I was thinking about getting an HP EX495 server to access data and movies remotely to my HDX and pocket PC if possible. Also getting a Popcorn Hour C200 possibly...I'd like to be able to view the movies that I'm streaming on a monitor as it goes out remotely. Am not sure Popcorn does that but am looking into it. I already have a Slingbox HD which works well but can't seem to get the HDX connected to it via the QuickDock:/ In light of adding a server to/along side of an HDX, has anyone checked out the EUROCOM D900F Panther Mobile Server Edition? Any thoughts? The specs look crazy. Btw I'm not planning to and am not equipped to build a server on my own. Also I wonder if even the regular home servers (EX series) are as much energy suckers as the HP business division ones.
EDIT: To get VGA video out is there anything one needs to do or is it plug and play automatic? Thanks.

I am talking about a specific refurbished-to-new UJ-210S (Sony OEM) with the latest firmware 1.06 (April 2009) installed by the refurbishing company. Johnnyflash was referring to a new UJ-210 drive (these are also available new and are still in regular production today) and this should usually (if new stock) come with the latest equivalent firmware, which might have a different version number but a 2009 date (the Sony 1.06 firmware, available on their support site, is only good for Sony's OEM UJ-210S drives). And yes the new firmware brings the UJ-210 to same speeds as UJ-220.
Regarding dv7t question on recording speeds/data errors, there is no relationship if the drive and the media are in good order and compatible. For extra peace of mind you can record with 'Verify after recording' option enabled in your burning software (but this will add to your total burning time). -
thanks, i pass on the verify feature as it takes forever. i am wondering if i burn a movie let's say at 1x speed vs. 16x speed, when i play it back on a dvd player connected to a tv, let's say, will the slower burned disc spin slower or something different than the 16x burned one?
-
There are no negatives to burning at a slower speed and it has no impact on playback speed. Ok, not really true. It has, but in a positive way - playback (read speed) "can" be faster.
But i need to explaine that.
Every CD/DVD got errors in the 0's and 1's. As you know, a CD got only 0's and 1's on it. Every player got an error correction. So if a player can not read a CD as expected it slows down and try's to read that part again. Not only errors in bits and bytes, but also on fingerprints/dirt.
If you burn slower you have less errors. That means a player "can" read faster.
Really good players (for example a Denon for $2000) can have a error correction that can fix a 3mm hole in a disc.
Most people think CD/DVD is a save backup media. That is not true. As time goes by the chemical constitution of self burned medias change. If you buy cheap blanks and you have bad luck your data can be lost after three years.
I only buy Verbatim blanks. Also the most players can read them.
I'm not a DVD fan. I don't burn anymore. HDD's are so cheap now that i have everything on my Windows Home Server. -
Hey Ricki and 2.0 - still with you!
No problem with F39 bios upgrade. Went to visit my father Sunday; wound up being a 3 day visit as he's recovering from a stroke, and since he's a 7 hour drive one-way from me I decided to stay longer. Probably one of the few households without a computer. Thank you for your concern!!
-
Well then I'm reassured. (in terms of HDX).
In relation to her father, a speedy recovery and hopefully not a major limitation remains. -
PhysX is a runtime upgrade. The version v9.09.0814 (2009.08.14) was certainly already on your system. So it made no sense anyway to remove it then install it again.
186.81 (2009.08.27) included PhysiX v9.09.0428. "after installation to upgrade PhysX v9.09.0814 - Have not you done this?
195.55 (2009.11.17) included PhysX v9.09.0814.
PhysX "comparable" with the Microsoft DirectX End User Runtimes. Here is updated.
The video card drivers (for example, 195.55) is not a runtime upgrade. Here certainly recommends a previous uninstallation.
Driver Sweeper is a tool of 1,000,000,000,000th
It does not know your personal registry.
If you have no problems to use it, then you have some.
Can only recommend the fingers of the tools to 1000000000, which make everything so nice and clean.
More precise statements here fail because of my English skills. -
Hi RickiBerlin. I'm French and I have bought a HDX9270EG used that I imported German. I have used a traductor but I don't understand your post (my english skill is so bad too ^^)
Hi Paradise. You have a link to the german notebook page (21 pages) ?
You know if there is a french notebook page because I'm new on this forum and I don't found ... ?
Thx -
The 2 Fan CPU on my HDX9050EF are always running of maximum power. It's really unpleasant to the noise and baterie. Do you know if I can repair this problem ?
(when I have bought my HDX9050EF used, its owner told me that the computer is fell from the desk)
Furthermore, my laptop works correctly, what would be the interest to update my bios and/or the last nvidia beta ?
Thx -
It was just the fact that Paradise is a German. I had not known before.
In the German forum, there was also a Paradise. Through this article, I realized that it's the same Paradise.
The German forum was since 02/2009 death. 09/2009 again began to live. This made me very happy. However, it is hardly "notebookreview" comparable.
Top German forum......... Top Italian Forum........... Home page french forum
But the French will you know yourself.
Top Forum allemand........ Top Forum Italien........... Page d'accueil du forum français
Mais les Français vous vous connaître.

