Is anyone else having trouble getting display to an external monitor through the VGA port of their dv8000t? I received mine from HP on March 21. During boot-up, the external display works, but once the nVidia drivers load, the monitor no longer receives a signal. After the HP repair center was stumped by the problem, they sent me a new system -- and it has the same issue.
One minor design complaint about the dv8000t. It has no screw holes on either side of the VGA port to allow a VGA cable to be fastened securely.

I just got my dv8000t delivered on April 21st, 2006..I love it.. I ordered it sometime around March 20th or so..The build date was for April 20th. I had it on April 21st. My specs are as follows:
- HP Pavilion dv8000t CTO NB
- Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP Media Center Edition
- Intel(R) Core(TM) Duo processor T2500 (2.0 GHz)
- 17.0" WXGA+ Ultra BrightView Widescreen (1440x900)
- 256MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7400
- 1.0GB DDR2 SDRAM (2x512MB)
- 120 GB 5400 RPM SATA Hard Drive
- LightScribe 8x DVD+/-RW&CD-RW Combo w/Double Layer
- Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network w/Bluetooth
- No TV Tuner w/remote control
- 8 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
- Microsoft(R) Works/Money
- Windows(R) XP Media Center Edition Backup CD
- HP Mobile Remote Control
Now for a question for me: I use the mouse "snap to" feature (control panel > mouse > pointer tab> "Snap to") this allows my mouse to always default to the yes, no or cancle boxes that appear when installing or doing almost anything, instead of moving the mouse from where ever it is on the screen.
For some reason, evertime I restart or turn off then back on, the computer always forgets that setting and I have to do it all over again..Any Ideas????
For my second question, I have noticed that evertime I either log on or restart, it will not remember my settings. Like, if I open Internet Explorer, it will open in a small window. So I make it large. as long as I don't restart all my windows will open in large window format now..however, if I restart, they all go back to small windows...any Ideas??? I think this and the previous one are kinda on the same level....
Then next problem I have is when I go to shut down.. I get this error message: and error at 0x77600f57 referenced memory @ 0x6b20901c "memory could not be read" ....Any Ideas here????? -

Hi,
I'm new to the forum too .I had ordered the dv8000t and got it a couple of days back. The configuration is shown below:
Its mean and powerful no doubt. I encountered this problem when connecting to yahoo messengers and when trying to talk PC to PC .I was able to hear the other person talk but my voice was not audible on the other side. The microphone works with other PCs ...and i had checked with the different volume settings and i had enabled the mic phone volume too...but it didn;t work. I am not sure if it is to do with the sound card that comes with the system or do i have to enable something for me to have voice chat. Can some one tell me if i am missing something .Please help me out.

ok, so Im planning on buying my dv8000t from costco, and their computer's processor is a Intel Centrino Duo T2300 (1.66Ghz), do you think this processor can still run games like World of Warcraft and StarWars: Empire At War?
-
Though the T2300 has the lowest Core Duo clock-speed, it's no slouch. It'll handle any games out there just fine, especially seeing as most games are more GPU instensive and not extremely CPU intensive.
-
After fiddling around with a few games from GTA:San Andreas to Half-Life 2 and TOCA 3 in the end I'm satisfied with the performance of the 7400 Go. By no means can you max out the graphical setttings, but the 7400 Go is comfortable running modern games at medium resolutions and detail. -
awesome. I was just at my friends house and he had battlefield 2, im now addicted to it, so do you think this computer can run it at a good FPS at low settings?
-
D***, I wish I could find my Battlefield 2 discs so I can tell you for sure. But I would say with 99% certainty yes, you'd be able to run it at good FPS at low settings, even at the native res of the panel (either 1440X900 or 1680X1050). Especially if you don't need AA. AA seems to kill the framerate on 7400 Go at higher resolutions.

Hey All,
I just ordered a custom dv8000t and I am anxiously awaiting its arrival!
Can anyone tell me (from their experience) the following,
How quick is the Duo CPU?
I had a Turion ML-32 and I wasn't all that impressed and it why I purchased this.
How is the Battery life during normal usage?
I am an application developer and I will be using it mostly for development suites, Photoshop, illustrator, flash and of course normal web browsing.

I get about 3 hours battery life on lite usage. Expect less running Photoshop and the like. -
I have a dv8280us, which is just dv8000t with ultrabrightview, 2gb ram & 2x100 gb hard drives. Mine has a slightly slower processor than you, the t2400, but it performs extreamly well, both in games and everyday applications. I don't have a single complaint about my machine other than the size and weight, but I knew that going in. Another nice thing about this model is it stays very cool, even after long-term gaming.

Hi, I'm new and got this page from a google search. I am looking for a laptop to play games on, (WoW, GuildWars, BF2, Oblivion, etc) My friend said I should just go to the local bestbuy and ask for an AMD 64 processor. I've done my research on Intel though aswell, and am wondering on ordering a dv8000t
the config I am looking at is:
~Operating System Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP Professional with SP2
~Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) Duo processor T2500 (2.0 GHz)
~Display 17.0" WXGA+ Ultra BrightView Widescreen (1440x900)
~Graphics Card 256MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7400
~Memory 1.0GB DDR2 SDRAM (2x512MB)
~Hard Drive 100 GB 7200 RPM SATA Hard Drive
~Primary CD/DVD Drive LightScribe 8x DVD+/-RW&CD-RW Combo w/Double Layer
~Networking Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network w/Bluetooth
~TV & Entertainment Experience No TV Tuner w/remote control
~Primary Battery 8 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
~Productivity Software Microsoft(R) Works/Money
~OS and Recovery Media Windows(R) XP Professional with SP2 Backup CD
(yeah, I am pressed on time before going to work so I just copied it from the config part)
but to my knowledge it doesn't have 64 bit processing like an AMD 64, how much affect will this have? I am in 11th grade so I'll be graduating next year, and I would like to get a laptop now that can replace my old celeron desktop for college. Is this a good choice for me? Thanks to everyone who takes time to read this article and any help they can provide. -
If your main focus is on gaming then the dv8000t is probably not the best choice for you. The 7400 Geforce Go is considered low/midrange:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=39568
While the dv8000t can play most games competently, it is by no means your best bang for the buck when it comes to gaming.
The best thing to do is stop by the What Should I Buy? Forum and fill out the standard questionaire:

