How are temps now? I have heard they recently updated BIOS and added a comfort mode in Omen Command center.

Something is still jacked.. Like literally the laptop has been off for hours.. I just turned it on and the temps are OK (57* at time of typing) but the fan is so annoyingly loud.. I have the latest BIOS and latest command center.. Comfort setting on and it's still too loud..
I actually have the box to sent it back to HP sitting in my living room waiting for repair but I'm just hesitant to send it as I don't know what they can possibly do to fix it..Shreys7 likes this. -
Hello All,
I purchased this HP Omen 15-dc0051nr 60hz screen yesterday from microcenter, and the laptop is great! But I noticed the screen is tinted yellow/orange, as you can see in the pictures compared to my other laptop. Yes I have turned off any color changing programs, is this normal? Should I get an exchange?

Had my Omen 15 dc0110tx for a few days now, my temps are low, started around 45-51 idle, but after removing some crap and UVing, back to 38-43. Haven't really gamed much yet so will see. Haven't used cooling pad yet, doesn't seem needed for idle use but def for gaming.
Fans are really nice and quiet, with flexibility in Command Center for further fan if you want it. Very happy given it runs a bit warm. -

I have registered with notebookreview so that I can thank Bob, and the other contributors on this thread. Based on the information here (all 41 pages of it) I decided to bite the bullet and buy the dc0022na variant (i7 8750H, 16GB, Nvidia 1070MQ,144hz screen), and I am not disappointed. So far I have done the following:
Cleaned up the bloatware
Installed and configured Throttlestop. CPU cache -125mv, and CPU -125mv, and the system is stable
Replaced the 1tb hdd with a 1tb Crucial MX500.
Installed a second 16GB sodimm enabling dual channel
Updated BIOS to F.07
Updated all drives and software packages.
Installed the latest Nvidia driver through GeForce experience
The updated firmware and Omen Command Center now enables three performance profiles, Comfort, Default and Performance.
Comfort ramps up the fans to bring down the CPU and GPU temperatures. The Fans aren't loud I barely notice them if there is any background noise). I've found that running in this profile not gaming both CPU and GPU run below 50C without a cooling pad
Default appears to be the same as in previous versions with non gaming usage, and results in slight increase in temps for both CPU and GPU (50-55C)
Performance pulls out all the stops, but is only required for gaming or other heavy graphics workloads. This ramps up the fans to max under load, and they are very noticeable, though not distracting. Headset recommended.
Gaming I have the same GPU / GPU temperatures as other have reported, with the CPU up to ~88-92C, and GPU up to ~85-87C, but with no thermal throttling (and I've been running games at Ultra setting to tax it). As others have said, this is pretty normal for a gaming laptop. I would prefer to not over tax the hardware, so I have also tested on a cooling pad, with excellent results. I went for the KLIM Wind. It's quiet, and while gaming appear to reduce internal temperatures by between 5 and 8 degrees.
Battery life seems in line with others on this thread, but that's fine for me. Its the compromise for a truly portable gaming machine. I did spend quite a bit of time researching using an ultra-portable (Dell XPS 15) with an eGPU (Gigabyte Aorus 1070 Gaming Box). Its a reasonably good solution, but ALOT more expensive, you lose the ability to game on the go, and the technology has some restrictions and issues with TB3 standards. All in all this is the right solution for me
Thank you all again. -
Mine died on me last night. Worked in the morning. Arrived home and won't power on at all. I handle played any games on it. I left it on a website, laptop completely ventilated. There is no indication of it even charging. The charger is working. I tested it with another hp laptop and it charges it fine. Had to contact HP to get a RMA. When through all the motions with them to test it. The support person believes the board is shot.

