Ok guys....have you ever heard of this? I wrote to CoolmaxUSA's support team asking them why their HD enclosure's eSata wasn't working (this is my second unit) They blamed it on Vista! Below is their actual response:
This guy must be kidding me...You would think that a company that makes enclosures- would know if their item works or does not work with vista. I hate idiots... I have decided not to worry about it- I mean...as of right now- USB 2.0 is cabable of up to 420mb/sec which is fast enough- I just get angry that i'm having to settle. Has anyone heard of this type of issue with Vista?

Is the RAM on the 9600GT DDR2 or DDR3?

tv tuner is pretty incredible to get an over the air hd signal and watch an hd football game. Quality is impressive. not sure how powerful the antenna is, as I really only played around with it for a few minutes.

i'll let you know by tommo.

i went to check out the hdx today at future shop (canada) and they had the 18" edition. its a beauty i mean the screen with the flush glass is amazing and makes framed screens look like crap as well as the amazing colour and high resolution on the screen i mean you could fit maybe 100 icons on that desktop! the imprint is really nice and makes the pavillion imprint look cheap (they had it next to a dv7). my only complaint from the short time i had with it was the touch pad, its pretty small compared to the laptop size and screen resolution and its pretty hard to use your finger usually gets stuck halfway through a scroll.

In any case, I purchased my HDX about a month ago and at the time I had a stackable coupon so I only paid about $185 for it. Plus I had the link for cashback from Live.com for an additional 20% so that brought it down even more.
Speaking of live.com and cashback, they now have a 25% cashback offer for HP. Can't paste the link at the moment but if you go to live.com and search for +cheap laptop you will see it on the right side links. Might not be on the first page though so you may have to click thru a couple to find it. Everyone has told me that this doesn't work if you use a coupon, but they haven't canceled mine yet so I am keeping my fingers crossed. I figure that The coupons are probably going to total more than that, especially with the 30% off. I would still take the chance and try to use live.com for the extra 25%, what do you have to lose? -

it's actually DDR3 according to NVIDIA (see below)
-
I see they now have the 7200 RPM drives available from HP. Frustrating, I actually call them and they said they were not supported by this model. They are such freakin idiots, I think just make crap up as they go along.
Anyone upgraded? performance improvement worth the cost? -
I'm holding off HDD upgrade until next year and then will go with one of the new Intel SSD's. IMO getting a higher rpm HDD is not worth the trouble - though it would be a performance boost and many have gone this route.
-
I recently purchased a HDX 16. I have a couple of questions. One, I had to set the trackpad to it's most sensativesettign to get any kind of decent response out of it. Is it generally that unresponsive? Also, how accurate does the space bare tend to be? I seem to have times when the space bar doesn't function from one to two or three times in a row. is this to be expected? Does the keyboard require sending in the laptop for replacement?

Hello iam having serious issues with my hdx16 this morning with my images on differerent websites for some reason they look much smaller then they did on my 19inch flatscreen moniter i had on my desktop. Is there anyway to resize how your images look like or something?Everything is working great internet wise but the small images are tough to get use to.
Please let me know if i can adjust the image sizes. Thanks sooo much.Adrian -

