I'm assuming it's the smaller one.
Usually the store versions don't come with the best stuff....
When the HDX 20" laptop was being sold at Best Buy, it didn't come with the full 1080p display....
-
I've got 2 copies of vista ultimate those I never installed on any of my systems. They are retail boxes, not OEM.
OH if your saying it doesn't make sense cost wise...how is Dell, Lenovo, Acer, Gateway are able to do it?? After all they are also in business to make money. -
Has anyone tried upgrading to DDR3 RAM in this system? The intel chipset supports it, so I don't see why the laptop itself would not. I'm interested in trying it out, but would like to hear from others first. Thanks!
-
I can't speak on behalf of Dell, Lenovo, Acer, I don't know there business plan. But I work for a very large technology company and we give rebates for units sold. So from a cost perspective, HP could be making money from the margin of the sale of the OS and they could potentially be getting some kind of rebate from MS for the sale. Remember, a corporate is out to make money. If they don't include an OS, there is no margin from the initial sale and definately no rebate. How does that not make sense cost wise? You are thinking from a consumer point of view. -
I'm frankly sick of HP when it comes this crap. I refuse to keep a laptop when there's an option that I wanted but was not available at the time is all of sudden available.
It's HP's loss. They're the ones wasting time and money. All the money spent shipping back and forth. Al lthe wasted time on the phone processing returns and/or cancellations.
Just stupid really. -
Listen people...can we stop b1tching about how unhappy everyone is with HP's supposedly deceptive and un-businesslike business practices?
You want something that doesn't change price everyday, then go to Best Buy or Newegg or Staples and buy a box. Same price, all the time. Except when it's on sale, then you pay less (which of course no one complains about), but otherwise, it's the same deal all the time.
You want a customized notebook tailored just to your specs? Then here's how build-to-order works--almost all notebook manufacturers have deals that change regularly. Dell. HP. Sony. Lenovo. They're all having some sort of promo that is really just a reshuffling of savings from one free thing to another...bottom line, it's usually all the same. It's their way to mix it up a bit and offer what looks like something new. They all do it, not just HP, so relax. Dell changes every Thursday. Now, wouldn't that just drive some of you crazy!
Ocassionally, there is a REAL DEAL to be had. An awesome coupon, a limited time freebee or a third party promo (like live.com cashback), makes waiting for and finding a deal rewarding. If you're not going take advantage of those good times, then don't complain.
It's not a right to have the best deal on a notebook, or even the same deal. The market for notebook parts (CPU's, RAM, Hard drives, etc.) are all COMMODITY items, and their prices and availability fluctuates DAILY on the real market. It's those fluctuations that allows HP to offer some good deals sometimes, but not others. It's why you cannot buy a QUAD HDX18t now.
I doubt many of you are in the business of running a multi-billion dollar company like HP (or even have a business degree) so you really have little room to scrutinize HP when they haven't done anything different than any other notebook manufacturer.
And, those of you who are "frankly sick of HP" when you haven't even ever bought anything have no right to complain. Are you just living vicariously through those of us that have laid down our cold, hard cash and taken the risk and bought a computer?
Nothing in this industry is static. It's always changing. Technology is always changing. There isn't a computer out there that isn't obsolete the day you buy it.
If you're too scared to take a chance then buy a box at retail. Otherwise, wait for a coupon if you want the best deal, or just order now, and if the deal gets better in the next few weeks, you have the option to return it or get a price protection credit, or just be happy with what you got. The problem with forums like this, is you now everybody else's business, so suddenly, your deal isn't as good as someone elses, and then it's all sour grapes.
There's no guarantees. Deals are deals. They are what they are today. Take it or move on. -
FYI I've bought a dv5t from them for my mom. I've bought a desktop computer (a6460t). SO I have bought things from HP before.
So have many others in this thread.
Our complaints are completely warranted and nothing you say can change that.
HP is not perfect and their recent behavior is completely unacceptable. Dell doesn't do that. Neither does sony.
So I don't give HP a pass. -
Dell and Sony DO the same thing. Deny all you want. I really don't care. This is my business. I spend in the neighborhood of $300,000 annually buying DELL and HP, and I kind of know how it works.
If you want to be upset at the industry as a whole--go for it. But, from what I can see, HP is no different than any other...they have a business to run and a profit to make.
If you want an HDX, buy it. If the deal gets better in 21 days, get a credit or return it. Be happy. Otherwise, the lynch-mob mentality here isn't going to make HP change their business practices. Money talks...you know the rest. -
Nor did I pass on any good deals liar. Waiting 60 days for money to be credited back to your account is not a "deal"
And I've not been lurking. I've been doing research and gathering information because I want to make an informed decision. If that bothers you then that your problem.
And seeing as you're not a mod and you're not a representative for everyone on this board you have no authority and no power. So I'll continue to post here and I'll ask questions and I'll speak my mind whether you like it or not. -
So please, continue to post and I'll look forward to the day when you post that you actually bought an HDX (that is, if you ever get over being sick of HP)... -
Can we please stop arguing about this? Neither side of this is willing to budge Just let it go or take it somewhere else.
-
It's not name calling when it's the truth.
And you've tried to intimidate me multiple times into not posting. Well I'm not some little scare ignorant person. I'm not going to back down and cave into some internet bully who thinks he knows it all. -
I'm not directing this at anyone. It doesn't matter who started it, why it was started, or who is right. The EULA subject needs to be moved elsewhere or dropped.
-
I agree with many of the things Lancorp had said. Like I mentioned earlier, I work for a technology leader and we review cost intensively. Sometimes, our best interest isn't the best interest for the customer, but this is a business and we are striving to make a product. We need to create a solid product and sell it in a manner that will boost growth and income.
But redmop is right, this thread is about the hdx16t which I think is a gorgeous laptop. I am using it right out of the box and except with the removal of bloatware (which I believe to be reduced heavily since my last HP laptop purchase).
I absolutely love the feel of the keyboard and even though I ordered it with the P7350 I think it's plenty fast. I was contemplating exchanging it for another with the normal screen, but after getting used to the 1080p screen, I must say, I wouldn't exchange it for anything now. -
Is there anyway to view some pics of the HDX16 (1920x1080p) screen? I would like to see the difference between the 2 screen sizes that are offered. Thanks

