I HOPE that mine has no problems!!![]()

I got mine today. Looks cool. Thiner and lighter than ZD8000. runs Cool and Quit. only thing I am concern about is there is a very small clip on left corner by screen, which helps to turn of screen when we close the laptop cover, and it will have to be taken care of.
Wireless connection picked up but in compare to Intel 2200 (I had that in dell 9300) it's weak. 2200 was showing full signal where this was low. However it works well.
And, AC Power Plug in is on left side instead back so it's something different. -
Hi chrish,
conratulations,
Hope you enjoying your new toy, did they send you XP CD along with Notbook?
If we order single HDD now, later if we want to add seceonf HDD, is there slot?
Please clarify.

Hi all,
I'd like to share my first impressions about the dv8000t.
I ordered this machine on Mar. 12, and it was delivered on Mar. 23. I was surprised because the Estimated ship date on the website shows Mar. 24 - therefore they didn't provide the tracking number. Lo and behold, it was delivered 1 day earlier.
The machine was shipped without the XP recovery CD. At the time when I ordered, there was no option for the $10 recovery CD. I called them a few days back regarding this, and wanted to add it to my order, however, they said that they could not add anything to the order because of their fast paced fulfillment process - or something along those lines - hmmm...
Bloatware is insane - so I want to do a fresh install. I'm going to grab an OEM XP Pro CD from work to do it. Apparently the "Create your Recovery CD" option installed on the laptop will do a "Fresh Factory Install" - without the ability to create partitions and what not.
The screen is very nice. I got the regular BrightView 1440x900. There is a hint of light leakage at the bottom but that was heaven-sent given that I had horrible light leakage on a Dell E1705 - which I returned so that I could get the dv8000t. The Dell had leakage up towards the middle of the screen!
The case build is pretty solid. I have to say that Dell E1705 is a little better. On a scale from 1-10, the HP is an 8 and the Dell is a 9. I do prefer the HP styling over the Dell though. Also a plus is the numeric keypad.
The fan on the dv8000t did come on quite frequently. It is pretty quiet and doesn't bother me at all. There's another thread about a dv1000 with a "plane-like" fan - so maybe it's up to the user and how tolerant you are.
After about 4 hours or so, the palm-rest area got a tiny bit warm. I believe the hard drive is under there.
Sorry, I dont know much about benchmarking or whatever. I'm not a gamer - I just develop web pages so I'll be running several instances of SQL Server, VS.NET, and maybe the occassional Photoshop. We'll see how that turns out.
Finally, the HP backpack, which was an option during the customization process, is not a good fit. I posted this in another thread somewhere.
Hope this helps some of you. -
Thanks to everyone for sharing info. It does help and is much appreciated.

no reinstall cds, no extra slot of hard drive.
Out of 80GB harddrive, mine shows 54.8 free space (I installed about 1 gb software), Total Size is 66 GB, can't belive other 14 GB just gone.
Regarding Fan, This Computer Runs very Cool, I left it on and used for straight 4 hours and can't even feel it warm. Fan does job but I can't even notice when it's on, but looks like it turns on once every 30/40 minutes I guess.
I don't know about E1705 but I had Dell 9300 that I bought and returned in 3 days about 2 months ago, and this one is better looking in quality for me. I feel it's worth money I paid for where i had opposite feeling about dell 9300 which looked just cheap quality.
I only play one Game, EA sports Cricket and it looks very good, actually better than ATI that I tried in HP ZD8000. Nvidia does good enough for me and runs cool. -
Mine also runs cool. Had it on my lap for a few hours, super impressed it didn't get too warm to comfortably use. And that was at full processor speed, with wireless and bluetooth...
My old zt3000 got warmer
I'm reloading mine, and killing the recovery partition, leaving the other partition for quickplay though. -
If you can, anyone please post some pictures and write up a review, I am considering this laptop as my first.
-
I 2nd the pictures =]

Is there an international warranty on this laptop?
I plan to order it from Canada. Shall I be covered by HP Canada if I order from US? -
Well the reviews are starting to trickle out into the world...

