Nope not that one..![]()
So far I haven't found any issues with my HDX. No scratches, no dead pixels...I pray that I got a good one. My HDD and RAM are in transit and it's killing me that I don't have them by now!!
I can't really do all that much to personalize this thing because I'm just going to have to rebuild it with the new HDD...what's taking so long!
BTW: I love the keyboard, it's snappy, but smooth...much much better than my crappy gateway keyboard...
-
jeez, UPS now says it won't come today, but tomorrow!!! ACK!!!

o man that sucks =(

vistabad - check ur pm's.
yeah, im going to let her open it. im such a nice guy sometimes! =P hahahahahahahaha -
My HDX18t just arrived, and I'm typing on it now.
First impressions:
* Wow! This thing is HUGE! But beautiful! And shiny! (Hmm... Really shiny, actually. I suspect fingerprints will be a bit of an anoyance.)
* Uh oh. The panel on the DVD player is not glued down tight; it's actually sticking out a bit because it's loose on one side. It's probably nothing a drop of superglue won't fix. Hmmm...
* The touchpad feels... odd. I've been used to a more "gritty" feel on my old Dell's touchpad. This one feels just a bit sticky. But the keyboard is nice (although not as quiet as I would have liked; I suppose that's the tradeoff for a more tactile and "clicky" feeling keyboard).
* The screen is gorgeous. I mean, really really beautiful. Bright, colorful, crisp. Can't wait to see what a high def movie looks like on this thing!
* Speaking of which, where's that little built-in remote? Oh, there. Now just to... press in... press in... press in hard... and... *pop* there it is. Um, no. Wait. Just a blank piece of plastic? Oh, the real remote is in the box still. Whew!
* Hmmm. Looks like a bunch of bloatware on this thing. Bleh. Time to uninstall stuff, download updates, etc.
I'm off to have some fun exploring! -

congrats. you won't sleep a minute tonight.

I don't really want to get used to the way the touchpad works on the HP, I want it to wear out and get smooth....
If you want super clean smooth, go try out the new Apple Macbooks, your finger glides as if it's on ice....it is the smoothest touchpad out there.. -
Firefox doesn't seem to play nicely with Vista 64, maybe I should try the 64bit version of FF?
It's crashed on me twice already and I wasn't doing anything special.... -
The touch pad seems to get smoother the more you use it. I think the oil on you fingers help. It was really sticky for me as well but the more i use it the smoother it seems to work.
-
Personally, I like Google Chrome more. Try that!
-
Hmmm. One thing I'm noticing about the touchpad is that it often takes a couple of strokes to move the mouse all the way across this massive screen. Easy fix?
-
yeah just change the speed of your mouse pointer in control panel.
That's what I did...the default mouse speed is always too slow for me. -
I am a huge fan of FF and it will take a lot for me to jump ship.... -
Yes, I agree with vistabad, Chrome is cool and all, but still WAY too early. I don't even think a couple of revisions is enough.
Though some may not like me saying this, I love Safari. I like Safari the most of the non-IE browsers. -
Can you get safari for windows? I never even bothered to look into safari? -
I have a HDX 18t, and I have a question about the Nvidia HDMI audio. I'm looking into buying a surround sound system online and I think I found the one I want. But, the CNET review says:
-
I must say I do agree with them saying it's the fastest. I've used all the browsers and think it is the fastest, atleast of the sites I frequent. -
So I tried Crysis at 1280x768 resolution. Seems to run pretty good.
However it really pushed the HDX because it got HOT! But good to know that I could atleast get a game in of decent quality if I wanted to.
I'm sure Unreal 3 would work just as well.... -
Thanks, i had no idea, I'll take a look... -
-
Wow...I was away today and just checked in...a flurry of activity!!
Nice to see everyone (almost) is happy with their HDX18t's....I like mine a lot. I do find the fan is on frequently, though...maybe because I have a QUAD?
The sound is awesome, too! (if you have sound)
Enjoy guys! Looks like the population of HDX18t's has multiplied many times today!
(I have not even had a chance to open the 2nd one that showed up today...I'll be checking it out today or tomorrow) -
I'm upset that I didn't receive my HDD and RAM today, they will be arriving tomorrow but I have to be at work. So I really missed out on completing my full personalization of this HDX today. Oh well....
There are a lot more HDX owners today though than before so hopefully we can continue to get more feedback....
As for the flexing on the numbered pads, yes I can see and feel the flexing too, it's no biggie for me...I guess all HP had to do was just use something stronger below it...but again, no biggie.. -
I'm finding that the sound feels like it's sometimes overdriving the speakers. There's a slight buzz or something with some sounds. I think it happens more with higher/treble tones, but I'll need to check it out some more.
Anyone know if all the drivers that came preinstalled are current, or if we should be downloading updates as part of the system setup? -
Thinking about buying HDX18t.
With Quad...those it runs hot? or is it with games that it gets hot?
My purpose of this HDX 18t will be for stock trading using 2 monitors with
plenty charts to display. -
Another question for ya (and you were just thinking "Will this guy ever stop?"):
Any suggestions for the cleanest way to remove all those product stickers from the restpad? I really don't see the need for them all -- it just makes a beautiful wrist rest look cluttered. -
Will be receiving my Quad 12/3. LONG wait, but worth it.
I had the dual core for about a month and noticed how quiet it is...
Lancorp, do you think it is loud due to being a quad?
anyone else here have the quad notice noise (fan?) -
I can really feel it.... -
Maybe it's my OCD, but I always hate when one screen isn't the same size as the other one... -
I would just use your finger nails and chip at the corners until you can peel it off..dont' use anything like a razor blade...
And if you're going to do it, do it soon while it's still kinda fresh, after awhile, it will probably be impossible to remove the stickers... -
I'm not sure it's really a good idea to put the subwoofer below the laptop. It muffles the subwoofer effects. I've had it sitting on table that of course didn't give it any air beneath it, and as soon as I picked up the laptop while it was playing music, WOW, the subwoofer was a lot louder and BASS sounding....
About 10 years ago, I bought the Compaq 1800T, and even back then, it was one of THE best sounding laptops on the market because it had sub woofer with dual chambers, there was nothing else like it.
The design was smart because the chambers were on the sides of the laptop so you can feel the bass pumping out and nothing to block it...
If the HDX at least had legs that you can adjust you can allow more flow... -
Any chance anyone has this? It's for 17" laptops but I can't imagine why it wouldn't fit the HDX....