-
Ah crap... duh! Oh well, thanks redmop. I should've known that.
-
Whoa Whoa...guys calm down...i never thought i would be reading some of the stuff i just read as we are all mature...well atleast i hope...and yes EULA should have its own thread, but its no big deal if a person just wants to put in his/her opinion on it to inform other hdx16t users.
@ lancorp...sorry i had to chop up ur post; but wanted to clear things out from my point of view.
Oh, I've got 2 HDX16t notebooks sitting in my room right now. One of them is wrong config the CSR made while doing the exchange and didnt cancel the order and shipped.
Just a quick note on what happened.
-Ordered HDX online using 500 dollar coupon
-issues with laptop; exchanged; sent original order back
-exchange did not process for 7 days; called and another csr had to perform another exchange
-she messed up on the exchange config and submitted the order; noted the error while on phone with csr; she placed another order giving me a freebie for inconvenience; submitted the second order; forgot to cancel wrong config
-got 2 laptops yesterday; would not refund the entire diff between the original price and the "new price" I'm losing 240 dollars for their error.
-got 2 laptops sitting in my room
i kno you could care less, but just so you can see how frustrated i am -
***!!!!!!!!!!! -
I just received my brand new HP HDX16t, before I continue, I have been using HDX prefix to my sn for years now, so it felt very appropiate to purchase one, anyways: I only have 3G ram and currently about 41% is already being used while idle, if this is normal, what kind of programs can I get rid of to free up some memory? and also, what are the chances of HP setting out another deal during black friday? I dont mean to be an *** to the business but im trying to save as much as I can, i still have a little more than 2 weeks to return this, however i do love this laptop, but if i can upgrade it more for a cheaper price, why not?...
and one more thing... im not sure if this relates to alot of you, but norton is already having problems doing a full scan? should i wait for the expiration, or just uninstall and install kaspersky?
any suggestions for freeing up the ram, returning for a better price, and the antivirus, please feel free to throw in your two cents.

I think this was a great deal, but on previous posts, they had 500$ off...was that including all the upgrades, or was that at the final stages of purchasing..
where you put in a coupon code? -
-
Microcenter in Denver has a demo of one.
I couldn't help but notice how reflective the keyboard and palm rest were. Is this bothering anyone? -
The DV7T is almost like looking at a mirrored finish (slightly exagerating) but it is a chrome like finish. The HDX's have some kind of dark tealish color?? (I'm color blind so I can't really tell) but it also has flashy lines flowing across the palm and trackpad. -
Without having to read through 29 pages, what should I know or be made aware of, having just purchased an HDX 16T? I will be using it as a glorified VCR so nothing too taxing for it...
-
-
When I walked up to it, I couldn't tell it was green-ish, it reflected so much light. As I got closer and looked down on it, then I could tell. Still alot of reflection though.
Of course, this is my current model of laptop...