i tried reading as many pages of this as i could and found nothing but the laptop mag review. is there anyone who is working on, or has done, a review here for the hdx16? searching here and online it seems this thing doesnt exist lol. I know its similar to the hdx 18 but it would be nice to get input on this since it is a diff machine. maybe a comparison of the two resolution screen at this size as well as heat and noise compared to a dv5t or something. oh well....
EDIT: this site's review format is so much better than other sites out there IMO from the reading to the REAL world pics. -
oh, most CSRs are truly idiots, when I tried to get the price matched for my laptop to the one i had exchanged, the lady told me the configuration had been changed. My original purchase had "Intel 5100 + Bluetooth" and the new one has "Intel Next-Gen WiFi + Bluetooth". And this was the supervisor on the floor. -
I was thinking about the DV7t, but I am a bit more partial to the HDX16. The HDX18 is still too big to lug around and the HDX16 seems just right. Now that they finally added the 7200rpm drives I am giving the HDX16 greater consideration. Is the touch pad much smaller than that of th DV7t? I also heard a rumor that the HDX16 will be offered with a non infinity option? I raeally don't like the infinty since I sent back my DV7t for that reason.
-
does HDX16t have MXM slot ?
-
I've set my font DPI to 120. Although there is the occasional web site that does not like this, I have usually been able to adjust IE8 View settings to compensate.
In general, I've not been having text display problems with anything else. 96DPI is just too small on a 1080p screen. -
-
-
nobody knows if HDX16t is equipped with MXM Port ?
please help...i really want to know this before i order one. -

SSD's are nice- however I haven't been too impressed with performance until Intel came out with one. I may buy one later down the road- This drive will wear out one day- and when it does- the prices of the ssd's would hopefully be way down by that time.
IMHO I do not think it's worth the $50 upgrade for the 7200rpm drive. For $29 more you get a 16mb cache and you get to keep your old hard drive. I would opt for the smallest 5400rpm drive and do like I did. It cost $79 for the drive (for a 250gb- I didn't need a lot of HD space- besides if I need extra storage- I now have an external drive) and $15 for the enclosure. However I now have an external HD as well for about $100. (if you price 100gb externals- you are paying about that anyhow- and I have a 320gb externalwhich has 3 x's more storage space- for the same price.) -
Is it true that around Christmas they will offer the HDX16t with non infinity?
-
Do yours HDX16t's show the time remaining while running on battery, guys? I can't find the solution to make mine to show the time remaining while running on a battery... It is very strange...

Hey all, thinking of getting an HDX16. Few questions though:
1) How is the heat when gaming, say compared to the dv5t?
2) I've seen different posts, so can someone confirm if the 900m gt is ddr2 or ddr3?
3) How is the build quality?
4) Will they be offering it without the infinity display?
Thanks. -
2. It is DDR2. see the post like 10 pages back where I posted GPU-z screenshot.
3. Build quality is solid compared to some of the other laptops I've seen. They've seem to fix few issues from earlier HDX16ts. Keyboard flux by F8-F9 key, popped out Memory/HDD cover from a corner. These have been fixed, or maybe they are putting more time into building these.
4. What will they offer next...only HP Knows. They seem to be having new options every few days. -
Thanks for the answers.
But in general, how is the heat when gaming? And are the touch-sensitive buttons jumpy, or do they work well? -
The volume bar would've been much better if it was only lighted depending on the volume. 50% volume - First half Lighted, 25% volume - First quarter lighted etc.
There is a quite a bit of heat, but thats expected as its a dedicated video card, with t9400. If you have an older laptop with P4/P3, it is less heat. If you have a laptop with low voltage processors, its more heat. But it all depends on which processor you pick. -
Has anyone tested out the 6 cell and 12 cell batteries under "normal" usage, videos, etc to see how long they truly last? I am finding it hard to believe the 12 cell can go 5-8 hours per the HP site. I think My 6 cell was dying in an hour and a half or less.
-
I've never found any manufacturers claim to be actually true. Same goes for cell phone batteries, mp3 players, and so on. -
so i finally ordered my very own hdx16 with 2.53ghz processor, 3gb ram, 64bit vista, BD-drive etc and i cant wait to get it. how much on average does it take to actually arrive at your doorstep? also how are your experiences with battery life for those who take the laptop with them to school/work?
-
I ordered mine on Nov 6,
Hp gave me a build date of Nov 17
and it is being delivered today. Would of had it yesterday had I been home. -
Heat issue WAY better than the dv5t, lol I only had a dv5t for 1 day honestly before it broken(screen died or gpu died) and just being on the internet it got considerably warm, and playing a movie on it got SUPER hot, however with the hdx16t surfing the web it doesnt even get warm, and playing a movie it gets reasonably warm... now playing call of duty 4 it gets "very warm", but not "hot" after 30 minutes-hour