Finally.
It's just arrived. I've got to return to work, but first impressions:
The 17.0" WXGA+ Ultra BrightView Widescreen (1440x900) is stunning. I'd like to compare it to the non-Ultra screen.
The keyboard keys are responsive with a pleasant amount of feedback.
And hey, they don't call it a desktop replacement for nothin. It is a large machine.
I'll post photos and a more detailed review this evening. -
So big questions is
brightview 1650x1050 or Ultrabrightview 1440x900 ? -
I haven't seen Ultra Bright View but Bright View screen I have seen both 1650x1050 and 1440x900 resolution.
First, Ultra Brighview and Brighview. Difference is more light in Ultrabright view. I would go with Brightview, as it's glossy enough and far better than anyother glossy screen upgrades I have seen and I don't see no better reason to pay 100 Bucks more on that.
Between 1650X1050 and 1440X900, I choose 1440X900. I generally do websurfing and also use macromedia fireworks for image editing. If you are a professional with good eye than go for 1650X1050, it has large resolution so you can see more of image for example. If your image is 1750X1150 than you can get almost full view of it. on 1440X900 you will have to use scrollbar.
However, 1650X900 resolution doesn't mean you will see lot more. Ofcourse it will fit more, but wouldn't make it look bigger. Easiest way to explain this is opening a microsoft paint and Zoom in or Zoom out Function. this will Zoom little bit out so you can see more, but than if you have bad eyes you will be annoyed a little.
anyway, 1650X900 can be descresed to lower resolution, so if you have Extra 100 or 50, it's your choice to spend it. In General, BrightView 1400X900 is decent option. -
-
I am going to have to buy a new case; it definitely won't fit into my existing luggage. -
-
-
I would imagine it ships with 533Mhz RAM, but I bet HP support would know more about it.
And as far as I know, you don't need the same speed RAM. The 667Mhz will underclock to 533Mhz... I think. -
Is the video card in it using that standard to where u can take it out and put in another? I think it is called MXM.. people haven't really mentioned this yet or weren't sure. -

I also have purchased a dv8000t with the Nvidia 7400 128m (shipped yesterday). When I was customizing the notebook I click on the NVIDIA 7400 for more info and I got the following info:
256MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7400
The NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7400 with 128MB discrete video memory delivers home theatre quality of high-definition video on your notebook PC. The 7400 provides sharper 3D action video and brings graphic-intensive applications to life. Experience superb picture clarity and precise, vivid colors! NVIDIA's PowerMizer(TM) technology enables the most efficient power consumption to deliver longer battery life. Additional 128MB allocated by sharing system memory. Shared video memory (UMA) uses part of the total system memory for video performance. System memory dedicated to video performance is not available for other use by other programs. NVIDIA and GeForce are registered trademarks of NVIDIA Corp.
Now when I go to the site and look at the 7400 it say 256m but the info on the card is the same:
256MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7400
The NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7400 with 128MB discrete video memory delivers home theatre quality of high-definition video on your notebook PC. The 7400 provides sharper 3D action video and brings graphic-intensive applications to life. Experience superb picture clarity and precise, vivid colors! What's up with that? Maybe a HP marketing ploy?

Not Complaining just wondering: -
btw, I've been playing Command and Conquer: Generals and Counter Strike:Source on my old desktop. The card may not be meant for high-end gaming, but I've been blown away by how much better it is than my old setup. Very nice. -
The Nvidia 7400 go uses turbo cache I believe and you can dedicate or at least make available another 128mb of memory from system RAM. There's probably a setting in the Bios to allow you to dedicate or share another 128mb of memory to the video card - 128mb on board, another 128mb shared from system memory for a total of 256mb.
-
Guys, my dv8000t shows 512 MB memory for the NVIDIA Go 7400. I couldn't figure out a way to find if it's dedicated or shared memory. I checked in driver properties, system information, device manager, and even BIOS.
Can you tell me how and where I can find this info? -
My dv8000t is only a few islands away. Interesting how it went from China to Indiana to Tennesse and then to Honolulu. O`ahu... If you ask me, they passed Hawaii the FIRST time it left when it departed from China!
Go 7400 with 512MB? -
haha that suck red phoenix!
Just checked and my lappy just arrived to Alaska from China today. Expecting it to arrive monday morning hopefully -
Hi,
where did you order it from and is there an international warranty on this laptop?
I plan to order it from Canada -
-
Received my dv8000t this afternoon... And my BUILD date was March 30. Pretty cool!
-
anirudhn:
My 7400 Go on my 5000t says the same thing, 512MB of video memory.
Kinda weird since nothing was ever mentioned about it having shared memory, at least on my model. Listed as just a 128MB card.
384MB is a lot of system memory to be shared to a video card.... -
My system RAM is 1 GB. The version of BIOS in dv8000t does not show any details about the graphics card / VRAM. -
-
I think HP over estimate on the build time. (10days) My lappy was built about 7 days after I ordered.
-
My video card says 512MB as well, but when I ordered it, it said it was a 256MB on the website...
I'm alittle confused... And also, what tool do I need to overclock the thing?
I have 2gig ram btw -
what is the go 7400's desktop equivalent? I have a 6800 gs in my desktop can it perform on par or better then that?
-
Not sure what the exact equivalent is, but my 6800gt in my desktop is far beyond the go 7400 in my laptop.
Oblivion runs at High settings in my desktop with same amount of ram but slower cpu speed.
Runs at medium settings in my laptop.
Just an example. -
Yo spyder, what resolution you have oblivion on? Elder Scrolls 4 is like the top of the line game out right now and my zd8000 (with the 256 X600, 1 gig ram, 5400 RPM) i run it at 640 by 480 on LOW detail... AND IT'S STILL CHOPPY!!! I'm really interested to hear the comparison...
-
so far love this machine. only two things I found little annoying so far, Speaker quality is not the best, ZD8000 Speaker were better, they were louder and didn't even tear the voice little bit when you put on high. Where as DV8000 Speaker very close to zd8000 being loud, but quality of voice feels like sometime it's tearing up. Also on right side of touch pad, below it, boad flexes easily, so built quality is little low but it's alright.
-
I run it at 1280x800, the native resolution on my notebook.
Doesn't look as good as it does on my desktop, but still runs pretty good. -
I never thought I would say this but...
Right now my dv8000t is blazing. Very fast and can handle all my stuff I throw at it. Now my only thing I noticed so far, and its pretty annoying is the shutdown.
does anyone else have the same problem as i do, that when you try to shutdown or restart, it takes a LONG time? -
Merkaba: My startup/shutdown times are ok.
But my issues with this notebook are:
- I am unable to find out if this one has a builit-in microphone (if it has, I could not get it to work)
- The HP diagnostics for video adapter fail (try it at: http://h20278.www2.hp.com/HPISWeb/customer/SelfHelp.aspx?region=NA&country=US&Acheck=normal)
- Cannot change RAM allocation for the video adapter -
I also have a major problem with my laptop I just recently figured out.
Everything is runnin ok, but when I tried to move my laptop to another room, the battery dropped out. I don't know if I'm just not doing it right, but I can't seem t get it locked it. I can get it to pop out easy but not stay in.
I'm afraid I'm going to have to return the computer for another one if this problem ca't be fixed, I spent way to much money on it to have a problem like that.
I hope they let me keep the HD cause I don't want to install everything again.... -
I've refrained from saying anything about this so far, but I received my dv8000t last week and the second I hit the power button...SCREEEECH! My video card fan is wailing like a mofo. Even during normal operation, when the fan goes on it screeches and makes a ticking sound. Very annoying
HP support just received my laptop today and the estimated return date is 4/11 :/ -
mine is so far good. Fan Turns at full speed soon as hit power button to turn, which is normal and good as it clears up dust.
shutdown is normal. Fan stays on mostly when playing game but computer stays cool and doesn't make noise so works, however I do recommend using cool pad just to keep it about inch up to leave more space (more air circulation) for fan below while playing games as I noticed below it gets little warm after which is only because hot air blowing out. -
I ordered it on the 30 with 2.0 duo and 2 ram. I received an email saying it has shipped even though the estimated date was the 20th. I am soooo excited. I can't wait. I will try to post some pics or share my experience when I get it. Thanks for all the feedback guys.