Ok RickiBerlin Thx !
I use everyday notebookcheck in German version because I think it's THE REFERENCE for laptops (the French version is lighter)
For laptopspirit, I am already member
(it's a forum interesting but not enough active unfortunately
)
And for the website hwupgrade, I have already read some posts
As what HDX DRAGON's Community surpasses the borders !!

From such a mistake, I've never read. The functioning of the ATI HD 2600 XT is also unknown to me. Have you ever read using GPU-Z is the temperature of the GPU? Do write the idle time temperature!
You too can HW-Monitor 1.15 (the 1.15 32-bit use, no install)
launch. Watch this fall whether your fans (GPU and CPU) in level 1.
But I think here there is no software problem. Perhaps there is someone who can help you.
Are exclusive to your question is not really.
You want to know the advantage of a BIOS update?
Read this page! (patience, page takes time to load) Here are described all Bios versions and their changes.
What BIOS runs at you. (HDX9050EF? And HDX9270EG?)
F.37 E HDX9270EG it safe, right?
A BIOS update always carries a risk. Read exactly how to proceed!
There is also a warning against F.40E. (not by me)
Both of my HDX run under F.40 E.
Are exclusive to your question is not really.
You want the advantage of the latest Nvidia beta know (195.55)?
He runs from all the previous best.
But not on ATI HD 2600 XT!

does anyone know if you can hook a ps3 to the dragon via the hdmi port?
-
The HDMI port is an OUTPUT, not an INPUT.
-
Thanks! I was just trying to help my son out, he wanted to try the hdmi port...I will have to search to see what the easiest way to do this for him...first time I have been at a family get together with the dragon...wishing all a very HAppy Thanksgiving!
-
Hi all,
First i apologize for my poor english (i'am french).
I have few questions about the GPU of the HDX9000 series.
For the moment i have a HDX9050EF with a ati 2600 xt.
I have read a lot of post on this forum and i have understood that i can't upgrade to a 8800M GTS (Because my motherboard is not a good version: 448145-001).
Now my question:
if i buy the good motherboard (464591-001) with an 8800M GTS, is the heatsink of my HDX9050EF compatible with that ?
I have the same question for the processor heatsink. Is my processor heatsink (hdx9050ef) compatible with the new HDX motherboard (464591-001) ?
Thanks everybody for your good advices.

