I've looked through all of these links and the only problem now is picking between the Mobile Edge Alienware Orion Backpack and the HP 20" Roller Case for Notebook PCs. The HP Rolling case is 10$ less than the Alienware Backpack; however, I just love backpacks.
By the way, can anyone check out my first post on me buying an hdx18t?
-
Does someone know how much longer I might expect the 12-cell battery to last? Is it double what I'm getting now?
The 12-cell was not available when I purchased the HDX-18. Below is an image of what's available when ordering the HDX18 now.

Also, check out this bag. It's the one I use, and I love it for carrying my books and my HDX18. Even if I'm not carrying my laptop, it's still great for a college bag.
-
Mike, I am wondering if that is referring to HP's new Enviro Battery.
If so, it's still an 8-cell. -
I'm not quite sure a 12-cell is what the "Long-Life Battery" means. That picture is just a reference for general batteries. It does not specificaly state that the picture is related to what is being offerred, and in fact we know that at least half of it does not relate at all. The standard battery for the HDX18 is the 8-cell Lithium Ion battery. The two batteries shown in the picture are a 6-cell and 12-cell. An 8-cell is not pictured.
Also, when I ordered my laptop from HP last month, the second battery option wasn't called "Long-Life Battery", but rather "HP Enviro Long-Life Battery". They might have just shortened the name to put more consumer emphasis on the long-life part.
I did order the Enviro Series battery, and I posted about it HERE. -
Thanks, Haneyg. I was suckered in by the generic photo.

Cost is out of my league at the moment. Is there any place to buy it cheaper? If not, could you help me pick between the Alienware bag and the HP Bag and in the meantime give me some feedback on my to-be laptop specs located on the page before?
By the way do you have an msn that we can talk on? -
Dumb question here, but does anyone know of any HDX18T upgrades HP will bring in the near future? Like a matte screen instead of the glossy one? Graphics card upgrade? Anything? The Bing cash back double offer come August is very interesting so I'm waiting until then. I did notice they have an "extended" battery now which is cool and long deserving. I know you have to pull the plug at some point, but just don't want to buy and see some better options out the next week. Thanks.
-
Hey paco do you have a MSN? We can talk about the sales in August because I'm in the same position as you. I was thinking of buying last week when I had a $309 coupon but decided to wait till August. I didn't want to go crazy if HP offered more sales on August and bought in July or didn't buy in July and HP did not offer sales in August. I can't find the Message button on any of the profiles!
-
Unfortunately I don't have MSN. I see the HP Bing cash back is 5% I think now, so if it doubles to 10% without any other coupons it's not that great of a deal. Without a doubt I'm hoping for a 30% coupon AND some decent Bing cash back. I'm not going to lie, I just "rented" a DV7-2173cl from Costco for the time being. My buddy works there and said it's no biggie at all to buy the "display" model and then return it. I wouldn't do that with a regular shelf model. But he works there and suggested it, so I went for it. I really like this machine, but want the monster. I'm not taking it anywhere so the bigger the better. I just hooked up MLB.TV via HDMI to my 40" LCD and was absolutely shocked at the great quality!!!!! I won't do much with this rental computer since I'll be returning it.............but so far if the 18" is equal to this 17.3" I'll be VERY happy. I'm very impressed with the quality of this model. I can only imagine the HDX line is a little "better".
As I said in my post, I'd hate to buy something and see a "newer" model or upgrades come weeks later. Hence why I asked if there are any upcoming upgrades that HP will offer. If there are not, no biggie. I'm sure I'll be happy. If there are, of course I wouldn't mind waiting to purchase. Time will tell I guess.

By the way what are your specs for your laptop? Mine are...
*Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (64-bit)
*Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor T9900 (3.06 GHz, 6 MB L2 Cache, 1066MHz FSB)
*4GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm) - For 1GB Nvidia GeForce GT 130M
*1TB 7200RPM SATA Dual Hard Drive (500GB x 2) with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
*1GB Nvidia GeForce GT 130M - For DDR3 Memory
*18.4" diagonal High Definition HP Ultra BrightView Infinity Display (1920x1080p)
*Lightscribe Blu-Ray ROM with SuperMulti DVD+/-R/RW Double Layer

*Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card
*No TV Tuner w/remote control
*Full Size Backlit Keyboard
*8 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
*No Productivity Software
*HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope
With the coupon (NBZ2897) I get a total of $1,847.99 (Tax/Handling) How about you? If Bing actually gets HP's cash back to 30% I'll get $554.40 off! Currently at 5% cash back, I get $92.40 off. So I'm really hoping for it to go up to 30% like you. Have you have any experience with Bing with HP ever going up to 30%? This is the first time I've heard of Bing but it sounds like a worthwhile thing if I can save $500. -
jkxs you should DEFINITELY wait for the 30% coupon because look at this.
I purchased this laptop on the 26th of June and recieved it about a week ago.
HP HDX18t Premium Series customizable Notebook PC
* • Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (64-bit)
* • Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Extreme Mobile Processor QX9300 (2.53Ghz, 12MB L2 Cache, 1066MHz FSB)
* • 4GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm) - For 1GB Nvidia GeForce GT 130M
* • 500GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
* • 1GB Nvidia GeForce GT 130M - For DDR3 Memory
* • 18.4" diagonal High Definition HP Ultra BrightView Infinity Display (1920x1080p)

* • Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card
* • No TV Tuner w/remote control
* • Full Size Backlit Keyboard
* • 8 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
* • No Productivity Software
* • HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope
All of that was $2,634.99 but it went down to $1,844.49 (Including tax and everything) after the coupon
CHA CHING!
-
Oh my Goodness! How did you do that!? I am willing to give up the 1TB memory for 500GB if I can get that Extreme Processor
-
Okay, for clarification:
The 30% off coupon is from HP directly and is not related to Bing at all. To my knowledge the 30% off coupon was offered twice in recent times, but nothing at the moment is *currently* being offered.
Also, according to Bing Cashback rules, any purchase made while using coupons renders the entire purchase ineligible for cashback. I have heard stories of some shady people being able to cheat the system, but officially you cannot combine coupon offers with cashback. It's an either/or deal only.
That being said, I strongly recommend you wait for another 30% off coupon from HP. It was offered twice in recent times and both occasions brought in high sales for HP, so it is hopeful they will offer it again. Cross your fingers because that 30% coupon will save you much, much more than Bing Cashback ever could. -
Was that 30% coupon offered about 2 weeks ago because I might have gotten it but decided to wait...
-
Did the 30% coupon work with the instant rebate offers? Right now I found an extra $200 off on top of the $250 instant rebate, so I'm getting about 29% total off, so I'm not sure if I should wait for the 30% coupon to hopefully come back with in the next week or two when I need to order a computer by.
-
I ordered mine a few days ago and I need to know if there is a difference between the hdx18t and the hdx18t Premium series.
-
The HDX18T/HDX18T Premium is one that is customized. The HDX18-1180us might have been the one you bought which is a pre-built model/is not customizable. They are both the same laptop (HDX18T) but one is just customized and one isn't.
*I asked HP Custo Service on this one so...
Link Custo Service gave to compare the HDX18T and the HP HDX 18-1180us Entertainment Notebook
http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/s...=&printerOrCartridgeSearch=&searchQuery=hdx18 -
The instant rebates and coupons don't work together.
-
What do you mean?
-
I bought mine online from costco and I customized it
-
Well if it says INSTANT REBATE -$300, and then you type in the 30% off coupon, it takes off whichever gives you a cheaper price.
-
Oh well that coupon says it's stackable. The 30% coupon is not stackable, otherwise I would've gotten my $2700 laptop for like $1500.
-
This is correct, the 30% off coupon is NOT stackable.
-
I don't use MSN, just Yahoo.
I am not sure between those two bags. It's really up to your preference. Some say they don't like having the Alienware logo because they fear it will attract more theft since it's a gaming brand.
Yeah, The bag I have is about $120, I haven't seen it cheaper anywhere else either.
Specs look good, though I'd wait for a $400 off or 30% off coupon.
I got my HDX18t for $1,200 then I also got an additional $100 back since they price-match for 21 days after your purchase.
I found a better coupon after I had already ordered and received mine. So keep an eye out even after you order, because if you find they put another coupon that is better out, then they will honor it if you call them before it expires. -
What color is the hdx18t? In reviews I see it like a grayish color with lines going through. But on hp with screen shots its black with lines. It has the same design as regular hdx18ts but its black. Its the preimun series a black color or what?
-
It's not black, but not gray either. I'd call it a gun-metal color with aesthetic silver lines streaking and looping through and around the palmrests of the laptop.
It's actually really nice, I was surprised by how sophisticated it made everything look. -
There's not much of a risk in waiting unless one needs to buy now. You may or may not remember, but on Black Friday HP through MSN Live had 40% off. It was so popular their servers went down. I don't know if this event will be the same. I think it's worth it to wait. But for sure if you don't need to buy now, why not delay your purchase? The 30% off coupons are every month and are a good deal on their own. IF the Bing discount is off the charts at 40% then it's a great time to buy. I don't know about a shady deal. 40% off was offered on BF. Nothing shady going on there. We shall see what comes. It should be interesting that's for sure. I absolutely will wait. I suggest those that can wait as well. That's just me though.

