Thanks Raphandryu, I hadn't thought of that. I was planning to pre-purchase the RAM before picking up the laptop but might not be the best idea.

Regarding price, the 1060 version is not currently available in the UK through the official HP site (may have been before but I can't remember exactly). Amazon currently have it at £1250 (144Hz screen) and the 1070 at £1600, and at this price I would go for the 1060. However, if you look on the HP site the 1070 version is currently reduced to £1500 and with a 7% voucher is £1395. An extra £145 for the 1070 and increased ram seems reasonable to me. It is a shame the official site doesn't have the 1060 version listed for some reason - maybe due to popularity (although if I remember it was with the suboptimal 60Hz screen to).

It's good that you're getting a good deal on 1070 max-q model. 1060 also comes with 144Hz screen.

The Omen command center only allows static and off for keyboard lighting. Did anyone attempt to mod the software to enable animations for the keboard lighting loike in olde omenx laptops and MSI/Razers? That would be cooler.

Raphandryu, there are 5 different video cards that come with the omen 15... 1050, 1050ti, 1060mq, 1060, 1070mq it really does depend on your application like esports titles tend to be frequency reliant, some games even are cpu intensive like bf 1, but to maximize you need to have the pc do dual channel memory IMHO so it may be 10% on paper here is a video that might help you out.

    ----
Does it really matter what you carry if you can't use it to its maximum potential?

Unfortunately not in my country. We have only 1050ti, 1060 and 1070 max-q available with omen.

Thanks for the video, it was quite informative and as you probably seen the results as well, it's similar to what I mentioned, 1070 max-q performs 5%-15% better than 1060, depending on the work/load and produces lesser heat.

Till now, I haven't seen any mods. You can get the animation lights like razer and MSI because in omen, keyboard have zone lights while razer and MSI have per key RGB. If it was per key RGB in omen as well, it would be cool for sure.

Interesting, that is the same panel as the latest Razor I think. Where did you buy the laptop from - HP direct or a 3rd party reseller? UK or elsewhere? Is your SSD Samsung or Toshiba? I don't have one yet so can't confirm, sorry.

I bought 15-dc0018nf. Only 8Gb and no SSD.

BTW who said the number of Ram is extremely important for 144hz screen ? I am trying to find some tests and the only one i found compared 4 to 8 to 16 gb... nothing linked to refresh rate...

I am really suprised about the screen difference betwen models, also, if you compared HP screen to Razor or Aorus, it's a GSYNC...so not sure it's really the same panel.

I think people were referring to the fact it is one ram stick (ie you have 1 x 8gb stick) therefore your machine is running single channel. by adding a second ram stick the machine will then use dual channel which gives slightly better performance.

Mine came with 1 x 16gb stick. I swapped it out with 2x 8gb when I added a 2tb ssd in place of the HDD. I was lucky enough to have 2x 8gb sticks spare as another 16gb stick would be expensive and I do not need 32gb at the moment.

thanks, do you know a brand compatible with the one already inside.
or do you recommend to sell the one inside and buy 2 x 8 gb.
what is the maximum our HP can handle 2666 or above ?

I just used 2x 2666 sticks pulled from a dell laptop. I have swapped ram around a few machines lately and not had any compatibility issues, just make sure you buy a reputable brand (Corsair, crucial, Kingston, Samsung or Hynix)
And you probably won’t notice the difference moving from 1x16gb memory stick to 2x8 but I have terrible pc ocd so I had to do it.

Here is the part breakdown for the 16GB on the Micron website https://www.micron.com/parts/modules/ddr4-sdram/mta16atf2g64hz-2g6

The 16GB ram is CL19, so no point paying extra for CL16 stuff. Crucial list compatible CL19: http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/hp-omen-15-(models-15-dc0000---dc0999)/CT12477014. Or you can just switch out the single 16GB and go with 2x8GB @ 16CL http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/hp-omen-15-(models-15-dc0000---dc0999)/CT12477027

I don't know how much difference there is from CL19 to CL16, others will be able to better advise whether 32GB @ CL19 is better/worse than 16GB @ CL16.

