You must have misidentified the CPU. It's impossible to add another CPU. What's more, the only way to see the CPU is a complete disassembly of the HDX and removal of the motherboard.
The port you may have uncovered is the mini-PCIe port. It has two slots. One is populated by the Intel wifi card.

Hi
I am a proud owner of a HDX9494 and I too would like to add a second hard drive. Being a newbie, would any SATA 2.5 hard drive do, and does this hard drive caddy look like the right one? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=230314666144&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=013
Thank you!!! -
Anyone having trouble with the HDX's wireless besides me?
I'm having intermittent connection issues... -
Haven't had any issues with the wireless internet yet. Works very good for me.
Greetz -
Yes, any 2.5" SATA HD will do. As for the caddy, likely that's the one that'll fit but a small modification is required. See posts back in this thread around pages 200-250 maybe, concerning what mod was done by those who bought a DV9xxx caddy for use in the HDX.
-
Haven't had any problems here either. You might be near other APs which is causing interference.
A few thing you might try:
1. Go to network and sharing center. You can get there by right clicking the network icon in system tray. Provided that your wifi is connected to your Wifi router (AP), click " view status."
2. Click wireless properties. a new dialogue box will pop up. Uncheck "connect to a more preferred network if available." hit ok.
3. You're back to the dialogue screen before. Now hit properties (has a windows shield symbol before it.) Then hit configure. Click advanced tab. Scroll down to roaming agrressiveness. select lowest roaming. This will stop the wifi radio from looking for other APs. And while you're here, select throughput enhancement and enable it. If your router supports it, it should give you a very nice boost in speed via a technology called packet bursting. -
Just in case folks are interested, nVidia is going to release mobile GPU drivers, supposedly retaining specific manufacturer functionality, on a quarterly basis. Might be a boon for the Blu-Ray owners. First beta drivers and background are here:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/notebook_drivers.html
Haven't checked them out yet... -
I might check them out tomorrow, I'm at home in the morning anyway.
What do you mean with "Might be a boon for the Blu-Ray owners. (my english is good, but not that good xD)
Greetz -
Not screw up Blu-Ray functionality on the HDX and other notebooks.
-
It won't screw up the functionality, they are Nvidia official drivers lol
Greetz -
LOL That was my point originally, but you missed the translation...
-
After you pointed out the boon thingie I got that it doesn't screw the Blu-Ray, otherwise I wouldn't have installed the drivers.
Till now, everything looks fine, touch buttons work etc.
But I don't have a Blu-Ray disc here to try xD
Haven't tested performance yet, I will do so in GTA 4

I have it too..but I also got a new Dlink Wireless N router no tech can seem to give me a straight answer on how exactly one should configure it..to open ports on virtual server AND port forwarding like I had to on my previous Dlink DI 642 or just do port forwarding..and which settings are best..I'm getting intermittant connect reconnect..and I'm finding if I can get online with my HDX I cant with my pocket pc even though they have different IP addresses and ports..I dont get it.
-
lol, I have some cheap router which costed me 25 euros (= 35USD?) and it works very good. I never have disconnect etc.

Since I know some people here are interested in SSD drives for their HDX's, here's some snippets of an interesting article I saw. I've had very good luck with Toshiba products for the most part, especially laptop drives, so hope that holds true for these as well. Only 6 months or so before they're shipping...1/2 Terabyte SSD's...mmmmmmmm....good!
Toshiba 512G-byte solid-state drives due soon
Agam Shah (IDG News Service) 19/12/2008 07:43:00
Toshiba said that it will offer samples of 512G-byte solid-state drives, which could be seen in laptops and other devices by the middle of next year.
... Toshiba's 512G-byte SSD is the highest storage capacity announced for SSDs intended for consumer devices like laptops. Most PC makers today offer 128G-byte SSDs for laptops, and competitor Samsung recently said it put into mass production 256G-byte SSDs, which will become available in a few months.
...
Toshiba's new drive will be offered in a 2.5-inch form factor and is targeted at laptops, desktops and home entertainment systems, the company said. Samples of the new drives will be available in the first quarter of 2009, with mass production beginning in the second quarter.
...
The drives offer a sequential read speed of 240M bytes per second and a sequential write speed of 200M bytes per speed, making them comparable to Samsung's 256G-byte SSDs. Random read and write speeds of the devices were not provided by the company. ... -
Thats great for you but Dlink is a great quality router but being that its maybe a bit more sophisticated than yours it has more options on this one, at least listed differently so Im not sure how exactly to get it to be properly configured..also Comcast cable has specific things you HAVE to do in any router to get it to work. The other Dlink I had was the same way till I found the right was to open ports on it..since theres different menus and names for them I'm not sure how to do it.
-
Sweet but I wonder how much theyre going to be..On another note it sucks that the $89 Crucial memory is no longer available at NewEgg..I was hoping to get me some in a few weeks or so..Oh well I guess I gotta start looking for as good as deal as that one from somewhere.. -
I had to do nothing to get it to work lol, only thing I had to do was plug in the electricity cable and the internet cable. And woops, I got wireless internet. Never had to do anything, so your point doesn't match with my router xD
I've looked for D-Link router too, but it wasn't compatible with my internet connection (don't know why xD)
Don't you have a manual in which people tell you how to configure router?
Mine has different menus too, NAT, Firewall, Ports Forwarding, ... -
That's a darn fast SSD! Must be SLC to be that fast, which means VERY EXPENSIVE! I can only imagine how much this SSD will cost (more than my HDX, I'm sure!).
FWIW, I just put a 128GB G.SKILL SSD in my HDX, replacing the existing Patriot 64GB SSD. Got it a Newegg for just over $200 after paypal cashback.
Speed is the same as the Patriot was, so I'm happy to have a bit more space on my HDX main drive and still keep the snappy boot and load times!
I love SSD. It's the single best performance improvement you could do. -
If you didn't have to do anything, then is your wireless secured? Normally, out of the box, it isn't.
Hey, everyone, lets drive by maartens house and sponge off his internet!
-
Oh yeah, how do I get one of those "samples"???
-
It ain't secured, BUT the router only costed 35USD so don't expect long range connectivity from it. Even if you are on the street with your car and try to sponge off my internet, you won't be able to make a connection ;-)
And during daytimes the router is always switched off, it's only switched on when I'm in need of it
Securing the router is very easy by the way

