Egou, did you received any reply regarding your question of why "the HP3500 series being withdrawn after only a few weeks"?.

-
The person I spoke to had no idea about what was going on. He initially said that they had to make room for new products. I then informed him that this was a new product. His Email totally avoided the question. I think this was someone who had written answers in front of him to read. It is very frustrating.

The 'laptopmag' website has a review of the DV3510NR posted.
My guess is that Best Buy worked a deal to get this model to themselves initially and it will show up again on HP's site after some contractually obligated time to once again be customized to your heart's content. -
thanks for the heads up on the review by laptopmag
-
thanks Egou... I really hate uninformed support people too
& thanks for the info kgraham11. -
Is everyone enjoying this laptop? I am very interested in getting one. Could you tell me what you really think about it, especially how the heat is.
Thanks -

I spent 15 minutes a month or so back arguing with a Dell Sales Rep about the availability of 64-bit Vista on specific models. I spent most of the time walking HIM through the steps to find them. I told him to keep an eye out for my bill!
I've been very curious to learn what's really happening with the dv3500t! First of all, why did they name the dv3500t when HP has been migrating to a single number naming scheme (dv2700t replaced by dv4t, dv6700t by dv5t and dv9700t by dv7t). Calling it the dv3t would be the consistent choice...but I digress.....
Electronista.com was one of the first to report that the dv3500t had disappeared. Because the dv3500t had disappeared from the HP.com website, they simply assumed it had been dropped without any sort of confirmation!
Along with the Toshiba E105-1402, the dv3500t (dv3510nr, more specifically) represent the BEST BUY Blue Label series of notebooks. Toshiba does NOT offer the E105 directly, it is exclusively available from BEST BUY. I'm betting that BEST BUY wanted exclusive rights to sell the dv3500t, same as with the Toshbia E105. -
for the price it has all the features, only gripe is no blu-ray...but I am hoping to be able to purchase it on its own and slot it in myself...considering in the box it comes with a weight saving module to replace the dvd-r/lightscribe.
the backlit keyboard is a very nice feature, i can type without looking but it definitely helps at night or in early morning..i was at a halloween party and needed to pull some files out and it was great...even if it does not help...it does look cool.
good compromise of weight and performance...no regrets -

HP seems to be faster than most competitors (Dell & Toshiba, especially) at identifying what customers want and making it available. Hopefully that will be the case with backlit keyboards! -
Hi there,
Long time since I've visited Notebookreviews.
Bought a DV3510nr yesterday from Future Shop in Canada (Best Buy Canada's sister store).
Opened the box and was surprised to see the warranty specifically state that it is ONLY for 1 year!
Even though BOTH their websites wwwfutureshop/ca & wwwbestbuy/ca clearly specify 2 year warranties, NO ONE in the store or at their 1 800 number for web orders concurred that the 2 year warrantees indeed existed for this product.
Everyone was passing the buck along.
Including HP 1 800 Support, who punched in the serial number into their database when I phoned them to inquire and said it came back as a 1 year HP warranty and if certain dealers (ie. Best Buy or Future Shop Canada) wanted to offer their own additional warranty for free or for $$s, that was their own business... not HP's)
Finally tonight someone at Futurshop.ca website called back and said it was a typo!!
"Sorry sir, but we reserve the right to make typos, blah, blah, blah, and will rectify the mistake within a day or 2."
We'll see what happens.
Meantime, I've printed out the advertising
Now, obviously I can't comment on Best Buy in the USA or Best Buy.com, since it clearly states on their website that Blue Label Products get the 2 year warranty.
No such "Blue Label" in Canada...

only the "blues" re. this issue.
grrr.
Any other Canadian owners of the dv3510nr have different experiences?
ps. FYI, I googled and noticed they (ie. HP) are officially selling them in France and Spain in their respective regional websites. -

Sorry you're having to deal with this crap...I hope you get it resolved without too much more hassle.
If not, is returning it an option? Or will you be subject to an exorbitant "re-stocking" fee? -
Hey, I recently purchased this computer through Best Buy ...I want to purchase an additional battery. How might i do this? Hp doesn't seem to carry it in their parts store. For some reason they took this whole computer off their site.
Anyways, any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks. -
Thanks Pilotsnoopy for telling me what you think of your laptop. If you don't mind can you tell me how the heat is on the system?
Thanks Again -
I'm still under the 14 day period. No restocking fee that I am aware of.
Yesterday was on the phone for over 45 minutes with diferent depts. of HP, all over the world....
No one was of help.
Googling the part number wasn't of much help either.
Accidentally stumbled across it (battery) on France's and Spain's HP sites.
Bonus? There is supposedly also a 12-cell version available! Check them both out.
Bad news? Back-ordered or unavailable this side of the Atlantic, AFAIK.
Wrote down the replacement model #s at home. Am at work now. -
Sealegs,
The batteries are on HP's site. Go to the battery page and search for DV3000. It has the 6-cell listed there for $129.99
They also have a support/driver page for us, so we're covered.

