Mulling over the 280m gpu issue between Zipek_dg and 2.0's install attempts, I found this about the vbios from NBR uber specialist Soviet Sunrise:

He is speaking of the same vbios Zipek had on his card, so it seems this may have been 2.0's no-go attempt.

As for the high temperatures, Zipek didn't respond about how he used "standard cooling" that is known incompatible, so I still don't know if it were just a current overdraw.

Thinking back, this would happen to me when I used to try out other sound drivers (especially those recommended by our old buddy Rumba). One of the things I would have to do is to restore back to when a point before I ever installed any sound driver, then install the driver (UAC off, as admin). There was always something left in the registry that I couldn't hunt down. Much like the eject feature of quickplay.

Because of that, I would always install a windows OS then Video and Sound first. Use that state as a default image in case I ever needed to go back.

There's a suggestion or two in there, somewhere. Not sure what else could be the issue. Difficult to trouble shoot the sound driver.

That's just it, mine came unflashed. Zipek's being a pull, was flashed. The RJtech ones are truly, brand new.

No, through the fuzzy screen*, using GPU-z it showed as 280M. But all the other details like memory, clocks, etc was wrong.

*was out of focus with jaggy lines and color banding.

Literally putting the card in the oven and heating it up. This as a solution that many have used to rehab their cards. Reason it works is because it heats the solder bumps and reflows the cold solder joints. Various 7, 8 and 9 series cards have this issue as reported by Nvidia concerning the solder bumps.

For some, even a blow dryer works.

Google "Video card oven trick" and "Nvidia solder bumps" for some interesting sucess stories and background.

Wow. Some people are even baking MoBos back to life. I might have to try this with the parts system that I bought, but ultimately didn't need. It doesn't power on, and doesn't show a blue light indicator when a known good power brick is plugged into it. Is that most likely the MoBo, or could it be the video card? I understand from reading that the video card can keep it from powering up, too.

I had installed nvidia 258,96 drivers and temp of gpu jumped to 51-54C at idle.
Before I used old 17x and it was ~44-48C.
I tried to install 197.45 but sth got wrong and finally couldn't do it.

Ok new issue has occured with my boot...

The other day while on my computer i sometimes forget to plug the ac from the back and while doing some work the battery died on me right, happens all the time since i tend to tunnel vision a lot. Anyways, as I noticed it slowing dying and seeing the monitor go black I immediately plug it back in, but since the batteries already run outa juice I basically had to force restart again.

Like i said, happens a lot but finally this time after rebooting, immediately following the bios post, the boot stays cold for at least 1 minute before finally seeing the "Starting Windows" splash, but after that everything runs fine.

My problem is I've had this happen to a friends computer once before and I can't for the life of me figure out how I fixed it, because I remember this being a unique situation because google search was no help. So far I've done everything from scanning the hard disk for errors, to which there was none. I've gone into the recovery console and ran FixMbr, still nothing, and a few programs such as Windows 7 Manager to ran their system recovery tools to see if there's any errors, and none. And lastly, ran a memory test but that all checks out.

So far I've exhausted everything I normally do from memory when it comes to boot issues, and come up with nada, so at this point it's leading me to suspect there's a hardware issue involved when the battery ran out of juice that last time. But as I've said before once the windows start up screen appears everything from that point on runs smoothly, it's just annoying have to wait 2½ minutes for the OS to start up before I can start doing my thing. Any suggestions fellas?

For 197.45, you have to get rid of Nv_disp inf file and just keep the NV_WHQL inf. Then it will install.

Oh Boy! Another pain in the neck. Dragon refuses to play Blu Rays. Used to, now just plays DVDs. Reinstalled Quickplay 3.7 from an old backup that used to work, then even tried updating (probably just a copy of the same 3.7 update). Even reinstalled Cyberlink Youcam that recently I had unistalled. Now my suspects go to Nvidia drivers, since recently I tried to roll them back, gave me problems and ended up restoring the system. As we speak I just updated to the latest nvidia driver, apparently all went smooth, but if they are not guilty I am running out of options... Still no blu ray: the drive tries to read it makes repetitive noise and Quickplay tells me to put a dvd in the drive (tried with a Blu Ray that used to work and with a brand new one). Any Suggestion? (reads DVDs) Should I try to remove all the Nvidia trash and reinstall? How????