Thank you both for your wonderful advice
By the way, Rageman, I also thought that having an Alienware bag would attract more theft and confusion if someone asked me what kind of Alienware laptop I'd have and I would pull out an HP. I'll keep a look out for that bag, it sure looks great for school, but then again, I don't think I'll bring this to school because of the possiblility of theft/accidents (I'm in Highschool not College
)
-
Oh and this is another question. Is the screen curved? because I hear that some reviews say its not straight and doesnt level with the down part
-
I hadn't heard that... my screen is flat and straight just for the record; no curves.
-
Yeah the screen is perfect! I love the fluid finish. It's the best I've ever seen on a Laptop.
-
Ok so the screen isnt curved?
-
Flat screen, no curve.
-
He's referring to that YouTube video where the guy is complaining the laptop lid does not close down flush on the machine, it lifts up in the corner.
-
I actually havent seen that video. It was different one. Where can I find that video about the guy complaining?
-
Pretty sure it's Underdog's Video Review.
LINK -
This is an independent case though, I don't experience this with my laptop, nor have I seen it on any other HDX18.
-
Right, be clear that Underdog's Laptop was defective and he did have it replaced.
-
He had about a hundred things wrong with his, some refurb scratch and dent model.
-
New BIOS out for some 18" models F24
-
Does updating the BIOS really make much of a difference to the laptop? I honestly haven't done it once for my HDX 18t....
Also has anyone been as frustrated with HP's "HP Update" program? Everytime I start up my laptop it says it's got important updates from HP specifically. It then asks my permission to start. I say yes. It starts and downloads everything but just as it finishes downloading it CRASHES completely and says "update failed"
It's getting annoying...especially since this update it keeps freaking out about has to do with HP printer update. If anyone knows a fix for this it would be greatly appreciated. -
I just got mine yesterday. Although not as bad as some, my did have some physical defect. The plastic trim next to the number pad is broken. It appears that the tab that attaches the trim to the chassis was broken/snapped. I took a video to show you guy what I am talking about.

I bought mine brand new sealed from eBay. I tried to get it repaired but it is still under the original buyer's name. I'm in the process of transferring the registration to my name so that I can set up the repair myself. -
Hey all I just bought this model (18t). I am really happy with the specs. 8 gigs ddr3 320X2 7200 hdds and the 2.0 quad core with a bluray drive. I payed 1800 no tax and free shipping. I have two issues.....well not really issues but I like to nitpick. Number one is It stops wireless connecton out of the blue for no reason. Doesnt give any errors. I just tap the wireless quick button and its all good. It does it alot. Anyone know what the problem is? Is it Vista maybe? ASLO the small led above the mouse pad has the paint around it missing. The led is square but the hole around it is a tad larger looking if that makes any sense lol. Everything else is awsome. I love it. I popped in a bluray and it didnt look to great. But this is a laptop and I am used to watching my blurays on a new Samsung 46 inch led panel. I havnt had the time to read through all the posts bu I will. Everyone else happy with thiers? Cheers!

Well for the wifi problem go to power settings, then go to advanced and change the wifi signal to maximum

**IMPORTANT UPDATE**
The HP Windows 7 Upgrade program is now up and running for the HDX18T series of notebooks!
Although previously available, the HDX18T series product line was not being accepted as a valid purchase for the upgrade plan. HP has since reviewed its list of valid products and notified Arvato (company in charge of distributing HP upgrade kits) of the addition of the HDX18T notebook line for eligible upgrade kits.
(I myself completed the ordering of the upgrade kit 10 minutes ago)
Upgrade Plan Details:
For new HP notebooks purchased after June 26th pre-installed with Windows Vista you are eligible for a FREE like-for-like Operating System Upgrade to Windows 7 after its October 22nd release.
For more information please visit this site: http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/mda/windows7/index.html?jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN -
anyone else have the led above the mouse pad missing paint around the led?
-
Please share how you are planing to change the registration to your name? I also recently bought a brand new HDX18T from ebay seller so I guess it's in his name atm...
-
You can only register for your Windows 7 Upgrade from the 1st of August, so it's not available just yet!
