I was just looking at 3.5" regular Blu-ray burners and for around $190 you can nab yourself one. How difficult would it be to connect the Blu-ray's SATA to the HDX's external eSATA? Or to make your own external enclosure?

If that was the first thing you did, then that’s probably why you scored so low. :p

This is a lounge, so where are the chips?

Hi, just to start off, I absolutely love this computer, but I am having a few problems, I hope you can help me out :)

    1) How can I change the focus on the webcam? I go into it's settings and the focus slider is disabled. I have also tried running the applications that allow me to get to the settings (eg, AmCap or YouCam) in "Run as Administrator" mode - no luck.

    2) The button to disable the trackpad and left/right buttons does exactly that, but for some reason it does the same function as F12 at the same time, so for example, in word it will bring up the print dialogue box when I try to disable my track pad. This I BELIEVE started happening after I installed the Microsoft Wireless Laser Desktop 6000 (came with v2 of the keyboard and v1 of the mouse)

3)When I use the keyboard on the laptop or on my external keyboard to turn up the volume/bass/treble the application appears on the screen showing me the levels of the volume/bass/treble - this I believe is an HP application. Now the problem is, is that every time I turn up a volume (eg, if I hold the volume + button in for 5 seconds, it may turn up 10/15 notches, but every time it goes up one, it opens a new black box telling me the volume - this means that the box stays up on the screen, on top of other apps, disabling my usage of that app (it freezes them) or 10/15 multiplied by 10 seconds = it takes forever to get back to what I was doing. This is really annoying and happened before the wireless keyboard and mouse were installed.

Please help if you can, I just want this computer to be perfect, not absolutely amazing - if I get those three things fixed it will be 100% working.
Note: only #2 and #3 problems started after I got the computer, they were not problems to begin with - I haven't installed anything dangerous, only a few chat apps, firefox, MS office '07, a couple of games, Nod32, audacity and adobe production premium - I think that's about everything I have installed.

    Cheers,
    Chris

I don't remember who was asking but heres a couple pics of my Lugger bag.

    The faka is pretty huge..

and a top view of the bag showing my HDX inside. No side to side movement with lots of room. The two pouch looking areas hold my TV antenna, mousepad, mouse and earphones. The back area under my thumb is another big assed area that could probably hold another HDX. :) But the pouches are velcro'd in and keep the laptop snug.

I like the bag although I have nothing to compare it to. Serves its purpose.

    Aloha

    1. Dunno? Have to look into it more.

    2. Can't replicate the problem in Word '07 so I'm assuming it must have been the driver for your keyboard/mouse combo. I'm using a Logitech MX revolution mouse and haven't experienced any problems.

    3. Download and install Ccleaner. http://www.ccleaner.com/
Once it's up and running, go to its tools menu then startup. Scroll down and you'll see under the programs column "OnScreenDisplay." Disable it then reboot.

You should be getting mid 7000s. Check your power settings. You should be on balanced and make sure when plugged in CPU is set to 100%.

You can get to power setting by clicking in the battery icon in your tray. Choose more power options. Then select "change plan settings."

Then select "change advanced power settings."

Check processor power management. make sure when plugged in it is set to 100%.

Does the notebook bag for the Acer 89xx series laptop not work? Would it be too small or what? I told my oma to get me that bag, so I’ll have something to carry it in when I do decide to “Fork lift” it to School every blue moon.

    umileroberto

When mine get here, I’ll be sure to post the benchmarks, among other things. I’m trying so hard to keep my excitement level down, while waiting on my notebook to come. The thing is, I won’t get it till August! :((

A very pleasant July 4 conversation took place with yet another senior hpshopping representative that netted reassurances - the HDX is here to stay. "If anything it might be called HDX-10 or HDX-10000 as opposed to the HDX 9000 and HDX 9500 series" he said.

Asking him to share with us any news he had on the upcoming release of Montevina/Cantiga-Centrino 2, and its integration in the next HDX. He confirmed that he had already been briefed by Intel and could not speak about it until its release. He indicated that there is enough leakage out there to draw a positive conclusion.

We asked if a Blu Ray Writer will be an option. He replied that he is definitley hoping so but could not be sure whether its speed would be 4x or 6x writing Blu Ray. He stated "it will debut with a 6x standard IF it is fully tested and approved by HP in time of the relase". He added, "HP had been a lagger because it likes to make sure that all its components are working well and therefore with fewer issues than the competition. Otherwise, it will debut with a 4x Blu Ray writer".