To those of you looking for a second HD caddy:
Google 'HP Compaq NC6400 NW8440 6910p' and you will find them on eBay for $6 each.
They are EXACTLY the same (down to the sticker on the top) as the one that came with my HDX.
Happy hunting... -
Signed driver off of Nvidia's site, that has the dual HP infs so Blu-Ray will work, 179.28, works great and comes with Physx v8.0.9.
Was using 180.43 Dox driver before. Without PhysX, 3Dmark06 = 8015
179.28 with Physx enabled, 3Dmark06 = 8116 -
Probably a small fortune.
But I am just surprised to see them reach those capacities so quickly. And the prices will drop eventually. So I may have one a couple of years from now. LOL! -
$200 sounds reasonable. Especially for the boost. I'm just glad to see someone pioneering the path forward!
-
Thanks for the tip! Found some but they're up to $10-12 now, a bit high, I think. So I'll wait and try again later. -
Thank you for the info - this forum rocks!

2.0
I googled the driver number and HP and got
http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/drivers/xp/179.28. It mentions 32 Bit. Is this compatible with Vista Ultimate 64?
I'm wondering which driver is best for 64 bit and Bluray.
Thanks -
Just go to Nvidia website and fill in the fields for your computer. It should direct you to the driver for your computer.
-
I use security measures..it was fine before that. -
Lol good ideeja.
-
I hope they drive the price of non SSD down, like the half terrabyte due I guess for around February. May be my birthday present to myself.
-
How are the colors with this one? Do they look normal or look washed out? And hows it for gaming?
-
Me too. Wondering the same thing.
-
Is 8800 GTS the same as 8800M GTS when going to NVIDIAS site to download drivers?
-
Hi Lancorp, do you know what the Newegg model number was for the 4gb x2 GSKILL memory sticks? They no longer have them on the site that I see and they cant or wont look them up without the number.
-
When I do a search at NVIDIA for 8800GTS it comes up with 180.43. What am I missing? OH youre talking about the one under "Notebook drivers".
-
I installed the Nvidia 179.28 Bèta drivers on my HDX and it looks like they work ;-)
Also at this page: http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce_notebook_winvista_179.28_beta.html , go to "Products supported" and you'll see the 8800M GTS listed there.
Greetings -
Here is the official Nvidia 64-bits 179.28 Bèta driver: http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce_notebook_winvista64_179.28_beta.html
8800M GTS is listed in there, so it should work