I suspect/hope it is not broken (I use it so little that I really would be surprised) DVD and blu ray use two different lenses, so one part could be broken and the other not or one could be dirty and not the other. Once I remember someone suggesting to gently tap on the lense in order to help it line up correctly... Tried not working... Since the drive is not seeing it maybe it is the drive's fault, but in the past the problem got fixed by just updating the quickplay software, only I forget whether at the time there was only a problem of reading the blu ray or if the drive also wouldn't see the disc... Maybe when the brute (2.0) sees this post will figure some magic trick of his...

One thing I did was switching zone to read european dvds, while my blu rays are USA... did you do that? But still why shouldn't it find the disc in the drive?

I still suspect Nvidia could have something to do with this, they are the only somehow related drivers I change once in a while!

By the way, every time I start Quickplay it opens a window saying new update found, but it is always the same... Do you get that too?

I don't work in the sanitation dpt. :p , but I always clean the heads GENTLY with a high quality cotton swab dabbed in distilled water, dry out the swab a bit with a microfiber cloth, and then dab the heads once to absorb any 'large' droplets. Nothing else works better, but let me know

Running Vista64; and used to work perfectly - Now the PC doesn't see any blu ray anymore.

Does anyone remember if before installing the Quickplay update the disc was recognized at least by the drive? If so maybe now there is a mechanical problem. Still I remember that some NVidia drivers would not read Blu Ray at all, so maybe some leftover NVidia file from old drivers could be causing the problem...

You should try Digitalwindow's advice. And you can also try using a lens cleaning kit which has lens cleaner and lint free cloth. Blu-ray is more dense than a DVD, so any aberrations between the disc's surface and lens head will cause a failure to read.

Other than that, no other ideas.

Have you tried starting it with battery out, just AC in? IF it doesn't happen then, you can, while the unit is on, insert the battery then reboot.

Regarding the Blu Ray I have found this link, I wonder if I updated PowerDVD... mmmh maybe that is the cause?

    Optiarc BD Rom BC-5500S - Won't play movies - Blu-ray Forum

    Update\
Nope: Tried but nothing. I still suspect nvida could be the culprit... In fact I have the latest version of the driver but in the registry some elements in their name include the number of a previous version, for example:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SOFTWARE NVIDIA Corporation Installer

Report on the right panel among other things:
    DisplayDriverVersion REG_Z 8.17.11.9716

    But I removed that driver!
What can I do to just remove EVERY trace of NVidia from the PC and then install the latest driver? Long ago NVidia used to have a tool for that... now?

Anyway my disc is not even SEEING by the drive... If the problem were NVidia at least It should be aware I put a Blu Ray in it, RIGHT?????

Before using driver sweeper, if you uninstall the driver from device manager and check the delete box, that will safely get rid of the driver. Then reboot. What will happen is that the next driver in the driver cache will be installed. Uninstall that through the device manager also. Hit check box. Reboot. Repeat this process until the Microsoft VGA driver is automatically installed. You can usually tell when that happens by right clicking desktop and not seeing the Nvidia control panel link. You can also verify by the pop up when you reboot and by looking in the device manager. This method is safer than using driver sweeper.

Then you can install whatever Nvidia driver you want. Remember to use this method and do not install drivers on top of one another. Always unisntall them first, preferably using the device manager with delete box checked.

Just in case, here the link to driver sweeper...

    If your problem is solved?
    The subwoofer is working again?

    If not ...
    When I ran the original driver "IDT STAC9271 version 6.10.5607.0 B sp40438" on Win7x64.
Subwoofer and left and right was ok.
Sometimes, however, there were startup problems with the service "Audio Service" (STacSV64.exe).
For this reason I installed the "IDT High Definition Audio CODEC 6.10.6289.0 REV: B sp49465 (August 13, 2010)" . <--Attention direct download and not for Windows Vista on HDX!
This runs without problems on the HDX with Win7x64. Sound, subwoofer and HDMI ok. No problems. :) Other driver information see here.

On Windows Vista x32 but I get the same problem as you with the new driver (sp49465). Therefore, there is still the original driver (sp40438) without problems. :)

To make it even pronounce ...
There are no iddle temperature differences between the GPU drivers!
If you are getting other iddle values, it is always at your measurement program.
HW Monitor or related programs (such as PC Wizard) to change the ACPI fan control. Had this date lead in a post already explained in detail.

If you must measure strictly, only with GPU-Z!
HW monitor should have been before but never executed.
If only to cool below 53 degrees GPU can then run reboot.

Apart from that, is not recommended nvidia 258.96 - see my post and repost the following.
My system runs great with 257.21 WHQL.

    Thanks :)

    I just wanted to try a Win7.
I've got Win7 HP x86 modified with vlite, which I use on my netbook. It works fine on it.