Hey guys. First off, Happy Thanksgiving to all.
I was sitting here, using the remote for my Dragon to walk through SecondLife (it's an MMO that i play, but I digress), and I found out a funny little quirk with the Dragon's remote. For those that have an XBox 360, you can use the Dragon remote to control the XBox 360's menu functions. I was able to turn is on/off, cycle through the dashboard menu and click on things with the OK button and even plap videos that i stream from my server. Just a little something I thought i would share. -
can anyone link me to a good IDT audio driver that has bass control for Win7.
-
Search the thread for the 5607 Vista driver that 2.0 posted.
-
this is getting so frustrating.. i cannot get tone control no matter what i do. I'm on win 7 x64, tried using the 5607 driver, or what i think is the 5607... i couldn't find a link in this thread so i googled around.. I tried removing the device first and letting the windows driver install then installing the 5607 after reboot.. still nothing. Why is it so difficult to have working bass control.. jesus.. can anyone help me out.
-
Ok,I am using Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and I have bass abd treble control, but I am using the original driver from Vista x64. They still have that one on the HP web site, the link to it is here. I hope this helps.
As for why, I believe 2.0 explained it a while ago that the audio for the Dragon was, I THINK, made specifically for the Dragon. 2.0, if I am mis-quoting you, please correct me on this.
Mind if I ask which Dragon you have?? -
I'm using the 9399SX.
-
Ok, yes, they list it the same driver on HP canada's website, it's the exact same driver that yours used with Vista x64. It should work and give you bass/trble control.
Also, when you say that you don't have Bass/Treble control, do you mean the touch controls don't work, or that the bass/treble controls aren't present in the sound properties?? I ask because even if the bass/treble controls don't appear on the screen, they are still available in the sound properties in control panel. They won't show on-screen if the proper software isn't installed. -
nah they aren't showing in properties.. i have NO bass control whatsoever, music sounds soo bad.. I remember going through this with an earlier version of win7, but i got it to work somehow.. just reformatted to win7 retail and now i can't figure out what i did to get it to work.. 5607 is NOT working for me at all, not sure if i'm doing something wrong.. other people had mentioned 5929 or 5611??? but i can't find links to any of those drivers.
-
Fair enough. I understand what you're saying. -
Sorry to hear that. I'll pray for a speedy recovery. -
Yea but Physx connects to the NVIDIA drivers, so there could be things left behind in connection to it when one is uninstalled and not the other. NVIDIA tools is not the driver, but was required to be uninstalled when the I tried to install the newest driver, so I feel like if it's connected with it and not uninstalled as well it could pose problems. Also because I know me and won't look up whether the Physx that comes with a new driver is already on the system, for piece of mind I uninstall it all, delete, and then reinstall. I didn't understand some of the things you were saying, but doing the uninstall/reinstall with DriverSweeper has never ever lead to any problems. The newest NVIDIA driver kicks butt especially along with the newest 10.1 Flash GPU accelerated update! Not flawless flash video streaming as advertised, but impressively improved I must say!
-
Happy Thanksgiving btw!
-
dumb question, i think. I have my dragon. I also have a 70" inch HDTV, but it's pushing 5 years old now, and doesn't HDMI inputs. It has component instead. Is there any CHEAP way to get hdmi to component out from our dragons? Does such a simple cable exist? From my understanding, it's not possible from the analog/digital technologies, but then again I see cables like this all over ebay and google shopping:
http://www.dinodirect.com/HDMI-to-Component-Video-Audio-AV-Cable/AFFID-15.html
Do these cables work with a simple plug and play, or is something more expensive lke a set top box / digitalanalog converter / etc etc required? -
http://www.hdtvsupply.com/component-to-hdmi-cable.html
You can go from VGA to a VGA input if it has that, or a converter box I believe. I'm trying to find ways to get video/audio from my HDX out as well.. -
Nope won't work.
HDMI = Digital.
Component = Analogue.
You might be able to do VGA to component out if your TV can accept such a signal (might be timing issues). Other alternative is HDMI to DVI cable. No sound out to the TV though as it is just a video conversion. IF you want sound out to the TV going either of these routes, you can use the headphone jack and get a cable that converts 1/8 stereo to RCA (l/r). Plug into the audio in of the TV. -
Yea the HDMI to Component or Composite are scams as the link above states, but he could do a converter though no? HDMI is encrypted so I wonder if that wouldn't work because of that.
http://www.hdtvsupply.com/cotohd.html -
HDMI isn't encrypted, HDCP programming or content that's transmitted over HDMI is.
HDMI to Component Converter is an expensive way to go. Better off just buying a BluRay player to watch movies on TV. However, if one is looking use the TV as a monitor (no HDCP content), then converting VGA to Component or HDMI to DVI is a cheaper way to go. -
Gotcha. Is VGA automatic/plug and play or do you have to enable it via NVIDIA settings or what not? I'm STILL trying to get video and audio out working somehow to Slingbox..