Toward the end of the conversation and in reply to his question, we stated that 6 of us have been waiting since January and will only order HDX's with those specifications. We added, "we remain hopeful and are looking forward to the release of the new HDX with Montevina/Cantiga-Centrino 2 and a Blu Ray Writer". He replied "I am looking forward to it too - hang-in there".

In conclusion, we felt beyond doubt that the senior hpshopping rep was confirming everything but not in so many words. We remain hopeful - Confidence is high!

    Ok another idea.

Control Panel - system - device manager. click display adapter to make sure it's an 8800M GTS. Check to see what driver version you have. Post it here. Last digits should read 167.53.

Then right click on your desktop and click Nvidia Control Panel. Go to manage 3d settings>Global settings tab. If you don't see this then choose advanced settings. Scroll down the list and choose mixed display/mixed GPU acceleration. Set that to single display.

Let me know what you come up with.

Hi all, I just recently recieved my HDX and am attmepting to dual-boot XP on it. I shrank the partition for the main hard drive and created a 15gb space for XP.
I then attempted to install XP but I get an error whenever I go to install it stating "Setup did not find and hard disk drives installed in your computer. Setup cannot continue. To exit Setup, press F3."

Any ideas? The partition I created is X: just so i don't get it mixed up with any of the others. It is NTFS format. 15.0gb named "XP".

seems to be the usual problem
to which you might want to apply the usual solution.

    --

To sum it up, xp doesn't have the drivers needed to recognize modern sata controllers. The old solution to that was to tell xp, during install, to use a specific driver located on a floppy disk. Of course, most modern computers don't have a floppy disc anymore, ha ha, hmm...

Imho, the simplest solution is to use a prog called nLite which takes your xp setup cd and add what you want to them (this driver for example), it then creates a new xp setup cd which will recognize the sata controller during install.

So now that I have the HDX I have a few questions...

-Any way the HDX can take RGB / VGA input? Or is the only way to take video input through s-video? (I want to connect Xbox 360 in HD)

-How come overclocking the NVIDIA GTS 8800m with nvidia system tools add-on (pretty much nTune) has no effect?

    -Is the HDX MXM?

-Anyone know where the CPU is located on the HDX and what I have to remove to get to it? I'm replacing my T9300 in a few days and I don't want to remove more than I have to.

-Any recommendations for a gaming mouse? (specifically for FPS games)

    Thanks for your help :)

    1. Definitely no way to get RGB/VGA into it nor an HD signal from HDMI/DVI.

    2. I tried ntune with a modest 50Mhz overclock on Mem and core and scored an average 500 more points in 3dmark06. With no increase in temp max. You may want to try cool bits instead of ntune. But then again, I'm running it with Arctic silver 5 and a semi lapped heatsink.

    3. It's definitely MXM. Not upgradeable though since the BIOS won't support anything other that what they offer.

    4. Having taken it apart last weekend, using the service manual, the whole thing must come apart. Look at spending around 3 hours or more. It's not intuitive so definitely follow the manual. The good news is that the screen doesn't have to come off. Just make sure you protect it while you work.

    5. I'm using Logitech's MX revolution wireless for FPS and RTS games. ZERO lag. Though it's only 800 DPI. For a wired one, The G9 is pretty sweet. 3200 DPI. Logitech makes perfect mice. Skip their keyboards though. Buggy.

Unless the “Service Manual” is wrong, you have to darn near take the whole thing apart. Remove hard drive, Optical drive, keyboard, hinge cover, rear cover, top cover, subwoofer and system board. Once the system board is removed, turn over and loosen the three silver screws that secure the heat sink.

    I've been getting 7890 -7930.

If anything, try reinstalling the video driver. If that doesn't work, might be a faulty GPU. Send it back in for a refund.

I called up today twice just for kicks and the reps said something different. One said that there are no plans to continue this size HDX. The other said that they haven't been trained on any new HDX.

    Time will tell though.

I’ve read the manual a few times already and don’t even have it yet. I like to take apart stuff, so I’m prepared to do so. But looking at everything, the system should run pretty cool to the touch. Guess it’s expected, since the computer is so large. I’ve tried to read all the pages here, but keep falling short. What I did read, was you ( 2.0) wanting to wait till an upgraded version of the HDX was released. Since you didn’t, do you have any regrets? Just would like to have your opinion on this laptop, so I can either feel very sure I’m making the right decision on getting this (I believe I have), or will feel sorry I didn’t get something else?

