I must not understand the complete nature of the brightness issue then. I spent an hour messing with different settings trying to get it to 'fail'. No need to explain it to me, as I don't mess with the brightness settings or put the computer to sleep. I imagine if I ever run across it though, I'll just slap myself in the forehead and give out a big 'Dohhhh...now I get it.' :D

Glad you like the driver though.

Because this driver is so good, this time I took a more scientific approach to figure out the brightness issue.

Hiccup. I wrote it down.

Have to keep the QLB Driver.

So when the driver is installed, you have to reboot as it says. When the OS comes back up, you have to reboot again.

When OS comes back up, hit win+X to see the brightness level there. Make a visual note of its location. Close that window down. Now sleep. Wake.

Win+x and the brightness should have changed. Perhaps not for everyone. But most I guess depending on where your f7/f8 brightness was. Now adjust the brightness using f7/78 which moves in 10% increments. Try to figure how far away the brightness has moved along the bar in the win+X windows. That bar represents 0-100% in 10% increments.

    Now sleep, now wake.

If the brightness isn't where it should be and is off a bit, use f7/f8 to get it right.

Then sleep, wake. Once it is adjusted, log off and reboot. It should be fine.

    And there it is. :)

Thanks for the heads up about the driver. Borderlands is butter smooth with them and a bit more vibrant and detailed.

So how does Borderlands run on this thing, what's it compare to (gameplay wise), and how do you rate the game? I've wanted to get it for a while, just haven't pulled the trigger. Folks say it is very addicting, ala Diablo.

It always ran very well on the HDX. The DLC Secret Army of General Knox has a bit more grahical elements that would cause minor stutter at certain points. (Not any more with new driver.).

I rank it as one of my favorite games of all time.

It has a lot of old school elements to it. It's an FPS RPG game. The graphics are amazing and clever. It's done in water color like comic book style. Not sure what to compare it with that would give you a good sense. There's a bit of Duke Nukem elements to it. Funny one liners abound. Dizzing array of weapons and weapon specs. There's loot. Always an RPG favorite. Challenges to face. Very entertaining story line. Dynamic mood music that's well done.

It's one of those games you won't regret. I give it a 95%. -%5 for the ending. I was all "? Why so hard? Really." Until I figured it out. Then I was like, "Oh. Right then."

It has a lot of replay value. Something you don't find all to often these days.

My favorite characters are Lilith and Roland.

And if you play it online or LAN, you'll really have a blast.

I found this 3d edit for 2d -3d conversion. Let me know if you've tried something of this loop:

How To: Upgrade Your 2D Movies to 3D | Maximum PC

Haven't tried it yet because even the WUXGA HDX isn't par with IMAX. (except exceeding in all-you-can-eat popcorn)

Nice. Better you than I anyway :D

I also have seen that Spielberg is working on a sort of phase-ridged monitor system to display 3D without glasses. It may end up too costly, but holography just wouldn't make sense in a single-screened theatre--though I think this sits on the 3D/hologram qubit. Ideal to have something digital-to-brain crossover, but that may be too tricky (and creep out people Matrix-like).

I am going to try Assasin's Creed 2 as soon as I can boot up win7 on the OCZ that I RMA'd. I hope this big guy has got the guts. :)

There are already lots of autostereoscopic monitors around (incl. solutions for small mobile displays) and they have been there for many years.

I too add my seal of approval to this driver (For what it is worth). I have used each NIVIDA WHQL driver along the way and have had issues with each of the 19x.x drivers. None performed quite as well as 186.X. The latest was giving me issues with Crysis. The smallest OC of the GPU when playing Crysis would cause the GPU to crash and my FPS would never get above 24. With this driver I get 30-32 FPS and can OC without issue (BTW all setting are on High). I also notice all my other games have gained a few FPS. Not as many suffered as much as Crysis did though.

I also have a noticeable increase in color quality. The other 19x.x drivers looked more washed out. I use a very nice 24 LCD as my second monitor and my desktop backgrounds looked noticeably more crisp and vibrant on it even when using the VGA connector. Now the HDX looks better (and no the other is not now washed out :).

Also Blue-ray works without an issue and looks a bit more vibrant then the other 19x.x series.

I noticed many of the same things. I'm still scratching my head as to how it's possible for it to look so good. But it really does.

