Grr now I see theres an extra Dox driver there in the Windows folder BUT it won't let me delete it even if I do permissions..Its THERE BUT it says its not there, even though it is..Is there a way to delete it? It also still wont work without test mode which is kinda annoying..but I really dont think it works all together correctly.

I think you mean 8800M GTS. 8800M GTX from another computer will not work.

In any event, the fan is not relevant. But yes, the GPU fan is the same for all. The motherboard version is. Only way to find out what motherboard you have is to disassemble the HDX. Download the user manual and see if you have the ATI/Nvidia motherboard.

I believe you can find the manual's link of page 100. BlackKnights's post.

Trying to follow along what you did, it appears you messed things up pretty good. At this point, a full system restore is recommended. Troubleshooting and fixing isn't worth the time and effort you'd spend based on recommendations found here or on the web.

    Nope. :twitchy:

Would really need an itemized and detailed list of steps taken. There appears to be missing info.

However, in the absence of that, If one follows the steps outlined earlier (either what i posted or Hovercraftdriver's - which is best) to the letter, one shouldn't encounter any problems.

Good news is that an OS recovery will undo it in the cleanest possible manner.

HyperX is a waste. You will see no meaningful performance gains.

Good luck with the 8800M GTX. Likely it won't work at all. And you may kill your HDX... in the name of science or greed...

Question comes up often enough - if one can install a 1066mhz CPU like an X9100 (which you listed) in the HDX.

And as time goes on, the question will come up more frequently since peeps like to upgrade their rig the older it gets.

Has anyone installed Vista Ultimate on their HDX, and got the BD-drive to work? Ive spoken to HP support and they say I need to perform a system recovery before they can send me out a new drive, but I still think that it is a software issue keeping my drive from working. I have the HDX 9494. I did not try the blu-ray drive until after the reformat, and would really rather not roll back just to find out that it was a software issue. The drive is the Optaric BC-5500A. Any help is appreciated, though it has not been looking hopeful. Thanks.

To anyone who runs a docking station with their HDX:

DO NOT leave your Ipod plugged in if you use a docking station when you power off. I have no idea why, but it sees the Ipod as the primary hard drive through the docking station.

I had a near heart attack when I got home tonight, because my system powered on ok, but then no boot into windows and no hdd spin up. I took it apart, cleaned the contacts, put it back together, and still nothing. So next I ran the quick test, memory passed, but hdd went REALLY slow, and the drive wasn't spinning at all.

So finally I disconnect the dock and reboot, it boots up fine. Plug the dock back in, it works fine. Restart: same problem. I finally figured out it was the Ipod being used, even though I had primary hdd selected as first boot device.

Yea the problem was that I overwrote the Dox driver. I wanted to follow the directions I was writing out for others to follow, and accidentally re installed the driver again to make sure my directions were step by step correct. After I uninstalled, it only uninstalled one copy of the drivers and made it so that the other was there but not really there as an active driver, so it couldnt be uninstalled, deleted or anything, it was in limbo only to screw up any present or future drivers that needed to work with the GPU.

I agreed before I saw this as it was too much of a headache. I actually did several system restores because I kept screwing stuff up..I THINK I'm ok now. One thing I was wondering was if there was a way to override the ability to only make one set of recover dvds? Another thing I'm wondering is whats the difference between doing a System Restore and a Factory Reset I think theyre called? OH two other questions..whats the best software to be able to make an image of ones perfect set up? and for official HP NVIDIA drivers do you still have to do the uninstall-safe mode-clean out the driver remnants system before you install the official ones or can you just install them over top the previous ones? Thanks.

By the way, should restore disks be created before anything, including antivirus, is installed?

I dont think it matters since it runs the recovery program off the partition that it came with from the factory. Maybe be a good idea to do it early on though just so you have them. Make sure you dont do anything else while it runs though because it seems to take up all the system resources...I did mine and dont trust them much because they froze up mid way on one of the disks for a while...yes I was trying to do other things while it was running :) They work but still..

Mine asked to make restore discs at first start-up. But I think you can still create the restore discs, because (in my case) nothing has changed to my restore partition on the hard disc.

    Question,

How do I get the HDMI port to output to my TV? ? Is there a setting on the HDX or is it something on the LCD TV? I hooked up an HDMI, but the TV did not see a signal?

    Thanks,
    Scott

Ok, so I have this laptop and all the sudden the Wifi stops working.

It was working fine yesterday, and today it isn't even recognized in the Device Manager.