Plus, I like the XL look better, it's black and dark blue. Also I got it on sale for like $30 or $40, half the regular price. Anyways, the backpack is AWESOME. I love just how much stuff fits in it.

removing the stickers was the 1st thing i did on my dv7t ---
Now my desk is Core 2 Duo --
i simply peeled them off. the residue was such a mother f'er to remove. it took about an hour to remove using windex, water, and a NON ABRASIVE sponge. srsly, it took AGES to get the residue off and afterwards i just stared at the laptop, too tired to work on it.
LOL -
I get this too. These seem to be the most up to date drivers. Are you also on Vista 64bit? -
-
-
your laptop looks naked without those stickers... -
Did you play with your IDT settings? maybe the volume is up too high compared with the master volume? -
Anyone have a coupon for the HDX18t? I am prepared to buy one (sent the other one back as it was too slow for running Windows Server 2008) and see the quad is out so I will give that a whirl.
Thanks -
-
-
well if you opened your OTHER HDX, you could find out if that has problems too!! That would make you a victim twice over! -
Does anyone know any coupons I can use for Amazon!!? I love me some coupons!!! -
timesquaredesi MagicPeople VooDooPeople
i like my laptops like my girls - naked...... and shiny.
alright, forget the shiny part, but you know what i mean.
-
-
I did buy one of those in FEB 2008 for $39.99 from Amazon. -
Maybe the drivers, as you say? I hope so; that's a pretty fixable thing. Or maybe we'll be able to tweak the settings a bit to curb the edge from the high notes? -
Those guys are sneaky! They probably up the price if you come from targus's website!
I can do $50....I'll order it first thing tomorrow morning..... -
I would like to thank all you guys for your posts... I made up my mind and yes I want the HP HDX18.. Just waiting for that 30 percent off coupon to come out again.. I have 2 questions if anyone can answer..
1.Can anyone recommend a cool pad fan?
2.Anyone get the HDTV Tuner? How is it?
