Lancorp, incidentally there is a HP QLB under device manager. I can only guess that must be controlling the buttons, though not necessarily the on screen display of the buttons.

IMO, I think you should wait for the new shipment and exchange it. Money is tight in today's economy and these vendors need to learn to churn out quality products, including HP.
the only thing is, you need to make sure that the new shipment has the higher resolution!!!
I am really regretting not getting the dual HDD's, as soon as they come out I am totally going to get one. I think the concern is the SATA cables that no one can get a hold of?
I opened up my HP tablet PC, and the HDD cage looks the same, so later this weekend I am going to see if it fits properly, if it does, then all we have to do as HDX owners is get the HDD kit for my tablet PC!!!
EDIT: nevermind, I just compared the two drives and they are different. -
-
I guess I'll find out when I do the exchange.
lol
I guess the search for the right caddy and cable continues, right vistabad? Kidding.
The ones on the 7805s apparently don't even need a cable, once you attach the HD to the cage, you just slide it in place, similar to when you attach a battery to a laptop. Actually, it looks like all you need is a set of standard screws for the 2nd HD, but those are usually really cheap and easy to find. Once you have the screws you're ready for RAID. -
If it bugs you, I also vote to exchange it, assuming you can get the high res screen on the next one. I didn't realize Best Buy allows exchanges. That's cool. I'm new to the world of returning and exchanging computers; I didn't realize it was a widely available option.
About the second hard drive -- yay for you, and ouch for us.
Oh, no...I mean, I enjoy having to choose between not being able to use the second hard drive bay and paying $200 for a second 250 gig drive.($300 for a total of 1 TB isn't as terrible a deal, though.)
-
The search DOES continue. I know that newmodeUS.com is working on it. I just have to be patient... -
-
* Yeah, that's probably what I'll do as soon as they get a new shipment.
* Yes, you can exchange/return most items at BB (or most other stores for that matter), as long as they're defective or unopened. If you open the box and the item is not defective, you can still return it, but they'll charge a restocking fee. -

This thread is starting to turn into a discussion about the p-7805u, instead of the HP HDX18t. lol
-
So let me get this straight...
An HDX18 owner is not able to (as of yet) install a 2nd hard drive because the HD caddy and cable kit is not available? -
Any thoughts on the Acer Aspire AS8930-7665 NoteBook Intel Core 2 Quad Q9000(2.00GHz) 18.4" Wide UXGA 4GB Memory 500GB HDD Blu-ray NVIDIA GeForce 9700M GT compare to the HP18T Quad core?
-
-
just like to ask how much battery life are users getting.
im getting 2 hours from 100% to empty and only being used for surfing the web, is this about the norm or is it a bit low. (i have the laptop set to 'high performance' setting). -
That is correct. -
-
-
You know its a pitty, i wanted to roll with one of these beautiful HDX 18 models, but the Absolute horror Stories about HP tech support have scared me away, hopefully sooner or later HP will get the message.
-
We unfortunately live in times now where you pray you get a good piece of equipment. Otherwise you are dealing with INDIA!!! -
-
How much faster would the HDX 18 with a Quad core processor be than a Dragon with the T8300 ?
Is there a way to make the HDX18 drive 2 external displays, ie one via the VGA port and another via the HDMI port ?
Thanks -

any news about better gpu in hdx18
-
It's not an available option on HP's site yet, but newegg has the HDX with the new lower end quad, Q9000 (2.00 GHz) w/a 500 gig hard drive for $1849 ($1799 after rebate).
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834147924
Any thoughts about how this would compare to the core 2 duo 2.53 GHz?
The evolution of the HDX continues...maybe we'll see better graphics cards next. -
-
-
Same for me too, just under 2 hours. I didn't let it get all the way to DEAD!
Actually, I was surprised that it made it that far. My old dv9000 would barely make an hour! -
Just got my HDX a week ago. How do I turn off the lights on the keyboard?
-
-
-
-
There's always duct tape!! -
You can output to vga and hdmi, but your laptop display will be off. You can display 2 of the 3 at any time in any combo. -
Just look at that.. right after christmas the graphics card and memory has been upgraded
.

