I received my HDX18t last week and so far I'm not too happy with it. I watch Netflix movies online and my HDX18t keeps crashing big time, the bluescreen crash. I've been told the problem is with Microsoft's Silverlight program that Netflix requires you to download to watch movies but I'm not sure that is the problem. Is anyone else having this problem? I downloaded updated drivers and did windows update but it still crashes. I have an old Gateway laptop and it plays the movies using the Silverlight program with no trouble.

following the money once again, the best tech support you will get here will be from netflix (they are the ones who stand to lose the monthly contract with you if it doesn't work). that said, are they being helpful?

the hp bloat that gets loaded on these things from the factory is outrageous, and i know you don't want to hear it, but all the apps and extras they add to vista,(which is ridiculous in it's own right) makes the thing very prone to this kind of inexplicable random problem. (could be anything) i would reload vista from scratch if you can. not just for this problem, but basic sanity. i would offer more help, but i am no longer using vista.

I haven't called Netflix, from what I understand they refer you to microsoft and microsoft doesn't offer support or any fixes yet.

    Thanks in advance...

I've been watching this forum since I got my HP HPX 1201EA a couple of weeks ago, and have got some great stuff from it, but I'm having issues with the Blu Ray player, wondered if anyone had a solution?

When the autorun comes on the only option is to play it with HP MediaSmart (as I understood this was the only was to play BDs), but then it says the format isn't supported. Any ideas?

Yep those updates did it, though something MediaSmart did stop playing and I reinstalled it through System Restore as well. Thanks for the advice.

    Thanks.

One of the Newegg reviewers pointed out that there is also a anti-shock version whose model number ends with AGS instead of AS.

anyways, couple questions. I've been looking at mice for the hdx, i see they have a bluetooth and a usb wireless mouse that matches the computer. Does it matter which way I go? I'd prefer bluetooth so I don't have to use up a usb port.

Also, I've been looking for a new router at home. Anyone have any suggesstions as to any certian kind that works well with this computer? I've been using a Linksys Wireless-N Broadband Router WRT160N for my office. Works pretty great. Whats the difference between that router and Linksys Wireless-N Gigabit router WRT310? Would either of these options be alright?

sorry for the lame questions, but thanks for all the help. I can't wait to get this bad boy

I can't get my TV tuner to work properly yet on Windows 7 RC1 either.

Another quick question, is anybody setup to login using their fingerprints on the Windows 7 RC1 side?

Everything else works really really good. I actually don't boot into my Vista Ultimate side anymore unless I want to watch TV while I work. I originally thought I would only "play" on the W7 side and do serious work on the VU side.

Ok, Thanks! - that helped alot.

I now have my fingerprint reader working in Windows 7 RC1. The only weird thing is now it takes longer to logon or logoff and whenever I successfully login, this windows notification message appears in my taskbar:

Failed to connect to a windows service

Windows could not connect to the System Event Notfication Services service. This problem prevents standard users from logging on to the system. As an adminstrative user, you can review the System Event Log for details about why the service didn't respond.

Any ideas on why it's throwing that error?

Can someone try to increase your video card temp to 76-78 degree using a normal benchmark, like furmark, and tell me if they hear a strange noise coming from the fan increasing its speed?

I just tried to burn a blu ray disc on my blu ray burner using a Verbatim BD-R, and I get the message, "file system not compatible with disc" or some such. I tried formatting the disc, but I get the same message. Do I need to download an update? What am I doing wrong?

I have found the best mouse to go along with my HDX18. I already own a Logitech MX5500 Mouse / Keyboard combination and it occurred to me the included MX Revolution mouse is a Bluetooth version.

It works perfectly for the HDX because you don't need a dongle ( I use my built in BT), and you get a high quality laser mouse that is made for power users ( great for a power laptop like the HDX18 ). Not to mention I only have to charge it every 3 - 4 weeks.

I now throw the Revolution MX Mouse (BT ver.) in my Mobile Edge laptop case wherever I go. ( I kept the bluetooth dongle and keyboard attached to my desktop computer ). Just wanted to bring that attention if you happen to have a MX5500 set laying around because it works great and I lose usb dongles when I carry them with laptops.