hey guys...
i love this thread but perhaps we can move it over to

I have no complains with the heat
it does get hot at times when doing heavy file transfers like a transfer of 50gb to my back up drive or ipod but those times i just leave the laptop on its own anyway.
oh maybe something i dun like...its a fingerprint magnet...
lets go over to the other thread should we -
Anyone running COD4 on this yet? If so, how playable is it and at what settings?
-
Any updates as to why HP pulled the dv3500t from their direct offering?

I still have a feeling it relates to Best Buy wanting it to be available exclusively from them. It is one of the two models that make up the Best Buy BLUE LABEL brand. The other BLUE LABEL model is the Toshiba E105-S1402. The Toshiba site doesn't sell the E105 either....they have all the specs and photos, but there's a little box that says "Available exclusively at- BEST BUY". Take a look if you're so inclined- http://explore.toshiba.com/laptops/satellite/E105/E105-S1402
Best Buy may have a contract that legitimately gives them exclusive rights to sell both of them. BLUE LABEL is their brand, it seems.
If that is the case, why did the dv3500t get posted to the HP website and sold just like any other model for a month? -
Maybe BB made HP a deal they couldn't refuse, like guaranteeing they'd buy a certain amount (I'm just guessing). Who knows, but businesses always do crazy things
I'm certainly eyeing one that's for sure. -
allfiredup Notebook Virtuoso
Pretty soon Best Buy will be the only big electronics store in metro Atlanta! All 16 of our Circuit City stores are getting the axe! I can't stand CC, don't get me wrong, but I like having their sales ad every week so I can get Staples or Best Buy (both near me) to price match their best sales!
But when CC isn't a local competitor anymore, no more price-matches!I've been reading several news items about the liquidation of inventory from the 166 (or so) CC stores closing. Wall Street Journal said not to expect fire-sale deals...I was hoping there would be some awsome HP and Toshiba notebook deals, but nevermind....on the upside, I don't have to go near one of their stores!
In the metro markets where CC is closing all stores, Best Buy is an overnight monopoly, sort of...guess we'll see if BB's prices spike!!! -
So I'm posting from the BB in Soho's display model. the screen is really sharp and compared to the DV5 they have next to it, its pretty cool, diling on the BB demo screen all day.
Is there anything I can run off the internet that shows me what this notebook can handle? -

The following is an excerpt form an email that I received from HP Customer Service. I sent an email earlier today inquiring about the dv3500t.....

The screen on this computer is vary comparable to other 13.3 and 15 inch models. I tried out a Sony FW-160 and aside from screen size I found both screens quiet bright and sharp.

Rockman000 - Search "srtest" on the demo unit at BB and this site allows you to test the laptops ability to handle pc games

I spent an hour on the phone with hp trying to figure out what happened to this laptop, with no luck.
then i just happened upon this forum, and, i got 1, ... its shiny -
For Canadian buyers:
I'm currently waiting confirmation from head office Futureshop (owned by BB Canada) whether the dv3510nr is covered by the 2-year warranty as specified on their Canadiian website, since EVERYONE at their stores insist it is a typo.
For Canadian AND US buyers:
Q? If HP doesn't carry the 3500 / 3510nr anymore, what happens when eventually in the near future, BB also drops it in exchange for a newer, different model?
Where will owners of this laptop be able to obtain support a couple of years down the line, if they need driver support, or batteries & other model-specific hardware??
Who to turn to? -
just take out the documents in the box...there is 1 which says it is a 2 year warranty and not the 1 year listed on the bottom of the laptop

