I am going to keep it for now, but you'll get a kick out of this... I just got a package in the mail today from the same place. I opened it up to find three items. 1. Instructions 2. 2 CD and 3.... A HP External DVD Burner... All of this was so I could install the software for the GPS that "was not" in my computer. LMAO. :D :D :D :D :D :D

That's HP for you lol. When my Mini 210 was in a clearance delay, I just asked them if they could tell me why customs was holding it up and rather than just say the paperwork wasn't done or that something wasn't correct, she said she'd give me 15% off my total price. And so I got like $70 off my total order. And so, my Mini 210 with all the bells and whistles barely cost like $429.99.

That's great that you also got an external DVD RW drive because they go for like $59.99+

I just purchased a Mini 210 NR from WalMart in one of the more basic formats (no bluetooth, 1GB RAM, no HD video), but it does come with the 250gb harddrive. I'm now somewhat having buyers remorse. I'm wondering if I should have gotten the HD version? Or, maybe something with more ram.

How upgradable are these machines? I can still return it to WalMart for a full refund if you guys think I would be better served with more memory and HD?

I want to watch movies, do basic wordprocessing/spreadsheets, and surf the web.

    Ideas?

    Todd

the machines are pretty upgradeable, i think you can get an hd card, and i know you can put another 1gb in there but i think you need windows 7 home for that. you can always go to hp's website and customize one before you order to see how much it will be. also is the mini the 210-1000 or 210-2000?

Thanks for the response. It's the HP Mini 210 2081NR which is the 2000 series. I have already purchased the machine and am debating about keeping it or taking it back then possibly buying one with HD, but not sure if I should or just keep the one I have and maybe upgrade a little at a time.

    I'm getting a 210-2001sa for Christmas
    Specs:
    N455
    No Broadcom
    Bluetooth
    250GB HDD
    1GB RAM
    7 Starter
    Black

What RAM do I need to upgrade it? Do I need a 1 or 2GB stick, DDR2 or DDR3?

It's ddr3. And because there is only one slot, you need a 2 gb stick.

My version is the n550 dual core, 2 gb ram, 250 gb harddrive, and broadcom crystal HD decoder and bluetooth.

I'd say, it's much better to get the laptop with the broadcom already in, because for the 2000 series, the HD decoder is built onto the motherboard and leaves the mini pci-e slot free. But you can just as easily buy a decoder off of ebay and add it.

I've got no choice of configuration, ordering it from a catalogue (I know, but its a christmas present and my parents said it really had to be from there).
I've ordered it anyway. I had a go on the pink 2000 series in Currys on Monday (before the horrid snow set in), and I have to say, I'm in love. The keyboard is comfortable to type on, and I can get on with the touchpad.

Does the speed of the RAM matter? I'm probably getting whatever's cheapest. (I've got a spare CD and key for it)

Would the board support 4GB RAM? I'm probably putting Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit on

Guess there isn't much support in this thread anymore. Kind of wish there was more activity here to breathe new life into the 210.

No-one bothers to type in "intel atom undervolting" in google search and read the answers found. Even less copy+pasting them here.

Do the 6-cell batteries on the new 2011 models stick out? I watched the video below and he said that battery included is a 6-cell, but it's flush. Is he mistaken or did they do a major redesign of the battery.

guys, my friend brought to me his HP mini and asked me to perform clean install.
Question 1. How can I see what model is it?
Q2. How to perform a clean Windows install.

Please don't tell me use disks because I want to install another distributive of W7 without using "upgrade" option.

Also! I see there is some HP photo program. Is it better than default one? And will I be able to install all these staff (or bloatware) then? For example on mine Sony VAIO there is smth which can't be downloaded from official site... but I am not sad of this though :)

Hi! I have a 210-2000, the computer is really nice but I was thinking in some upgrade...
Memory and HD basically: the HD is sloooooow, so my plans are to put a SSD in it. I don't need much space, but I really want it more reactive. Unfortunately, this requires money, and it's not the right time for it. Just in case: what kind of SSD could I use? SATAwhat?
Then, memory: 1Gb is not enough for me, I'm costantly running on 80-90% of usage. I was thinking to upgrade my big laptop from 4Gb to 8Gb and using one of the two 2Gb stick of my Vaio as upgrade. I'm seeing that the HP uses DDR3, and it looks like my Sony uses DDR2: I'm a bit rusty with this stuff, so maybe the question is silly, but can I use DDR2 instead of DDR3? I don't know, maybe what supports DDR3 is ok with DDR2... really, I have no idea.
    Thanks! :)

Looks like this forum is totally dead as members are... or here is smth that I don't know.

Yoг can put 2GB stick of DDR3 1333 Mhz after you upgraded to the latest BIOS. You also can try to use 4GB stick one if you have but I doubt it will work.

About HDD,... SSD will not help you as much as it can if you get at least 2GB of RAM. If you already have 7200rpm then most likely RAM is bottleneck but surely SSD will help you.

Use SATA3. Even when you don't have Sata3 connector it will work better/more trusted using modern SSD like Crusial M4 or Samsung 830. You can buy Samsung480 though as it is very good too for its age.

Hi James, thanks for the answer.
This forum is not dead, I usually get all answers I need... with patience. I think there is not much people around with this laptop, or maybe they don't need anything :D
About the BIOS update, where could I get it? From HP website or from motherboard producer?

    I don't think I have a 7200rpm... it looks really too slow.
On my VAIO I switched from a 7200rpm to a SSD M4 and I had a HUGE boost in performances. I will do it after the memory only for a matter of money... otherwise, it will be already inside it :D

    I found this memory stick:
    DDR3 2GB 1333 MHZ PC10600 TRANSCEND
for 15€... is it good? Damn, I still remember when I bought my first 4Mb (yes, megabyte) ram for about 200€...
By the way, where can I check if I have the correct BIOS for the memory upgrade?

I've just received and installed the memory. It works perfectly, the increase in performance is quite evident!

    Neat I didn't expect that these netbooks would take DDR3. I own a 210-1010CA.

Edit; I opened it up to take a look and as I thought DDR2 and DDR3 have the notch placed in a different location.

Edit2; Now that I've pulled this thing out and am looking at it I am thinking "what the heck can I even do with this thing" or even "what do I want to do with this thing"
