I must add that the laptop, doesn't matter at what fan speed, gets noticiable warm in the surface.
-
I have tried everything ... No way to return to the previous bios, none of the fan controller software work due to built-in HP limitations, also HP does not offer any control fan system ... just asked through my HP account for a refund but being friday I guess I will not have an answer until Monday
, I think I'm slapped with this "search for the perfect laptop" thing

Low cpu temperature will not happen with the stock thermal paste. -
Has anyone noticed lag for a couple of seconds in moving your mouse cursor around on the screen just after inserting or removing a USB device such as a USB flash drive? It happens regardless of what type of USB device I am inserting/removing.

Hi heraldo do you have a 1070 or a 1060 in your system, how much did it cost you in total? Is the 144 hz stock?
-
-
The replacement laptop will overheat too. -
The temps aint too bad right now after undervolting -160mv the max it gets is 90c or 91c which is fine by me as long as it doesn't hit thermal limits
Also I can hear the fans running only after 30 minutes of stressing the laptop (games, benchs) it would probably keep temps a lot lower if the fans are actually running -

Find some logs of TS of 8750H that other people posted, or if you have a 8750h, you can do it yourself and compare it to mine
My chip does 66W @ 3.9ghz and 45W @3.2 -
Here is one :

What I see on that linus link is that the 45W TDP limit is exceeded and it reached a peak frequency of 3990 MHz and stayed at that frequency for unknown time.
It's your choice how to judge a cpu, but I judge the quality of a cpu by it's exact voltage/frequency, not by it's power consumption (especially when exact frequency is not clear). -
He will get a power limit throttle too - and go to 45W like it should. But he's getting a lot more MHz for the watt. He didn't get a throttle in that log, but I'd imagine it would have been 3.7 on 45W which is pretty good.
Much better than 3.2 that I get. -
I spent many years on overclocking forums There is a simple (and accurate) way to judge whether you have a "bad" chip or a "good" chip.
Look at voltage and frequency in cpu-z, and compare it to similiar chips.
For example, my core i5-7300HQ (with 0.15V undervolt) runs stable at 3.1 GHz at 0.87 Volts.
A better i5-7300HQ would run (stable) at 3.1 GHz but with less than 0.87 Volts.
A worse i5-7300HQ would run (stable) at 3.1 GHz but need more than 0.87 Volts.Attached Files:

So you don't take watts into consideration - but I do - the 8750H is a 6Core CPU and it only has a 45W TDP - same as your i5-7300HQ which is 4 Core and needs a lot less power to operate - with 8750H there is no head room the turbo mode goes to 3.9 but it doesn't stay there for too long because it hit TDP limit and it goes back down under 45W, so whatever frequency your chip can do at 45W is what your CPU performance limit is. Mine is 3.2GHz, that other's dude is 3.7GHz.
And cinebench score means shiet unless you run the test with the CPU capped at 45W
I can run a single cinebench test and not get throttling and I can get 1270, but the second one will probably throttle.
You never had this issue I think cuz your CPU uses less power and do not hit power limit throttle
Understand now? -
If I were you, I would not use a test which gives unpredictable results on different runs.
cpu-z is a much better way to measure how "good/bad" a cpu is, because there is no power/thermal/turbo throttling to confuse us.Last edited: Jul 20, 2018 -
My cpu is not overheating it's well below 90C
The throttling I get is power limit not thermal -
-
the bubble of a good laptop seems to be slow bursting
shame. especially by far this was the best available choice in gtx 1070 laptops in the UK. Nothing else seems to be less than 1800 pounds. If only HP could fix thermals on this. Also, if this problem is shared by both the Omen 15 and new 15T. Different chassis. -
Cinebench tests last for 1 or 2 minutes, not enough to get temps that high
To get temps that high it needs to render longer than a minute
Power Limit throttle kicks in eons earlier than thermal throttle
You can always buy a laptop fan and lower temps - not even close as problematic as a hard limitation as power limit throttle which there is nothing you can do about it. Unless somebody knows how to remove it
I wish I had a thermal throttle... i'd just go buy a fan or turn on the ac lolLast edited: Jul 20, 2018 -
Did you buy the laptop to get a high cinebench score?

I wanna share my findings.
First of all, watch this video:
Second, if you havent watched the video a quick summary:
Fans are adjustable only in HP software (there is a normal profile where they dont go insane)
The TDP that is adjustable in BIOS and Undervolt BOTH cause you to hit lower Boost Frequencies if you overdo them. In the video it was stated that lowest undervolt without losing boost clocks is around 125. Next, Temps. Temps no matter the profile are balanced around 90 degrees CPU, which means even if you undervolt, up fan profile, the CPU will still reach 90 degrees, but instead much higher boost clocks.
That being said, there is not a single i7-8750H laptop on the market that does not hit 90 degrees. They all either throttle to the point of irrelevancy or they are super hot.
Very few reviews properly test this really hot hexacore, and its really hard to find good data on it, because noone runs a 10+ minute full burn test on them except very few (like the video I posted did)
If you think I am wrong on any statement, let me know, I would like to learn as well.technoboy likes this. -
thanks for the info but still doesnt work. not a big issue tbh but i hope other keys are not affected lol. still loving this laptop tho especially for the price. -
Idk but i dont mind the fans really. im just concerned with the temps frying out the motherboard. so far, with regular usage such browsing, movies, and web browsing, my usual temps at 40-50s that is without undervolt, laptop laying flat on table under room temperature, power throttled to "better performance" in the slider. will have to wait and see once im gaming if the system's gonna hold up, but so far overall, im quite happy with the this version of OMEN 15.

