Does anyone have the problem of the cursor jumping all over the screen while you type? I know that this is from my thumbs or hands touching the touchpad while typing but I have never experienced it as bad as I have on this laptop.

So do you guys like the 210, or do you think the 110 with DDR2 will suffice for general web browsing?
-
Does anyone have the version with the dual core atom N550 yet?
-
I did mess around with one at a local electronics shop. I like them. They look quite solid in terms of build quality. The oversized 6-cell battery is nearly flush and you can't tell. The screen is amazing though a bit glossy and reflects light. The touchpad is still pretty bad and it's hard to do multi-touch movements.
I might build one at HP.com if I can find any coupon to work for it. -
The only discount I found is epp for 6%

Engadgey did a review of the probook 5103 recently with the n550 I think
-
Just ordered mine... Should be here soon. Almost the same build as Davideis, but I chose to include bluetooth as opposed to the GPS module. I figured HP's software is horrendous and that most people have GPS devices or smartphones capable of doing that.
I went for bluetooth because while the trackpad is nice, it's better to use a bluetooth mouse and this way I wont use up a USB port with a bluetooth dongle.
I will try and review as much as possible once I get it. From browsing, flash videos, webcam, battery life, etc... I will also install IE9 beta since it's amazing and see how it runs on the webcam. -
Cool, whats the ship date, my estimated ship date is still 9/24/10, its now the 26th but I am hoping that tomorrow it will be shipping. I wanted it last week, but I guess I have to wait. I have a smartphone with GPS but I though it would be cool to have GPS in my netbook. I was probably going to get a wireless mouse but I was looking at the Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 4000. I hardly use Bluetooth and I already have a pretty tiny Bluetooth USB adapter. I will try all the browsers on the Mini, I am really liking IE9 Beta, they finally made easy to use.

Just ordered mine with the following specs:
* charcoal
* Genuine Windows 7 Starter 32-bit
* Intel(R) Atom(TM) N550 (dual core,1.50GHz) + Broadcom(R) Video accelerator + Intel(R) Graphics 3150
* 1GB DDR3 System Memory (1 Dimm)
* 160GB 7200RPM Hard Drive
* Microsoft(R) Office Starter 2010
* 6-Cell Lithium-Ion Battery - Up to 10.75 hours of battery life +++
* 10.1" diagonal High Definition HP BrightView Infinity LED Display (1366 x 768)
* Webcam with Integrated Digital Microphone
* 802.11b/g/n WLAN
* 93% Full-size island-style keyboard
* HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope
Hope this performs good...because I almost went for the Acer 521 but I guess the BrightView Infinity LED Display (1366 x 768) sold me to HP over the 1024 x 600 on the Acer... -
Yeah mine is expected to ship tomorrow... hopefully it comes quick.
The only reason I chose bluetooth was because I didn't have any external dongle and when I was building it and that the ability to use bluetooth mice, headphones, printers or even sending songs and music straight to my cellphone wasn't bad and I thought it's only $20 bucks and over the period of a year or two it's not much.
As for GPS, I don't like the Navigator software much but I have heard people who love having GPS in their netbooks. Somebody posted how they use it on their boat and is amazing. But I figure since my car has built-in GPS, my smartphone has it, I wouldn't need it as much.
when it comes, I'm going to put it through it's paces and see just what can be done with it. -
Good News------- Mine is finally on its way, as of 11:10pm CST its in Anchorage, Alaska expected to arrive on Friday. I CANNOT WAIT... Expect full review to follow.
-
my Mini 210-2000 cto arrived yesterday.. I got the n550+broadcom, 1366x768 version in charcoal.. and I got the red sleeve.. I have to say this is teh highest quality netbook I've ever used.. I"ll post pics and impressions tomorrow
-
-
Anything you'd need me or davideis to review or check out? -
Um, pcmark if possible. 3dmark isn't necessary.
Also watch a youtube 1080p video. -
Mine just arrived today... First Impressions: This is probably one of the best netbooks that seen. The GPS is pretty neat, the HP Navigation software is decent. The keyboard is great, the HD screen is wonderful. I am typing this post on it. I watched YouTube - Big Buck Bunny animation (1080p HD) to test HD, it was very fluid the HD decoder really works. I will post some pictures and benchmark data soon.

