@Capella1
When did you place the order??
Aftermarket solutions for tv-tuner are mostly exprescards. they tend to stick out about half an inch to an inch or so.
you might be able to find the mini-pci-ex tv tuner somewhere, but you would have to route the antenna cable to the small hole on the side of the notebook.
-
Placed the order on 10/16/08.
Found this tuner at Newegg as a possibility: AVerMedia AVerTV Hybrid NanoExpress MTVHBNOER ExpressCard / 54mm Interface
Looks to fit completely flush.
Not so much interested in airbands as I am cable/sat input, so antennae not really a concern to me. Trying to watch early morning news without disturbing others with household TV (light/noise), or any other time I want to watch when I want to watch it! Have not really explored solution though. Any advice appreciated. -
On the subject of TV, is there a way to get cable news on to my home wireless network, or onto my laptop wirelessly? If so, could it be done without interupting programs being watched at the same time elsewhere in the house?

I recived my hdx16 today and returned my dv7t check pictures on youtube look for " Hp Hdx16 and dv7t"
-
I just ordered the HDX16T as below:

- 16.0" diagonal High Definition HP Ultra BrightView Infinity Display (1920x1080p)
- FREE Upgrade to 3GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm) from 2GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
- 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT

questions:
I see they now have a 12 cell battery (the day after I ordered). the only way to get it is to cancel my existing order, pay for the new configuration which is about $120 more than the original, so I guess I'll wait and order the battery when I need it. dissapointed that HP won't work with me to match my deal.
What RAM do you recommend to upgrade to 4GB (I'll just sell the ram it comes with).
anyone use the tv tuner, how does it work, good results?
Has anyone tried a 7200 rpm HD, or is this not needed? Wouldn't it be faster? -
Wow a 12 cell battery for the 16t is pretty cool. But it would be sticking out the back right?
STill though the battery life would be dramatically improved hopefully and that would be worth it IMO. -
I wonder how long before they put the 12 cell in the accessories area? That's what I wanted originally. This 6 cell just doesn't cut it for me.
-
1 word of caution, I noticed this the second I opened my HDX, but try not to put too much pressure on the outer lid of the screen when closed. The keys on the keyboard can cut into the screen glass since the there is really no frame. I've seen this countless times on cell phones with flip enclosures.
-
I called HP, they said they are limited qty and won't be available for some time. I'm sure in a month or so, they'll be available, price is $149.