I think the fans are fine after the bios update, but I'm coming from the Dell 7577 which sounded like a fighter jet when just starting a game.
One thing I did notice after the bios update was the fan setting was changed to always on. Took me some time to catch that. -
From all the research I was doing before making a purchase, the omen 15 has the best balance of size and fan noise vs. performance I've been able to find without stepping up to a monster sized laptop. If you want really low fan noise your looking at something with a 15w proc and the considerably lower performance that trade makes, or massive heatsinks to keep up with the thermal output. Here with the latest bios you can always go in and drop the wattage on the proc to reduce performance and temps if whatever your doing doesn't need the full processor power.
I would love to see a setting in the Omen control panel to step the performance down one past default, perhaps integrating the wattage settings in the bios, to get the most battery life possible when not gaming with a demanding title, but just changing to better battery when not plugged in works well.
Some of the other things I like about this model vs others in it's price range or even the more pricey thinner units is the single 16GB DIMM, so you can easily upgrade to 32 if you choose, the 2.5 slot, vs just a single m2, for a cheap swap to a large SSD, decent battery size, and the keyboard is ok. Port arrangement is really good as well.
I'm not a fan of the screen. It's not terrible, just very average (reg 60Hz, auo23ed, no gsync, 144hz etc). I've managed to misplace my spyder, so I haven't made any attempt to calibrate it yet, but out of the box its pretty underwhelming. Very disappointed that OLED seems to be disappearing as an option on this generation of laptops. If someone would put out a 15ish with a decent OLED screen I'd be willing to work around a lot of other shortcomings just to have that screen.
Laptop review and owner threads are full of people with seriously unrealistic expectations. Your not going to get a 45w 6 core proc running over 4ghz without throttling and close to desktop class graphics in a 1" thin chassis and not have fan noise under load.Kaykoose and jcrazyblue4u like this. -

Jimsteve it was a cf of a review he didn't really prep everything... Even the tittle was wrong as it was a 60 hz panel, by far the most comprehensive review is bobs and imo he was even the first one to post it on social media... I've never been a fan of Mathew moniz though he tries hard to be funny or creative, he needs to refine his craft more... Worst thing of all I could say is he reviews thermals without doing the bios update.

I totally agree with you if you can manage to get the Mc price it would be the perfect laptop, also agree with you that a lot of forums do have unrealistic expectations on this unit I, as the hexa core processor is really hot in not sure the chassis can support a 1070... Im already waiting for this unit on black Friday to go up on sale then, but I'm still hesitant if the new gpus will hit the market then, there will always be the next big thing to hit the market then.. Sigh...

Jimsteve I really like that you shared the video dont get me wrong.. But the you-tuber was really bad in preparation could even read the specs correctly prior to the review I was really hopping he had the 144hz review but as soon as he unboxed the unit it just went downhill from there.. I really like your contributions to the forum and more power to you! Before I was eyeing the gu501 or even the GM501 series before this was released which put a wrench in my plans I was hoping to get a high performance low key laptop, instead of asus I'm planning to get this with a d brand skin

The GM501 is another one I am really interested in. I did see Acer helios 500, it comes to around 1700 pounds in the UK which is another sub 2000 pound option having the 1070. -
I tried about seven laptops so far. I've been chasing the SlickDeals posts since my previous computer (an HP gaming laptop that was almost 7 years old) died. I had been buying a lot of the laptops that have shown up on YouTube lately. This Omen and the MSI GS65 have been my favorites. But, the GS65 is twice as much. -
Interestingly, the dc0022na (1070 max q UK version) ran out of stock today

Yes, is the LGD05C0, same used in Aero 15 and others.

Now suddenly, many reviewers are saying because of the drop in cryptomining, there is a huge stockpile of 10 series gpus and Nvidia would prolly delay launch till end of the year and for first time launch both desktop and mobile gpus at same time. Past week, I have been seeing videos of huge drop in prices of current gtx cards, the lowest it has been this year atleast.
So, I guess it is really upto Nvidia when they want to launch the next 11 series. I am sure they are already working with many of the laptop manufactures to plan their laptops. But, they could be held back to just ease the stockpile of current 10 series.
Usually, its best to buy a computer and forget about upcoming tech news, as every 6 months there is either a new intel or storage or screen or gpu coming soon. A better reason to slightly wait would be the back to school discounts everyone gives in august to target all the students going back to college etc. So many are just waiting for the next series, its long due now.
