I decided to post here instead of the "Which notebook I should buy", since most netbooks are the same specs anyways. I had a few questions hopefully someone can answer.
1) The first post said that Windows XP has a 1GB RAM limit, but I read somewhere that Intel Atom processor can support up to 2 GB. Is the RAM limit still capped by Windows XP?
2) How is anime watching on this (frameskipping/interlacing issue, etc)? A lot of the animes I watch now are AVI or MKV format type (I was thinking about waiting for the new Ion platform, but who knows when it'll become more common).
3) I'll probably post this elsewhere, but do you think the Atom processor can handle Computer programming tools like Eclipse? (I'm going to be like programming in C++, Java, and SQL).
The HP Mini 1000 is the netbook I'll probably will get to replace my Dell laptop. I just want something more portable and act as my mobile iTune for my iPod touch.

Hi. I just purchased a Mini 1030NR with the 16GB SSD. I found a 32GB HCSD card on Amazon and I am wondering if this would be a good method to supplement the SSD space. I also found a 8GB mini USB card to replace the 2GB one that fits in the special USB slot. I read testimonials from other forum members that the 16GB HCSD cards are recognized by the Mini 1000, but I want to be sure that a 32GB card will also function the same. In the end, I'm planning to upgrade the RAM to 2GB and the overall HD capacity to 56GB. Any input and recommendations are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I really hate the fact that if you have to nuke n reload the Mini 1000, you have to call MS to get a disk. I got mine through Verizon, have loved every second of it, but when it crashed (my own fault) Verizon couldn't do a thing about it, and referred me to MS...the rep said that, 'they're just responsible for the sim chip'. What's the difference in covering a netbook and a phone that is made by someone else? If my Droid goes bad, they replace it. If my Mini goes bad...I'm referred somewhere else. If they can't provide support, they shouldn't be selling it.

I upgraded mine to a PC2 5300 2Gb stick, and it works just fine. It recognized it, and I noted an substantial increase in speed...just don't put too much crap on em, or else it bogs it down. I have Office 2007 on there and it runs great. iTunes with it's sync'ing and stuff lags, certain frame rates in video will skip a little...this is just a little that I've seen. Oh, and get a laptop cooler. My battery gets HOT...which then causes crashes. There's a BIOS update that deals with the voltage better to help the heating, but it's not enough. Hope this helps.

hi mini 1000 users...
shy of buying a usb optical drive, what is the simplest, best way to reinstall windows? (in know those two may be mutually exclusive).
i have the recovery discs, but i'd rather not pay more money for a drive that i'll use only once.
ideas?

short of using an usb optical drive, i've tried using a thumb drive.
first, using my imac, i copied the os disc over to the thumb drive, and then tried booting from it on the mini... didn't work. but i forgot what the message said.
then, i realized using a mac was not the best idea, so i reformatted the thumb drive to fat32 and repeated the copying from the cd to the flash drive using a compaq presario with xp.
still, when trying to reboot the mini from the thumb drive, it told me there was a disc error, 'press any key to continue', and then upon pressing, it booting normally.
so any advice on where to go from there would be GREATLY appreciated!!!
cheers, -
any recommendations on HDs to get to replace the 60gb one in the 1035nr? my gf spilled water and luckily only the hd died...i think...now im trying to find a replacement hd...im guessing this only takes a 1.8" with a zif connector and no more than 5mm think if i want to use it with the cradle? is that correct? what manufacturers make these drives?