I will tell you on sunday :)

I have bought mine 1150€ and added 8go Ram + 1 x 970Evo SSD. For a total a 1300€ laptop. And I can bet nothing is equal to these performances and design into the market today. Even if I haven't tested it yet, but on paper it's good :)

Regarding repaste, why LM doesn't affect to much this laptop ? (according to the video at the beggining)

Guys, I've got 60Hz panel swapped out with BOE one. BOE panel is the one that installed into Xiaomi gaming notebook with 72% NTSC coverage. But replacing it is the pain. Plastic around the screen is held with double sided tape and as Bob said you will compromise integrity of your laptop lid anyway. Other and a lot more serious problem is that screen itself adhered to the lid with very strong adhesive. You can pull it off and there is the description about that in HP service manual, but you have high risk of damaging the panel itself. After you've removed the panel, you'll need to place another adhesive into the lid to make panel sit there. There are no screws holding the panel in place. Then you'll need to find double sided tape to place it on the inside of panel front cover. At the end of the day I am happy with result, but do not recommend to do that for everyone.
NOTE. Plastic on the front cover is thin and I've managed to melt and deform(you can see it in left lower corner at the photo) it while I was heating it with the gun, so be very careful about that.

Nothing really. Just live with it or if it's intolerable just return it( if you're still within return period). Mine have bleed too. I've just got used to it.

BUYERS BEWARE - NEW OMEN 15 T-DC0xx CTO (Customer Order) directly from HP (US) Store doesn't have RGB backlight feature!

I placed my order on Sep 4, 2018, and it was estimated to arrive on Sep 20, 2018. However, HP did an excellent job to deliver it to me on Sep 13 at 9 a.m.
    My spec:
    • OMEN by HP - 15t Laptop
    • 1 TB 7200 rpm SATA; 128 GB PCIe® NVMe™ M.2 SSD
    • Full-size backlit keyboard with numeric keypad and N-Key Rollover (Dragon Red Legend
    • 16 GB DDR4-2666 SDRAM (1x16GB)
    • Intel® 802.11b/g/n/ac (2x2) Wi-Fi® and Bluetooth® 5 Combo(MU-MIMO supported)
    • 15.6" diagonal FHD 144 Hz IPS anti-glare micro-edge WLED-backlit (1920 x 1080)
    • Windows 10 Home 64
    • No Optane
    • HP Wide Vision HD Camera with Dual digital microphone
    • 4-cell, 70 Wh Li-ion polymer
    • Intel® Core™ i7-8750H (2.2 GHz, up to 4.1 GHz, 9 MB cache, 6 cores)+NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1070 with Max-Q design(8GB GDDR5)
I wanted to get a better screen and GPU so I did a customer order from HP without knowing they would withdraw the RGB feature on my product.
I have tried to update and re-install the HP Omen Command Center but the result is the same: No lightning tab in the HP Omen Command Center.

HP Support will only provide the answer: Your product model does not support RGB lightning and link you to this document: https://support.hp.com/us-en/produc...pc/20329817/model/21869533/document/c05387497 to clarify the 15-DC model doesn't have RGB lights feature (which is extremely weird due to both Amazon and Microcenter are selling the 15-DC model with RGB option)

    Please beware!

I purchased this laptop only around $1200 only.
    Tips:
25% discount code - 25GAMER when you order
$150-$200 credit bonus from new credit card
6% to 10% off HP Gift card from raise.com or retailmenot.com

Hi, I think the 4 zone rgb lighting only comes with the white lettered key option. The red key version ( Dragon Red) is 2 zone with a red only backlight. I came to this conclusion after reading the tables/ feature options in the service manual. There is the pdf link on a hp support page https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/omen-by-hp-15-dc0000-laptop-pc/20329817/manuals . See the PDF "OMEN by HP 15 Laptop PC - Maintenance and Service Guide" page 17...