I've tried reinstalling the driver, doing a system restore, and a few other things. Has this happened to anyone else? Also, how can I fix it!!

Could the card have gotten unplugged somehow?

Right click your desktop, select Nvidia control panel.

    Select "set up multiple displays."

    Plug in the HDMI cable.

    It should recognize your TV.

If it doesn't and you TV has 2 HDMI ports, use the 2nd HDMI port and not the first. Some TV's can only use computer timings on the 2nd HDMI port.

Factory reset of the OS is what reinstalls the OS and all the bloatware as it was when you got it. System restore goes back to a point before things went belly up.

If you factory restore, you may be able to make a set of recovery discs. I've seen posting stating such.

Best imaging software according to many is Acronis. Never used it but seems to be the gold standard. I do clean installs periodically.

As for the official HP drivers, you don't have to uninstall-install but it's still recommended.

If you already have an external enclosure, you only need a SCSI to USB converter cable. You can find them on eBAY.

Coolbeans thanks 2.0 3000 :) No go on the recovery disks unfortunately. I dont get why it doesnt let me. I used to do it all the time on the DV series..and the owner made a copy and I made a copy..more than one so I dont understand why it doesnt let me make more than one with either a factory reset or system restore. One thing Im confused on is isnt system restore different from a restore point in Windows? When I do system restore it looks the same as factory reset but neither give me recover disks. I'm thinking I will have to order a copy of the disks since I scratched up my own copy as well and can then delete the partition and start from scratch..or just wait till I get new hard drives..either 320 7200rpm or 500gb ones..I asked Seagate and they said the date for them is 1st quarter most likely in February..thats quite a while for me to wait. Guess I'll go with the 320GB ones.

I hate to sound condescending, but try the easy stuff first. Make sure you are switching to the right video input ("Video Source" button on my remote).

I had to have the HDX, my PS2, PS3, and the cable-box all plugged in before I could even add the ports on the TV as a video source.

I test Fedora betas with my Dragon. To do this I load a release ISO on a USB key and then reboot my machine. It then boots it. To get that to work, I had to go into the BIOS and set the boot order so that the USB device was a higher priority than the HD. It was not set this way from the factory.

I would check your BIOS settings again. I suspect you have your USB boot priority higher than your hard drive.

    Yes.

Update on the HP roller bag for the Dragon.

I did another road trip and this time I flew. I was able to carry the roller bag as carry on and it just fit under the seats in economy class.

It was really nice to roll my laptop (and camera) around instead of having it on my shoulder. I'll never carry a laptop in a shoulder bag again.

My flight was delayed a couple hours due to weather. No problem. I found an empty table in the food kiosk area, set up my Dragon and went to work. 2 hours of battery life was just enough. I got a bunch of work done.

Another laptop user walked by me as I worked and said "that is a darn nice laptop".

I love my Dragon and the roller bag.

No. Not doable in the HDX. Video BIOS hidden in the system BIOS.

And another reason why the HDX's graphics cannot be upgraded unless HP comes out with the "MXM" card and supporting BIOS.

I had an almost identical experience :D

Was kinda funny, having people walk past and gawk at the laptop - "Holy crap look at that laptop, it's huge!" <--- Direct quote :D

Anyhow, I was worried the bag would be too big, but I've been on four flights since buying it, and no problems yet with size. The laptop itself is technically TWICE the baggage limit for hand on (I think the limit is about 6kg for the majority of flights) - but they don't actually weigh your hand on luggage at any point, so like I say, no problems yet :)

I take my HP HDX 9350EB to school everyday with ... the shoulderbag. I don't mind it weighing so much.

When I'm in school with my laptop, even teachers come and ask how big that screen is and how much it did cost. When I tell them I paid 1770 Euro for it, they almost drop on the floor xD

Yes, you will need what's called a hard drive caddy. There was discussion about where to get them earlier in this thread. (And by earlier I mean something like 200 pages or so ago.)

Check the yser manual (listed on page 100 of thread) for the actual part number. You can google that.

One thing you can do if you can't find one specifically for the HDX is to look at the physical configuration of the caddy. Thne try to find an equivalent one on ebay by searching "dv9000 hard drive caddy." It may require some slight modification.

    Hi,

I unscrewed the part next to the HDD's on my HDX and I noticed the processor. Next to that, however, I spotted another port(?) below the processor, where I could fit in ANOTHER dual core.

Anybody done this or have any info on how I could go about this?
