I just tried it on my Bose QC3s and still got the same buzz that's really noticeable on the fingerprint login. I'm pretty sure it's also bad through the docking station's speakers too. Might be a driver issue.

Vistabad, are you on 32bit or 64bit?

Since you like Safari, you would probably like Chrome. Chrome is based off of Safari, so how ever a website would look/work on Safari, it should work the same on Chrome.

Well Ryan responded and lets just say that if he can deliver on what he said in the email I'll be very happy. Assuming the laptop works fine and nothing bad occurs...

Oh I do like Chrome, I just meant there's more that can be added to it, thus making it better later. Safari has gone through tons of revisions and addons and so on. Chrome is still so new afterall.

Well, currently I am using zd7000a notebook (17")with 3.2 G processor and 24 " monitor along with it.

It is handy when I am mobile. Just wondering if, this 18t with Dual 2.8 Processor enough for this purpose.

    Hello everyone
I'm also happy HDX18 owner but have some issues.
I did fresh install with Vista business SP1, than installed drivers in order:

    -Chipset (restart)
    -Video (restart)
    -SATA
    -Network
    -WLAN
    -BTOOTH
    -ProtSHD
    -Touchpad
    -Audio

    Other (not in Driver folder):
    -QPW
    -YouCam

    1. I have a strange exclimation next to DVB-T tuner. My system is in Polish so in entglish it means that "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)" - what is wrong??

    2. Is it necessary to instal in Vista Business any SATA drivers when everyting works fine with disks already ??

    3. My Quick Touch buttons are inactive - please eplain me what drivers or applications from webside should i install ?? Is it necessary to install all SwMedia parts or only some really necessary ??

    Thanks vistabad!

I have removed almost all stickers on my old laptop and I plan to do the same on the new HP18t I have already ordered. It should arrive next week.

    Just a stupid question:
If you remove the stickers, that doesn't affect the warranty, does it?
It would be very stupid if it does, but you never know.

Well, ok...you can't just put that statement out there an not tell us what Ryan is going to do for you. By the sound of it, you're getting something better than what you had (Quad?). C'mon...were all family here, no secrets!

He offered me to the opportunity to return the laptop I got with the non functioning speakers.

Then he said I could reorder an 18t with the Quad Core and get the original pricing it was at. When you ordered yours how much was it again? I believe it was $250 right? Plus he said he would do it so I could get the a credit back to my account for 30% OFF as well as the $100 OFF Coupon he sent me.

Plus he'll upgrade me to 2 Day shipping for free. So I'm calling HP right now to return the first laptop. And as soon as that's credited back to my credit card I'll reorder.

He told me to give him the new order number and that he'll personally track it for me and make sure I'm credited back the money. And I trust him more than I trust the idiots over at the Home & Home Office Store over the phone.

Definitely. Ryan is someone you can trust.

So, you used the 30% off and a $100 coupon on the one you have now. Ryan is going to credit you back the price you paid, plus 30%, plus $100?
Then, he'll sell you the quad option for $225 (that's what I paid), and you still get 30% off and $100 coupon to use toward the quad price?

What have you calculated your final cost on the quad will be?

I'm pretty sure it's software, because if you track down the sound files for the fingerprint login, and play them in media player, they play fine. So I know the sound files are not corrupt and my speakers play fine in everything else.

It's just that darn fingerprint login plays low and raspy. Arrrrggghhh!

I'm returning the first laptop so the only thing that will be credited back for that one is the $1,600 and something I paid for it. That was my final price after the coupon and with taxes. So that much will be credited back to my account.

Then I'll replace the order. I just need to know how much your Quad cost before I can determine how much I'll save.

    1. I don't that the TV tuner in mine, but it looks like you need to install the TV tuner driver. You may have a different TV Tuner than the US Model, so you might have to search around for your particular tuner.

    2. No, the SATA drivers should have come with the Chipset drivers.

    3. That, I cannot help you with. Maybe someone else here who has reloaded their HDX18t from scratch?

For anyone looking to remove the stickers from their new HDX18t, set a blow dryer on warm and hold it over the stickers for a few seconds. They will peal right off easily.

An HP Customer advocate that helped many of us during the first release of the HP HDX18t and the quad core debacle.

He isn't your first point of contact. IF you have problems (which you probably won't) and you've gone the normal route and still aren't happy, then you could try contacting him (like CK did).