FYI in case somebody else has similar problem, everything was fine but after multiple updates my screen would start going blank after 1 min of inactivity despite power set to 10 min. It really drove me crazy until I found a fix: need to go to screen saver settings and first need to enable it (I had it disabled), then change the timer from 1 min to something more reasonable ( I set it to 240 min just to be sure) and then you can disable screen saver again if you want or leave it on. That fixed my computer going to sleep in 1 min. I'm still trying to figure how to go straight from sleep into desktop, without clicking on screen and then on log in. Nothing works, since my computer is not password protected (It's a gaming laptop, not a corporate server, for heaven sake).
Also, if your computer stays at 3.9GHz even when idling with close to zero activity (mine did regardless of power settings), there is a fix from Lenovo, that also works here (not sure if HP have it's own fix)
BTW love the laptop, hate Win 10. -
Anyone notice the "Comfort" setting the Omen Command Center is more suitable for gaming than "Performance"? It keeps the temperatures cooler because the fans are ramped up higher than Performance. I thought Performance was supposed to do that.

What I really can't understand and probably never will is the lack of user's ability to control them in any way whatsoever. I can understand they wouldn't want some users shut them down completely and burn the laptop under warranty for costly repair, but why I can't ramp them up, above preprogrammed settings? My older MSI at least have full fan speed button, that helps when playing games. Anybody knows of any program than could control those fans? Speedfan doesn't even show proper RPM. If I can't find any program that works, I'll cut the wires and wire them directly to power supply with some variable resistor in between for manual speed control and be done with this nonsense. BTW mine sometimes gets stuck at 4GHz, even at idle, not sure if this is by design, or a bug. The only way this gets fixed is if I change to power save mode, but I don't feel this is the proper way for this to operate.

Did you guys tried changing thermal paste? Will it cancel warranty? This is something that I was doing every time when I was getting new PC or laptop but I am not sure what is the HP policy for that in Omen series.

BTW was able to control fan speed with Notebook FanControl https://github.com/hirschmann/nbfc, HP Pavilion 17-ab240nd config works.

On mine those fans are so anemic I can't tell if they change speed or not and even set at 100% , my anemometer can't register anything, so exhaust air speed is bellow 50 ft/min. I won't try to repaste it until I find solution for better air flow, either outside cooling pad, or some more powerful fans to replace current one.
As far as warranty goes, I would speculate that if you do it right, no one will know you changed the paste, if you don't know what you're doing and mess things up (for example spill liquid metal on MB) I would expect HP not honor warranty due to user fault and rightfully so, IMO. -
It works well with my HP Pavilion 15t which has no software fan control.
I set the target fan speed to 37.5% and that gives a fixed (current) fan speed of 60% which is barely audible
When I play games, I use MSI Afterburner to show cpu/gpu temperature on-screen, to watch for over-heating. -
Does anyone have problems with audio Latency? I produce music, and when using the program the audio always clicks and pops, I ran latency monitor and the DPC latency is much higher than my older machine. Ive updated bios, reinstalled windows twice, and still the latency is horrible.
Here are my stats, it gets much higher

I get little less latency, but still too much, however at some point my CPU locked at 3.9 GHz and stayed there even at idle, not sure why (probably Win10 issue). When I ran latency test with CPU pegged at full frequency, all tests showed much lower latency. Somehow I fixed cpu issue, so now it goes down to 800MHz at idle, as it should, but I realized back then that it is one way to keep latency in check. You could try the same thing, get cpu to stay at higher frequency and one way to do this would be ThrottleStop (first thread in hardware forum) and probably you don't need full 3.9GHz, probably 2.5-3GHz should be good enough. I would suggest you set couple profiles and when not doing audio work, let it idle properly.
I'm assuming you already set power settings to performance and disabled all MS "customer experience/spying tasks", because thats the first thing you should have done. Good luck and let us know how it goes. -

I purchased this laptop from Microcenter as an open box about 3 months ago and started to notice the last few weeks that when I start it up the battery is like around 90% or so. This is after sitting overnight. I shut it down every night after I use it and it is almost always plugged in while using it, although I don't leave it plugged in overnight. After a while when using it the battery is usually fully charged but not sure what could be causing the drain. I did do some updates about 2 weeks ago recommended by HP so I am not sure if that did something or what. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
