    Got this reply from Ryan:

We might be able to build with the Quad processor if you are willing to wait.

Well, thanks to Lancorp stating what he got from HP, I emailed Ryan and he gave me the same... 200.00 off for price protection and 75.00 off due to the processor. so 275.00 off after it ships.

but NOW i hear about the notebooks MAY be shipping with the Qx9300???
    COME ON!!!
they already cancelled my order so I am most likely screwed out of that option.

Ryan just emailed me the same "wait offer" so I emailed back stating if they could modify my current order and add the qx9300 i would gladly wait!
it would be -200.00 for price protection and +75 for the processor upgrade.

I got the $200 instant rebate, which I assume you guys are getting the refund for, so I'll be happy with the Quad for $1575 (lowest RAM and HD options). That's about what you guys paid right?

depending on when you purchased (mine and lancorps were purchased 10/6), the price dropped 200.00 since then, so that is where the refund "price protection" is coming from.
Ryan just emailed me stating he will contact me by the 24th with more information and if it will in fact be available.

thats the funniest line i ever heard of on this forum.
read from googled news, main stream mobile quad q9000 ( under 35w tdp) comes out at the end of december.
as far as qx9300 goes for hdx18t, just a marketing gimmick to get some free publiccity.

What a bunch of crap (as was stated earlier!). I just told them yesterday to continue my orders with the CPU downgrade, because there was no option for waiting. Now, it's probably too late to stop the downgrade, and I'm f*cked. I'm sure if they bring back the QX9300's it won't be at $225 more...and this whole clusterf*ck will feel more like bait-and-switch but have the illusion of just bad timing!

I've had 4 of these ordered and after all is said and done, none will be QUAD's!! Arrrggghhh!!!

I did email Ryan making it VERY clear, I WANT QUAD. We'll see.

Does that mean that it may be available ONLY for you all who already ordered it? Or do we all have a shot at it? Is there any chance that HP makes any of those new chips, including the T9800 available for the HDX 18?

I heard that the Core i7 processors will be available for desktops mid November, at pretty reasonable prices actually. Has anyone heard when Intel might be coming out with the first ones for notebooks?.

Hi, I've got the HDX18t, which has an Intel 5100 wifi 802.11n. I use a single Netgear WNHDEB111 as 5GHz 802.11n access point. Both of these supposedly support 300Mbit/s (gross rate) mode, which works by combining two channels. I only get 150MBit/s (gross rate) and it is using just 1 channel. Anyone know how to activate 300Mbit/s mode on the 5100? I think all my settings in the device mgr are ok. I need this to maintain sufficient net data rate for HD streaming when walking further from the access point with the HDX 18.

My guess is you need a MIMO (multi-antenna) setup to run on more than one channel, and the Intel card only has one antenna.

And I could be completely wrong, as the work I do with wireless does't involve 11n. That's just from what I know about multi-channel wireless setups.

    Just so ya know,

    4GB = $60 from NewEgg.

64 bit = backwards compatible with ALL apps, 95% of drivers.

That sucks. I was at the same spot you were one night a few days. I was so frustrated at the whole thing and found myself toying with the options on the dv7t. But ultimately I couldn't pull the trigger. After seeing the HDX 18t pics and vids I know that this is the laptop I want. Plus I like the design a whole lot better than the somewhat plain look of the dv*t series notebooks.

Anyways I'm hoping by November they have the Quad option back up. Hopefully at a REASONABLE price.

Backwards compatible, for apps, means they can run as if they are on a 32-bit system. Most apps these days do that on 64-bit systems anyway.

For drivers, it's a matter of what devices you are connecting to your HDX because that software needs to be written for a 64-bit system.

If you have any ExpressCard or FireWire devices, for example, you should check with the vendor to see if they supply a 64-bit version of their product drivers. Most generic USB devices will be fine.

If you don't have any fancy peripherals that you're not sure about, get 64-bit.

Welcome to the wonderful, frustrating world of Wireless-N!

Unfortunately, with combos of wireless adapters and routers/AP's, you can play all day with the settings and never get the 40Mhz (300Mbps) setting to work. Alot of it has to do with compatibility between manufacturers, and not about the number of antennas. You should be able to get channel bonding at 40Mhz (300Mbps) with two antennas. I've certainly done it.

I don't know if you'll ever get your Netgear working. A little research shows that has been out a while and probably doesn't contain the latest hardware.

Your best bet is to do some research and see who is getting the new Intel wireless cards working at 300Mbps and what router/AP they are using.

Heck, even my D-link DIR-655 used to work at 300Mbps with another Dell notebook that I used to have, but for the life of me, I cannot get it to do that anymore with any of my current N-enabled notebooks.

    It's frustrating. I think that's why it's still called draft-N!!

I was able to get my blu ray to play through my tv but when i was on the regular desktop the screen ratio was off, i couldn't see the borders of the screen, i went into the hp mediasmart or whatever and did what the instructions told me but their was no option for screen ratio where it said it would be. Is there any other way to format the screen. I have a 1080p tv so it should be fine...

I agree! My D-Link Xtreme N Gaming Router would go 100mb/s with a USB adapter from D-Link. But my DV7T will only show 65mb/s through the included wireless card. Although the performance is the same. So the meter reads low but the internet still blazes!

First of all, find a second hard drive bracket :)

I'd say, completely uninstall anything that isn't obviously important. Set a restore point and uninstall away... if anything goes wrong, start over.

You can not install another HDD unless you have the F***ing adapter cable from sata to what ever the jack on the mobo is. HP evidently does not want you to touch to any screws on this computer. To be able to replace the CPU you have to take the whole computer apart. I wish I had a service manual on this thing. Anybody???

This is the first I've heard about an adapter cable. I know a bracket is required, but please elaborate on what adapter is required.

I find it hard to believe there's a proprietary connector for the hard drive in there.

You still haven't really elaborated. What is the "adapter"? Maybe we could see a picture?

I still don't buy it- HP would either be paying a LOT more for hard drives specific to their connectors, or paying more for a useless adapter.

Picture was added to the initial post about this adapter. See the hookups to the mobo right next to the hdds. There is an adapter where one side goes to the HDD SATA port and the other goes to the port on the mobo.

You can RAID through esata. You can add more HDD space but not performace. Technically you are not even upgrading the computer in anyways.

After all this crap, I'm willing to go pay 5K for a Dell.

im a newb with the lingo but i think you explained yourself, raid means space and performance is pertaining to rpm. If im correct then wouldnt adding space ease the pc somehow by not having to search through so much or something... even without increasing rpm more space should increase performance no? And yea, hp is getting a call tonite about all of this

Think like this. Each HDD you have can send 10mb data per second. Now with raid two HDDs can send 20mb per second data. This is not always 2 times but close. That is how the performace of the HDD increases. With 1 hdd and an external HDD, all of your programs will be called from the internal one at 10mb/sec and the external hdd will have a seperate accesing time since it will not be running all the time which will delay the processes. Plus usb 2.0 is not even close to the sata transfer speeds. Esata is close but not the same.

With this kind of hardware setup there is not much that you can do. Yeah, a fresh install may help but not a lot. Plus so many thing on this computer work with specific software, I wouldn't advice you to uninstall things you are not sure.