Well I am about to give my return to FedEx. I just calculated what my price would be for the new laptop if Ryan is able to credit me back the right amount for the difference.

    HP Pavilion HDX 18t

    • Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (64-bit)
    • Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad Processor QX9300 (2.53Hz)
    • 18.4" diagonal High Definition HP Ultra BrightView Infinity Display (1920x1080p)
    • 2GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    • 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT
    • 500GB 5400RPM SATA Dual Hard Drive (250GB x 2) with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
    • Webcam + Fingerprint Reader with HP Imprint Finish (Fluid)
    • HP Color Matching Keyboard
    • Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card with Bluetooth
    • Lightscribe Blu-Ray ROM with SuperMulti
    • No TV Tuner w/remote control
    • 8 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
    • No Productivity Software

I changed only 4 things. The Quad Core option of course. And then I went with the 2G memory option since they are now charging for the 3G one. Plus I got Bluetooth with the Wireless N Card as well as Lightscribe on the Blu-ray Drive.

Anyways assuming HP credits me back the right amount my total with tax should be $1,538.57. Of course I'll be replacing the memory and the hard drives with 4G and 320G 7200 rpm hard drives which cost me $250. Hopefully I can sell the stock hard drives and ram here to whomever wants them at a discount.

So you're not getting 30% off whatever you configure and get now, just whatever dollar value the coupon was for you on the first go-round? So, say you saved $600 using the 30% off coupon before, you're getting $600 credit now? If he was going to let you use your 30% off coupon now, I'd definitely opt for the 80GB SSD + 320GB HDD!!!

But there's a $350 difference between the dual 250G hard drives and the SSD drive.

Plus I don't really think I need SSD right now.

And thanks for the response to my PM. I would follow your entrepreneurship advice but I've been waiting for such a long time for this laptop and I don't want to go thru the hassle of putting it up on eBay and then waiting for someone to by it, shipping, etc. And then having to order another one from HP's website and wait for that one.

    Lancorp,
if my live.com 25% comes through, i will get my quad for around 700.00!
Ryan gave me the original price, plus the 200.00 off, and i should be getting 700+ back from live.com which brings the total of the Quad to around 749.00.
I am still shocked! But glad HP made things right after I initially felt screwed!
In fact, not only did I get the emails from Ryan but a supervisor was very apologetic over the whole thing.
Seems they want to make it right with those who ordered it early on.

    In the club.

Actually purchased mine from walmart.com - arrived 3 days later.

I will be DJing and producing music with mine, so I don't need a TV tuner, or an SSD, just a big portable screen and a fast machine in a immaculate housing.

Now I will go now so that I can load xp. grrrrrr!

Wow that actually isn't a bad deal. It comes with 4gigs, dual 250HDD's, bluetooth..

I'm too lazy to go configure the same specs on HP.com but especially with only a 3 day wait, I suppose it's not too bad....

i returned my 1st dv7t and placed the order for my new one at the same time.

so the period of like a week, hp had money for both units.

then when they recieved the return in VA (i think it was), they refunded me the money.

i mention this since i dont feel there was a risk. it's clear that you return one to get another. i think many customers do this.

Remember, I was one of the original Quad customers only to be told to cancel as the day it was to ship all the confusion started...
so had to re-order and i did so with the 9400 processor.
So... had it for almost a month, when Ryan emails me that the quads will be on sale 11/21 and i can do an exchange... I didn't think he would price match my last order (always have doubt).
SO I re-ordered with the same specs from my 9400 and added the quad (since that time the dual 320 gb HD went up in price, so the total was over 2900!!
BUT I ordered with live.com's 25% back! WOO HOO!
so, i did not care it was that high as long as Ryan price matched, which he did!
since this was my 4oth bday present from my wife, she is thrilled!

That's what I was thinking. I really don't care too much how much it's worth. I really don't need it and I've already ordered the dual 320Gs so I'm gonna stick with those.

I used my $100 OFF coupon to buy Norton Internet Security 2009 and 2 Black ink cartridges from HP's websites! All of that for just around $15! Awesome deal IMO. My mom already has NIS 2009 on her desktop (which I'm typing this on right now) as well as her dv5t.

The NIS 2009 I just ordered is gonna be for my Dad. It's gonna go on his Dell desktop, Dell notebook, and his office computer as well. So now everyone has a great Internet Security program.