At the price I paid, no regrets. You can't find a 20" notebook anywhere with these specs and under $2000 (I had discounts codes). The Dell fossil (XPS 2010) just doesn't cut it. With this machine sitting in front of me now, in all its glory, there's not much more a new model could offer. Blu-ray writer? Don't need it. LED backlight? With this dual lamp screen's brightness and clarity, it wouldn't be much of an improvement. Better GPU? for a few frames more per second? Nah. None of those things are worth $1000+ more. At least not to me anyway.

HP's really outdone themselves with this unit. Even with its minor quirks.

When I was waiting for a new model, the idea was that it would come in around a few hundred more at debut or at price the HDX was selling for in the spring. with options around $3000 delivered. Price dropped considerably since. So it was a no brainer.

Hi, thanks for the quick reply :) - I'll try out Ccleaner, last time my sister used that on her computer her webcam stopped working - so I have been a bit weary of using it, also, reinstalling the webcam drivers on her computer didn't make it work again.
    Thanks :)

I don't like Ccleaner either, it messed up my old PC - Instead I suggest you to run "msconfig" from the Run option in the Start menu and disable the OSD from the setup tab -(Besides someone who names his program "Crap" Cleaner can't aspire to get my poetic support... that's its original name I swear)

I have heard a lot of good and bad from it, I also agree, Crap isn't the best name to put into an application - unless the person who made it was really annoyed and just decided to call it crap cleaner as he/she is sick of the crap :p.

msconfig! of course, me dumb dumb lol.. thanks :) - though I'd prefer to solve the problem rather than just disable it as it tells me my bass and treble levels as well, which is really handy.

Though I've heard left and right it's good, I too had probs after running ccleaner...

Just in case, for those wanting to manipulate the startup list in windows, there's a small freeware app which does that quite nicely, it's called startupCPL

Are you sure you have the 8800GTS and not the ATI2600XT? It seems if this computer was the one you wanted, you would be willing to have them send you one that do work if that one isn’t performing as should (I’ll take your word for it). But if you have the 2600XT, don’t expect more.

Download GPU-Z, CPU-Z and post screen shots of the results. There are also places on this forum you can go, if you want to tweak the GTS video card, if that is indeed what you have. Seeing you only have so few post, maybe you need to search “Why my 06 score is so low”? With that being said….I wouldn’t know why you would be getting less than 5000 points, even if the system is not tweaked.

Where are you at in Germany? My oma is getting me one from Germany, and I can’t wait either. Your wait is only 2 days, mine is a month!

    Grüße zurück!
I'm from a smaller town near Dortmund/Münster/Hamm, so some big cities are pretty close :D

If you want, let’s start over? You initially said the first thing you did, was run 3DMARK06. Let’s do it this way. Run the recovery either with the DVD’s or the option thru F11 or whatever, and let’s have a fresh start. Only this time, let the first thing you do is download drivers from “laptop video 2 go”, replacing the video drivers that comes with your system. Then make sure everything is set to high performance with v sync off, and run the test. That should give us a good idea of what is going on, if any. At this point, you have nothing to lose….right? If you’re running the 64bit version, make sure the drivers are for 64bit. If there is some kind of fix (just in case) for your CPU running Vista 64bit, get it and install it.

    http://laptopvideo2go.com/

If you're lazy like me, use the drivers from here (just download and install).

There you go, just rub it in will ya? :) Please keep us posted on how things are going? I will especially be interested and have a few questions for you, since everything on mine will have German specs all the way down to the DBT TV Tuner.

My grandmother is buying it. But it must be less or equal to 1000 Euros, since that was the limit she allowed me to spend. She said she got 300 Euros off the HP HDX, so that made my decision easier picking it over a 5920G. Now when she receives it, I will have to explain to her why it’s so big…since the reason for her to get me a new laptop was to take it School. We both know that isn’t happening with the HDX LOL! :D

Now how much did you pay for yours? :)

Why can't you take it to school? :D
I hope you'r grandmother can lift the package, it's rather heavy ^^

I paid 1200€ for mine, the prices grew over the last few days. :(
Where did you find one for about 1000€?

    No problem!

There is no need to have that beauty of a machine, and be unhappy. I know you won't be as happy as I’m going to be, but you should be happy. :)

My grandmother just sent me a list of notebooks I can choose from, which the HDX was on the final list (whew!). So all I was going by was the model and specifications. The funny thing is I almost looked over this machine due to the screen size. If I would have picked anything other than this notebook, knowing I could have had it? I would have just been kicking myself every time I thought about it.

    Dito :D

First I wanted to buy a Dell Xps, but a M1530 with better screen and processor lists at about 1100€ - so it would be hillarious to buy that one instead of the HP :D