After installing this os on hdx
25 processes and usage of ram 390mb

I installed everything and got 33-35 processes and ~550mb. (I don't use fingerpritnt)
Now the OS is like a rocket :)
I'm going to test it for a month and if everything is fine I will buy a licence.

Yes. This is so since version 3.7.0.6310. This "update notice is" always on
first start after reinstalling QuickPlay. Confirm the update and then close the browser window. Now you should no longer appear this message.

By the way, comes this "update message" even when installed version 3.7.0.7508.
Funnily enough, again with the "Update Note" to version 3.7.0.6310.
But beware: do not install version 7508, see also my post.

Forget all the software issues and driver problems!
BD works with any version of QuickPlay. (From 3.6.0.4806 to 3.7.0.7508)
BD works with any official Nvidia driver. (From 179.28 to 258.96)
Of course, our original Nvidia drivers.

Your problem is definitely a hardware problem.
I have now the third drive. (See my signature)
Also this has some problems with time at the BD detection.
Here I also use it very rarely.
    Try different disc!
    Cleaning is always good.
If the disc is not recognized in Explorer, then change the Drive!

I know exactly of what I write. These are not conjectures.
    Good luck!

Thanks! I also tend to believe it's a Hardware problem, but I assure you that for many people BD did NOT work with the original version of Quickplay, it definitely needed the update first.

Anyway I followed 2.0's instructions, now NVidia is updated to latest version but the problem is still there. Very very very strange.

I was just on older pages ... click me! --->

If the disc after 15 seconds is not displayed in Explorer, then Eject!
    (Only on side ejection button)
Try the same disc more quiet. Sometimes this is only recognized when 5x.
    Good luck!
Optiarc BD ROM BC-5500A is certainly the better drive and that you have already

Everything comes down to personal needs.
T9300 has an approximately 20% performance increase over the T8100.
    But you attracts like?
I needed a little more CPU power for specific tasks, but no X9000.
    For me this the TDP was a little too high. (X90000 = 44Watt / TXXXX = 35Watt)
This increases the Iddle temperature, and the fan turns faster Level 2
Background noise increases and shorter battery life spoke against it.
The T9300 was for me the best choice. 6MB Level 2 cache, and thus doubling the T8100.
Here is a comparative 3DMark06 on my HDX with T8100, T8300 and T9300.
This is not directly the benefit of the T9300.
Here in the " Review Intel Core 2 Duo" Penryn "CPUs" this must be assessed better.
In the " Comparison of Mobile Processors (CPU benchmark)" You see then all processors in comparison.
Attention: the last link causes Explorer crash when the AddOn "Digital Persona Personal Extension (DpOtsPluginIe8.dll) is installed. Then use the explorer without add-ons!
Applies only to other people, you have not even installed.

    My recommendation at this order:
    1.Win7
    2.64bit OS (higher memory throughput)
    3.SSD
4.If RAM utilized (see Task Manager) expand RAM.
5.In case of CPU-intensive applications (see Task Manager) exchange CPU.
to 5 Since the introduction of the Core i5 and i7 something less interesting.

By the way, RAM usage is great, but RAM is there.
I think you do not need another processor. ;)

Just for info and which will be no ads.
My Express Card 54 slot was always so empty  and so ...

1st Have bought second remote control (this could be still dirty)
Unfortunately, this not with the HDX.

2nd Have ExpressCard Bluetooth MoGo Mouse X54 purchased.
I'm really, really not a Mouse fan, but after hours on the touchpad is sometimes cool. :)
Works wonderfully with the HDX. Only if QuickPlay is installed, this one has in the autorun, you can get at the media control problems.

I'm not in the Autorun QuickPlay, and need no media control. :p
SSD was out of the best buy for a long time.

    Here's a video ...
If this is anyone ever have recommended - Sorry!

Maybe because when you ask for help you are just a liiiiiittle bit vague?
    :p

Just kidding; same problem here can you be a little more specific: did it EVER play them? Did you install the Quickplay update?

    @Ducnorton and Black Knight

The first question should be ...
Do you have a BluRay drive?

    For example
SLAVJ (Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile T8100)
    What does BOLD part mean?
There are for example t9300 which have it and don't
    Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile T9300 FF80576GG0606M (BX80576T9300)

SLAYY (Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile T9300)

    I meant ...
Try the same disc multiple times. and ...
When you insert the disc rotate clockwise!
Strangely enough, the drive recognizes the disc then more often. This is no joke!

And now for her testimony QuickPlay must be updated at the factory to read BD.
    This is wrong!