guys were you able to use any coupons? i find i cant use ANYTHING on the hdx16t model, DV5T i can still use a 10% off but it wont work on on the 16t. any ideas? i want this lappy
-
There are currently NO coupons that can be applied to the 16t....
Yeah it sucks...either way or buy now. I'm waiting for a coupon on the 18t or if the Quad Core option comes back up... -
i keep hearing there were mad coupons before like 500$ off and etc, does HP run that promotion month to month? any clue if they will go on sale this month closer to black friday?
and who said they will have a quad CPU as an option. i figure if 18t got it so will 16t.
man i sure as hell dont want to spend 1600$ on the model i want -
As for coupons I don't know if there is any pattern to when HP releases them. There was a period where there were a LOT of coupons but I think that was to clear out their current stock of dv4ts, dv5ts, and dv7ts.
There could be more coupons. Especially in this economy....
And on another side note the HP sales rep I spoke also told me that the 16t will never have a dual hard drive option. I don't think it can support dual hard drives to begin with. I believe someone on this forum confirmed that for me. -
yes, the battery. it is for production line only to start with.
-
I talked to HP, they said there is no slot for a second hard drive, thus, it only comes with one drive, and you can't add the second as in the DV9000T series.
-
sure hope there is a good sale, because at this point i am not wasting my money. and they would have so many more sales with having some coupons and etc, works out for both sides.
but at the same time i need a laptop now, i dont want to wait until the 25th -
Well gang, I got mine yesterday and have to say I'm very pleased after messing with it for a couple of days.
I went for the t9600cpu, added 4gb OCZ ram with a 4gig flash drive from newegg for 40bucks after mail in rebate, stuck with the 250gbHD (plan to swap it for a SSD next year), Blue ray, 1080display, etc. Did not get the TV tuner. Running Vista Home 64bit.
Everything seems to work right. I updated video driver but WEI is still 5.1 (everything else is higher). Went through the Vista tweaks described elsewhere in these forums.
Well, time to start moving files onboard - sigh.
It is a really cool laptop! -
what was your price OTD
-
I bought the 16t a few weeks ago when they only had the 3G option available. Then they brought out a 4G option. Quickly canceled the first order. I didn't reorder cuz I was pissed off and wanted to wait for them to credit back the first purchase to my account. And then a few days ago HP adds this longer lasting battery as well as a BIGGER hard drive...
Who knows they'll probably soon have 7200 rpm hard drives available. I give up on understanding how HP operates.
-
I spent 2k, but that included 1yr warranty, Office home student, Bluetooth mouse, and state sales tax.
Heres my two cents worth of purchasing advice. Don't get the big hardrive. If you need storage space, get an aftermarket 7200rpm drive. For me, I'm going with an SSD ASAP and relegate large storage needs to my home network drive. IMHO an Intel X25M SSD would make more of a performance improvement than the top CPU does.
Also, save your money on the HP ram option and add your own like I did - saved 60bucks on 4gb and got a free flash drive with it too.
Oh, I used a coupon code that yielded 100 off the already listed instant rebate. -
-
where are the vista teaks located at?
-
I was about to say....sounds like a great laptop. I hope you enjoy it a lot! I look forward to the day I own one of the HDXs... -
-
-
Mine just got here! (Well, it's my girlfriend's, but y'know...)
Either way, it's flippin' gorgeous. I haven't booted it up fully, because I'm preparing to wrestle with HP over the Vista refund. I'll keep posted on how it goes. -
Still on hold.. they tried the whole "it's on your hard drive, you own it, you can't return it" bit. According to this site I still have a leg to stand on. Holding for a case manager.
-
Wow. Just got off the phone with the case manager's supervisor, and he was extremely forceful and aggressive about not being able to refund Vista. I told him several times that I was looking at the license agreement RIGHT THERE that said that I was able to return it, but he kept asserting that "I knew it had Vista on it when I bought it" and that I wouldn't be able to return it.
Looks like it's corporate number time. -
I called the corporate office and spoke to Executive Customer Relations. The lady was SUPER nice and polite, even if she didn't fully understand the problem at hand. She used the ticket number and escalated it to a corporate case manager. Hopefully I'll hear back from them before too long.

-
I have my own copy of Vista, not to mention Ubuntu, that I'll be putting on the notebook instead. It's fine for them to roll Windows up into the price of the computer, but they should also offer refunds if you choose not to accept the EULA (like the agreement tells you you can).