Hey guys, it's been a long time since I've posted here, but that hasn't stopped me from reading haha. A week or 2 ago I was in a minor motorcycle accident, and though the Alienware backpack saved the laptop mostly, i ended cracking the front screen bezel. I've been looking for a replacement, and so far the cheapest I've found was $90. I was wondering if anyone has purchased one recently and if so how much and from who? it's the 9494NR 20.1" monitor part number 452307-001.
thanks all. -
HaHa, that was pretty cute.
-
Pretty much the going price from trusted vendors. HP has it for 84.55 + 11.25 shipping + 90 day warranty on the part. Total $96.
PChub.com, located in SE Asia, had it for $30 used + about $36 ship to US. But they are out of stock. You can try to contact them in case they didn't update their stock.
http://www.pchub.com/uph/laptop/354-34981-8979/HP-Pavilion-HDX9000-Series--LCD-Front-Bezel.html -
It's plug and play for the most part. You may have to configure it in Nvidia control panel under set up multiple displays.
I'm assuming you have Slingbox HD Pro. A VGA to Component cable should work for you. They run for under $30. Then for audio, you can use a 1/8 stereo phono to RCA stereo cable - plugged into one of the headphone jacks. That cable should be under $10.
I know the quickdock has the precise outputs you need (component & SPDIF coax), but unfortunately doesn't seem to work. -
Yea its the Slingbox Pro HD. Would a VGA to composite or SVideo work? Ideally I'm trying to get a VGA to coaxial because that's the only open port, since my component is taken up by my DVR, a DVD player is connected via the SVideo port, and another cable box is connected to the AV port. I really wished the QuickDock worked..seems like the NVIDIA card put a limit on it or something. I can't figure out why it worked only for a week. Thanks!

Thanks 2.0 always a great source of information

Can't convert VGA (RGB/Hsync/Vsync) to S-Video (Y/C) with a cable. Neither to Composite (C).
A converter box (VGA to Svideo) will have a dodgy look. Thumbs down on that old son.
And now that I think about it, a VGA to Component won't work either since you would also need Sync on Green output from VGA.
Shame the QUickDock doesn't work. Has all the proper outs you would have needed.
Only other alternative I can think of is a USB to S-video or Component out device. They should run under $50. SOme expansion docks had them. -
Right, if anyone is looking for a good, free anti-malware/virus program other than the usual suspects, that integrates seamlessly into windows with a small footprint - have a look at this...

Great..so the VGA to SVide/Composite adapter won't work then. So USB to SVideo would allow video to go OUT of the HDX via USB as opposed to in? Can you recommend any specific one and/or docks?
EDIT: I bought a VGA to Svideo converter here: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.26804 but it came dead on arrival.. Unless of course there's a smaller kind of USB that just doesn't fit or work with our HDX that I don't know about. I also got an RF Modulator and THAT ALSO came DOA..Lol.. So I spent about $40 for nothing so far..besides the 4-5 QuickDocks I bought that don't work either. I don't get it..they are recognized by the HDX, the USB ports work, but not component, any of the video ports or SPDIF.
Do you think this would work http://www.svideo.com/pctocomponent.html to connect to an RF Modulator to the coaxial input on the Slingbox?
and or maybe this?

Correction, it isn't my fan CPU but my fan CGU which is always running of maximum power (I have open my HDX thanks to CompTrekkie's videos)
Yes, I think too, it isn't a software problem unfortunatly
If anyone can give me tips ... THX
Thx for these informations Ricki

Salut tototrix,
Je pense qu'il te serait beaucoup plus simple et moins onéreux d'acheter directement un HDX avec une 8800M GTS et un gros processeur de série. (et je dis pas ça simplement car j'ai un modèle à vendre avec une config similaire
)
Hi tototrix,
I think you would be much simpler and less expensive to buy directly HDX with 8800M GTS and a big processor series. (and I don't say this simply because I have to sell a model with a similar config
)
-
* La plasturgie est elle strictement la même?
* Idem pour les dissipateur?
* Etc...
This looks great 2.0 - thank you! I currently have Avast antivirus - should this be uninstalled?