Hi I thought I would post some pictures and also some videos of the n550 mini 210 playing 1080p video. Please excuse the glare from the sun in the videos and also my reflection
I ran a 7zip benchmark with 8MB dictionary. results after 8 passes were 2282 MIPS. It came with a 5700mah 66WH battery which is awesome, I thought it only had a 44WH one for some reason.

thats pretty much what mine looks like. i donwloaded the trial of pcmark vantage and it scored a 1209, it didn't give me much information, i then found a free benchmarking software NovaBench which the computer scored a 221, when i compared the score online most of the computers that had similar scores were Intel Petium 4 D 3.0 GHz with 2-4 Gb of Ram. Then I disabled the Broadcom chip and tryed some youtube videos, 720p was semi watchable but 1080p was like a semi-fast slide show. With the chip enabled everything was viewable. Are there any other questions? Also I don't know if i posted this earlier but my only complaint so far is that since the keyboard is silver when the sun hits it directly i can hardly see the screen and its really bright. Also using the computer with wifi and doing the benchmarks and surfing the internet i got about 4:30 which for me is pretty cool, ill do some other battery benchmarks when i have the time.

wow, fluid bluray playback is amazing. So overall build quality and feel is good?
And how's multi tasking? -

Can Someone with the n550 atom post a video of normal use of this net book.
Is this a good one for my parents used for video chatting and internet browsing usage only? What is the cam. megapixel? ( I know I can get an external one but just curious.)
Thanks -
i can't get you a video but i can tell you that the n550 is decent at mutitasking, its a lot faster than the other netbooks i have used in the past. Also the max resolution for the vga output is 1280x1024, i don't know if you can get it higher.
edit: also i think the web cam is 640x480 -
So far, there isn't anything I haven't been able to do on this netbook. As for camera, it's only 1.3 megapixels I believe which is decent for a netbook. -
-
I pulled out that Acer Netbook and did some testing, Specs are Intel Atom Z520 1.33Ghz, Intel GMA 500 and 1 GB Ram... NovaBench Score 136, 7Zip 8MB Dictionary 4 Passes- 815 MIPS

My netbook had been in clearance delay for a while for some reason... When I contacted HP they gave me like 60 off the price. So essentially I got the top of the line netbook for like only $420 before tax.
-
I have the same problem - it was stuck in clearance delay in TN for a few days and was now released and delivered in TN ( I live in PA) and now HP says it was delivered and cannot track it !!!! -
I recently purchased the HP Mini 210-2000 (N475 Atom) and so far I like it. I have an Asus G73jh-A1 for all my high-end computing and got this netbook as something light I can easily carry to college classes. However there are two problems that I have experienced with it.
The first is the right hinge seems to be coming loose. I can see that there is much more of a gap between the hinge and the case on the right hand side than on the left, and the right side is also a bit more wiggly if you move it. Has anyone else experienced this with their Mini 210-2000? I can post some pictures if you want.
The second problem is that the first thing I did when I got it was re-formatted and installed Windows 7 Pro x64 (Finding drivers for this thing was a hassle since HP doesn't have 64 bit drivers on their site). The problem with this is that I don't think I got the driver for the HD Broadcom card quite right. There was only one driver on the Broadcom site for it and it didn't specify x86 vs x64. It installed just fine and device manager recognizes it correctly, but when I go to youtube and try to play a 1080p (or even 720p) in fullscreen it lags terribly. I have installed the latest flash player (10.1). So my question is, has anyone upgraded to 64-bit and been able to get the HD crystal Broadcom card to work properly? -
-
I spoke with HP and they said it was because the master delivery of all notebooks shipped from Shanghai all had one tracking number and that the delivered meant that FedEx had accepted the package and would individually deliver the rest. They assured me that my computer was en route and they were right. If I still use the tracking number I was provided, it says delivered in Memphis.
I suggest giving HP a call if it doesn't come by tomorrow. They will tell you where your notebook really is. I also ended up getting like $60 off the price because of the delay. And so, with everything except GPS added, I got the notebook for like $420 before tax. -
-
Mine finally arrived today . . .box was badly battered but the netbook looks ok and boots fine. I have a question - has anyone upgraded the memory in their new 210 series ? I ordered a 1GB model as I thought i easier to use one of the 2GB chips I already have but none of the DDR3 chips I have work. -

