo those who were pointing this out will probably pass out from shock. -
It wouldn't surprise me...I've seen Amazon Marketplace sellers with HDX 20's at exorbitant prices, etc. That doesn't mean anyone is going to buy one at that price.
The point of my original question was that the sale was posted here, in a forum full of HDX Dragon experts who know what one is worth, and where to find one at a decent price, if one wants it. Seemed odd, that's all. I was hoping to inform the seller that if he/she was serious about selling it, that their price might be too high. -
You have a point. Demand would drive the price up if supply is non-existant. But with a good 4 other auctions out there with better pricing, he should have at least researched it more.
And yeah I also agree that posting the auction in here was not the best move. While a lot of us paid that much or more for our Dragons, that was like at year or 2 ago when that was the new price, not the used price. If anyone would know better about a good price for The Dragon, we would in here. -
I upgraded from WSXGA+ to WUXGA because i wanted to have the 1920x1200 screen resolution. I'm not a gamer, so there is no problem with graphical performance limitation.
The replacement is very easy: i followed the HP instructions found in service manual (PDF available online on their website) and simply replaced the old LCD by the new one. It takes about 1h if you're slow.
EDIT: the 1920x1200 screen is for me great. I don't have noticed any quality difference between the two screens, although other people are saying that the 1680x1050 LG/Philips lcd panel is better than the 1920x1200 Chimei one. I simply love my new lcd screen and will never go back to the 1680x1050 one now
-
I fully agree, WUXGA rocks and justifies and also is justified by the 20" screen size! You don't need (or go) 20" for WSXGA+, especially in what is supposed to be a notebook model.
-
Coolbeans. 1 hour you say? Have you ever opened up an HDX before, or other notebooks in this manner? From what I understand the color saturation is like 92% on the Chimei via it's florescent bulb, contrasted with 72% for the SXGA. I find it to be gorgeous as have many others. Do you want the resolution for pics, or movies or..? I was thinking about getting an SXGA and UXGA screen backups in case anything happens. 1 hr doesn't sound bad at all.
-
Yea $2500 seemed to be the sweet spot for some sellers pricing of the HDX, I think even with minimal specs. I hear what you're saying.
-
With a 2.8GHZ x9000 AND 8800 in it it would easily get $1800-$1900 if not more. One of the last one's we saw sold I think for $2300-3000 or something crazy to that effect..but it was cto'd and barely used. I have seen them typically sold around 1800-1900 range.