Hey, it was free. -
Yeah that's the HDX... I don't think it's that bad. i think the DV series are more of a fingerprint magnet
-
I should have asked this before the impulse purchase but if I had, it wouldn't have been an impulse!
I guess the HDMI & eSata got me hooked. -
Can some post a few links were to get HP Coupons? Iam trying to to get some coupons for my HDX16.Thanks so much.

i wanted to know before i order this laptop. if i have the internal tv tuner can i have cox cable hooked up to it and how can i add it. the pictures i seen of the side with the tuner, it does not seem i can screw in the cable wire
-
timesquaredesi MagicPeople VooDooPeople
there is an adapter that connects to the side of the laptop. you plug your cable wire into the adapter, then plug in the adapter into the laptop.
-
oh ok thank you. is it on hp website or do i have to fond in stores
-
timesquaredesi MagicPeople VooDooPeople
it comes with the laptop. basically, the adapter has two ports - one for your cable wire and the other side connects to the laptop. you don't need any additional wires or anything like that. you're ready to go right out of the box.
-
thanks that's all i wanted to know
-
so far since ive gotten this computer, the only thing wrong is my ENTER button, it keeps coming off, is there a fast way to fix it, or should i send it back..and just wait?

What else did you get that made it so much? A printer or something? I just spec'd the same system and it was $1,999.00 before the $200 instant rebate.
I have the same system, with 64-bit Ultimate, 4GB of RAM and BD-ROM and I paid less. I think they're screwing with us now, lol. ****ed HP. -
Another thing would be SuperFetch...I have disabled it in my system; most people say it makes a difference if enabled; others say it doesn't.
These 3 services usually run the hard drive non-stop. Hope this helps. -
Since Vista is using more RAM, Is it possible to use XP instead of Vista?
-
I've mentioned some stuff earlier.
I disable: UAC, Indexing Service, SuperFetch, Windows Restore, Updates, Defender, Windows Defrag Service. Those are the major things, and if you google "Vista Tweaks", there are lots of websites with various things you can do. Get Firefox with AdBlockPlus. Don't install any programs from the internet that you are not sure of and you are good to go.
I initially hated vista as it seemed like a memory hog, but after doing the tweaks its as solid as XP. -
Hi all,
Well I received my new HDX16t last Friday and have been enjoying it ever since. Once I turned off all the annoying Vista features (thanks to the Vista tweaks sticky post on this forum), I am also beginning to appreciate that as well.
The display is just amazing. It is so high resolution that the words are tiny, but very clear (although I must admit I need to use my reading glasses for my old eyes).
The sound system is also very impressive!
I loaded Office 2003 and it runs at BLINDING speed. I get so many cells on Excel it makes my work go so much faster. First time I started Excel I was amazed... it was like double click the icon, blink, and it's up!!!
I paid $1299.99 on eBay (of all places) and got it in two days. The same configuration on the HP site is over $1500. I am happy with that!
Here's my config:
HP HDX16t
Operating system: Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 (64-bit)
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo Processor P8600 (2.4 GHz)
Display: 16.0" diagonal High Definition HP Ultra BrightView Infinity Display (1920x1080)
Memory: 4GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
Graphics card: 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT
Hard drive: 320GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
Personalization: Webcam + Fingerprint Reader with HP Imprint Finish (Fluid)
Keyboard: HP Color Matching Keyboard with numeric keypad
Networking: Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card (WiFi Link 5100)
Primary DVD/CD drive: LightScribe SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-RW with Double Layer Support
Primary battery: 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery -
Before I post anything else, I'd like to mention that I didn't mean to cause such a ruckus earlier in the thread with my desire for a Vista rebate. It was entirely unintentional.
So anyway. Have people been going with Vista 32-bit or x64 on this machine? Are you satisfied with it? I've never really used Vista, so my forays into customizing it have been limited. Also, is anyone using a specific laptopvideo2go driver, or just the latest? I wanna wring as much graphics performance outta this as I can. -
Can someone run GPU-Z and post the resultant screenshot?
techpowerup.com/gpuz/
Also, I've received conflicting answers from HP (who seems to never have a clue about what hardware they are selling) to how much memory the HDX 16t can hold? HP has told me 4GB and 8GB from different sales associates, and crucial quotes 8GB? Any answers from owners of the HDX 16t?
Thanks! -

Hi,
I have just configured the HP HDX16T with the below details.
The only concern I had was that is it a value add to spend $195 more for the (1929x1080p) display.
The purpose of this laptop is playing FSX, occassional movies and the general stuff.
HP HDX16t ($1245 With Tax and Shipping)
Intel T9400 (2.53 GHz)-Windows Vista Home Premium-3GB DDR2 System Memory-512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT
