i have the dv6z-7000
its my first laptop and i love it.
i think build quality is one the best for these AMD A10-4600m processors
its very sleek, cool black brushed alum finish, backlit keyboard makes others jealous and its greta for late night gaming sessions, 4 usb ports, touchpad works good, screen is well.... its a cheap 1366x768 res TN panel its basically industry standard (unfortunately) it works so whatever, i wasn't about to spend an extra $150 for the 1080p screen which ive read is night and day difference. but thats up to u, the 1366x768 is fine for my use.
battery last a long time for web surfing
HP Pavilion m6-1000 Review (HP m6-1035dx)
this review got 7hrs and 40min on their test.
ive had no problems so far, its runs quiet and cool, only when gaming hard does it get hot but thats with any gaming laptop.
speakers are fine and can get pretty loud.
i think its the best gaming laptop for under $650
it does hit 3.2ghz eventually
by the way cool little program -

im going to be getting an hp Dv6z soon
with an hd 1080p screen
should i go with the a10-4600m + 7670m? or the 7730m?
I see that it excells in xfire supported games, but id just hate to be in crap low settings in only single gpu supported games
What would you guys do? -
mmm id say to be safe get the 7730m but the 7670m is a good option as well...lol its a hard choice...if only they offered a 7970m id make it easier haha
-
Could I ask what the highest temps are that you observed, for example during 3dmark11? The reason I ask is that my Samsung gets up to 90 degrees max during this test.
-
I'd say max temps for my dv6z-7000 with 7660g+7670m in 3dmark11 is 70 C
It's definitely an effeciency platform and cooling solution and it doesn't sound like a vacuum.
I'm happy -

Hi,
Just tripped over this forum tonight. This thread was very informative. Still making up my mind whether to get one but pretty interested now. Next step is to find one in a local BestBuy or something and see if I can get linux to recognize most of the hardware or not.
Below is a link to an HP article that describes the behavior they're expecting from having discrete and integrated AMD graphics and how DirectX 9, 10 and 11 behave as well as OpenGL.
Switchable Graphics on Notebooks Configured with Dual AMD GPUs - HP Customer Care (United States - English)
Someone also asked about quality earlir. I can add a little to that discussion from personal experience.
At least some HP assembly is done in the US at a facility in Indianapolis, IN. Or it was several years ago. As I recall, HP rented it out to a company owned by the same people as Foxconn. They had some rather weird business practices at the time. Employing hundreds, possibly thousands of new people via temp agencies to assemble a product run then dumping them all a few months later once the run was done. I did QA for a few months there. It wasn't a bad place to work aside from the temp binge/purge issues. Of course those issues made QA decidedly non-optional. Had to check every system. After that the systems went through a quick software based test then a multi-hour burn-in period where random hardware blips and bad cabling jobs and such would get weeded out.
Things may well have changed since then but that's roughly what I recall of the quality checking anyway. -
-
I used to kick myself for not getting the 7670m (that's what I get for buying a laptop before any reviews are out), but now I'm finding the 7730m to be capable on its own. Yeah, with dual graphics, the 7660G + 7670m bench better, but currently the 7730m performs better in games (according to notebookcheck.net). The 7660G +7670m might perform on par with, or better in the future though, so we'll have to wait and see. Either way, you'll get a laptop that is quite capable of playing modern games. -

Can someone clarify something for me?
1. 7660G+7670M=dual-graphics/asymetrical crossfire/muxless seamless dynamic switchable graphics
2. 7660G+7730M=Enduro/muxless seamless switching
Enduro isn't meant for 1 correct?
Sent from my SPH-M580 using Tapatalk -
Enduro is "switchable graphics" with a new name from what I'm seeing.
AnandTech - AMD
Personally I'm thinking I'll go with the 7730M. It doesn't crossfire but I'm more concerned with making sure it works well in linux than getting the best numbers. And it's got some upgrades to the internal power layout of the card over the 7670M that sound interesting for mobility and battery life. -
noticed the new dv6z for AMD dont have the 7730m option anymore only 1 or 2gb 7670m
FYI there is a new bios for the dv6z-7000
Bios F.13
anybody have any idea what this does/improves?? -