I'm now testing with all versions of the software made.
All versions play BD from now on. And this under Vista and Win7!
Test on Windows Vista Home Premium x32 and Windows 7 Professional x64.

Pre-installed and not downloaded from HP QuickPlay V.3.6.0.4806 -
    1st Old Design
    2nd BD playable immediately
3rd Audio Stereo Mode max 2 channel (analog out)
4th "SPIDF 7.1" not operational (HDMI)
    5th Win7 no test

QuickPlay V.3.6.0.4820 downloadable drivers on HP site
    1st Old Design
    2nd BD playable immediately
3rd Audio Stereo Mode max 2 channel (analog out)
4th "SPIDF 7.1" not operational (HDMI)
5th Bad menus under Win7, but plays BD

    QuickPlay V.3.7.0.5216

    1st New Design
    2nd BD playable immediately
3rd Audio mode 7.1 (analog out)
4th "SPIDF 7.1" not operational (HDMI) Crash when switching on
    5th Win7 ok
Note: No automatic resume function for disk

    QuickPlay V.3.7.0.5620 <--Direct download!

    1st New Design
    2nd BD playable immediately
3rd Audio mode 7.1 (analog out) - this is the only version which dominates the! (Edit: now also V.3.7.0.5216)
4th "SPIDF 7.1" fully functional (HDMI)
    5th Win7 everything super

    QuickPlay V.3.7.0.5704 / V.3.7.0.5822 / V.3.7.0.6112

    1st New Design
    2nd BD playable immediately
3rd Audio Stereo Mode max 2 channel (analog out)
4th "SPIDF 7.1" fully functional (HDMI)
    5th Win7 ok

QuickPlay V.3.7.0.6310 (This is automatically offered as an update. Update display incorrectly as 6112)

    1st New Design
2nd BD only after OS reboot the system available! (Single version in this is so)
3rd Audio Stereo Mode max 2 channel (analog out)
4th "SPIDF 7.1" fully functional (HDMI) - not resistant
    5th Win7 ok

    QuickPlay V.3.7.0.7508

    1st New Design
    2nd BD playable immediately
3rd Audio Stereo Mode max 2 channel (analog out)
4th "SPIDF 7.1" not operational (HDMI)
5th Win7 ok but only with "IDT Audio 1.0.6289.0" (with original audio faulty navigation)
6th In Windows Vista does not use! Here is the new audio driver works without a subwoofer.

Quick Play All versions run under "Win7 only in Vista Kompatibilitäsmodus"!
    (Otherwise faulty navigation)

All versions have the same functionality.
QickPlay V.3.7.0.5620 however, is the only one with full functionality. (Including 7.1 analog audio output)

    Edit:
1st Test of the "Quick Play V.3.7.0.5216" inserted.
2nd Direct download for "QuickPlay V.3.7.0.5620 added.
3rd The points 1-4 always apply to both OS! Point 5 says only that the Prg.under Win7 running.
4th After installation, run no update within the program! (No component updates)

    Hey i've got another question.

Is it possible to clean the mess that gathers under your keyboard?

I only owned 1 laptop before this one and it had a little button i had to press and it would open so i could clean underneath. Is something simular possible with an HDX? I sure cant find it, but it doesnt hurt to ask...

Have download link in post 11343 inserted.
Your BD problem is this does not resolve, however.
As you can see, BD play in all versions of QuickPlay.

    and...
Sorry, could not really understand your problem.
    Delayed Start?
Maybe you have only one disk in the drive?
    Or a USB device?
Was only as an idea from me ...
Excuse me if I have underestimated or misunderstood you!

    Edit:
It is also possible that your DVD drive is defective. In this case, waiting for your BIOS about 2 minutes and runs until the OS.
    Fehlerprühfung:
Remove the DVD drive physically. Screw for LW (marked remove). Then remove rubber stopper and LW cut short with a small screwdriver.
Instructions here on page 49 of PDF file.
    Then start your OS.
If it now starts normally your LW is defective.
(It is still possible that it works in the current system)

    Perhaps this also helps further!?

    Good luck!

Thanks - I believe you did the test and I appreciate that; but many, me included, could not play BD when first got the HDX and until the first update. Maybe the original installation went wrong then who knows.

After a long search on the net I found many people having the same problem I have: Blu Rays not recognized anymore by the 'Optiarc BC 5500A'

I found someone who asked Hp about that and one of the suggestions they gave him was to delete upper and lower filters in the registry.

Anyone knows what that means and how to do that?