Here is a link to all of the 179.28 mobile drivers:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/notebook_drivers.html
They retain OEM functionality for virtually all (semi-recent) machines from most manufacturers...Blu-Ray, HDMI, digital out, etc, etc...
They are pretty much a cover all version that are virtually the same as using specific HP drivers. The good thing is they have performance enhancements to cover the latest games. So much so, that Dox is considering not doing mobile driver mods anymore. He has disected the driver and is very impresed with the build and install package.
They are supposed to come out quarterly, probably due to the number of machines/manufacturers they provide support for. This a long time coming, and speaks to the popularity of using notebooks for more than a convenience, i.e. gaming, multi-media, high end graphics, etc.
This is not to say that Dox has decided yet not to mod future desktop drivers for mobile platforms, and you will still be able to do roughly the same thing as him using Mobility Modder if a driver comes out that optimizes a game you are having graphic issues with.
Hope this info helps.
EDIT: I should add that I am using them and they are very solid with good performance and color scheme out of the box. 2.0 is using them also. -
Hi buddies,
Does anybody know why certain users (including me) are unable to get any sound through HDMI in older games (Heroes of M&M V) AFTER updating the (preinstalled) Nvidia 167.53 driver?
I mean, who made that one? Is it a HP only driver? What can it be that makes it work so well with older games? Has that 'savoir-faire' been lost like the ancient skill of making the legendary damascus swords? Is it possible to contact whoever made it and offer him a newborn child in sacrifice or whatever he wants to finally be able to update drivers and use them on a HDTV? (Vista 64 Ultimate)
By installing the latest 179.04 driver for the first time I finally do get sound through HDMI but if I start HeroesV I again no sound from the TV, and from that point on I either get no sound at all through HDMI, or I get a message about a failure to initialize DirectX9 (or something like that, I should have written that down, I know) rolling back to 167.53 or reinstalling 167.53 everything goes back to normal -
it's an issue others have as well, but so far I haven't been that lucky w\ google.
Also
Regarding AUDIO, several MPG and AVI files I have are unplayable even with "Klite" codecs or "VistaCodecs" installed... any other powerful codec pack I should be aware of?
Thanks & Merry Jesus Birthday to everyone in case I won't be able to tell you on the 25th. -
You probably already know this but when I install Klite I find I have problems unless I uncheck all the DIVX options, because they're already included in one of the packages it comes with. To keep DIVX screws everything up. I use the FULL Klite. Merry Jesus' Birthday to you too man.

Hey guys,
I have a few quick questions:
I've been waiting for quite a while to update some of my drivers. Until last night, I had been running all stock drivers. Normally, I wouldn't mess with something that wasn't broken; however, in the case of the video drivers, I had good reason to update them. When media player videos were expanded to fullscreen, the normally black bars at the top and the bottom (or sides depending on aspect ratio) of the screen turned gray. After some research on the internet, I found that this issue was caused by some kind of overlap problem with the video drivers. In the hopes that a driver update would remedy this issue, I updated to the highly recommended 179.28 nVidia beta drivers. After following precisely the instructions left on driver updates from a few pages back and completing the process successfully, the problem seemed to be solved. However, when I inserted a Bluray to insure it still played back correctly, I was met with a slightly different problem. Instead of the bars which were once gray (in media player), the bluray seems to now have a gray sheen over it. What I mean is that, although the bars on the top and bottom of the screen are dark as the night, the video itself is more gray then black. Is there some way I could adjust the settings in the nVidia control panel to fix this, or is there a different solution I may implement? Also, on a different note, I wanted to connect the HDX to my sterio via digital optical a few days ago; I'm not sure what the correct settings are for this. I recall from a while ago that some machines had settings for HDMI audio while others had optical in the audio controls instead. I happen to have the optical setting in mine, but when I set it as the default and connect all of the cables, I get no sound. I'm not sure whether it's trying to rout sound out through the HDMI, and if so, how to change to optical instead.
Finally, with the stock audio drivers that came installed with the HDX, I have experienced some odd things while listening to music. I'm not sure quite how to describe the problem--perhaps a stutter or a slight glitch in sound... In any event, I would like to update my audio drivers to ones which will correct this issue. What are your recommendations for solid audio drivers that retain functionality?
Thanks! -
I guess I'm not the only one! I've had this problem since day one and thought it was only me, but when playing music with my Zune software, there are occassional, random glitches (very fast) in the songs.
I've already tried newer audio drivers, but that didn't work (maybe made it worse, even).
Personally, I think the current crop of IDT audio chips/software are crap. Between Dell and HP, both seem to have funky problems, and drivers are oddly incompatible with each other.
Audio should be easy. For some reason, IDT can't seem to get it right. -
I have the glitches too, very short. Haven't tried to install newer drivers yet and I think I will keep it this way. Maybe they even make it worse, what was the case at Lancorp's HDX.

Hi
I'm looking to add a second hard drive on my HDX9494 - HP calls for a SATA II, and what I'm able to find are just SATA. May I ask what the difference is? Thank you in advance and happy holidays to you all!!! -
Sweet thanks. One question thoug, if something gets screwed up after you delete the first driver then install the new one, can you still roll back?
-
I didn't delete the old one, just installed them over each other.
Grtz -
I Got my HDX16T1005EA, amazing machine!!! I'm very happy with.
I need a help from you guys, I reinstall all the system and now the fingerprint sensor isnt working, I install drivers from the HP site, the system recognizes the sensor, but there's no icon on the tray.
Any idea?
Also any optimization guide for it?
Cheers