Hi,
I have just bought the DV6 7002AX in Sydney Australia for my kid for high school. Every seemed OK until we came to actually taking the Laptop to the school and trying to use the school WiFi. The school WiFi runs on 5GHz and I now find out that the 7002AX WiFi Card (a Broadcom 4313GN 802.11 b/g/n 1x1 WiFi Adapter = 2.4GHz) can not work with that system and even more annoying I find out that I can not change the piece of junk WiFi Card that comes with an otherwise pretty cool laptop because HP has placed a "whitelist" in the BIOS of the Laptop of which WiFi cards that Notebook can or can not use.
The 7002AX I have is using BIOS F.06.
I want to use a Dual Band WiFi and probably an Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6235 but I have read on the Net that the 7002AX as a function of its BIOS "whitelist" will just fail to boot.
The two hopes I have are a thread on this forum http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-pavilion-notebooks/670937-dv6-7xxx-dv7-7xxx-.html and the idea of Modding the BIOS over at My Digital Life This is no request thread! HP COMPAQ bioses, how to modify the bios? and at BIOS-MOD.com Bios Mods -The Best BIOS Update and Modification Source - Wifi / WWAN Whitelist Removal.
Anyone else had this problem with the 7002AX and solved it?
Is this of interest, as it is a big deal to me and I would think it would be a key factor in why a lot of people buy laptops i.e. to be portable and then to probably want to use the WiFi Internet. Bummer with the current 2.4GHZ Card if you want any kind of download/up load speed.
Nearly forgot .. the only other thing I read somewhere was that, the success the guys in the "intel-dual-band-wifi-cards-work" thread got with using different WiFi Cards, was because they were using BIOS version F.06.
Maybe why HP is so keen to upgrade the BIOS for the 7002AX.
When I checked BIOS Updates on-line at HP it only now offers F.05 as the old/current version and I think F.13 as the new version. No F.06??
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. -
im sorry to hear that...im sure you aren't the first person with this problem at the school since not many laptops have dual band wifi. have you talked with the IT department at the school?
even though its not on the whitelist this guy got a Bigfoot Killer Wireless N 1202 2x2 half mini-card to work
http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-...ssions-teardown-pics-schematic-request-8.html
found one on ebay
Bigfoot Killer Wireless N 1202 2x2 Half Mini PCIe with Bluetooth 4 0 | eBay
not sure if this helps
i guess u can always get an external usb one -
Thanks for the suggestions. The school's WiFi system is 5GHZ but I have covered my rear end by buying both a Netgear WDNA 4100 N 900 USB Wireless Dual Band Adapter and an Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N 6235
Multi-stream, dual-band Wi-Fi + Bluetooth* 4.0 card to try in the 7002AX.
Gonna try the Installation as per the instructions on http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-...ntrino-6235-dv6t-7000-probably-dv7t-well.html
It even has pictures so hopefully even a dummy like me can follow it.
If that doesn't work I guess I am back to My Digital Life and BIOS-Mod to ask for an individual "whitelist fix/mod" for the 7002AX/DV6z-7000 with BIOS AMD F.06.
If I can't get AMD F.06 (find an original download of BIOS AMD F.06 dated 30/4/2012) then I may have to go for a "whitelist fixed/moded" version of the latest BIOS Upgrade AMD F.13
I found a BIOS AMD F.06 ( ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp54001-54500/sp54173.exe) but for a dv4-4XXX here on the forum http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-pavilion-notebooks/595505-current-hp-pavilion-bios-releases.html They aslo have a AMD F.13 there.
Anyhoo, worst case the USB will have to do and hopefully if I try I will not brick the laptop with the card or the "modded/fixed whitelist" BIOS.
Keep the advise coming. -
Edited post.

