Uh...it's the 20th, not the 18th today....Did you fall asleep on the 17th and just wake up?![]()

the forum date said 18
ah well, at least I'm not totally insane. -
Just saw this while browsing around: http://www.ubergizmo.com/15/archives/2008/09/hp_hdx18_and_hdx16_notebooks_live_photos.html
There's a nice set of photos in the gallery linked in that post, too. -
Are the GPUs in HDX 16 and 18 DDR3 or DDR2??
-
2.0, I love it when you talk dirty!
[ Just kidding with you. I really appreciate reading all your very informative posts.] -
If the HDX18 comes out Mon or Tue, floors me **and** has some kind of discount available that puts it in ± $200-300 of our current DV7T I might consider an exhange. Our 21 days for an exchange ends next Friday.
To be honest I'm pretty happy with our DV7T - no heating issues, display looks amazing, it's a fantastic biz machine with "lite" personal use (we're not hardcore gamers, but plink around on occasion and appreciate the media center functions). -
The question being again how much better...
Oh and those pics look absolutely stunning... -
I sure wish HP would migrate to slot-load optical drives instead of the pop-out drawer style...those are so "yesterday".
All of Dell's new notebooks seem to be featuring slot-load drives. Apple only uses slot load. But not the brand new HP's... -
-
-
The latest slot load drives are very quiet. I have a new Dell Studio 15 and the slot load in that drive is just as quiet as a pop-out. I (and I would guess most other people), don't ever use those mini-discs, and if I were given one, once in a blue moon, I'd find another method of reading it (like my desktop). I wouldn't give up the ease and convenience of a slot-load for the rare occassion I would get a mini-cd. (As a matter of fact, I can't remember the last time I used one!).
Just the whole process of loading a CD is so archaic on the pop-outs. My guess is since Apple uses them 100% and Dell is using them in all new models, that it's a trend that people are accepting and liking.
My point was just that the other two major players in the industry have switched, but not HP... -
Oh please tell me they're going to have a non-Infinity option! The HDX16 doesn't at the moment, and it looks like the perfect machine except for that one thing. I just returned my dv7t too!
-
why wouldn't you want infinity view?
anywho, it seems that they're planning on AMD flavors, hence the new HDX16t title on their website (instead of HDX16) -
Just put up the **** 18t already HP....
-
maybe a midnight (EST) launch?
-
-
I'm gonna call HP this morning and see if the rep knows when they'll be releasing the HDX 18t...
As for infinity vs non infinity I'm not sure which is better. I got the infinity for my dv7t (which I'm planning on returning) but only cuz I thought it would look nicer and more professional. I'll need to go to a store and do a side by side to fully understand the differences if their are any major ones to begin with. -
Support for 7 pre-configured models are up, but still nothing for sale
-
And I'm really hoping they give us a lot of good options on this notebook to satisfy both gamer and non gamers around... -
I wish they would hurry up, I shipped my dv7t back today.
I really hope the colors with the HDX18 are nice... I'm going mac if I have to return it. -
I'm taking a nap...hopefully it's up there by the time I wake up...
And I'm kinda hoping that the HDX 18t offers a better graphics card since this line is supposed to be better than the dv7t. Or at least it should have the potential to be better otherwise why release it at all? -

It's up on the site!!
...just kidding.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
How many people are sitting there with the HP site loaded in another window/tab and hitting F5 every 20 minutes? I know I am!
-
that was not nice!
-
I'm trying to determine if I should even consider the HDX18 vs. the DV7T we currently have. This machine has run perfect, seems to run pretty cool, is a "regular" 17" size so it fits in our really killer Oakley bag (semi-snug so it wouldn't handle a much larger machine).
The screen resolution seems plenty good, we even upgraded to the 9600 card even though we likely won't do much gaming.
Any other major outstanding HDX based machine upgrades that might be worth considering? Any downsides? (Like power consumption, size). -
Originally I was okay with just the 9600M but now I feel that if I'm going to buy a whole new laptop that's from a different line that is supposed to be a little bit superior to the other lines they should offer better choices for the components of said laptop.
Therefore I agree with the others who think that HP should offer a better graphics card option.

DT, keep the dv7t. I would have, but my work requires good color. Like I said in the dv7t official owners forums, most casual users wont even notice it.
-
They've got the product demo up for the HDX18 but no HDX18

Good job -

Since it will be pretty light personal usage (web, video playback and maybe a few games, though we have like Wii and PS3 games sitting around unplayed), you're probably right about just keeping it. -

^ LOL - with the discounts you're gonna be getting, HP will probably start owing you $. LOL. start sending them invoices =p

^ LOL my point exactly. But then again, it's the catered to the same crowd that buys Hummers - they watch the hummer commercials where the trucks climb mountains and move the earth, yet they stay in freeway traffic and a plush driveway 99.99999999% of the time.
the only off-roading they do is when the driver hops onto the curb parallel parking ;-D -
we just gotta wait for them to kick the 9700t off of the lineup, and we're good to go.
Kind of sad, i have the original dv9xxx series laptop. HP design just keeps getting more and more amazing, doesn't it? -
-
What makes me sad is that I didn't buy more of the HDX20's right before they were discontinued. I did buy two extra's, and sold both of them in one day on ebay and made some substantial $$$. I normally don't think I could have made that kind of profit, but with them being discontinued, demand is high and people are buying whatever is out there! -
Well done! You're a clever bloke. I commend your nimbleness and ability to capitalize on a rare opportunity. -
Another day come and gone...without the HDX18 being launched. Does anyone have any *real* intel as to when they will be launched?
-
Unfortunately the sales reps don't know the release date either. Not that it's gonna stop me from calling every day
-
I'm calling to return and then ask about when it is coming out...
I think they're lying. What sorta company would not inform their sales people about the upcoming products they plan on selling? -
Nonetheless, today is my deadline to return the dv7t. I am still undecided but the clock is ticking... -
However I'm willing to wait just a bit longer so I make sure that I have the right laptop. I mean this is going to be a huge investment for me and I want to be absolutely sure that the laptop I buy is both excellent and what I want.
I don't want to suffer buyer's remorse and I already feel like that with the dv7t...
As for you it depends on whether you can live without a laptop for a few weeks. I would say YES return the dv7t. Cuz you know they're going to have some type of coupon that makes the price for the dv7t and the HDX 18t about the same...
Anyways calling HP right now... -
WOW! HP might have lost me.
Check out the Dell Precision Workstations coming out later this fall.
http://www.dell.com/content/topics/...en/precision_concept_jumppage?c=us&l=en&s=gen -
Plus these are meant to be business notebooks right? Most businessmen don't really care how their laptops look as long as they function good. So Dell is pretty much offering a really nice package.
Dell is trying. I'll give them credit for that. However their design department really needs to work harder on their consumer product line. The Studio desktops are all beautiful but the notebooks look fugly to me... -
Hmmm....