If you ordered it from HP, they should have an estimated build date on your order on their website. It's about 10 to 14 days.

A quick question on my new 18t. System information shows:

    Installed physical memory 8gb
    Total physical memory 4gb
    Available physical memory 6.51gb

I understand the "available" difference, but why is the "Total" less than "Installed"?

I believe its because its a 32bit app. that MS never fixed. Try running systeminfo.exe from the command prompt. systeminfo.exe is a 64 bit app.

BTW, I figured this out. It was never the fingerprint reader causing problems in W7. It was the IDT Audio driver. The second I removed it everything worked great. For now with windows 7 I would recommend using the default driver for the audio and staying away from the IDT driver/software package.

If after you install you get "detecting reader" at your login screen (this is what happened with me at first ) delete the "validity sensor" driver from device manager, then run a "detect hardware changes" scan from Device Manage. Reader is functional immediately after the install.

    Found the solution here:
    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/psg/board/message?message.uid=61954

Figured out IDT was breaking W7 here:
    http://windows7forums.com/windows-7-hardware/3847-hp-hdx-x16-1160us.html

    fingerprint reader software here:

    Hey guys

I bought a HP HDX X18-1299EB Premium Notebook PC yesterday.

After a clean install I seem to be unable to find some drivers to make the following work:

    -Remotes not working
-When changing volume or bass I don't get any visual thing.. With factory default OS I had a black box popping up showing me if I were increasing or decreasing.
-when activiting numlock, shiftlock etc I don't get any 'warning'
    - audio seems to be sounding awfull when I put it to max, is it just the notebook or a bad driver?

    Ty in advance :)

Install the HP quick launch buttons software.

What did you play to say that the audio is bad? Speakers aren't supposed to give the best audio at 100% anyway.

    Hi,

I get this message when I boot up my HDX 18t

"HP MediaSmart TV Resident Program has stopped working..."

Any idea why this is happening? Did any of you come across this situation?

    Thanks

Just playing some MP3 files with a bitrate of 320kbps. It just doesn't sound clear when it plays certains high levels of volume. It's hard to explain but it sound like overkilling the speakers, they sound vibrating when the song or other audio (movies) hit a certain amount of dB or frequency.

Maybe i understood, it happens with MSN Messenger audio if the bass\trebble volume is too high. I think that the subwoofer sometimes makes too many vibration, try to adjust the equalization.

Edit: Well tested it a bit and with some frequency it just vibrate a bit and a strange sound, it does seem to come from the upper right of the keyboard. Thinking that is something like a design issue with the case more than a driver problem.

    Need more information to help.

You say normal dvd, but then you say you are trying to boot to it?

What is it you are trying to burn, or does this happen all the time?

Have you tried copying the error message into google? (exactly as it shows up) - since I don't use ultraiso. I use Isobuster. Are you using Vista as installed by HP, or have you ran a new install, and is it Vista 64?

you can change you keyboard layout from control pannel > regional option

or you can right click on the taskbar > toolbars > language bar

No S-video/TV Out, Only HDMI and a monitor port for video output.

Wow, is this a long thread to go through...

So I'm thinking of trading in my dv7 for the HDX18, but I'm unsure if I should stick with the T9550 or spend the extra $250 on the Q9000. For moderate video work with several apps running and light gaming (mainly WoW), what would suit me? And speaking of gaming, I'm suffering with an Nvidia 256MB (9200M I believe) graphics card, and I wanted to upgrade to the 1GB 130M. With my current card, I can't even run WoW at medium settings without choppiness, and forget about 25-man raids. The video slows down so much, I can barely play the game with all those characters on screen at the same time. At its best, I'm getting 30fps. I'm assuming the 130M will be adequate, but I just wanted to get some feedback from those who have played similar games with it.

Lastly, can you turn off the backlit keyboard? It seems like an awesome feature, but something I wouldn't need all the time.

    Thanks in advance!