I was also crashing or getting choppy/stuck audio in the final level of Crysis Warhead with other 19x.xx drivers. But this one plays right through.

Tonight I'll test to see if I can push a bit more overclock.

Temps are good with this driver also so I figure might as well push it a bit.

Sorry 'bout the bump, but that was real fun seeing my OCZ LE max out the wei score. Amazing boot time difference!

I know wei is for wei-wei's, but what is it with an x9000?

    All of what comptrekkie says.

I'll add that, that is one of the ones that we refer to as retail/OEM x9000.

ES (engineering samples) versions, like Q174, are not retail but you can consider them beta versions. They were never sold to the public and technically are not legal for sale. The ES Q714 would be considered a release candidate. It is the last type before retail/OEM versions go on sale sharing identical specs with retail/OEM versions like the SLAQJ.

    Hmm.. that is odd.

The only two OEM/Retail sSpec numbers are:

    SLAZ3 & SLAQJ.

    Here are their pages:
    Intel® Core?2 Extreme Mobile Processor X9000 - SLAZ3
    Intel® Core?2 Extreme Mobile Processor X9000 - SLAQJ

On the individual pages both say Core Stepping: M0.

Now look at the bottom of this page:
    Intel® Core?2 Extreme Processor X9000 (6M Cache, 2.80 GHz, 800 MHz FSB) with SPEC Code(s) SLAQJ, SLAZ3

that covers both x9000s and it says the step is C0. That is the step you want.

maybe there is a terminology getting mixed up here.

For more info here is Intel's definition of Core Stepping:
    http://www.intel.com/support/processors/sb/cs-001665.htm

This would suggest that M0 is much new than C0. Back when I bought mine I was under the impression that C0 was what to look for. Maybe one page is more updated than the other?

    Look at this Wiki:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Core_(microarchitecture)

Scroll down to the “Steppings using 45 nm process” and you will see that C0 is when the X9000 was released. M0 was next but did not include the X9000.
Keep in mind this is a wiki but this is what I remember being true.

According to CPU World, Retail and Q174 are C0 stepping. They maintain a nearly perfect and accurate database of CPUs.

The Intel database mixed in the early spec ES (M0) with final spec (C0) retail stepping.

    SLAZ3: SLAZ3 (Intel Core 2 Extreme Mobile X9000)
SLAQJ: SLAQJ (Intel Core 2 Extreme Mobile X9000)
    Q174: Q174 (Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile X9000)

These three have retail stepping levels and also report core temps.

Early ES didn't report core temps. So your fans won't know what to do and when. Not sure what level they would always run at all the time.

Nah, kidding. Looks good mate. Plenty of overhead considering the HDX idles in the 40-50w range. Maxes out at about 115 watts gaming, sound maxed.

yep. just remember that depending on your vehicle, usually your cig lighter port you may plug it in to, is capped at a certain wattage...some have theirs wired directly into their battery which would make the full use of the wattage available. just a note to those who are not/have used an inverter before. even the instructions should tell you so.

hey what happened to your pic, 2.0? all i see is a blank space.

I'm in the process of appealing the decision. In the interim, I've gone naked.

I was just reading about that drive the other day and wondering the same thing myself--A little bit of research showed that the Toshiba is 12.5mm thick just like the WD, and as such will not fit into the HDX HDD bracket. Perhaps you could install the drive without the bracket, but even then, I'm not sure if there would be adequate room to fit the drive, or if circumventing the bracket would negatively impact overall stability...

About 6-7 months ago, I did measurements for the Dragon to see if a 12.5mm drive would fit. It will cut it close without the drive caddy, and the door would have to hold it in place. But yeah it will fit. But no one has tried it yet, which it the real problem here.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I cheated and got a laptop stand with wheels for mine. So when i do move it, I don't have to pick it up (looking at modding the stand with a few fans and powweing them via USB or AC adapter. Still working that out though). But I am thinking of getting that updated card and then figuring out a way to secure it in the slot.

Depends? Who serviced it? How long ago?

Let them know. If you have your service order, it will likely have part numbers on it that indicate the LCD panel they installed. Then, all you have to do is to prove that your computer came with a WUXGA panel. If you have the original receipt, that should list that.