Good luck! -
Thanks for the advice, I'm glad I stumbled across this board instead of acting on impulse and ordering the laptop first heh. thanks again you helped out alot.
-
buying this from bestbuy will have the 6 in 1 media reader built in. Do we get this 6 in 1 media reader if order from HP with customize option ? I dont see it. Thanks in advance
-
Included features
• HP PhotoSmart Premier
• HP QuickPlay
• Built in 6-in-1 Digital Media Reader
• Built-in Altec Lansing stereo speakers.....
On the customize page for the dv8000t, just click on the "Included features" link located below the picture to see the full list of standard features.

Thanks for the reply! about to order one online but one more question about display..
Does this laptop support dual displays ? I mean will I be able to connect a monitor to it and have 2 display outputs? so the laptop be running at 1680x 1050 and extra lcd monitor be running at 1600x1200. Is this possible on dv8000t? -
i believe so, but you might want to give hp a call just in case.
-
-
DrewN ,
Thanks a lot for taking the time to answer in depth and add screenshot and your 2 screen setup. That is exactly what I was asking! This laptop will be a back up to my main Stock trading machine so the ability to run 2 display out at same time ( dual mode) seals this laptop as the one to buy.
After reading the forum for 2 hours+, I have decided to order thru costco for the 6 month policy and the ability to just return back to their warehouse if support with HP go bad. -
Not a problem tides, we're here to help. The Costco return policy is also a very good idea. Good luck with your purchase

I will be soon buying a laptop and I am looking at this laptop because it is so much cheaper than the competition. I want to use the laptop for some gaming (Battlefield 2, The Sims 2, Call of Duty 2) and multimedia use. I think i'll set up the system as follows:
-Intel(R) Core(TM) Duo processor T2500 (2.0 GHz)
-17.0" WSXGA+ BrightView Widescreen (1680x1050)
-256MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7400
-2.0GB DDR2 SDRAM (2x1024MB)
-100 GB 7200 RPM SATA Hard Drive
-HP ExpressCard Analog TV Tuner w/remote control
Do you think the sytem will be able to run the games listed and the newer games that are coming out with ease? How is HP's Customer Support? Is it easy and good service/support?
Thanks for the help -
it will run them, but not at max settings. usually it can run at medium just fine. its not the best gpu for eye-candy but I like it

Can anyone please help me to find out what type of firewire chip the Pavillion dv8000t has. I know that the dv8000z has a Texas Instrument chipset, which is what I need for my external firewire audio interface. Can anyone that ownes a dv8000t please ceck. ( right clik My computer > properties > device manager and click on 1394).
I would greatly appreciate your help.
Thank you -
The bright versus ultrabright screen makes a huge difference. The limited viewing angle of the dv8223 (same screen as dv8000t brightview) and generally dark screen I saw at Costco would not meet my photo and video needs (as well as very inferior to my desktop Sony and LCD screens). So, demand on an ultrabright and turn it to minimum brightness for longest battery life and most pleasant viewing in a normally lit room. I bought my daughter a Fujitsu 3210 earlier in the year ($1,050) and it has a superior screen to the brightview (used at minimum brightness for it's really bright, ultrabright screen).
I've been using desktop computers since 1984 and mainframes from 1976 (hey I'm only 50). -
What kind of warranties should we get for the dv8000t?
-
I had the same problems. I have the dv8235nr and it had the F.09 A BIOS. I did a BIOS update to the F.13A, and now it works with no problems. It looks like HP shiped these with out processor and Nvidia support and the BIOS update fixed that. However HP was no help in finding this out, I'm thinking I should call them and tell them they should pay me for the time I spent to find the fix! -
I'm considering buying the dv8000t from CostCo, but I went on their web site and it doesn't mention a TV tuner or remote. pardon my ignorance, but if you're getting a laptop with Media Center on it, with no TV tuner...what's the point??
-
Media Center is chaeper than XP Pro, and offers better Media access. I love Media center as I don't have my laptop on a huge network and I watch movies on it all the time. I never watch TV for the most part so a TV tuner isn't needed in my case.
-
you can add tv tuner and remote in customized page in costo.com I had mine ordered from there.
----TV & Entertainment Experience help me decide
No TV Tuner w/remote control [included]
HP ExpressCard Analog TV Tuner w/remote control [add $126.00]
---
the above option. -
i placed my order last night friday june 16th. I am wondering how long it will take, the eta ship date is the 26th. I ordered through costco, were they pretty quick with it?
-
my dv8000t took 10 days from costco. (the 10 days include sat and sunday)
Pretty sure yours will arrive before 26th. Mine arrived 3 days earlier than eta shipdate I was given at time of order.