Hi,
Just to finish this of on a positive note. Despite my total lack of technical competence I have just installed the Intel Centrino Advanced N 6235 in my kid's Pavilion DV6 7002AX (DV6z-7000) Trinity AMD Laptop and everything is working.
Rebooted, uninstalled the old Broadcom drivers then installed the recommended N 6235 Drivers. A bit of fiddling with my Fritz.box Router and I am getting 300Mbps speeds.
Thanks to all for their hard and pioneering work on this issue.
It works .... I can hardly believe it ........... after all the "no way's" I got from HP.
Spread the word, as there are lots of frustrated HP Pavilion DV6-7XXX and even DV7-7XXX owners out their thinking and being told that they are stuck with steam driver old WiFi Cards.

Hi guys!
Anyone knows how to add bluetooth to a DV6-7210US? is a separated module or I must replace Wi-Fi and Add a WiFi+bluetooth module, and which one I need to buy?
Thanks -
The worst thing about the dv6 models at the moment is got to be the crap wireless card that is fitted to it.
Actually this year I have also had an Envy 4 and a dv4, all of which have to terrible wireless cards. Max is 72mpbs but once transferring data usually drops to ~40mbps or less going up and down.
Yea absolutely rubbish, very poor considering old model from the last couple of years from HP have far better wireless cards and even then they were not that great, but enough.
I have tried to tweak the newer wireless cards, but nothing really can be changed to make things better. -
Hi guys,
My sister want to buy a DV6-7210us, is a nice laptop and perfect for her. But she wants bluetooth, and this one don't have it. Is easy to replace the WiFi module and add one bluetooth+wifi module on it?
Thanks for your help! -

Yes crossfire support this is some really big news for the 7730M, where a lot of people said that crossfire was going to be impossible with the current Trinity APU's and newer 7730M with GCN, I to have recently moved to a dual boot Windows 7 and Windows 8 and with that I was able to install the latest drivers on Windows 8 directly from AMD, where as Windows 7 caused me a host of issues to upgrade the driver set.
Here is the money shot of Crossfire working, the quick testing app is dx9 based btw. Also check GPU-Z shows crossfire enabled, and the Control Center options.
Also quick tested Far Cry 3 at 1920x1080, and was able to run smoothly enough on medium settings, even setting it to high was playable.
Before crossfire with just the 7730M it was smooth on low, and medium was playable, but high was not playable.
Ok, now for some 3Dmark11 scores, definitely up from the stock 1643 score of the 7730M on the first page, hitting 2230 in crossfire.

So then does this mean the MSI GX60 with the A10 7660g and 7970m can now crossfire? Aswell as the Asus N56DP?
Sent from my SGH-T889 using Tapatalk 2 -
How is the micro-stuttering issue though? It was horrible with the DV6z I had with A8-3530MX + 6750m. I found performance nearly similar with an aggressively overclocked 6750m without crossfireX. The CrossfireX seemed to do best when the dedicated GPU was run stock, so there was marginal gain compared with running just the dedicated overclocked.
Some games didn't exhibit microstuttering or it was minimal, and some people aren't as sensitive about it, but it was horrible for me. 60 FPS felt like 12fps because of it.
Considering how CPU bottlenecked the A10 is, and it'd be fighting for APU resources with the iGPU, and the complete mismatch in performance between the two GPUs (7660G + 7970m) any CrossfireX gains with a 7970m would be purely for benchmarking imho. -
i was playing with this that maybe u can use for testing...
FRAFS Bench Viewer | Free Audio & Video software downloads at SourceForge.net
use this along side fraps.....might help illustrate any micro stutter in a crossfire setup , since frame times testing has become so popular recently.
im gonna test my 7660g +7670m later this week when i get time. -