Holy Crap!
At first I thought hell, I'll take mine back to Costco and get the better graphics, but , the CPU went up too much for that to make sense! -
The Q9100 and QX9300 seem disproportionately high, especially since the QX9300 cannot be used to it's full ability (overclocked) in the HDX18t. Plus, last I checked, Intel didn't jack up the price of the chip...I think they still go for around $1000.
Plus, Dell is still only adding $890 for their M6400 with a QX9300, and HP wants $1500!!!
I did just reprice the HDX18t I just bought during the 30% off coupon (last week?), and the price is the same. Looks like except for the Quads and the 1GB video option, everything else stayed the same.
I wonder why they'd opt for a 1GB video option on the 9600M GT? It's not that powerful anyways, and is 1GB video RAM really going to help anything? (and $250 more???) -
Aaaacccckkk!!! They added a Blu-ray BURNER for $100!!!! I want to change my order!!!
-

The representative simply said, "You will not be receiving you notebook tomorrow. It's still in repair status." I asked if she had a revised ETA for its return, and she said there was no additional information available. But she assured me, "You'll receive a call letting you know its status." I asked when I might expect this call, and she said, "Tomorrow when it does not come to you." (That's an exact quote, and it really cracked me up.)
*sigh*
I'm growing impatient, but understand the delays with the holidays and all. I just wish HP would be a bit more proactive at keeping me informed. -
-
Last night the HDX18 build your own showed out of stock on the HP site. This morning they are back up and have the option of DDR3 system memory at same price as DDR2 if you go with 1GB NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT at an added price of $249 versus 512 MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT. Worth it? I'm inclined to say no as I'm not a heavy gamer.
A little thing, as long as I can make one, but I didn't see an option to buy a system recovery disk for $20 either. -
* That new GPU upgrade for the HDX doesn't make sense at all, specially for the $250 premium. You'd think they would have opted for a 9800m.
* I see they decided to upgrade to DDR3 as well.
Hopefully HP will get the configuration of the HDX right soon enough. But unfortunately the pricetag seems to be skyrocketing.
The HDX18t's exterior does look more "upscale". But I don't think it justifies the pricetag. -
-
The price of the DDR3 memory is the same, but if you decide to get DDR3, it looks like you also have to upgrade the GPU ($250).
They probably figured most people will probably just get the DDR2 memory and the original 9600M to keep the price down, thereby allowing them to get rid of inventory, without cutting the price of the old parts. Once they get rid of them, they may adjust the prices.
One way or another, they always get you. -
A quick check of the threads does not provide me with a good option for a TSA Check-Point Friendly bag for the HDX18. Can someone advise me of where I might find one.
Footnote: Something great has finally happened.... My HDX18 performs flawlessly and quickly... The first laptop I have been truely pleased with!
Thanks -
They also have the "TV Tuner" back as an option, both at Costco and at HP. From what I've read here, it seems like it was a good thing that it was NOT available when I ordered mine, as I just may have added it for the hell of it.
Still a bit bummed about the better graphics and DDR3, but the price leap on the QX9300 is so high that I would never have gone for it.
I agree with RampageII that once the parts for the DDR2 versions are out, the DDR3 will be the only MB available.
And the BD Burner for $100!! I would have gone for that in a heartbeat. -
I'm still shocked by the price increase on the QX9300.
From the base 2.26GHz P8400 at Costco, it's an ADD $1497.00
From the base 2.26GHz P8400 at HP, it's an ADD $1500.00
So what happened? Why is adding this chip to an HDX 18 now more than the cost of 2 cheap notebooks??? -
I was emailed this morning that my HDX 16t shipped today originally scheduled for a Jan 9th production date. No word yet on my HDX 18t yet still showing a production date of the 9th. No looking back at this point. I only hope and pray for 2 good units on arrival. I did see the $1,500.00 premium for the QX9300!!!