BB's "Blue Label" brand consists of two models, for now. The dv3510nr and the Toshiba E105-S1402. Just like the HP, the Toshiba E105 is sold only at BB, not even ToshibaDirect sells it!
BB has a few exclusive verisons of the Toshiba Satellite A305 at any given time. Granted, those are just variations of an existing model sold by numerous retailers, but it's a common practice lately. I'm sure there are other HP exclusives around, too.... -
Ok,
Here's an update for those interested.
Still waiting for a confirmation reply from Customer service at Best Buy Canada head office. Seems they are confused too, since on my case-order, yesterday it specified that there has been questioning going on re. the warranty length. Definite answer still pending...
Yesterday, HP support still insisted all along it was only a 1 yr coverage for the Canadian dv5310nr...
F' this! No more patience with this monkeying around!
Went and returned the laptop (which did not have any sheet, whether 1/2 page or full page, specifying that the laptop had a 2yr warranty instead of 1). Future Shop store manager was advised of the discrepancy. He still insisted there must have been an error on the website.
As a last resort, went to Best Buy afterwards. Apparently they had just received a new shipment of the dv3510nr laptops.
Naturally, no one there was aware of the 2yr warranty either, despite it being right there on their website.
So as to not waste time bringing it home, only to return it afterwards, I opened the box in front of the sales person (after paying for it of course.)
Lo and behold and to all the salespersons surprise...
The famous 1/2 page (thin paper) slip explaining that this particular HP product is covered for 2 yrs, INSTEAD of the regular 1 yr was right there!!!
Meantime, people at head office are still probably scratching their heads.
Moral of story.
We're surrounded by a sea of mis-informed employees, sales people, managers in many of these big-box corporations. 2 big thumbs down to HP support, Best Buy Canada and Future Shop for this needless stress & wasting my precious time.
(On top of it, this was to FS,s salesperson's loss, since they're paid on commission. BB salespeople are not on commission (in Canada anyways).
Now that the warranty issue is solved for the time being, I hope that in the future, should it ever be needed, one won't have to face these musical chair / ping pong games between customer, HP, BB and FS, throwing responsibility back + forth to each other.
Allfiredup, thanks for the re-assurance re. ongoing support availabilty by HP as well as for the other tips you've provided!
Nevertheless, just to be sure, I strongly recommend other dv3510 owners to image their computers asap, just in case driver/software support for this model becomes hard to obtain, down the road, since it isn't on HP's site for the time being.
Cheers.
Rickk -
Here's the most recent e-mail.
While head office is still scratching heads and investigating, I have the all-important 2 yr warranty slip.
Still a wee-bit nervous though.
Will keep you guys posted.

i will go for this if portability wasnt my concern...what a good deal...
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...oduct&id=1218012194815#tabbed-customerreviews -
the dv3510nr and getting this one. It's $200 cheaper and has a blue ray
drive and allot better GPU. The only downfalls are the aforementioned absence of portability and the lack of bluetooth, backlit keyboard and fingerprint reader. -
Re: dv3510 nr... Is the mute button that's to the left of the slider volume sli control supposed to work as your finger across it? Or do you have to go to the system tray volume controls to make it work. My mute button doesn't respond to touch, but when I go to the sustem tray and mute it from there, it works. Could it be defective?
-
Push it with your finger for a second and it will turn orange. If your finger is cold it may take an extra second. I love the notebook, but I do worry about drivers etc in the future because of the limited numbers sold only at Best Buy.
-
Can anybody tell me, you DV3500 have back light of the keyboard? today in the shop a found that our models in Latvia do not have back light very strange, even no symbol on space bar, I thought it is standard option?

Hello guys,
Cnet's review of the dv3510nr was posted today and they made it editor's choice for November 2008!
Check it out!

Wow, that's a very nice review.
I'm wondering if here in Europe a version with keyboard backlighting will be sold, the same as the BestBuy one in the US... Strange not being a standard for this particular laptop. -
Here's an update for those interested.
I had said (on Nov 6th):
She basically re-assured me that the dv3510nr is INDEED covered by a 2-year manufacturer's warranty.
She also provided a cutomer case number, an e-mail confirmation and her agent number i.d. so that I may use as necessary in the future... should HP still insist on only a 1-year warranty according to the serial number (as they've been doing up until last week. Haven't found time to re-try this week yet.)
How's that for good results & customer service in the end, from Best Buy & Future Shop (albeit after a somewhat longish and frustrating wait)?

nice video review in CNET: HP Pavilion dv3510nr

Can someone look at the manufacturer and model for the display please - with a special program or in control panel? You can use EVEREST or PC Wizard to check your screen manufacture. Please comment on its quality too (colours, viewing angles, brightness). Thanks!