Hi guys,
I just bought a Trinity powered laptop a few weeks ago (Asus N56DP) and I was messing around with it trying to gain a higher score in 3DMark Vantage and 3DMark 11 :hi2:
Here are the laptop's specs:
A10-4600m 2.3Ghz/3.2Ghz
HD7660g + HD7730m 2Gb
8Gb ram DDR3 1600Mhz
1Tb HDD
Windows 8 64bits
Everything went fine, I undervolted the apu a bit using AMD Overdrive (2.3Ghz @ 0,925v / 2,7Ghz @ 1,0250v / 3,2Ghz @ 1,1250v) it's stable and a lot coolerI also overclocked the 7660g's core to 1300Mhz using the same software, I'm currently trying to figure out what are the maximum frequencies I can get out of my 7730m
The problem I have is: I read that someone here used PSCheck to lock the A10 to it's 2,7Ghz turbo core frequency, so I wanted to do that as well, I downloaded PSCheck, and tried to run it.. But it just won't run.. Nothing happens when I double click on the icon, but the software is opened according to the tasks manager, but I have no UI.. I tried installing it in a different folder, I tried running it in compatibility mode, I also downloaded it from a different website.. I just can't get it to workI googled my problem but it looks like I'm the only one experiencing this issue, so I was hoping that maybe someone here could help me out
What do you guys think about that ? By the way, I was wondering, does the Catalyst 13.2 Beta worth the upgrade over the 13.1 at the moment ?
Thanks! -
You can overclock the igp (7660g) in amd overdrive?
What are yur 3dmark11 scores for the A10 with igp overclock?
Edit...sweet it does!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0qpxhINN_Z0&feature=youtube_gdata_player
I need to try 1866 memory now -
Hi Tbone,
Yes, the latest version of AMD Overdrive let you play with the 7660g's coreit is stable even at a speed like 1300Mhz (Maximum Overdrive will let you go), and the Igpu still runs cool enough (Under 70c while playing Battlefield 3), in fact, getting some 1866Mhz memory would probably make it run even faster
Unfortunately, I don't see any huge improvement in 3DMark.. Here are my current settings and the scores I get:
A10-4600m (2.3Ghz @ 0.9250v / 2.7Ghz @ 1.0250v / 3.2Ghz @ 1.1250v)
HD7660g (1300/800) + HD7730m 2Gb (630/1075)
8Gb ram DDR3 1600Mhz CL11
1Tb HDD
Windows 8 64bits
3DMark Vantage:
P7634
GPU 8078
CPU 6553
3DMark 11
P2340
GPU 2432
Physics 2486
Combined 1709
By the way, i'm still having the same problem with PSCheck as described in my previous post, and while looking at the tasks manager, I noticed that PSCheck is causing a memory leak, it uses more and more memory each second, until the computer crashes after like a hour or so.. Any ideas on how to solve this ?
Thanks! -
D3 can, you run 3DMark only on the 7660G with and w/o the overclock? Also, could you try some games? Overdrive has let you change the frequency for a while, but it never seems to stick. Some people have said it doesn't increase 3DMark scores, but helped in game frame rates. Maybe we can get a definitive answer?
-
Yeah sure, i'm on it! I'll post my results in a few hours
-
The 7660g overclock sticking I think might have something do with whether your on win 7 or 8
Nice 3dmark11 score!
Not sure about PScheck...maybe do a google search see if anybody has same problem.
Does this thread help?

So yeah, I think that overclocking the 7660g definately gives a sweet performance boost, it's easy to see according to 3DMark 11's results
Thanks for the thread Tbone, I'll take a look at it -
Strange that it would give a performance boost on 3DMark but not on the games. I wonder what causes that behavior..
-
Well, the minimum fps seems to have increased by 4-5 in every games that I played today, except Most Wanted, this is quite noticeable when playing
I was playing with my ram timings this afternoon, which are 11-11-12-28-39 2T and I managed to get 11-9-9-24-34 1T and it gave me 300pts + in 3DMark Vantage and around 50-60pts + in 3DMark 11, if you guys want to try tightening your timings, the gain is quite noticeable too! and as far as I've been able to test it, it seems very stable
I now get these scores:
3DMark Vantage
P7922
GPU 8414
CPU 6740
3DMark 11