Same thing here...After fresh install the WEI fell to 4.8 instead of 5.1
-
Hey dudes.
I'm interested in the HP Mobile ScrollSmart Remote Control that comes with thip laptop. I would like to know details of it and some close up photos of it. Can anyone direct me to a stupidly comprehensive review of this laptop with photos and details about the remote? And also whether it will work and fit in my dvt5 1050tx. Thanks -
TO APOWERS:
Why would you want to waste everyone's time? Whats the point of being a total ****?
People like you make me sick, its the reason other people think of America as a bunch of spoiled little babies. -
I also installed the latest Nvidea driver but don't know what difference it made.
For whatever reason, my graphics WEI has since dropped from 5.1 to 5.0, but this happened after I messed with the windows graphics options. I put it back to let windows decide but WEI did not go back up. -
Consumers aren't given any choice in what operating system they have to run on their computer. If I wanted to downgrade to XP, or use Linux instead, or even heaven forbid my own Vista license, I'm free to - but only after paying for a copy of Windows Vista that's been rolled up in the price of the hardware. I understand that HP has to include an operating system with the computers, and that Microsoft has ensured that that operating system is Vista, but if they don't want to offer a wide-enough variety of OSes to suit their customers, then they should maintain a policy that allows for returning unwanted software. Microsoft's own EULA even states that if you don't accept the license, you can contact the manufacturer for a refund.
I could understand calling and asking for a laptop without a screen, or trying to get a refund because I don't actually want a hard drive. I'm not trying to demand something that literally could not function without the part in question, or change their manufacturing process. I have the means and the ability to affect an intangible piece of software, and I'm simply asking for an administrative change on their end to reflect that.
Dell allows it, many other laptop assemblers do it, and it makes a difference in the final price of the notebook. HP's refusal is motivated by nothing other than greed, and it's unfair to call me a **** (or whatever was behind those stars) for wanting to exercise my right as a consumer. -
You can buy the HDX16t at Staples for $1,155.98.
http://www.staples.com/office/suppl...ies_1_10051_SC3:CG71:DP4118:CL161747#desclink
If you configure the SAME specs on HP's site it comes out to: $1,308.99 -
This is an interesting dilemma. If you buy a car with the intent to modify it albeit interior or exterior, are you entitiled to a refund for the parts that you don't want? I realize this is a different situation, but these computers are bundled with the OS and that's the way it is. I'm thinking that the EULA applies to a refund of the entire system, not just the OS itself. It would seem to me that if you configure and buy a notebook, you already know that the system is coming with Vista. And knowing that it comes with Vista, how can you complain later that you don't want it? The product has been presented to you, you accepted the presentation and purchased it, and now you want to alter the purchasing agreement. If you didn't want the OS you probably should have purchased from a vendor that would ship a blank system. Other vendor's may accomodate different buyers but clearly HP doesn't, so pursuing this further seems to be ignorant. Just my opinion. -
I'm with you on this apowers. Corporations should not be allowed to step over consumers.
And to anyone who is saying apowers is **** or watever or ignorant, you are just refusing your right to a product and bending over for the corporations.
I think HP has patched the WEI for video to show higher score than it actually gets form Vista. It may be to show the machine has higher than 5.0 WEI overall.
@Everyone who is frustrated about HP changing configurations everyday
I agree with all of you. It is pretty frustrating that HP is pulling this **** on the new line. It's like every few days they have something different. I can understand monthly, but not every 3 days.
I might end up returning my notebook after all. They are not price matching my exchange to my original purchase. The difference is not 20 or 30 dollars which I can handle but 240 dollars. My exchanged order has been put in wrong 3 times, so now I've got 1 order which successfully canceled, another one did not get canceled and shipped, along with the correct configuration for the exchange that shipped.
They have all the notes on the account for the amount they need to credit me back for the exchange, but are not willing to do it. I might just end up calling corporate headquarters and asking them for a solution. If no go, I'll be returning my notebook sadly and moving to a different company permanently for all future laptop/desktop/printer needs no matter how good the deals HP is having.
I would rather do business with a company which follows through their promises. -
-
If you aren't happy with the corporation, why not just boycott them? I would guess that most consumers do not have an extra copy of Vista or XP laying around, so to accomodate the very few that do not want an OS installed doesn't make much sense cost wise.
Furthermore, doesn't the EULA only allow for a purchased copy of vista to be installed on 1 system only? I believe there were complaints that MS also put in the EULA that any major component change like the MOBO would be considered a change in system and thus require the purchasing of another license. If that is correct, that would mean that you would could not just buy a copy of vista, and move that license over to another computer, even if you aren't using the old computer you originally installed it on. Now in your case, I'm not sure if you have or have not installed your copy of Vista on a computer already and I'm not going to make any assumptions, but I do wonder how many people here have a copy of vista that was never installed laying around. -
Can we take this EULA argument to another thread? It effects more than just the HDX16t, after all.