xool xongrats. i was pondering getting one but still waiting for a review lol
-
I ordered on Nov 6, and received it on Nov 17, I was so excited!
I just rechecked my configuration on HP's site and noticed for the same price I paid, I can get a 7200rpm 320gb hdd now instead of the 5400rpm 320gb hdd that I have. The customer rep told me I can either:
1) Return the one I have right now, then they send me another one with the faster hdd.
2) Purchase another notebook w/the faster hdd and return this one when I receive that one, but that means I'll have $1300 held in the bank for days.
3) Get a free printer worth about $80-90.
4) Get a credit of $70 back to my card.
I chose option 4. Do you think I made the right choice? I'd really like the faster hdd, and would've paid extra for it, but it wasn't available as an option when I ordered online.
The HDX16 looks great, but I actually prefer the silver finish on the dv5t than the dark grey finish on this one. -
Considering the fact that 7200 drives are pretty cheap thru newegg or tiger direct, I'd say you made the right decision. I wish I would have bought mine with the cheapest drive available and upgraded myself.

there aren't any secret screws or anything. -
why is this thread dead?? people that got the laptop post some pics or vids or talk about it for gods sake!
-
oh and i have a question, supposedly i ordered an hdx16 today and the estimated build date was by 2nd of december and i wanted to cancel the order. would that be possible?
-
call them and they will cancel it.
-
this is the resolution dept. number and they can cancel your order. -
Hi guys, does anyone know if this there is any comparable 30% off or $500 off coupon or discount code for an hdx 18 or 16 like there was a while ago (11.12.2008)?
I am looking at grabbng one of these hdx 18 nits asap since my old hp died on me. Please shoot me a mail if you know of anyhting like this or if one is coming soon ie-black friday or cyber monday timeframe?
Thanks! -
Thanks! -
I went through all the Vista tweaks listed elsewhere and found them to be uneccessary - if not in some cases detrimental. The HDX has enough power to handle all Vista features with no noticable performance degredation and seems to boot fastest in 'normal startup' mode. With some unecessary services disabled, it only reduced idle memory usage by about .15 gigs on average, which is nothing on a 4gig setup. I do have remote access, remote desktop, and tablet PC features disabled - other services not needed seem to stop running on their own anyway.
Once I found my way around Vista, I prefer it over XP and have found it to be more stable with better networking, and more appealling overall. Yes, Vista uses more resources than XP, but this lappy has more than enough power to handle it with ease.
I have installed the latest video drivers - can't say that I have noticed any real performance difference in normal use, MS Office, web, etc.. I have the 1080p monitor and set the default font size to 120DPI - I have not found this to be a problem in general use though some web sites need to get up to speed (and those I have been able to correct in IE8 view settings).
HD Video looks great! I use my laptop as my entertainment center when camping/boating.
IMO the HDX16t is near perfect in stock form as far as current state of the art is concerned, offers a nice balance between size and portability, and is the first laptop that I have been able to accept as a serious replacement to my aging desktop. All it needs IMO to get noticably faster than it is already is an Intel SSD.
If I were buying today, I'd order it with the T9600, the cheapest HDD (to be replaced soon with an SSD), the cheapest RAM config (to be replaced with 4gigs of aftermarket RAM at a lower cost), and then add any other options you want from HP. If you need more archive disk space for movies, etc, set up a home wireless network drive instead of carrying it around with you all the time. I find RAID schemes unecessary (a potential feature of the HDX18t to the detriment of power consumption and portability) and I simply back up critical data (Quickbooks files, etc.) with a flash drive - again, I believe an SSD offers a better solution for performance, dependability, portability, and battery life over any conventional HDD setup.
So that's my opinion in the smallest nutshell I can muster. I'm very pleased with the HDX16t. -