Hey, guys. I have a friend who has a black HP mini-210 running on win7 starter ed. It's all good but just today, it installed some windows updates upon boot-up. It displayed an update saying 5 out of 13 is completed. It was like more than an hour already. I didn't tell her to force restart or force shut down her notebook since the blue circle is still spinning which indicated that the update is still loading. What do u think should I do? Does windows updates upon boot-up really take that long?
Thanks in advance
-
So what bloatware did you guys/keep remove??
Whats your thoughts on the hp wireless assistant and the hp support assistant?
Also, do you know a way to make the volume control show on the screen when you use the keyboard to make it louder or quieter? Just curious. -
comrade_commissar7 Notebook Evangelist
-I'm not sure of the volume thing. The wireless assistant and support assistant, they're important but just disable them in msconfig cos they really eat up time in starting up ur hp. -
Also, noticed that the bottom right of the keyboard near the arrow keys is a bit loose... It makes a clicking sound everytime I use the down or side buttons because the keyboard housing goes in. Also, the power light is visible in the crack of space along the side. Normal or am I nitpicking?

I also bought one and I looove it!!
It's the Preppy Pink color (this: http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/no/...3329744-3832383-3832383-4151684-4232797.html , and it has the Intel Atom N475 1.83 GHz that supports DDR3 memory (unlike the N470). So I upgraded from the old 1 GB Samsung 667 MHz DDR2 to Crucial DDR3 SO-DIMM 1066MHz 2 GB CL7. I know some people will wonder where I bought it, I bought it here http://www.komplett.no/k/ki.aspx?sku=350649 And beside this, my Mini 210 only had Windows 7 Starter and I hate it because it's dull and limited, no eyecandy and you can't even change the background on the desktop. So I also used Windows Anytime Upgrade and upgraded to Windows 7 Home Premium
It works like a charm now and it's a lot more powerful than my last netbook that had the N270 and 1 GB DDR2 RAM. This is the best netbook I've ever had and I really love it!!
-
So I decided to look at the back and I noticed what the problem was... Whoever assembled my mini 210 tightened the left side 'keyboard' screw so much that it broke the plastic housing and is into the housing only. Meaning that the screw isn't being held to the keyboard hole and back housing anymore. I've taken a few pics to show you what I mean. Is this something that counts as returnable or what? Like if you guys look in the back, near the empty pcie slot to the left of the hdd, is the keyboard fastening screw. Mine seems to have been used so forcefully that it broke the plastic and is actually independent of the housing now. Any ideas? Don't really want to exchange because I use it daily and will take so long to ship/receive again.
-
-
If you're not comfortable with superglue (like me) I would return it and ask for a new one because it's not your fault, it's the guy who assembled it.
-
Sorry about that... The attachment feature wasn't working and was too tired to upload them online but here they are. Compare that part with yours and you can see. What I find funny is why would HP even think people would be stupid enough not to notice that the bronze contacts and silver are just painted cheap chinese plastic.
I made them thumbnails because otherwise they took up the whole page, but if you click, it shows in great detail what I meant. It was hell even unscrewing the tight screw. Any fix to this that you guys can think of? Makes me wary of buying from HP again. I know they want to keep costs down, but plastic is not the way to go when it comes to things like this. -
Does anyone know why HP sent me a GPS reciever for my computer and told me that they forgot to put it in. I know for a fact that they already put one in because the Device manager says its in there and I have already used it.???? I also see light on the bottom right but not a lot, I just ignore it. As far as gaming, I put Quake 3 on here and with the settings maxed out I get about 30-50 fps, pretty cool. I have also installed Age of Mythology, Rise of Nations and SimCity 4 and they all run pretty well... SimCity 4 is a little slow though.
-
I chose not to get one so I can't tell you for certain, but is it possible for you to take a pic of it and show us? Is it a Broadcom GPS chip? -
The module is a Azurewave Mini PCI-E GPS Card product I know for a fact that I already have one in the computer.