Full-size backlit 3-coat paint island-style keyboard with numeric key pad, 2-zone lighting, Dragon Red with red backlight

Full-size backlit 3-coat paint island-style keyboard with numeric key pad, 4-zone lighting, white with RGB backlight

Mine will arrive late next week. I ordered the white lettering version of the keyboard, so I will post back to confirm.

Also thanks to everyone in the thread for reviews and info about this laptop.

I do hope yours will arrive with the 4 zone RGB lightning. I contacted the support 3 times: 1st time with the Sale representative, 2nd and 3rd with Tech Support they both told me CTO 15 T model does not have this feature which is sad. Please let me know about your OMEN when it arrives. If you do have it, I'll return my immediately for a full refund and order the one with the white keyboard!

I am having the same situation too. The CPU is constantly running at max boost when plugged in. However, I tested both Overwatch and GTA V and there was no difference in fps with turbo boost on or off (2.2 GHz or 3.9 GHz, weird!). So I can play GTA V at ultra with the turbo boost off (60 fps) with CPU at 2.2 GHz and temp around 70 Celcius. Nonetheless, the area above the keyboard (the area with O M E N) letters are always hot like a pan on fire.

I have received mine, (custom order from HP) it has the 4 zone rgb lighting, white lettered keys.

For anyone wondering, I chose the GeForce 1070 with the 144hz screen. G-Sync works on the built in display with this combo. (the HP store is not clear about that either)

Hiya. Just wonder if your HP Omens experience a weird issue of being "sleepy"? Like my sleep timer is set to "Never" but oftentimes I find it sleeping when idle for a few minutes.

Am planning to buy dc0085tx model. I don't game, I edit videos occasionally (1080p).
Could anyone let me know the performance of this laptop in Premiere Pro and After Effects. Render times doesn't matter to me, am more interested in the actual editing performance like playback and scrubbing. My current setup stutters a lot in those areas.

Also, most of the time, the laptop uptime has to be around 12 hours continuous with just normal websurfing/youtube/movies. I see that this laptop gets heated up quite a bit. Would this activity for continuous 12 hours be ok or would it push the temps a lot?

My current laptop shuts down during rendering due to overheat. Does this happen in this laptop too?

Hi I just ordered one of these from Computer Upgrade King. From reading this forum it seems people recommend do a clean install of windows. My question is, do I need any of the HP software or can I just have windows fetch all the drivers?

My Omen has started running crazy hot at idle.. It's sitting at 86* with the fan blaring and all I'm doing is surfing.. I don't ever use it to game and just casually use it to edit videos.. Other than that, it's used for basic office tasks (word, excel, internet)..

I just updated to the latest BIOS and Command Center and that didn't seem to help.. Anyone else see issues like this? Roughly 3 months old..

    Thanks

Anyone knows how many ram slots this has? and also how much ram can each slot support? I was thinking of buying 32gb (2x16gb) but am not sure if this supports it

Hiya. This laptop has 2 RAM slots that can support up to 2666mhz speeds.

What's the difference between the hp omen 15-0051nr and the 15-dc0030nr? mine arrived and I wanted to update the bios but found out the serial number is different yet the specs seems to be the same (GTX 1060, Core i7-8750h, 16gb ram, etc)

    Hey there,

I posted in one of the other Omen threads but this seems like a more appropriate place.

How are people's thermals/noise going with the new Omens?
Also, what cooling pad do people recommend with this unit? (I'm sure it doesn't matter a TON which one, but some fit some models better than others..)

I am looking at the 15" with the 1070 Max Q. Wondering how much improved that graphics performance will be over the Omen with the 1060 (because we don't know if it's true desktop 1060 or mobile version, even if not Max Q version). Also I guess the Max Q 1070 is OC'able?

Curious to hear people's updated thoughts on this. Specs are killer, but usability is everything.
